An essay is presented on the use of statistics in science and the shortcomings associated with the practice. The author asserts that the so-called scientific method that involves statistical hypothesis testing is unsound. Also noted is the tendency to misunderstand statistical test results. The author believes that studies correlating genetics and disease have the most problems associated with statistical interpretations. INSET: Statistical criticisms.
