The genus Leptophascum (Müll.Hal.) J.Guerra & M.J.Cano (Pottiaceae) is new to the bryoflora of Egypt and is represented by Leptophascum leptophyllum (Müll.Hal.) J.Guerra & M.J.Cano. This raised the number of fully identified moss taxa recorded from Egypt to 189. The location, habitats, herbarium numbers and distribution of the species in Africa and the world are reviewed. About 80 % of the species are Lejeuneaceae Cavers, reflecting the predominance of members of this family in tropical lowland regions. Most of the species have wide neotropical or pantropical distributions. One species, Lejeunea tamasii M.E.Reiner, N.Salazar & C.Chung, is only known from Barro Colorado Island. The island is rich in epiphyllous taxa. Total bryophyte diversity (167 spp.) of the island is noteworthy given its limited surface area. Aneura latissima Spruce and Lejeunea pulverulenta (Steph.) Recent fieldwork in Tunisia resulted in the discovery of one liverwort (Saccogyna viticulosa (L.) Dumort.) and three mosses (Orthotrichum bistratosum (Schiffn.) J.Guerra, Pseudotaxiphyllum elegans (Brid.) Z.Iwats., Tortula protobryoides R.H.Zander) new for mainland Africa. The localities are briefly described with a focus on habitats, accompanying species, and comments on taxonomy and variability. The archipelago of Marajó (Pará State, Brazil) in the mouth of the Amazon river is the largest fluvial-marine complex worldwide, comprising about 2500 islands. The aim of this study was to investigate floristic and ecological attributes of the bryophyte flora of two major islands of the archipelago, Caviana and Mexiana, as a contribution to environmental conservation. In total, 572 samples were studied. The bryoflora of Caviana was represented by 89 species (39 mosses, 50 liverworts) and Mexiana by 50 species (28 mosses, 22 liverworts). Together, the two islands harbored 100 species (46 mosses and 54 liverworts). No statistical similarity was observed in the species composition between the two islands and 50 species were exclusive to Caviana while 11 species were only found on Mexiana. The latter island harbored a greater richness of mosses while liverworts were more diverse on Caviana. Epiphyllous bryophytes were exclusively found on Caviana. The floristic differences between the two islands are explained by differences in environmental conditions and vegetation cover. Based on recent fieldwork and examination of herbarium collections from different parts of the Mediterranean climate areas of Chile, we report ten new bryophyte records for the country, including three liverwort and seven moss taxa. Six of these records are also new to South America. In addition, Trichostomum brachydontium Bruch is newly reported for continental Chile. Most species reported here correspond to ephemeral taxa, mostly visible only during the wet winter months (June-September). These results stress the need for further basic exploration of Chile bryophyte flora, and the urgent need to improve the cryptogamic collections in national herbaria. As a result of recent field work, three liverworts (Myriocoleopsis minutissima subsp. minutissima (Sm.) R.L. Zhu, Y. Yu & Pócs, Riccia cavernosa Hoffm. emend. Raddi, Riella notarisii (Mont.) Mont.) and five mosses (Brachytheciastrum dieckei (Röll) Ignatov & Huttunen, Hedwigia striata (Wilson) Bosw., Orthotrichum laevigatum J.E. Zetterst., Tortula schimperi M.J. Cano, O. Werner & J. Guerra, and Zygodon forsteri (Dicks.) Mitt.) were newly recorded for Corsica. The new localities are briefly described. The desmid flora of Serbia has been surveyed during various periods. The first data on the distribution of desmids in Serbia date back to 1883 and from then on until 2009 altogether 630 different taxa were identified. Among 23 genera of desmids in all, the most diverse and most commonly found is Cosmarium (242 taxa or 38.4% of the total number of taxa). Taxa belonging to the genus Cosmarium grow in distinctly diverse habitats, from lowland rivers to high-mountain peat bogs. The present paper gives a survey of the major taxonomic and ecological characteristics of the Cosmarium taxa which have been identified in Serbia. The present studies regarding the distribution of Cosmarium taxa over the territory of Serbia, show that extremely rare, very rare and rare taxa comprise 96.3% of all recorded Cosmarium taxa. The species Cosmarium botrytis, C. laeve, C. meneghinii and C. subprotumidum appear widely distributed in the territory of Serbia. This third paper in a monographic series on the marine macroalgae of French Polynesia gives a detailed coverage of the species of Rhodophyta occurring in these islands. A total of 197 taxa are presented (195 Rhodophyceae, 1 Phaeophyceae and I Chlorophyta; of these, 84 (or 43%) represent new records for the flora, while 7 (or 3.6%) are new species. The new combination Jania subulata (J. Ellis et Solander) N'Yeurt et Payri is made for 1-laliptilon subulatum (J. Ellis et Solander) W. H. Johansen. Padina stipitata Tanaka et Nozawa (Phaeophyceae) and Codium saccatum Okamura (Chlorophyceae) are notable additions to the flora from deepwater habitats in the southern Australs; 56 taxa (or 28.7%) occur only in the Austral archipelago. The flora has most affinities with that of the Hawaiian Islands (S∅rensen Index = 0.30), followed by the Cook Islands and Samoa (SI = 0.26 each) and the Solomon Islands (SI = 0.25). There are some disjunct distribution patterns for several subtropical to temperate species, possibly suggesting special oceanic current routes between the southern Australs, Hawaii and the Southern Australian region.
