The article reports on an autonomous underwater vehicle's (AUV) first trip under the ice shelves of Antarctica. The data provided by the AUV can help researchers understand what effects global climate change will have on the Earth's ice shelves. A sonar-equipped AUV named Autosub travelled 25km under the Fimbul ice shelf, revealing unexpectedly jagged terrain.
