This is an intervention program for hypertensive patients whose aims were: Increase knowledge and information about the disease, promote better management of the disease through the development of skills needed for self-care in order to promote a better adjustment to disease, to promote adherence and finally promote coping strategies and stress management. The program consisted of six weekly sessions with ninety minutes each, based on a multidisciplinary approach that included: Psychologist, family doctor, nurse, nutritionist and physical therapist. The first two sessions addressed clinical aspects of the disease (symptoms, causes, consequences, treatment, and disease outcomes) and prevention of risk and healthy behaviors (alcohol, smoking, blood pressure monitoring and adherence to medication), the third session addressed the promotion of healthy eating

The aim of this study was to validate the "Questionnaire of Planned Behavior on Diabetes - Physical Activity", in a sample of type 2 diabetes patients. This questionnaire assesses variables of physical activity based on Planned Behavior Theory: intentions, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, action planning and coping planning. The instruments administered were: Revised Summary of Diabetes Self- care Activities (Investigation version of Pereira, Costa, & Castro, 2008) and Trust in Physician Scale (Portuguese version of Pereira, Pedras, & Machado, 2013). In this study participated 120 patients (39,2% women and 60,8% men) diagnosed with T2DM, whose average age was 59,7. Factor analysis found five factors, that explained 76,15% of the variance. Cronbach alphas were satisfactory and the instrument showed appropriate construct and discriminant validity. RESUMO: Os problemas causados pelo abuso e dependencia de substâncias assumem-se como um dos mais dificeis de resolver nas sociedades ocidentais. Os cuidadores informais dos Dependentes de Substâncias prestam cuidados que, por vezes, interferem com aspectos da vida pessoal, familiar, laboral e social dos cuidadores, predispondo-os a conflitos. Frequentemente, estas pessoas entram em situacoes de crise manifestando sintomas como: tensao, constrangimento, fadiga, stress, frustracao, reducao de convivio, depressao e alteracao da auto-estima, entre outros. Esta sobrecarga (burden) ou tensao pode acarretar problemas fisicos, psicologicos, emocionais, sociais e financeiros, que acabam por afectar o bem-estar do doente e cuidador. O Caregiver Reaction Assessment (Given, et al., 1992) e um instrumento que avalia aspectos especificos da situacao de cuidar, incluindo as dimensoes positivas e negativas das reaccoes dos cuidadores no cuidar de um paciente com uma doenca, podendo ser utilizado como medida de sobrecarga. Este artigo apresenta a adaptacao do CRA numa amostra de cuidadores de Dependentes de Substâncias. Os resultados mostram uma elevada fidelidade, sendo que tres factores explicam 58,76% da variabilidade total. A subescala Auto-Estima apresenta um α=0,95, a subescala Impacto na Vida Familiar do Cuidador um α=0,88 e a subescala Impacto no Quotidiano do Cuidador um α=0,70. Os 24 itens do instrumento apresentam um α=0,95, confirmando as boas qualidades psicometricas e mantendo todos itens originais. Os resultados obtidos com o CRA sugerem uma boa validade de construto, estando negativamente correlacionado com o Suporte Social (IESSS). Com base nos resultados obtidos, pode-se concluir que a escala apresenta boas qualidades psicometricas para ser utilizada numa populacao de cuidadores de Dependentes de Substâncias., sendo util como medida de sobrecarga. Palavras-chave: Sobrecarga; Cuidador Informal; Dependencia de Substâncias. SOBRECARGA EM CUIDADORES INFORMAIS DE DEPENDENTES DE SUBSTÂNCIAS: ADAPTACAO DO CAREGIVER REACTION ASSESSMENT (CRA)

Even if ageing is not necessary related with disease and incapacity, degenerative chronic diseases are often found in the elderly and this fact is related with great functional incapacity that determines consequences at the individual, family and community levels. The Family Relationship Index (Hudson, 1993) is an instrument that assesses the magnitude of problems in personal and social functioning in subjects family adjustment and, as such, is considered a measure of intra-family stress according to the author. This article presents the adaptation of IFR in a sample of older people living in the community. Results show a high internal consistency (α = .95) and the study of validity has determined the removal of one item while all the others saturate a unique factor that explains 46,86% of total variance. IFR shows good construct and discriminant validity. Based on the results, the scale presents good psychometric qualities and may be used in the elderly population living in the community. In terms of construct validity, results showed that intra-familial stress was negatively correlated with quality of life and positively with depression.
