Energy efficiency and output uncertainty are two of the most challenges that Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) is facing. Controlling the wind generation system variables is complicated due to the variability and unpredictability of the wind resources, especially wind speed and directions. Sliding mode control is one effective technique that has been used to improve wind energy conversion system efficiency and to reach the rated values of the wind generation system. Most of the recent researches focus on the design, performance, and behaver study on sliding mode control from the wind turbine side, which mostly only considering those under normal conditions in power system. However, the disturbance on the load side will have impact on the generation performance as well, which may require control system to react. This paper presents a study of sliding mode control response when considering loads under different conditions. Power system disturbances are considered in this paper, such as faults conditions, in order to analyze the sliding mode control behavers. Case studies based on Matlab/Simulink were used to demonstrate the proposed analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
