Background: Stress hyperglycemia (SHG) is related to an increased risk of mortality in diabetic patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). However, data are limited in non-diabetic patients especially in patients with multivessel disease (MVD). Methods and Results: In this retrospective study, 742 non-diabetic patients with STEMI and MVD were divided into SHG group and non-SHG group. The overall incidence of SHG was 24.9%. The incidence of no-reflow (NR) phenomenon (18.4% vs 11.8%; P =.024) and in-hospital mortality (1.6% vs.2%; P =.020) in SHG group were significantly higher than those in non-SHG group. SHG was associated with 30-day MACE (hazard ratio, 4.265; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.354–13.439; P =.013), but not 1-year. Multivariate logistic analysis showed that SHG (odds ratio: 1.691, 95% CI: 1.072–2.667, P =.024) was an independent predictor of NR. If complete revascularization (CR) was performed during PPCI, the incidence of NR would be significantly higher. Conclusion: In non-diabetic patients with STEMI and MVD, SHG is associated with increased SF-NR and short-term adverse events, and CR during PPCI further increases the risk of NR. The association between prior stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) and clinical outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) has not been well explored. We evaluated the impact of prior stroke/TIA on this specific patient population. We conducted an international multicenter study including 15 401 patients with ACS from the Bleeding Complications in a Multicenter Registry of Patients Discharged With Diagnosis of Acute Coronary Syndrome registry. They were divided into 2 groups: patients with and without prior stroke/TIA. The primary end point was death at 1-year follow-up. Prior stroke/TIA was associated with higher rate of 1-year death (8.7% vs 3.4%; P <.001). It was an independent predictor of 1-year death even after adjustment for confounding variables (odds ratio, 1.705; 95% confidence interval, 1.046-2.778; P =.032). Besides, patients with prior stroke/TIA had significantly increased 1-year reinfarction (5.6% vs 3.8%, P =.015), in-hospital bleeding (8.7% vs 5.8%, P <.001), and 1-year bleeding (5.2% vs 3.0%, P <.001). No difference of antithrombotic therapies or dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) types on outcomes was observed in patients with prior stroke/TIA. Prior stroke/TIA was associated with higher 1-year death for patients with ACS who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention. Cardiac rupture (CR) is a complication of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) that is associated with a high mortality rate. This study aimed to identify the risk factors for CR in patients with AMI. Medline, Cochrane, EMBASE, and Google Scholar databases were searched for relevant literature published through September 16, 2018. Eligible studies included patients with AMI and compared factors between patients with and without CR. Sixteen studies were identified and included in the meta-analysis. Results revealed that female gender (pooled OR=2.72, 95% CI 2.04 to 3.63, p<0.001), older age (pooled difference in means=6.91, 95% CI 4.20 to 9.62, p<0.001), infarction at left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) (pooled OR=1.85, 95% CI 1.03 to 3.32, p=0.039), and anterior wall infarction (pooled OR=1.87, 95% CI 1.30 to 2.68, p=0.001) were associated with increased risk of CR, whereas history of MI, smoking, and multivessel disease were associated with reduced risk of CR. Patients treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) had reduced risk of CR, while patients who had received any thrombolysis had increased risk of CR. In conclusion, results of systematic review and meta-analysis of existing literature suggest that risk factors for CR in patients with AMI include female gender, older age, new-onset MI, non-smoking status, LAD infarction, anterior wall infarction, and single-vessel disease. Furthermore, treatment with primary PCI may help reduce the risk for CR, while thrombolysis might increase the risk for CR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a study to explore the potential of models using near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy to estimate different concentration of Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) in powdered oil. The results indicate that In combination with a suitable preprocessing method, near infrared spectroscopy is a promising method for the prediction of DHA content.
