A sensitive determination method was developed for the analysis of pyrethroid pesticide residues in tomato samples using ionic liquid-based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction. A hydrophobic ionic liquid (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate) and acetonitrile were used as the extraction solvent and dispersive solvent, respectively. The following experimental parameters affecting the extraction efficiency were examined: types of extraction solvent and volume of extraction solvent, types of dispersive solvent and volume of dispersive solvent and pH and ion strength of the sample solution. Under the optimum conditions, the extraction recoveries ranged from 83.9 to 96.7%. Moreover, the enrichment factors for esbiothrin, fenpropathrin and cyhalothrin were 42, 48 and 45, respectively. The calibration curves were linear with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.9997 to 0.9999 at concentrations of 0.05-1.5 µg/kg. The relative standard deviation (n = 5) was 1.7-4.5%. The limits of detection for esbiothrin, fenpropathrin and cyhalothrin were 8.1, 9.9 and 14.3 µg/kg, respectively.

In this paper, a pretreatment method for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) determination of cypermethrin (CY) in microbial degradation systems was systemically studied, primarily to solve the problem of inaccurate determination of CY concentration caused by its uneven distribution in the systems. A suitable pretreatment method was established, including sampling, extraction and dehydration of CY. Partial sampling could be taken for bacterial and yeast systems in which CY was uniformly dispersed by an emulsifying agent, while total sampling was only suitable for mold systems with or without an emulsifying agent. CY could be fully extracted from the samples in which microbial cells were disrupted by ultrasonic treatment with acetonitrile under ultrasonic condition. The extract could be effectively dehydrated and purified by passing it through an anhydrous Na(2)SO(4) column followed by an elution with acetonitrile. The determination of CY in the pretreated sample by HPLC showed a high precision [relative standard deviation (RSD) = 1.14%, n = 5] and a good stability over a period of five days (RSD = 1.57%, n = 5). The recoveries of CY in microbial degradation systems at three different spiked levels ranged from 95.68 to 108.09% (RSD = 0.50-5.87%, n = 5).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) for the analysis of organophosphorus (OP) and pyrethroid (PYR) pesticides in green onions by GC/MS. We optimized MAE extraction solvent, temperature, and time by using a certified reference material. As a result, the concentrations of two OP and two PYR target pesticides obtained by MAE with acetonitrile at 110 degrees C for 10 min were in good agreement with certified concentrations and comparable to the results by homogenization used as reference extraction technique. When the recovery test, performed by spiking the target pesticides into blank samples (5.0 g), was carried out with our optimized MAE conditions, mean recoveries of 16 OP and 10 PYR pesticides were 72-108% for a 1.0 pg spiking level and 70-119% for a 0.2 microg level. These results were acceptable according to the validation guideline for testing method of agricultural chemicals in food by Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare in Japan. The results suggested that MAE can be used for the analysis of OP and PYR pesticides in green onions.

A high-performance liquid chromatography method is presented for the enantioseparation and quantitation of tetramethrin. The separation is achieved on amylose 3,5-dimethylphenyl-carbamate CSP (Chiralpak AD-H column) using a mobile phase consisting of a mixture of n-hexane-ethanol-2-propanol (99:0.9:0.1, v/v/v). Baseline chiral separation for the four isomers of tetramethrin is obtained within 20 min. Each of the resolutions of the two pairs of enantiomers is more than 2.0. The absolute configurations of each isomer are determined. The accuracy, precision, linearity, and limits of detection and quantitation of the method are investigated. For the determination of isomers in soil, the soil sample is extracted with acetone in an ultrasonic bath. The percentage recoveries from soil are in the range of 73.5% to 87.9%.

A robust analytical methodology is developed for the quantitative determination of all six insecticidal components of pyrethrum extract: jasmolin I, cinerin I, pyrethrin I, jasmolin II, cinerin II, and pyrethrin II. This method, based on the separation technique normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, offers selectivity, accuracy, precision, linearity, range, ruggedness, and robustness as well as efficiency and ease.
