Holographic optical elements (HOEs) play an important role in augmented reality (AR) systems. However, the fabrication of full-color HOEs is difficult and the diffraction efficiency is low. In this paper, we use the time-scheduled iterative exposure method to fabricate full-color HOEs with high diffraction efficiency. Through this method, a full-color HOE with an average diffraction efficiency of 73.4% was implemented in a single photopolymer, the highest rate yet reported. In addition, the AR system is simulated by the geometric optics method combining k-vector circle and ray tracing and structured by combining laser micro-drop and high diffraction efficiency HOEs. A good color blending effect was achieved in a full-color AR system by using the reconstruction wavelength consistent with the recording light. It can present clear holographic images in a full-color AR display system.

We propose and demonstrate a color-speckle assessment method based on a three-dimensional J z a z b z color space, which is appropriate for both three-primary and multi-primary systems. In the proposed scheme, new physical quantities are defined to describe the color-speckle characteristics, which provides a general and intuitive color-speckle evaluation for different laser projectors. Experimental verification is also performed using three-primary and six-primary laser projectors. The simulation and measurement results are consistent.

We propose and demonstrate an all-polarization-maintaining (PM) high-power cylindrical vector beam (CVB) fiber laser based on the principle of mode superposition. The non-degenerated LPy 11a is generated from the oscillator with the maximum power of 11.9W, whose slope efficiency is 24.4%. Then the stable single TE 01 vector beam is achieved by the superposition of LPy 11a and LPx 11b in an all-PM architecture, its output power is 3.1W and mode purity of 91.2%. Due to the all-PM architecture, our configuration is free of adjusting polarization controller (PC) and reliable during long-term operation. This laser could be used as a high-power CVBs source for a wide range of applications towards scientific research and industrial field.

In this paper, the phenomenon of reverse saturable absorption of offset-spliced graded index multimode fibers (OS-GIMF) is revealed. And based on that, the stable square-shaped and chair-like mode-locked pulses are demonstrated with the maximum pulse energy of 0.14 µJ and 23.8 nJ respectively, while the OS-GIMF acts as a saturable absorber (SA) in fiber laser. By adjusting polarization controller (PC) and the pump power, square-shaped and chair-like pulse can be switched to each other. This multimode SA could sever as high power light source owing to its high damage threshold, compact structure and low cost.

Dual-wavelength operation of grating-tuned dye laser systems was demonstrated in this paper. We used the second harmonic generation of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser to pump the Nile red solvent (dissolved in ethanol) in the Littrow configuration and the Littman-Metcalf configuration. By rotating the grating 3.6° in the Littrow configuration and the tuning mirror 3.9° in the Littman-Metcalf configuration, we obtained a 72 and 46 nm tuning-range dye laser output, respectively. Meanwhile by parallelly moving the grating in the Littrow configuration and the tuning mirror in the Littman-Metcalf configuration, we achieved the separation of dual wavelength from 0.7 to 5 nm in the former and 1.5 to 4 nm in the latter, which were in the terahertz range and could find applications in the terahertz source after using difference frequency technology. Finally, after considering the laser trajectories in the two configurations, we theoretically analyzed the reasons for overall tuning and separation tuning of dual wavelength.

We propose and demonstrate an all-fiber laser with LP 11 mode output. A transverse mode filter is designed and fabricated to suppress the fundamental mode and enable the fiber laser to oscillate in the second-order (LP 11 ) transverse mode. The mechanism is to introduce relatively low ohmic loss for the TE 01 mode and much higher ohmic losses for other modes through the loss of evanescent waves in the metal clad. The fiber laser operates at the center wavelength of 1053.9 nm with a narrow 3 dB linewidth of 0.019 nm. Four states of cylindrical vector mode with high modal purity are obtained through adjusting the intra-cavity polarization controller. This approach has great potentiality and scalability of realizing single high-order mode fiber laser, from which a wide range of applications could benefit.

A passively mode-locked fiber laser to generate chirp-adjustable square-wave pulses is reported. A simple chirp measurement system is designed to study the output chirp of the fiber laser. The results indicate that the chirp of the square-wave pulses in our fiber laser can be adjusted by the polarization controllers inside the cavity. Three typical chirp states, including random chirp, V-shaped chirp and linear chirp, are achieved. This kind of fiber laser cannot only help to further understand the characteristics of square-wave pulse but also serve as multifunction light source for potential applications.

We report a novel method of beam shaping in an all-fiber laser. Flattop beams are first generated from the all-fiber laser using a few-mode fiber Bragg grating by superposing the fundamental mode (LP 01 ) with a solid central beam distribution, and the second-order mode (LP 11 ) gives rise to a donut-shape beam distribution. Two modes are obtained in the fiber laser simultaneously, and the wavelengths of the two modes are 1053.7 nm and 1055.4 nm, respectively. An experiment has been carried out, and a high-quality flattop profile is obtained for the normalized root-mean-square of the light intensity less than 5% under no numerical aperture illumination, consistent with the theoretical prediction.

We report a passively Q-switched fiber laser with cylindrical vector beam output modes using a few-mode fiber Bragg grating as a polarization-selective output coupler and Bi 2 Te 3 as the saturable absorber. Both radially and azimuthally polarized beams can be readily generated, and the output polarization can be switchable by tuning the polarization controllers inside the laser cavity. The repetition rate of the Q-switched laser can be tuned from 31.54 to 49.40 kHz when the pump power increases from 103.5 to 139.5 mW. The fiber laser operates at a single wavelength of 1557.5 nm with a 3 dB linewidth of <0.04  nm.

We demonstrated an all fiber actively mode-locked laser that emits a cylindrical vector beam. An intra-cavity few-mode fiber Bragg grating inscribed in a short section of four-mode fiber is employed to provide mode selection and spectrum filtering functions. Mode coupling is achieved by offset splicing between the single-mode fiber and the four-mode fiber in the laser cavity. A LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder modulator is used to achieve active mode-locking in the laser. The laser operates at 1547 nm with 30 dB spectrum width of 0.2 nm. The mode-locked pulses have a duration of 2 ns and repetition of 12.06 MHz. Through adjusting the polarization state in the laser cavity, both radially and azimuthally polarized beams have been obtained with high mode purity.

We have fabricated an Yb-doped passively Q-switching fiber laser based on WS(2) saturable absorber. Both the operating wavelength and the repetition rate can be tuned in a wide range. The operating wavelength can be continuously tuned from 1027 nm to 1065 nm under the Q-switching state at a fixed pump power, while the repetition rate increases from 60.2 kHz to 97.0 kHz by varying pump power at a fixed wavelength of 1048.1 nm. The shortest pulse duration of 1.58 µs was observed. To the best of our knowledge, it's the first demonstration of WS(2)-based passively Q-switching fiber laser with a wide tunable range at 1.0 μm band.

We propose and demonstrate a radially polarized mode-locked fiber laser through the use of a figure-8 cavity in combination with cascade fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). The mode-locked laser emits rectangular pulses with width tunable from 2.8 to 23 ns under an increasing pump power at 1056.3 nm with 0.2-nm 30-dB linewidth. A polarization purity as high as 96% for the output transverse mode has been achieved simultaneously.

We have proposed and demonstrated a figure-8 dual-pump passively mode-locked fiber laser to generate square-wave pulse tunable by both width and amplitude. Just by simply adjusting the power of the pumps, both the amplitude and width of the output square-wave pulse can be tuned independently and continuously. One pump is used to tune the output pulsewidth while the other is used to tune amplitude.

We report a fiber laser design that is capable of producing switchable transverse modes through wavelength tuning. The transverse mode switching is realized by exploiting the particular transverse mode-wavelength association characteristics of the few-mode fiber Bragg grating. Different transverse mode outputs with high spatial mode quality can be obtained by adjusting the oscillating wavelength with a tunable filter within the fiber laser cavity. For each of the spatial mode outputs, the laser operates at the corresponding single wavelength with narrow linewidth. Through adding polarization controllers in the laser cavity, output modes with cylindrical vector polarization are also realized.

We report the generation of ultrawide tunable square-wave pulse in an erbium-doped mode-locked fiber laser. The pulse width can be tuned in an ultrawide range of more than 1700 ns by simply increasing the pump power. The pulse-width tuning is 5.1 ns/mW. To the best of our knowledge, this is the widest pulse-width tuning range of any square-wave pulse in an all-fiber passively mode-locked fiber laser. Experimental results show that the fiber nonlinearity plays an important role in the tuning range of the output pulse width. We propose and demonstrate a low-threshold single-wavelength all-fiber laser generating cylindrical vector beams using a few-mode fiber Bragg grating. Both radially and azimuthally polarized beams have been generated with very good modal symmetry and polarization purity higher than 94%. The radially and azimuthally polarized modes can be switched by simply adjusting the polarization controllers built in the fiber laser cavity. This fiber laser operates at a single wavelength of 1053 nm with a 3 dB linewidth of less than 0.02 nm, signal-to-background ratio of more than 55 dB, and a threshold as low as 16 mW. A new method for the polarization purity measurement is also proposed.

We proposed and demonstrated an all-fiber laser to generate cylindrical vector beam. A pair of fiber-based collimators was used to select the cylindrical vector beam operating. The radially and azimuthally polarized modes can be switchable just by applying pressure to a section of fiber in our fiber laser system. A 70 cm long Yb-doped fiber was used as gain medium and the lasing wavelength was around 1030 nm., ((c) 2010 Optical Society of America.)

Kerr-like nonlinearity n(2) (THz) induced via terahertz (THz) radiation and linear electro-optic (EO) effect is investigated in (110), (111) and (100) oriented ZnTe crystals using Z-scan technique with femtosecond laser pulses. We have proposed a model, taking into account the Kerr-like nonlinearity n(2) (THz), to describe well the experimental incident polarization dependence of the nonlinear refractive index n(2). It is found that for a (110) ZnTe crystal the nonlinear refractive index n(2) is dominated by the Kerr-like nonlinearity n(2) (THz), while n(2) in the (111) ZnTe crystal mainly comes from the combined contributions of the Kerr-like nonlinearity n(2) (THz) and conventional Kerr nonlinearity n(2) (Kerr). We also show strong two-photon absorption (TPA) anisotropy and crystal orientation dependence of TPA in ZnTe crystals.
