In conventional laser ultrasonic (LU) single-mode frequency domain synthetic aperture focusing technique (F-SAFT) imaging, the precision of the imaged defect profile is limited due to the influence of the directionality of laser-induced ultrasound and the directionality of detection. To solve this problem, LU-based F-SAFT imaging with the shear wave, longitudinal wave, and mode-converted wave is proposed in this article. In the experiment, multimode bulk waves are excited by a pulsed laser, and a laser Doppler vibrometer is employed to detect ultrasound waves. The F-SAFT imaging is performed with single-mode and multimode ultrasound wave signals, respectively. The results show that F-SAFT imaging fusing three mode signals (shear, longitudinal, and mode-converted waves) improves the range of the upper surface of the imaged defect by nearly two times. In addition, the profile of the imaged defect is more complete than that of using a combination of both longitudinal and shear waves. By analyzing the influence of the directionality of laser-induced ultrasound and the detection directionality caused by the out-of-plane ultrasound component on the imaging results, a theoretical approach is used to select a reasonable excitation–detection distance for the use of multimode-fused F-SAFT algorithm. Sparse data assessed the association of apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) with inflammation. We investigated this association in a hospital-based cross-sectional pilot study that included 7296 patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). In multivariate analysis, negative associations of ApoA1 and HDL-C with C-reactive protein (CRP), high sensitivity CRP (hsCRP), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were shown. The corresponding CRP, hsCRP, and TNF-α values were 5.28 (vs 11.70 mg/L), 4.50 (vs 11.50 mg/L), and 7.68 (vs 10.90 pg/mL) for ApoA1, and 7.13 (vs 10.60 mg/L), 6.27 (vs 9.19 mg/L), and 8.11 (vs 11.86 pg/mL) for HDL-C in the fourth quartiles compared with the first quartiles. ApoA1/HDL-C ratio was inversely associated with hsCRP and interleukin-6 (IL-6). No significant associations of ApoA1 and HDL-C with IL-6 and IL-8, and of ApoA1/HDL-C ratio with CRP, IL-8, and TNF-α were observed. In path analyses, there was no evidence of mediating effects of body mass index on the "ApoA1 and HDL-C-inflammation" relationship. Generally, our study of CAD patients identified graded and inverse associations of ApoA1, HDL-C, and ApoA1/HDL-C ratio with inflammatory marker (CRP, hsCRP, IL-6, IL-8, or TNF-α) levels. The present study explored the moderating effects of household income on the relationship between cognitive social capital and subjective well-being in rural community-dwelling older adults in China. The data were derived from a rural community survey conducted in Liaoyuan City in China's Jilin Province in 2019. The analytic model featured 458 respondents who completed the survey. We used multiple group analyses to test the hypotheses. A latent construct of cognitive social capital was built using social trust and reciprocity indicators. The results showed that household income had a significant moderating effect on the association between cognitive social capital and life satisfaction, but not on the relationship between cognitive social capital and depressive symptoms. Thus, household income and cognitive social capital should be used to assess subjective well-being in older populations. Brain dysfunction resulting from damage to the heart-brain link leads to a decline in cognitive function. This, in turn, gives rise to the clinical symptom of perioperative delirium in patients undergoing coronary artery revascularization. Those affected are provided symptomatic treatment, but many do not recover fully. Thus, medium- and long-term mortality and adverse event rates remain relatively high in patients with perioperative delirium. Despite the relatively high incidence of perioperative delirium in patients undergoing coronary artery revascularization, it has not been systematically investigated. Inflammation, vascular damage, neuronal damage, and embolism are all involved in the injury process. Here, we discuss the incidence rate, pathological mechanisms, and prognosis of delirium after coronary artery revascularization. We also discuss in detail the risk factors for delirium after coronary artery revascularization, such as anxiety, depression, mode of operation, and drug use. Objectives: Framed within a life course perspective and cognitive reserve theory, this study examined the mediating role of educational attainment for the association between child–parent relationships during childhood and cognitive function among older adults in rural China. Methods: Data were obtained from three waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (N = 9809). We employed latent growth curve modeling to test the association among early child–parent relationship quality, educational attainment, and cognitive function in later life. Results: Early child–mother relationship quality was associated with the level and change in cognitive function. Early child–father relationship quality was only related to baseline cognitive function. Educational attainment mediated the relationship between early child–parent relationship quality with mothers and fathers and cognitive function. Discussion: Parental relationship experience in childhood was one distal factor related to cognitive function among older adults. The current study aimed to investigate the associations between family relationship and cognitive function among Hispanic older population. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted with a sample size of 1,580 individuals from the Health and Retirement Study in the United States (mean age = 65.65 (SD = 9.33)). Family relationship was measured in three dimensions: structural, functional, and appraisal support. The results of linear regression analysis indicated that diverse composition of family network (β =.070, p =.009) and receiving financial support from family members (β =.060, p =.018) were associated with better cognitive function. Moderation analyses demonstrated that these associations were greater for Hispanic women than men. Current findings highlight the importance of family relationship on cognitive function among Hispanic older population and suggest that researchers and policymakers should put emphasis on the structural and functional aspects of family relationship to improve their cognitive health. Transposable elements (TEs) are known to play a role in genome evolution, gene regulation, and epigenetics, representing potential tools for genetics research in and breeding of conifers. Recently, thanks to the development of high-throughput sequencing, more conifer genomes have been reported. Using bioinformatics tools, the TEs of 3 important conifers (Picea abies, Picea glauce, and Pinus taeda) were identified in our previous study, which provided a foundation for accelerating the use of TEs in conifer breeding and genetic study. The present study examined the moderating role of family social capital in the relationship between community-based cognitive social capital and depressive symptoms among community-dwelling older adults in urban China. Cross-sectional data were derived from a community survey conducted in Suzhou, China, in late 2015. Data from 441 respondents were included in the final analysis. Multiple group analysis was used to test the hypotheses. The latent construct of community-based cognitive social capital was based on trust and reciprocity indicators. Measurement invariance was established across groups with high or low family social capital. The results show that family social capital had a moderation effect on the relationship between community-based cognitive social capital and depressive symptoms. The effects of community-based cognitive social capital on depressive symptoms were higher among those with low family social capital. This study examined the moderating effect of gender on the relationship between cognitive social capital and formal volunteering among older adults in urban China. Cognitive social capital refers to individuals' perceptions of their social relationships in local communities. We used quota sampling to recruit 456 older adults aged 60 years and older from 16 communities of Gusu district, Suzhou city, in late 2015. Multiple group analysis was used to examine the proposed model. Gender had a moderating effect on the relationship between cognitive social capital and volunteering. The associations between cognitive social capital and volunteering were higher among older men than older women. The findings highlight the important role of cognitive social capital in influencing formal volunteering among older adults in urban Chinese contexts. The findings are particularly important for enhancing volunteering among older adults across different social and economic backgrounds. Policy and intervention implications are discussed. The present study aimed to examine the association between community social capital and positive caregiving experiences among adult-children caregivers of disabled older adults in urban China. Data for this study were derived from the 2016 wave of the Longitudinal Study on Family Caregivers for Frail Older Adults Aged 75 or Above in Shanghai. The final analysis featured 440 disabled older adult and adult-children caregiver dyads. Multiple indicators and multiple causes modeling was used to test the proposed model from a structural equation modeling perspective. Provision of support to others was significantly associated with self-affirmation. Citizenship activity was significantly associated with life enrichment. Support of units (i.e., employers) was significantly associated with self-affirmation and life enrichment. The findings support the integration of the stress process model and social capital theory and highlight the important role of community social capital in enhancing the subdimensions of positive caregiving experiences. The present study aimed to test the moderating effect of gender on the relationship between social capital and life satisfaction among older adults in urban China. A quota sampling method was used to select 456 older adults aged 60 and older from 16 local communities in Suzhou city in 2015. Hierarchical multiple regression was employed to test the proposed models. The associations between family social capital and life satisfaction were higher among older men than women. Trust and helping others were stronger predictors of older women’s life satisfaction than their male counterparts. Citizenship activities affected life satisfaction among older men only. The findings highlight the important role of social capital in sustaining and/or improving life satisfaction among both older women and men. Policy and intervention implications are discussed. This study determined the associations of apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio with fasting blood glucose (FBG) and evaluated the mediating effects of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and body mass index (BMI). A cross-sectional study with 4805 coronary artery disease (CAD) patients was performed. In multivariable analyses, higher ApoA1, HDL-C, and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio were associated with significantly lower FBG level (Q [quartile] 4 vs Q1: 5.67 vs 5.87 mmol/L for ApoA1; 5.64 vs 5.98 mmol/L for HDL-C; 5.63 vs 6.01 mmol/L for HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio). Moreover, inverse associations of ApoA1, HDL-C, and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio with abnormal FBG (AFBG) were found with odd ratios (95% confidence interval) of .83 (.70–.98), .60 (.50–.71), and .53 (.45–.64) in Q4 compared with Q1. Path analyses indicated that “ApoA1 (or HDL-C)-FBG” associations were mediated by hsCRP and “HDL-C-FBG” association was mediated by BMI. Our data suggested that higher ApoA1, HDL-C, and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio were favorably associated with a lower FBG level in CAD patients and these associations might be mediated by hsCRP or BMI. Collectively, higher concentrations of ApoA1, HDL-C, and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio might decrease the risk of AFBG. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study examined trajectory patterns of self-rated health (SRH) among older rural Chinese adults and gender differences in the relationship between intergenerational relationships and SRH trajectories. Using data from four waves of a longitudinal study on the well-being of older adults in Anhui province, a general growth mixture model was estimated to examine the SRH trajectory patterns and antecedents of SRH trajectory class memberships. A two-class model was selected to interpret the SRH trajectory patterns. The two classes were labeled remaining poor and good but declining. Intergenerational relationships were a significant antecedent of SRH trajectory class memberships among men but not women. Gender differences in the cumulative effects of intergenerational relationships on the health of older adults were identified in rural China.
