Direct texturing of the perovskite absorber layer with a facile thermal nano-imprint lithography process, enables the great opportunity to tune and enhance the absorptance of perovskite solar cells by coupling incident light to the quasi-guided modes

Multifunctional top-covers for photovoltaic modules (up to 100cm2) were fabricated – via the hot-embossing of both random and periodic microtextures into superhydrophobic textured fluoropolymers –and demonstrated to exhibit both self-cleaning and anti-reflective properties.

Photovoltaic (PV) module soiling can be overcome through passive self-cleaning top covers. This work investigates hot-embossing microtextured fluorinated ethylene propylene films to obtain superhydrophobic surfaces exhibiting the dual functionality of self-cleaning and anti-reflection properties.

We present a rigorous optical simulation of photon recycling in a nanostructured perovskite layer stack resembling a solar cell. Relevant emission characteristics such as the fraction of recycled light and far-field angular spectrum are deduced.

In this work, major loss mechanisms in the complex architecture of wide bandgap perovskite-based tandem solar modules are quantified using detailed energy yield modelling based on realistic meteorological data and rigorous optical and electrical simulations.

We demonstrate colored perovskite solar cells (PSC) that combine the flexibility of inkjet printing with luminescent down-shifting (LDS) layers. Via LDS, many colors can be realized for only a small reduction (~17%) in conversion efficiency.

We perform optical loss analyses and energy yield modelling of perovskite/silicon multijunction solar cells to elucidate the superiority of different architectures, e.g., 4-terminal solar cells and 2-terminal solar cell.

In this contribution, we report our recent results on broadband nanophotonic light management in thin-film silicon solar cells. A systematic experimental study on the impact of disorder in nanophotonic light management concepts of thin-film solar cells will be presented. We show that disorder is conceptually an advantage for nanophotonic light-trapping concepts employing grating coupler in thin-film solar cells. This conclusion holds for a broad range of angles of incidence.

Periodic or random nanostructures in thin-film solar cells at the front, rear and as interlayer enhance solar cell efficiencies. The underlying effect of dielectric or plasmonic light scattering will be discussed combining experiments and theory.

We present our recent progress in the development of nanophotonic front electrodes for improved light management in organic solar cell. Experimental results and 3D electromagnetic simulations of prototype nanophotonic solar cell will be presented.
