The article discusses the dismantling of the Elwha Dam and the Glines Canyon Dam on the Elwha River in Olympic National Park in Washington by the U.S. National Park Service. In order to prevent damage to ecosystems along the river, crews will take the structures down over the course of several years, plant trees in dry land, and slowly release both sediments and water. The construction of the Olmsted Lock and Dam on the Ohio River is also examined.
