The SUPERMAN (SUP) gene is expressed in the third whorl of developing Arabidopsis flower and creates a boundary between the stamen and carpel whorls. The B function genes are positive regulators of the SUP gene. The SUP gene and AP3/PI act against each other. The SUP protein is required for transcriptional regulation and cellular proliferation. Sequence analysis of the SUP protein detects the presence of one zinc-finger and s region similar to the basic leucine zipper motif.
