Since the work of Sigmund Freud, psychotherapy has been used to uncover the unconscious processes that affect the conscious state. As this article describes, psychotherapy sessions can be liberating for clients, but they can also be extremely painful and moving for both client and therapist.

This article describes a social psychology approach to group therapy. Using a short case study, the author suggest the options for treatment which are available to the therapist and reasons why treatment based on social psychology offers a unique therapeutic potential.
