Many scholars have focused on the workability and mechanical properties of fly ash (FA)- ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) geopolymer. To enhance the compressive strength of geopolymer, zeolite powder was added in the present study. A series of experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of using zeolite powder as an external admixture on the per-formance of FA-GGBS geopolymer, 17 sets of experiments were designed and tested to deter-mine the unconfined compressive strength based on the response surface methodology, and then, the optimal parameters were obtained via modeling of 3 factors (zeolite powder dosage, alkali exciter dosage, and alkali exciter modulus) and 2 levels of compressive strength (3 d and 28 d). The experimental results showed that the strength of the geopolymer was the highest when the three factors were 13.3%, 40.3%, and 1.2. Finally, a combination of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis was used to conduct micromechanical analysis and explain the reaction mechanism from a microscopic perspective. The SEM and XRD analysis revealed that the microstructure of the geopolymer was the densest when the zeolite powder was doped at 13.3%, and the strength increased accordingly. The NMR and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses revealed that the absorption peak wave number band shifted toward the lower wave number band under the optimal ratio, and the silica–oxygen bond was replaced by an aluminum–oxygen bond, which generated more aluminosilicate structures.

The effects of Nano-CaCO3 on the physical, mechanical properties and durability of cement-based materials were investigated in this paper. The mechanical property, durability and SEM microscopic tests of test blocks with different Nano-CaCO3 content were carried out. Results showed that Nano-CaCO3 could improve the flexural strength, compressive strength and impermeability of cement-based materials. When the content of Nano-CaCO3 is 2.0%, the strengthening effect of Nano-CaCO3 on the cement-based materials was optimized, and the flexural strength of cement-based materials after 3 d, 7 d and 28 d increased by 12.6%, 18% and 32.4%, respectively, compared with the reference group. When the content of Nano-CaCO3 exceeded 2.0%, the flexural strength of cement-based materials begins to decline with the increase of Nano-CaCO3 content. Similarly, when the content of Nano-CaCO3 reached 2.0%, the impermeability of the cement-based materials was also optimized, and the permeability height of the base group could be increases by 41.4%. At the early stage of hydration, the exothermic rate of cement with 2.0% Nano-CaCO3 content was higher than that of other contents. When the content of Nano-CaCO3 increased from 0 to 2.0%, the hydration exothermic rate increased gradually with the increase of Nano-CaCO3 content.

Senescent cells accumulate in aged organisms and promote the progression of age-related diseases including cataracts. Therefore, we aimed to study the therapeutic effects of senescence-targeting drugs on cataracts. In this study, a 28-day D-galactose-induced cataract rat model was used. The opacity index, a grading based on slit-lamp observations, was used to assess lens cloudiness. Furthermore, the average lens density (ALD), lens density standard deviation (LDSD), and maximum lens density (MLD) obtained from Scheimpflug images were used to assess lens transparency. Immunohistochemical stainings for p16 and γH2AX were used as hallmarks of senescence. We treated rat cataract models with the senolytic drug combination dasatinib plus quercetin (D+Q) and senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) inhibitors. In comparison to control lenses, D-galactose-induced cataract lenses showed a higher opacity index, ALD, LDSD, and MLD values, as well as accumulation of senescent lens epithelial cells (LECs). After D+Q treatment, ALD, LDSD, and MLD values on day 21 were significantly lower than those of vehicle-treated model rats. The expression levels of p16 and γH2AX were also reduced after D+Q administration. In addition, the SASP inhibitor rapamycin decreased the opacity index, ALD, LDSD, and MLD values on day 21. In conclusion, D+Q alleviated D-galactose-induced cataract progression by reducing the senescent LEC burden in the early stage of cataract.

Extrinsic cues are ubiquitous in daily commodity consumption scenarios, not to mention online consumption scenarios. Among the many online cues, monthly sales and product ratings are two of the most representative. Some scholars have researched the impact of these cues on consumer decision making, but only search products have been investigated. Based on previous research, this article expanded the types of products to experience products and further explored consumer purchase behaviours and the underlying purchase processes influenced by these two extrinsic cues with the assistance of a neuroscience tool, event-related potentials (ERPs). The behavioural results indicated that the subjects decided mainly based on ratings, while the effect of sales was continuously inhibited. The ERP results further suggested that consumers recognised low ratings and low sales as more negative stimuli than high ratings and high sales, as larger P2 amplitudes were observed. Following the early processing of these cues, low ratings were considered unacceptable and evoked more significant emotional conflicts than high ratings, which was reflected by larger N400 amplitudes. Moreover, in the late stage, high ratings, which activated evaluation categorisation and produced more significant emotional arousal than low-rating conditions, guided the formation of purchase intention and reflected greater LPP amplitudes. Theoretical and managerial implications were discussed.

AS41 magnesium alloy possesses outstanding performance features such as light weight, high strength to toughness ratio and excellent heat resistance due to the addition of Si element, while traditional casting methods are prone to inducing large grain size and coarse Mg2Si phase. In this study, we first reported utilizing the selective laser melting (SLM) technique, fabricating AS41 samples and exploring the effect of laser energy densities on the metallurgical quality by characterizing and investigating the microstructure and mechanical properties. Results showed that the optimal laser energy density range was 60 to 100 J/mm3. Average grain size of only 2.9 μm was obtained with weak texture strength of 1.65 in {0001} orientation. Meanwhile, many dispersed secondary β-Mg17Al12 and Mg2Si phases were distributed inside the α-Mg matrix. It was confirmed that the SLM process introduced more grain recrystallization, inducing giant high-angle grain boundaries (HAGBs) and hindering the movement of dislocations, therefore forming dislocation strengthening while achieving grain refinement strengthening. Finally, three times the ultimate tensile strength of 313.7 MPa and higher microhardness of 96.4 HV than those of the as-cast state were obtained, verifying that the combined effect of grain refinement, solid solution strengthening and precipitation strengthening was responsible for the increased strength. This work provides new insight and a new approach to preparing AS41 magnesium alloy.

In order to meet the needs of large-scale underwater operations, the underwater acoustic communication network emerged, marking a historic moment. At the same time, the development of artificial intelligence has promoted the application of intelligent underwater robots in large-scale underwater operations, and the research on related algorithms has been gradually promoted. Due to the complexity of underwater operations and the difficulty of replacing batteries, the energy efficiency of intelligent underwater robots is particularly important in multi-AUVs data acquisition systems. In view of the energy consumption of multi-AUVs data acquisition systems in water acoustic cluster networks, this paper proposed the AE (A*-Energy) algorithm for multi-AUVs task assignment and path planning. Through the simulation experiment, it was proved that the AE algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively reduce the energy consumption of multi-AUVs data acquisition systems and has good energy efficiency.

Affordable and warm housing is a basic household living need, which is closely related to human health and well-being. This study attempts to establish the link between household housing conditions and energy poverty in China from the perspective of energy self-restriction using logit and mediation models based on microdata. The results report that: (1) households are more likely to be exposed to energy poverty if they live in larger, older, poorly insulated houses, without basic energy service equipment, and in rental housing; (2) the area of residence and energy installations are the main characteristics that distinguish energy poverty from non-energy poverty; (3) the link between housing conditions and energy poverty is reinforced by the psychology and behavior of households, with those living in poor conditions tending to restrain their energy consumption, thus worsening their energy poverty situation.

Tuberculosis, caused by the pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a serious infectious disease worldwide. Multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) remains a global problem, and the understanding of this resistance is incomplete. Studies suggested that DNA methylation promotes bacterial adaptability to antibiotic treatment, but the role of mycobacterial HsdM in drug susceptibility has not been explored. Here, we constructed an inactivated Mycobacterium bovis (BCG) strain, ΔhsdM. ΔhsdM shows growth advantages over wild-type BCG under isoniazid treatment and hypoxia-induced stress. Using high-precision PacBio single-molecule real-time sequencing to compare the ΔhsdM and BCG methylomes, we identified 219 methylated HsdM substrates. Bioinformatics analysis showed that most HsdM-modified genes were enriched in respiration- and energy-related pathways. qPCR showed that HsdM-modified genes directly affected their own transcription, indicating an altered redox regulation. The use of the latent Wayne model revealed that ΔhsdM had growth advantages over wild-type BCG and that HsdM regulated trcR mRNA levels, which may be crucial in regulating transition from latency to reactivation. We found that HsdM regulated corresponding transcription levels via gene methylation, thus, altering the mycobacterial redox status and decreasing the bacterial susceptibility to isoniazid, which is closely correlated with the redox status. Our results provide valuable insight into DNA methylation on drug susceptibility.

The ordinary Portland cement (OPC)-based solidification process is used extensively to reinforce soils due to its available and good bonding properties. Alternative products are used in cementitious materials to enhance the strength and to reduce OPC consumption. In this study, the effect of additive type and mass fraction on the microstructure and mechanical properties of solidified sandy silt are investigated. There are four types of additives (gypsum, lime, clay particles, and fly ash) at mass fractions of 2, 3, and 4% that are considered in order to study their mechanical properties (unconfined compression, indirect tensile, flexural strength, and compressive resilient modulus) at 7, 14, 28, 60, and 90 days. The optimal contents of additive gypsum, clay particles, and fly ash are determined to be 2%, 4%, and 4%, respectively. Such improvement of additive-modified OPC solidified sandy silt is due to the formation of the crystalline compound or the gradation composition improvement via field emission scanning electron and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Ampelopsis grossedentata, also called vine tea, has been used as a traditional beverage in China for centuries. Vine tea contains rich polyphenols and shows benefit to human health, but the chemical and antioxidant properties of vine tea polyphenols from different locations remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the chemical and antioxidant properties of vine tea from three major production areas in China including Guizhou, Hunan, and Guangxi Provinces. The highest amount of polyphenol from vine tea was extracted by 70% ethanol at 70 &deg, C for 40 min with ultrasonic treatment. The major compound in vine tea polyphenols (VTP) was determined as dihydromyricetin (DMY) by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and the content was estimated as 21.42%, 20.17%, and 16.47% of dry weight basis from Hunan, Guizhou, and Guangxi products, respectively. The antioxidant activities were investigated in vitro and in culture hepatic cells. VTP and DMY showed strong 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical (DPPH) scavenging ability and high oxygen radical absorption capacity (ORAC) value in vitro. VTP and DMY also increased the level of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH):quinone oxidoreductase (NQO1) in HepG2 cells. Moreover, VTP and DMY enhanced the level of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and reduced the level of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1). Taken together, our data demonstrated that the extraction of vine tea by 70% ethanol with ultrasonic treatment is a novel method to efficiently obtain components possessing stronger antioxidant activity. Furthermore, the results from the culture cells suggest that the bioactive component of vine tea might exert the antioxidant activity by activating the cellular Nrf2/Keap1 pathway.

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) contains prebiotic components, fructans, antibacterial compounds, and organosulfur compounds. The complex ingredients of garlic seem to impart a paradoxical result on the gut microbiome. In this study, we used a mouse model to clarify the effects of whole garlic on the gut microbiome. C57BL/6N male mice were fed with or without whole garlic in normal diet (ND) or in high-fat diet (HFD) for 12 weeks. Supplementation with whole garlic attenuated HFD-enhanced ratio of serum GPT/GOT (glutamic-pyruvic transaminase/glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase), levels of T-Cho (total cholesterol) and LDLs (low-density lipoproteins), and index of homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), but had no significant effect in the levels of serum HDL-c (high density lipoprotein cholesterol), TG (total triacylglycerol), and glucose. Moreover, garlic supplementation meliorated the HFD-reduced ratio of villus height/crypt depth, cecum weight, and the concentration of cecal organic acids. Finally, gut microbiota characterization by high throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed that whole garlic supplementation increased the &alpha, diversity of the gut microbiome, especially increasing the relative abundance of f_Lachnospiraceae and reducing the relative abundance of g_Prevotella. Taken together, our data demonstrated that whole garlic supplementation could meliorate the HFD-induced dyslipidemia and disturbance of gut microbiome.
