It was shown that iron forms complexes with dissolved organic matter in seawater, which hinders the color development of ferrozine chelates. To eliminate this factor, samples were heated and exposed to UV irradiation. The developed procedures were used for determining soluble iron species in samples of surface and silt seawater. The results agree with the data obtained by atomic absorption spectrometry.
