The article focuses on the significant status and role of the Chinese traditional sports in the process of the implementation of fitness project for peasants in the western ethnic areas. It notes that Chinese traditional sports provide benefits in the new rural construction including the enhancement of national self-confidence in less-developed regions and the welfare of the farmers. Hence, Chinese traditional sports are seen as essential in the new rural construction in western ethnic areas.
