Abstract

This article discusses a recent meeting held on Long Island, New York about a plan to build 40 wind-turbine generators in the ocean just off Jones Beach. The Long Island Power authority was proposing the turbines as a way to produce clean electricity without relying on oil from OPEC, but residents were opposed and wondered why the turbines weren't proposed for the beaches closer to the richer precincts.
