The textile sector is one of the production sectors that contribute greatly to the national economy in domestic and foreign trade. Despitethe production of textile products in Turkey, it is still a developing technology- driven human labor. This requires the textile industry to be a business line that must be taken very seriously in terms of occupational health and safety. In this study, it was aimed to determine oxidant- antioxidant parameters and compare with control group in workers in a large textile factory dye house. The control group consisted of 40 people working in the factory or different areas of the factory that had not been exposed to paint and the experimental group consisted of 40 people working in the dye- exposed dye house. From each volunteer 5 ml fasting venous blood sample were taken into yellow cover vacuum plastic gel tube and centrifuged at 4000 rpm for 5- 10 minutes and their serums were separated. Vitamins A, E, C, malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant status (TAS) and total oxidant status (TOS) levels were determined by using appropriate kits in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and auto analyser devices in the laboratory and compared with the control group. As a result, it was found that vitamins A, E, C and TAS levels decreased significantly in the dye house compared to the control group (p< 0.001) and TOS and MDA levels increased significantly compared to the control group (p< 0.001). In the results, the relationship between the control group and the experimental group was examined and evaluated with the help of SPSS program. Pneumonia and pneumoenteritis are the major problems affect health and performance of calves and induce many losses even with treatment. Thirty calves were subjected to study; fifteen calves (group 1) showed fever, cough, bilateral mucopurulent nasal discharges with abnormal lung sound on auscultation. The remained fifteen calves were apparently clinically healthy and kept as control group (group 2). Clinical observation had been done and complete blood picture, oxidant/antioxidant profile and serum sodium, potassium and chloride were evaluated. Results of hematological analysis of group 1 showed a significant reduction in the RBCs count, Hb content, PCV and MCV indicating microcytic hypochromic anemia associated with a non-significant increase in the MCH and significant increase in both of MCHC and WBCs indicating leukocytosis. Results of oxidant/antioxidant profile of group 1 showed a significant reduction in the activity of CAT, SOD, GSH, GSH-Px and TAC values associated with a significant increase in the MDA level. While levels of serum electrolytes of group 1 showed a significant reduction in Na and Cl with a significant increase in K.

The present study was aimed to determine whether ethanolic extract of mangosteen pericarp (EEMP) changed oxidant-antioxidant status and foam cell formation in atherosclerotic rats. Thirty two male Wistar rats were divided into five groups (n = 6 for each), including standard diet (control) group, hypercholesterolemic diet (HD) group, HD + EEMP at doses of 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight. Analyses of serum H2O2 level, glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) activity were done using colorimetric methods. Foam cells counts were measured histologically with Oil Red O staining. One Way Analysis of Variance test was used to analyze the differences in all parameters. Hypercholesterolemic diet significantly increased H2O2 compared with the control group, but significantly decreased in EEMP-receiving group starting at dose of 200 mg/kg than that in HD group. There is no difference in GPx activity among all groups. Hypercholesterolemic diet decreased CAT activity compared with control group (P = 0.052), but was significantly increased in EEMP-receiving group at doses of 400 and 800 mg/kg. The levels of foam cells counts were significantly decreased in EEMP-receiving group at doses of 400 and 800 mg/kg than that in HD group. In conclusion, EEMP at dose of 400 mg/kg BW decreased oxidant levels due to modulation of catalase activity and also inhibited foam cells formation.
