Abstract
The article discusses a study on the status of European identity and takes a closer look at European nationalism, interaction among European identity and other collective identities and its use as a political instrument. It cites the need to connect the issue of national and supra-national identities to the wider issue of socially construction identities. It notes that merging identities in a single homogenised national identity is obsolete and dangerous in view of European immigration issues.
The article focuses on the Italian ethnic community in Slovene Istria. It discusses the effects of European Union's integration and cross border cooperation initiatives on Slovene Istria and Italian ethnic community. It also presents the historical review of the cooperation between Slovenia and Italy.
