Foraging skills influence food intake and could therefore also play a role in mate choice decision. Previous empirical work has shown that individuals benefit from being in groups that include individuals with a variety of foraging skills as this increases foraging success. This idea, formalized in the skill-pool hypothesis, may extend to mate choice. Diverse foraging skills can expand the foraging niche of a pair and benefit offspring through enhanced parental provisioning, and exposure to a broader foraging skillset. To test this idea, we trained captive female and male budgerigars to solve one of two different novel foraging puzzle boxes. Then, females simultaneously observed two males that could solve either the same or the other box, and assessed female preferences in a binary mate choice apparatus. Females preferred males with foraging skills that differed from their own, independent of the skill type and the number of times males solved the foraging puzzle. Background: The prognostic significance of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in stage I invasive lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remains debated. Improving the lung cancer staging system requires further investigation into actionable mutations and their association with survival outcomes., Patients and Methods: A total of 410 patients with stage I invasive LUAD were analyzed for their driver mutations. Survival analysis of EGFR mutations, exon 19 deletion, L858R in exon 21, and minor genotypes were stratified by clinicopathologic characteristics. Kaplan-Meier and log-rank tests were used to determine prognostic significance. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression models assessed variables' impact on recurrence-free survival (RFS). Patients with further-profiled samples were divided into training and validation datasets by computer-generated random numbers. Multiple machine learning algorithms were applied to construct genomic prediction models, with C index evaluated for each., Results: EGFR mutations occurred in 210 patients (51.2%). In stage I invasive LUAD, EGFR mutations strongly correlated with poor RFS (P = 0.022), especially in never smoker (P < 0.001), female (P = 0.024), part-solid (P = 0.002), and stage IA subgroups (P = 0.020). The most frequently co-mutated gene was TP53. Moreover, patients with EGFR/TP53 co-mutations, regardless of mutant types, exhibited worse prognosis. A mutational prognostic model based on the random survival forest (RSF) algorithm achieved the highest mean C index (C index: 0.87 in training cohort versus 0.74 in validation cohort), and demonstrated strong RFS estimation performance [area under the curve (AUC):1-year, 0.87, versus 3-year, 0.92, versus 5-year, 0.92]., Conclusions: EGFR mutations are robust biomarkers for RFS estimation in stage I invasive LUAD. Compared with Zn 2+ , the current mainly reported charge carrier for zinc hybrid capacitors, small-hydrated-sized and light-weight NH 4 + is expected as a better one to mediate cathodic interfacial electrochemical behaviors, yet has not been unraveled. Here we propose an NH 4 + -modulated cationic solvation strategy to optimize cathodic spatial charge distribution and achieve dynamic Zn 2+ /NH 4 + co-storage for boosting Zinc hybrid capacitors. Owing to the hierarchical cationic solvated structure in hybrid Zn(CF 3 SO 3 ) 2 -NH 4 CF 3 SO 3 electrolyte, high-reactive Zn 2+ and small-hydrate-sized NH 4 (H 2 O) 4 + induce cathodic interfacial Helmholtz plane reconfiguration, thus effectively enhancing the spatial charge density to activate 20% capacity enhancement. Furthermore, cathodic interfacial adsorbed hydrated NH 4 + ions afford high-kinetics and ultrastable C‧‧‧H (NH 4 + ) charge storage process due to a much lower desolvation energy barrier compared with heavy and rigid Zn(H 2 O) 6 2+ (5.81 vs. 14.90 eV). Consequently, physical uptake and multielectron redox of Zn 2+ /NH 4 + in carbon cathode enable the zinc capacitor to deliver high capacity (240 mAh g -1 at 0.5 A g -1 ), large-current tolerance (130 mAh g -1 at 50 A g -1 ) and ultralong lifespan (400,000 cycles). NFKB1, a core transcription factor critical in various biological process (BP), is increasingly studied for its role in tumors. This research combines literature reviews, meta-analyses, and bioinformatics to systematically explore NFKB1's involvement in tumor initiation and progression. A unique focus is placed on the NFKB1-94 ATTG promoter polymorphism, highlighting its association with cancer risk across diverse genetic models and ethnic groups, alongside comprehensive analysis of pan-cancer expression patterns and drug sensitivity. The study reveals the intricate connections between NFKB1 and tumors, highlighting its significant roles in invasion, metastasis, genomic stability, and metabolic changes. Through meta-analysis, it is evidenced that tumor specimens exhibit increased NFKB1 expression when compared to non-tumor specimens, although its association with cancer incidence requires further investigation. Analysis from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database suggests that high NFKB1 gene expression may not markedly impact tumor patient prognosis. Objective: To develop and validate a model integrating dual-layer detector spectral computed tomography (DLCT) three-dimensional (3D) volume of interest (VOI)-based quantitative parameters and clinical features for predicting Ki-67 proliferation index (PI) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC)., Materials and Methods: A total of 162 patients with histopathologically confirmed PDAC who underwent DLCT examination were included and allocated to the training (114) and validation (48) sets. 3D VOI-iodine concentration (IC), 3D VOI-slope of the spectral attenuation curves, and 3D VOI-effective atomic number were obtained from the portal venous phase. The significant clinical features and DLCT quantitative parameters were identified through univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression. The discrimination capability and clinical applicability of the clinical, DLCT, and DLCT-clinical models were quantified by the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (ROC) and Decision Curve Analysis (DCA), respectively. The optimal model was then used to develop a nomogram, with the goodness-of-fit evaluated through the calibration curve., Results: The DLCT-clinical model demonstrated superior predictive capability and a satisfactory net benefit for Ki-67 PI in PDAC compared to the clinical and DLCT models. The DLCT-clinical model integrating 3D VOI-IC and CA125 showed area under the ROC curves of 0.939 (95% CI, 0.895-0.982) and 0.915 (95% CI, 0.834-0.996) in the training and validation sets, respectively. Background: The efficacy of immune rechallenge in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who responded well to initial immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment is becoming a research hotspot. This study was aimed at describing the survival and clinical characteristics after immune rechallenge in initial immunotherapy responders., Patients and Methods: We retrospectively identified 104 patients with advanced NSCLC who responded well in the first ICI and were rechallenged with immunotherapy to treat progression between January 2018 and June 2023 at Zhejiang Cancer Hospital. Progression-free survival (PFS) 2 and overall survival (OS) were defined as the time from the first day of the second ICI to the date of progression, death, or last follow-up., Results: Of 104 enrolled patients, 33 received immune monotherapy, and 71 were rechallenged with combination therapy (34 combined with anti-angiogenesis therapy). Patients with an initial immunotherapy duration exceeding 12 months, compared with a duration within 12 months, achieved a significantly prolonged mPFS2 and mOS (PFS2: 9.2 vs. 3.4 months, P < 0.001; OS: 25.5 vs. 10.7 months, P = 0.006). Patients rechallenged with combination therapy had significantly longer PFS2 than those receiving monotherapy (5.8 vs. 2.5 months, P = 0.040), and showed a favorable OS trend (15.9 vs. 10.1 months, P = 0.301). A significant difference in PFS2, particularly for patients receiving combined treatment with anti-angiogenesis therapy (8.7 vs. 4.6 months, P = 0.011), and a tendency toward longer OS (25.3 vs. 13.7 months, P = 0.090), were observed. Multivariate analysis identified long-term treatment duration (P = 0.005) and combined treatment with anti-angiogenesis therapy (P = 0.030) as independent positive factors associated with PFS after rechallenge., Conclusion: Immune rechallenge is recommend for responders with a prolonged initial immunotherapy duration. Gait disorders are common in patients with subcortical ischemic vascular disease (SIVD). We aim to explore the impact of white matter (WM) damage on gait disorders in SIVD. 21 SIVD patients and 20 normal controls (NC) were included in the study. Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was used to evaluate general cognition, while Speed-Accuracy Trade-Off (SAT) was used to assess executive function. Gait velocity, cadence, and stride length were measured. Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) data were analyzed using Tract-Based Spatial Statistics (TBSS) and Peak Width of Skeletonized Mean Diffusivity (PSMD). The relationships among WM damage, gait disorders, and cognitive function were examined through mediation analysis. SIVD scored lower than NC in MoCA and SAT tests (P < 0.001). Gait velocity and stride length were decreased in SIVD. SIVD had lower PSMD (P < 0.001). PSMD correlated with gait parameters, which were totally mediated by MoCA and partially mediated by SAT. The fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) of the genu of the corpus callosum (GCC) and body of CC (BCC) were correlated with gait parameters. The FA of the bilateral anterior corona radiata (ACR) was positively correlated with gait parameters, while the MD of the bilateral superior corona radiata (SCR), bilateral superior longitudinal fasciculus (SLF), and left external capsule (EC) were negatively correlated with them (P < 0.05). Gait impairments in SIVD were associated with cognitive deficits. Cognitive impairment mediated the WM damage and gait disorders. Purpose: Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is an aggressive mesenchymal malignant tumor with poor therapeutic options, but the molecular mechanisms underlying LMS remain largely unknown. Increasing evidence indicates that transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) levels are closely related to the advancement of various malignant tumors through diverse molecular mechanisms. However, the roles and regulatory mechanisms of TRPV4 in LMS progression remain unclear., Methods: Immunohistochemistry, Western blot, and immunofluorescence were used to investigate the relationship between TRPV4 expression and LMS. Survival analysis was conducted to evaluate the association between TRPV4 levels and prognosis in LMS patients. Intracellular Ca 2+ measurement, colony formation, CCK-8, wound healing and Transwell assays and peritoneal metastasis mouse model were used to verify the effect of TRPV4 activity and expression on LMS proliferation and metastasis. RNA-seq and proteomics were performed to explore the underlying mechanism., Results: TRPV4 was upregulated in LMS tissues and cells and served as a novel prognostic factor. Moreover, TRPV4 overexpression enhanced cell proliferation, cell migration and invasion of LMS cells in vitro, as well as promoted tumor metastasis in vivo, which could be blocked by HC067047 intervention or TRPV4 knockdown. Combined RNA-seq and proteomics analysis of KEGG pathway indicated that ECM receptor interaction was obviously activated. Extracellular matrix protein 1 (ECM1) was identified as downstream gene of TRPV4. Mechanistically, TRPV4 overexpression increased ECM1 level and activated the FAK/PI3K/AKT/GSK3β pathway, which could be reversed by TRPV4 knockdown or LY294002 treatment. Moreover, ECM1 overexpression enhanced the activation of FAK/PI3K/AKT/GSK3β pathway. And simultaneous overexpression of TRPV4 and ECM1 synergistically activated this pathway., Conclusion: Our findings provide a novel mechanism by which TRPV4 directly activates Ca 2+ /FAK/PI3K/AKT/GSK3β pathway and further indirectly enhances the FAK/PI3K/AKT/GSK3β pathway through the promotion and secretion of ECM1 to promote LMS malignant progression. Purpose: The systemic and local inflammatory response in patients after surgical operation is closely related to the quality of the wound healing. Low-quality wound healing and defects in the suture technique lead to the occurrence of incisional hernia (IH). However, the causal relationship between human circulating inflammatory cytokines, immune cell traits, and the risk of IH remains unclear., Methods: We used summary data from genome-wide association studies to assess the causal relationship between 91 types of circulating inflammatory factors, 731 types of circulating immune cell traits, and the risk of IH. The outcome dataset was obtained from FinnGen, including 6,336 patients with IH and 232,612 controls. We performed Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis to identify their causal relationship and immune cell phenotypes upstream of inflammatory factors. Inverse variance weighting is considered to be the main analysis method., Results: Among the identified cytokines, TNF-related activation-induced cytokine levels were associated with a lower risk of IH (OR: 0.89; 95% CI: 0.82-0.96; P = 0.003). In contrast, interleukin-5 levels were associated with an increased risk of IH (OR: 1.18; 95% CI: 1.06-1.31; P = 0.003). Additionally, a significant causal relationship was found between four immune cell traits and the risk of IH (P < 0.01). Through two-step MR analysis, we determined that interleukin-5 levels mediate the causal relationship between the relative count of CD25hi % CD4 + in Treg cells and the higher risk of IH., Conclusion: This study found a causal relationship between specific inflammatory cytokines, immune cell traits, and risk of IH. Purpose: To comprehensively evaluate and compare all the available reference guides for the safe use of drugs during pregnancy, with the goal of determining the scientificity and reliability of these reference guides., Methods: We searched PubMed, EMbase, CNKI, Wanfang Database, and VIP database to comprehensively identify the available reference guides. Moreover, we selected 103 drugs based on relevant literatures, and compared the recommendations of each drug from different reference guides., Results: A total of 14 available reference guides were identified. However, none of these reference guides assessed the risk of bias of original studies or the quality of current evidence. Seven reference guides adopted expert consensus method to formulate pregnancy recommendations, while the rest reference guides did not report the formation method. Moreover, 77.7% of the selected drugs had inconsistent recommendations among different reference guides. In addition, the referenced human and animal studies for the same drug differed among different reference guides., Conclusion: Our results indicate that current reference guides for the safe use of drugs during pregnancy are less scientific and reliable, and there are considerable discrepancies in recommendations from different reference guides concerning drug use during pregnancy. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrinological disorder affected by ghrelin. This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of ghrelin on PCOS manifestations in mice and to assess the therapeutic potential of ghrelin. Female C57BL/6 mice were subcutaneously injected with 6 mg/100 g dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) for 20 days to induce PCOS. Alterations in reproductive cycles, ovarian morphology, serum sex hormone levels, and related signaling markers were examined. Furthermore, ghrelin-induced effects on granulosa cells and the role of ghrelin/Gq/11/ Yes-associated protein (YAP) signaling were studied by silencing Gαq/11 or YAP using si-RNAs. Finally, we evaluated the therapeutic potential of anti-ghrelin antibodies in DHEA-induced PCOS mice. DHEA administration led to significant PCOS-associated changes including weight gain, disrupted estrous cycles, ovarian morphological alterations, and hormonal imbalances in mice, with elevated Gαq/11 and acylated ghrelin expression, which was also noted in PCOS patients. However, treatment with anti-ghrelin antibodies effectively managed DHEA-induced damage in PCOS mice. In vitro, ghrelin exposure resulted in granulosa cell injury and modulated estrogen receptors alpha (ERα) and YAP protein levels, whereas silencing YAP and Gαq/11 reversed ghrelin-induced detrimental effects and up-regulated ERα expression. This study revealed that DHEA-induced PCOS traits in mice could be improved by anti-ghrelin antibodies, with the ghrelin/Gq/11/YAP signaling pathway identified as a crucial mediator in granulosa cells, affecting ERα transcription to regulate PCOS. To evaluate the predictive factors affecting the stone-free rate (SFR) and complications of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCN) in the treatment of proximal impacted ureteral stones (PIUS) based on a new scoring standard. The data of 90 patients with PIUS were collected in this retrospective study between January 2015 and June 2023. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to determine factors affecting treatment outcome in terms of SFR and complications. The scoring standard for patients with PIUS was developed based on the univariate logistic regression analyses. In the univariate analysis, stone density (P = 0.015), and stone diameter (P = 0.032) significantly were associated with lower SFR. And degree of hydronephrosis (P = 0.014), Preoperative infection (P = 0.002), and history of lithotripsy (P = 0.045) were associated with occurrence of complications. Multivariate analysis indicated that stone density (P = 0.020), and stone diameter (P < 0.001) were associated with lower SFR; independent risk factors for development of complications were history of lithotripsy (P = 0.024), and preoperative infection (P < 0.001). Additionally, score ≥ 3 was the independent risk factor for both SFR (P < 0.001) and complication rate (P < 0.001). Subgroup analysis shown that there were statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of stone-free rate (P = 0.032) and complications (P = 0.015). According to the findings of this study, the stone score ≥ 3 was determined as a critical predictive factor of SFR and complications in PIUS patients undergoing PCN based on a new scoring standard. Objective: To investigate the association between depression, accelerated biological aging, and mortality risk, and to assess whether accelerated aging mediates the relationship between major depression and mortality risk., Methods: A prospective cohort of 12,761 participants aged 20 years or older from the 2005-2010 cycle of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was analyzed. Depression was assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), with scores of ≥ 10 indicating major depression. Accelerated biological aging was measured using phenotypic age acceleration (PhenoAgeAccel). Multivariable linear regression models and subgroup analyses were used to examine the association between depression and accelerated aging, while weighted multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models and subgroup analyses assessed the impact of major depression on mortality risk. Mediation analysis was performed to assess whether PhenoAgeAccel mediated the relationship between major depression and mortality outcomes., Results: Among the 12,761 adults, the weighted mean age was 46.6 years, with 48.8% being male, and 6.9% experiencing major depression. The results showed a positive association between major depression and PhenoAgeAccel (β: 0.61, 95% CI: 0.06-1.16). Over a median follow-up duration of 11.3 years (interquartile range: 9.9-13.1), major depression was associated with increased all-cause mortality (HR: 1.35, 95% CI: 1.13-1.62) and cardiovascular mortality (HR: 1.73, 95% CI: 1.18-2.54). However, the relationship with cancer mortality was not statistically significant after full adjustment for confounding factors. The mediation analysis further revealed that PhenoAgeAccel accounted for 10.32% and 5.12% of the associations between major depression and all-cause mortality, and cardiovascular mortality, respectively., Conclusion: Depression is associated with accelerated aging and contributes to increased all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. Accelerated aging partially mediates the association between major depression and mortality risk. Objective: To establish a multi-dimensional representation solely on structural MRI (sMRI) for early diagnosis of AD., Methods: A total of 3377 participants' sMRI from four independent databases were retrospectively identified to construct an interpretable deep learning model that integrated multi-dimensional representations of AD solely on sMRI (called s 2 MRI-ADNet) by a dual-channel learning strategy of gray matter volume (GMV) from Euclidean space and the regional radiomics similarity network (R2SN) from graph space. Specifically, the GMV feature map learning channel (called GMV-Channel) was to take into consideration spatial information of both long-range spatial relations and detailed localization information, while the node feature and connectivity strength learning channel (called NFCS-Channel) was to characterize the graph-structured R2SN network by a separable learning strategy., Results: The s 2 MRI-ADNet achieved a superior classification accuracy of 92.1% and 91.4% under intra-database and inter-database cross-validation. The GMV-Channel and NFCS-Channel captured complementary group-discriminative brain regions, revealing a complementary interpretation of the multi-dimensional representation of brain structure in Euclidean and graph spaces respectively. Besides, the generalizable and reproducible interpretation of the multi-dimensional representation in capturing complementary group-discriminative brain regions revealed a significant correlation between the four independent databases (p < 0.05). Significant associations (p < 0.05) between attention scores and brain abnormality, between classification scores and clinical measure of cognitive ability, CSF biomarker, metabolism, and genetic risk score also provided solid neurobiological interpretation., Conclusion: The s 2 MRI-ADNet solely on sMRI could leverage the complementary multi-dimensional representations of AD in Euclidean and graph spaces, and achieved superior performance in the early diagnosis of AD, facilitating its potential in both clinical translation and popularization., (© 2024. Phosphorus (P) overloading in aquatic environments has long-been recognized as the leading cause of water quality deterioration, harmful algal bloom, and eutrophication. This study investigated P removal performance by five cost-effective carbonaceous materials (CMs) in flow-through packed column systems. These CMs include biochars pyrolyzed from feedstocks of Eucalyptus (E-biochar) and Douglas fir (D-biochar), commercial biochar (C-biochar), iron oxide-coated biochar (Fe-biochar), and commercial activated carbon (AC). The physicochemical properties of CMs, such as specific surface area (SSA), pore volume, pore diameter, elemental composition, and surface charge, were characterized. The packed column experimental results showed that P removal performance followed the order: E-biochar < D-biochar < C-biochar < Fe-biochar < AC. Specifically, the sorption capacity of 1 mg/L of P in packed columns was 0.0036 mg P/g E-biochar, 0.0111 mg P/g D-biochar, 0.0369 mg P/g D-biochar, 0.077 mg P/g Fe-biochar, and 0.088 mg P/g AC, respectively. The largest SSA (1012 m 2 /g) and pore volume (0.57 cm 3 /g) of AC accounted for the most outstanding P removal efficiency mainly by physical sorption, while electrostatic interaction explained the high P removal by Fe-biochar (SSA as low as 32.4 m 2 /g). Depleting fossil energy sources and conventional polluting power generation pose a threat to sustainable development. Hydroelectricity generation from ubiquitous and spontaneous phase transitions between liquid and gaseous water has been considered a promising strategy for mitigating the energy crisis. Fibrous materials with unique flexibility, processability, multifunctionality, and practicability have been widely applied for fibrous materials-based hydroelectricity generation (FHG). In this review, the power generation mechanisms, design principles, and electricity enhancement factors of FHG are first introduced. Then, the fabrication strategies and characteristics of varied constructions including 1D fiber, 1D yarn, 2D fabric, 2D membrane, 3D fibrous framework, and 3D fibrous gel are demonstrated. Afterward, the advanced functions of FHG during water harvesting, proton dissociation, ion separation, and charge accumulation processes are analyzed in detail. Moreover, the potential applications including power supply, energy storage, electrical sensor, and information expression are also discussed. Zinc-ion batteries are promising for large-scale electrochemical energy storage systems, which still suffer from interfacial issues, e.g., hydrogen evolution side reaction (HER), self-corrosion, and uncontrollable dendritic Zn electrodeposition. Although the regulation of electric double layer (EDL) has been verified for interfacial issues, the principle to select the additive as the regulator is still misted. Here, several typical amino acids with different characteristics were examined to reveal the interfacial behaviors in regulated EDL on the Zn anode. Negative charged acidic polarity (NCAP) has been unveiled as the guideline for selecting additive to reconstruct EDL with an inner zincophilic H 2 O-poor layer and to replace H 2 O molecules of hydrated Zn 2+ with NCAP glutamate. Taking the synergistic effects of EDL regulation, the uncontrollable interface is significantly stabilized from the suppressed HER and anti-self-corrosion with uniform electrodeposition. Consequently, by adding NCAP glutamate, a high average Coulombic efficiency of 99.83% of Zn metal is achieved in Zn|Cu asymmetrical cell for over 2000 cycles, and NH 4 V 4 O 10 |Zn full cell exhibits a high-capacity retention of 82.1% after 3000 cycles at 2 A g -1 . Machine tools constitute the backbone of the industrial sector, representing the largest global inventory of equipment. The carbon emissions resulting from the production of each machine tool merit attention. Effective management of carbon emissions in the machine tool manufacturing process is crucial. This paper introduces a novel method for early carbon emission warnings in the machine tool manufacturing process, utilizing an adaptive dynamic exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) approach. This method addresses the challenges in identifying and monitoring abnormal carbon emissions, emerging from uncertainties and dynamic correlations. Utilizing dynamic sampling techniques and adaptive principles, this method constructs an adaptive dynamic EWMA control chart. The EWMA control chart incorporates a multi-objective optimization design model, concentrating on carbon emissions in the machine tool manufacturing process, and incorporates statistical, economic, and environmental objectives. To mitigate slow convergence rates and enhance optimization accuracy in complex control chart multi-objective optimization algorithms, this study proposes an enhanced Harris hawks optimization (HHO) algorithm as the solving algorithm. Finally, the application of this method is demonstrated through the monitoring of carbon emissions in the manufacturing process of a five-axis machine tool (EOC), as a case study. The results validate the method's rapid responsiveness to abnormal carbon emissions, providing alerts. This further confirms the efficacy and feasibility of the proposed approach. Background: Although systemic therapies are recommended for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with main portal vein (MPV) invasion and preserved liver function, the outcome is limited. In the real-world, chemoembolization is a commonly used local treatment for advanced HCC., Purpose: To evaluate whether the additional chemoembolization treatment yields survival benefits compared to systemic therapy for HCC patients with MPV invasion and preserved liver function (Child-Pugh score ≤ B7) in a real-world study from multiple centers., Patients and Methods: Between January 2020 and December 2022, 91 consecutive HCC patients with MPV invasion who received either systemic medical therapy (i.e., tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) plus anti-PD-1 immunotherapy, S group, n = 43) or in combination with chemoembolization treatment (S-T group, n = 48) from five centers were enrolled in the study. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS), and the secondary outcomes were progression-free survival (PFS) and treatment response. Adverse events (AEs) related to treatment were also recorded. Survival curves were constructed with the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank test., Results: The baseline characteristics were comparable between the two groups. The mean number of chemoembolization sessions per patient was 2.1 (range 1-3). The median OS was 10.0 months and 8.0 months in the S-T group and S group, respectively (P = 0.254). The median PFS between the two groups was similar (4.0 months vs. 4.0 months, P = 0.404). The disease control rate between the S-T and S groups were comparable (60.4% vs. 62.8%, P = 0.816). Although no chemoembolization-related deaths occurred, 13 grade 3-4 AEs occurred in the S-T group., Conclusions: The results of the real-world study demonstrated that additional chemoembolization treatment did not yield survival benefits compared to TKIs plus anti-PD-1 immunotherapy for the overall patients with advanced HCC and MPV invasion., (© 2024. Objective: We developed and validated a clinical-radiomics model for preoperative prediction of the short-term efficacy of initial drug-eluting beads transarterial chemoembolization (D-TACE) treatment in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)., Methods: In this retrospective cohort study of 113 patients with intermediate and advanced HCC, 5343 features were extracted based on three sequences of the arterial phase (AP), diffusion-weighted imaging, and T2-weighted images based on contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, and minimum redundancy maximum correlation and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression were applied for feature selection and model construction. Multifactor logistic regression was used to build a clinical-imaging model based on clinical factors and a clinical-radiomics model. The area under the curve (AUC) and calibration curves were used to assess model performance, and the clinical value of the model was analyzed using decision curve analysis. The relationship between the actual and predicted short-term efficacy of the combined model and progression-free survival (PFS) was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier survival curves and log-rank tests., Results: A total of 34 radiomics features were selected by LASSO, and the clinical-radiomics model had the best predictive performance (AUC = 0.902 and AUC = 0.845 for the training and testing sets, respectively), and the model based on AP had the best predictive performance among the four radiomics models (AUC = 0.89 for the training set and AUC = 0.85 for the testing set); the multifactorial logistic regression results showed that microsphere type (p = 0.042) and AP Rad-score (p = 0.01) were associated with short-term efficacy. In addition, a difference in PFS was observed in patients with HCC with different short-term efficacies predicted by the combined model. Moreover, prognosis was better in the objective versus non-objective response group., Conclusions: The combined clinical-radiomics model is an effective predictor of the short-term efficacy of initial D-TACE in patients with HCC, contributing to clinical and economic benefits for patients., (© 2024. Demonstrating the temporal changes in PM 2.5 pollution risk in regions facing serious PM 2.5 pollution problems can provide scientific evidence for the air pollution control of the region. However, research on the variation of PM 2.5 pollution risk on a fine temporal scale is very limited. Therefore, we developed a method for quantitative characterizing PM 2.5 pollution risk based on the supply and demand of PM2.5 removal services, analyzed the time series characteristics of PM 2.5 pollution risk, and explored the reasons for the temporal changes using the urban areas of Beijing as the case study area. The results show that the PM 2.5 pollution risk in the urban areas of Beijing was close between 2008 and 2012, decreased by approximately 16.3% in 2016 compared to 2012, and further decreased by approximately 13.2% in 2021 compared to 2016. The temporal variation pattern of the PM2.5 pollution risk in 2016 and 2021 showed significant differences, including an increase in the number of risk-free days, a decrease in the number of heavily polluted days, and an increase in the stability of the risk day sequence. The significant reduction in risk level was mainly attributed to Beijing's air pollution control measures, supplemented by the impact of COVID-19 control measures in 2021. The results of PM 2.5 pollution risk decomposition indicate that compared to the previous 2 years, the stability and predictability of the risk variation in 2016 increased, but the overall characteristics of high risk from November to February and low risk from April to September did not change. The high risk from November to February was mainly due to the demand for coal heating during this period, a decrease in PM 2.5 removal service supply caused by plant leaf fall, and the common occurrence of temperature inversions in winter, which hinders the diffusion of air pollutants. This study provides a method for the analysis of PM 2.5 pollution risk on fine temporal scales and may provide a reference for the PM 2.5 pollution control in the urban areas of Beijing., (© 2024. Solar-driven interfacial evaporation from seawater is considered an effective way to alleviate the emerging freshwater crisis because of its green and environmentally friendly characteristics. However, developing an evaporator with high efficiency, stability, and salt resistance remains a key challenge. MXene, with an internal photothermal conversion efficiency of 100%, has received tremendous research interest as a photothermal material. However, the process to prepare the MXene with monolayer is inefficient and generates a large amount of "waste" MXene sediments (MS). Here, MXene sediments is selected as the photothermal material, and a three-dimensional MXene sediments/poly(vinyl alcohol)/sodium alginate aerogel evaporator with vertically aligned pores by directional freezing method is innovatively designed. The vertical porous structure enables the evaporator to improve water transport, light capture, and high evaporation rate. Cotton swabs and polypropylene are used as the water channel and support, respectively, thus fabricating a self-floating evaporator. The evaporator exhibits an evaporation rate of 3.6 kg m -2  h -1 under one-sun illumination, and 18.37 kg m -2 of freshwater is collected in the condensation collection device after 7 h of outdoor sun irradiation. The evaporator also displays excellent oil and salt resistance. This research fully utilizes "waste" MS, enabling a self-floating evaporation device for freshwater collection., (© 2024. Nickel-rich layered oxide LiNi x Co y Mn z O 2 (NCM, x + y + z = 1) is the most promising cathode material for high-energy lithium-ion batteries. However, conventional synthesis methods are limited by the slow heating rate, sluggish reaction dynamics, high energy consumption, and long reaction time. To overcome these challenges, we first employed a high-temperature shock (HTS) strategy for fast synthesis of the NCM, and the approaching ultimate reaction rate of solid phase transition is deeply investigated for the first time. In the HTS process, ultrafast average reaction rate of phase transition from Ni 0.6 Co 0.2 Mn 0.2 (OH) 2 to Li- containing oxides is 66.7 (% s -1 ), that is, taking only 1.5 s. An ultrahigh heating rate leads to fast reaction kinetics, which induces the rapid phase transition of NCM cathodes. The HTS-synthesized nickel-rich layered oxides perform good cycling performances (94% for NCM523, 94% for NCM622, and 80% for NCM811 after 200 cycles at 4.3 V). Key Message: Calcium polypeptide plays a key role during cadmium stress responses in rice, which is involved in increasing peroxidase activity, modulating pectin methylesterase activity, and regulating cell wall by reducing malondialdehyde content. Cadmium (Cd) contamination threatens agriculture and human health globally, emphasizing the need for sustainable methods to reduce cadmium toxicity in crops. Calcium polypeptide (CaP) is a highly water-soluble small molecular peptide acknowledged for its potential as an organic fertilizer in promoting plant growth. However, it is still unknown whether CaP has effects on mitigating Cd toxicity. Here, we investigated the effect of CaP application on the ability to tolerate toxic Cd in rice. We evaluated the impact of CaP on rice seedlings under varying Cd stress conditions and investigated the effect mechanism of CaP mitigating Cd toxicity by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), fluorescent probe dye, immunofluorescent labeling, and biochemical analysis. We found a notable alleviation of Cd toxicity by reduced malondialdehyde content and increased peroxidase activity. In addition, our findings reveal that CaP induces structural alterations in the root cell wall by modulating pectin methylesterase activity. Altogether, our results confirm that CaP not only promoted biomass accumulation but also reduced Cd concentration in rice. Background: Insomnia is a common sleep disorder with significant negative impacts on emotional states; however, the underlying mechanism of insomnia with comorbid emotional dysregulation remains largely unknown. The salience network (SN) plays an important role in both sleep and emotional regulation. The study aimed to explore the specific alterations in functional connectivity (FC) within the SN in insomnia patients., Methods: A total of 30 eligible patients with insomnia disorder (ID group) and 30 healthy controls (HC group) underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scanning and psychometric assessments. Differences in FC within the SN were examined using seed-based region-to-region connectivity analysis., Results: Compared with healthy controls, patients with insomnia showed increased FC within the SN, mainly between the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and right superior frontal gyrus (SFG), the right SFG and right supramarginal gyrus (SMG), and between the right insular (INS) and left SMG (P<0.05). Additionally, significant correlations were observed between increased FC and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA) scores (P<0.05, after Bonferroni correction)., Conclusions: These results suggest that increased FC within the SN may be related to poor sleep quality and negative emotions, highlighting the importance of the SN in the pathophysiological mechanisms of insomnia with comorbid emotional dysregulation., (© 2024. Purpose: The cavernous sinus (CS) region is a common region of dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF). Over time, treatment strategies are gradually changing. In this study, we present our center's experience in managing CS-DAVF over the past 20 years., Methods: Medical records of patients diagnosed with CS-DAVF between 2002 and 2021 were collected for analysis. Patients meeting the predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria were included. This study summarized and analyzed their clinical characteristics, CS-DAVF angioarchitecture, treatment strategies, and outcomes., Results: A total of 141 patients (mean age 55 years, 46 males) were included in this study. Ocular/orbital symptoms were the most frequently reported initial symptoms, with 84 (59.6%) patients experiencing these symptoms first. Presentation with ocular/orbital symptoms as the first symptom was associated with thrombosis of the inferior petrosal sinus (p = 0.032). Presentation with headache/dizziness and tinnitus/intracranial murmur as the first symptom was associated with sphenoparietal sinus/superficial middle cerebral vein drainage (p = 0.011). Among the patients, 131 (92.9%) patients received endovascular treatment, with 114 (87.0%) undergoing transvenous embolization. Onyx (92.4%) and coil (74.8%) were the most used embolic materials. 17 (13.0%) of the patients who received endovascular treatment suffered intraoperative or postoperative complications, and 11 (64.7%) patients fully recovered within 6 months after discharge., Conclusion: Ocular/orbital symptoms were the most common first symptom of CS-DAVF. The mode of venous drainage played a significant role in determining the first symptoms. The composite material SBC-Fe-x with sludge and Fe 3+ was developed by different calcination temperatures (600, 700, and 800 °C) for the removal of tetracycline (TC). The adsorption rates of SBC-Fe-600, SBC-Fe-700, and SBC-Fe-800 were 77.5%, 89%, and 91%, respectively. Furthermore, the Langmuir model indicated that the maximum adsorption capacity of SBC-Fe-700 (157.93 mg/g) was three times greater than that of SBC-Fe-600. The conclusions were confirmed by a series of characterizations that SBC-Fe-700 showed a larger specific surface area, well-developed pore structure, rich oxygen-containing functional groups and a high degree of graphitization. The results of pH experiments indicated the broad applicability of SBC-Fe-700 for TC adsorption. In addition, SBC-Fe-700 suggested outstanding performance in different water environments. To explore the potential mechanism of microRNA (miR)-181b-5p promoting the progression of thyroid cancer (TC) by targeting programmed cell death 4 (PDCD4). Analysis of miR-181b-5p and PDCD4 expression in TC was performed. The impact of miR-181b-5p and PDCD4 on proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis of TC cells was examined. The binding relationship between miR-181b-5p and PDCD4 was predicted and verified. miR-181b-5p was up-regulated in TC, while PDCD4 was down-regulated. Down-regulating miR-181b-5p or up-regulating PDCD4 inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of TC cells, and promoted cell apoptosis. PDCD4 was the downstream target of miR-181b-5p, and down-regulation of PDCD4 counteracted the inhibitory effect of down-regulation of miR-181b-5p on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of TC cells and the promoting effect on apoptosis. miR-181b-5p inhibits the proliferation, migration, and invasion of TC cells and promotes cell apoptosis by targeting PDCD4., (© 2024. Purpose: Tumors bearing mismatch repair deficiency (MMRd) are characterized by a high load of neoantigens and are believed to trigger immunogenic reactions upon immune checkpoint blockade treatment such as anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy. However, the mechanisms are still ill-defined, as multiple cancers with MMRd exhibit variable responses to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). In endometrial cancer (EC), a distinct tumor microenvironment (TME) exists that may correspond to treatment-related efficacies. We aimed to characterize EC patients with aberrant MMR pathways to identify molecular subtypes predisposed to respond to ICI therapies., Methods: We applied digital spatial profiling, a high-plex spatial transcriptomic approach covering over 1,800 genes, to obtain a highly resolved TME landscape in 45 MMRd-EC patients. We cross-validated multiple biomarkers identified using immunohistochemistry and multiplexed immunofluorescence using in-study and independent cohorts totaling 123 MMRd-EC patients and validated our findings using external TCGA data from microsatellite instability endometrial cancer (MSI-EC) patients., Results: High-plex spatial profiling identified a 14-gene signature in the MMRd tumor-enriched regions stratifying tumors into "hot", "intermediate" and "cold" groups according to their distinct immune profiles, a finding highly consistent with the corresponding CD8 + T-cell infiltration status. Our validation studies further corroborated an existing coregulatory network involving HLA class I and DNMT3A potentially bridged through dynamic crosstalk incorporating CCL5., Conclusion: Our study confirmed the heterogeneous TME status within MMRd-ECs and showed that these ECs can be stratified based on potential biomarkers such as HLA class I, DNMT3A and CD8 in pathological settings for improved ICI therapeutic efficacy in this subset of patients., (© 2023. Objectives: CT and MR are often needed to determine the location and extent of brain lesions collectively to improve diagnosis. However, patients with acute brain diseases cannot complete the MRI examination within a short time. The aim of the study is to devise a cross-device and cross-modal medical image synthesis (MIS) method Cross 2 SynNet for synthesizing routine brain MRI sequences of T1WI, T2WI, FLAIR, and DWI from CT with stroke and brain tumors., Materials and Methods: For the retrospective study, the participants covered four different diseases of cerebral ischemic stroke (CIS-cohort), cerebral hemorrhage (CH-cohort), meningioma (M-cohort), glioma (G-cohort). The MIS model Cross 2 SynNet was established on the basic architecture of conditional generative adversarial network (CGAN), of which, the fully convolutional Transformer (FCT) module was adopted into generator to capture the short- and long-range dependencies between healthy and pathological tissues, and the edge loss function was to minimize the difference in gradient magnitude between synthetic image and ground truth. Three metrics of mean square error (MSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and structure similarity index measure (SSIM) were used for evaluation., Results: A total of 230 participants (mean patient age, 59.77 years ± 13.63 [standard deviation]; 163 men [71%] and 67 women [29%]) were included, including CIS-cohort (95 participants between Dec 2019 and Feb 2022), CH-cohort (69 participants between Jan 2020 and Dec 2021), M-cohort (40 participants between Sep 2018 and Dec 2021), and G-cohort (26 participants between Sep 2019 and Dec 2021). The Cross 2 SynNet achieved averaged values of MSE = 0.008, PSNR = 21.728, and SSIM = 0.758 when synthesizing MRIs from CT, outperforming the CycleGAN, pix2pix, RegGAN, Pix2PixHD, and ResViT. Purpose: As the global population continues to age, there is a noticeable yearly rise in the incidence of hernias. Simultaneously, smoking, a widespread addictive behavior and a significant contributor to mortality, has evolved into a pervasive public health concern. Existing literature has already established a connection between smoking and an increased risk of postoperative recurrence and postoperative infections following hernia surgery. However, there remains a dearth of research exploring the association between smoking and hernia morbidity. In this study, our objective is to systematically evaluate the causal relationship between cigarette smoking behaviors and hernia morbidity using a Mendelian randomization (MR) approach., Methods: Hernia-related data were sourced from the FinnGen Biobank database, while cigarette smoking behavior data were gathered from the GWAS and Sequencing Consortium of Alcohol and Nicotine Use. To assess the causal relationship, we employed five methods: the weighted median, the weighted mode the inverse variance weighted (IVW), MR-Egger, and the simple mode. Sensitivity analysis was conducted, incorporating Cochran's Q test, the MR-Egger intercept test, leave-one-out analysis, and funnel plot. The presentation of the causal relationship is expressed as an odds ratio (OR) along with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI)., Results: Employing the IVW method as the reference standard, we found that smoking intensity is associated with an increased risk of diaphragmatic hernia (OR = 1.21, 95% CI 1.00-1.46, P = 0.047). These consistent findings were further corroborated by the weighted median and weighted mode methods (OR = 1.26, 95% CI 1.03-1.54, P = 0.026; OR = 1.25, 95% CI 1.02-1.52, P = 0.045). Conversely, when applying the IVW method, we identified no statistically significant causal relationship between smoking age, smoking initiation status, smoking cessation status, and the incidence of hernia., Conclusions: Our MR study has uncovered genetic evidence linking smoking intensity and the occurrence of diaphragmatic hernia. The risk of developing diaphragmatic hernia rises in tandem with the intensity of smoking. As one of the most fundamental thiol compounds in the human body, cysteine (Cys) is involved in maintaining redox balance. Abnormal Cys levels can lead to various diseases. In this work, we successfully synthesized a fluorescent probe (CTBA) that can specifically detect Cys using acrylate as the reaction site, and CTBA has met the selectivity and anti-interference for Cys detection under optimized conditions. The linear range for Cys detection is between 0.05 and 100 μM and the detection limit is 0.0381 μM. Finally, this probe is used to detect the Cys content in three bovine serum samples and the test results are satisfactory., (© 2024. Aqueous Zn 2+ -ion batteries (AZIBs), recognized for their high security, reliability, and cost efficiency, have garnered considerable attention. However, the prevalent issues of dendrite growth and parasitic reactions at the Zn electrode interface significantly impede their practical application. In this study, we introduced a ubiquitous biomolecule of phenylalanine (Phe) into the electrolyte as a multifunctional additive to improve the reversibility of the Zn anode. Leveraging its exceptional nucleophilic characteristics, Phe molecules tend to coordinate with Zn 2+ ions for optimizing the solvation environment. Simultaneously, the distinctive lipophilicity of aromatic amino acids empowers Phe with a higher adsorption energy, enabling the construction of a multifunctional protective interphase. The hydrophobic benzene ring ligands act as cleaners for repelling H 2 O molecules, while the hydrophilic hydroxyl and carboxyl groups attract Zn 2+ ions for homogenizing Zn 2+ flux. Moreover, the preferential reduction of Phe molecules prior to H 2 O facilitates the in situ formation of an organic-inorganic hybrid solid electrolyte interphase, enhancing the interfacial stability of the Zn anode. Consequently, Zn||Zn cells display improved reversibility, achieving an extended cycle life of 5250 h. Additionally, Zn||LMO full cells exhibit enhanced cyclability of retaining 77.3% capacity after 300 cycles, demonstrating substantial potential in advancing the commercialization of AZIBs., (© 2024. Background: Radiomics-based morphological brain networks (radMBN) constructed from routinely acquired structural MRI (sMRI) data have gained attention in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the radMBN suffers from limited characterization of AD because sMRI only characterizes anatomical changes and is not a direct measure of neuronal pathology or brain activity., Purpose: To establish a group sparse representation of the radMBN under a joint constraint of group-level white matter fiber connectivity and individual-level sMRI regional similarity (JCGS-radMBN)., Methods: Two publicly available datasets were adopted, including 120 subjects from ADNI with both T1-weighted image (T1WI) and diffusion MRI (dMRI) for JCGS-radMBN construction, 818 subjects from ADNI and 200 subjects solely with T1WI from AIBL for validation in early AD diagnosis. Specifically, the JCGS-radMBN was conducted by jointly estimating non-zero connections among subjects, with the regularization term constrained by group-level white matter fiber connectivity and individual-level sMRI regional similarity. Then, a triplet graph convolutional network was adopted for early AD diagnosis. The discriminative brain connections were identified using a two-sample t-test, and the neurobiological interpretation was validated by correlating the discriminative brain connections with cognitive scores., Results: The JCGS-radMBN exhibited superior classification performance over five brain network construction methods. For the typical NC vs. AD classification, the JCGS-radMBN increased by 1-30% in accuracy over the alternatives on ADNI and AIBL. Deep learning has great potential on decoding EEG in brain-computer interface. While common deep learning algorithms cannot directly train models with data from multiple individuals because of the inter-individual differences in EEG. Collecting enough data for each subject to satisfy the training of deep learning would result in an increase in training cost. This study proposes a novel transfer learning, EEGNet-based multi-source domain filter for transfer learning (EEGNet-MDFTL), to reduce the amount of training data and improve the performance of BCI. The EEGNet-MDFTL uses bagging ensemble learning to learn domain-invariant features from the multi-source domain and utilizes model loss value to filter the multi-source domain. Compared with baseline methods, the accuracy of the EEGNet-MDFTL reaches 91.96%, higher than two state-of-the-art methods, which demonstrates source domain filter can select similar source domains to improve the accuracy of the model, and remains a high level even when the data amount is reduced to 1/8, proving that ensemble learning learns enough domain invariant features from the multi-source domain to make the model insensitive to data amount. It needs to be improved the conversion efficiency and stable operation of conventional pyrolysis with high-temperature flue gas heating (HFH). Herein, a new radiative heating (RH) pyrolysis method is proposed. Experimental studies are carried out on a self-made radiation pyrolysis pilot plant to investigate the effects of different factors (pyrolysis final temperature, residence time, and carrier gas volume) on product distribution. The results show that with the increase of pyrolysis temperature, the yield of the gas phase consistently increases, and the proportion of CH 4 and H 2 in the pyrolysis gas reaches 62.31% at 700 °C. The yield of the liquid phase increases and then decreases. The recovery rate of pyrolysis oil achieves 68.07% when the pyrolysis temperature is 600 °C with main components of ketones and unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds. The yield of the solid phase consistently decreases. The RH in this work generates more pyrolysis gas in the pyrolysis process and alleviates the effects of fouling layers on the continuous operation of the equipment which has guiding significance for the efficient resource utilization of oil sludge., (© 2024. Amid China's economic shift to high-quality development, addressing environmental challenges like greenhouse gas emissions and manufacturing pollution, there is a crucial demand for sustainable and eco-friendly development strategies. This study aims to investigate the impact of innovation efficiency in the high-tech industry on carbon emissions. It seeks to explore regional differences, mechanisms, and the influence of energy consumption structures in achieving sustainable development goals. Utilizing data from 30 provinces spanning 2009 to 2020, the study employs the DEA-Malmquist index model, spatial and temporal classification evaluation, and a panel measurement model to assess the efficiency of innovation and development in high-tech industries and their relationship with carbon emissions. The results indicate several key findings: (1) The overall operational efficiency of high-tech industry innovation and development in China is steadily increasing. However, there are distinct characteristics observed among provinces and cities, reflecting diverse input and output types. (2) High-tech industry innovation efficiency significantly contributes to carbon emission reduction, and there is regional heterogeneity in this impact. The central and western regions exhibit greater effects compared to other provinces and cities. (3) The optimization of the energy structure is identified as a mechanism through which high-tech industry innovation efficiency reduces carbon emissions. Moreover, different intervals of high-tech industry innovation efficiency yield varying effects on carbon emissions. This research underscores the importance of fostering high-tech industry innovation efficiency as a means to reduce carbon emissions. It also identifies key areas for future policy development and resource allocation, emphasizing the support needed for low-carbon technology research and development., (© 2024. The natural product Honokiol exhibits robust antitumor activity against a range of cancers, and it has also received approval to undergo phase I clinical trial testing. We confrmed that honokiol can promote the apoptotic death of tumor cells through cell experiments. Then siRNA constructs specific for PIAS3, PIAS3 overexpression plasmid and the mutation of the STAT3 Tyr705 residue were used to confirm the mechanism of Honokiol-induced apoptosis. Finally, we confrmed that honokiol can promote PIAS3 upregulation, in turn suppressing STAT3 Tyr705 phosphorylation through the in vivo and in vitro experiments. Honokiol was ultimately found to reduce tumor cell viability by promoting apoptosis through a mechanism dependent on the ability of Honokiol to promote PIAS3 upregulation and the selective inhibition of p-STAT3 (Tyr705) without affecting p-STAT3 (Ser727) or p-STAT1 (Tyr701) levels. PIAS3 knockdown and overexpression in tumor cells altered STAT3 activation and associated DNA binding activity through the control of Tyr705 phosphorylation via PIAS3-STAT3 complex formation, ultimately shaping Honokiol-induced tumor cell apoptosis. Honokiol was also confirmed to significantly prolong the survival of mice bearing xenograft tumors in a PIAS3-dependent fashion. Together, these findings highlight a novel pathway through which Honokiol can promote PIAS3 upregulation, in turn suppressing STAT3 Tyr705 phosphorylation and promoting the apoptotic death of tumor cells., (© 2023. MicroRNA (miRNA), functioning as a post-transcriptional regulatory element, plays a significant role in numerous regulatory mechanisms and serves as a crucial intrinsic factor influencing axon regeneration. Prior investigations have elucidated the involvement of miRNA-9 in various processes, however, its specific contribution to axon regeneration in the central nervous system (CNS) remains uncertain. Hence, the zebrafish Mauthner axon regeneration model was employed to manipulate the expression of miRNA-9 in single cells, revealing that upregulation of miRNA-9 facilitated axon regeneration. Additionally, her6, a downstream target gene of miRNA-9, was identified as a novel gene associated with axon regeneration. Suppression of her6 resulted in enhanced Mauthner axon regeneration, as evidenced by the significantly improved regenerative capacity observed in her6 knockout zebrafish. In addition, modulation of her6 expression affects intracellular calcium levels in neurons and promoting her6 expression leads to a decrease in calcium levels in vivo using the new NEMOf calcium indicator. Moreover, the administration of the neural activity activator, pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) partially compensated for the inhibitory effect of her6 overexpression on the calcium level and promoted axon regeneration. Taken together, our study revealed a role for miRNA-9 in the process of axon regeneration in the CNS, which improved intracellular calcium activity and promoted axon regeneration by inhibiting the expression of downstream target gene her6. Background: Isolated sinus dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) constitute a rare and distinctive subtype of DAVF, typically found in small case numbers or case reports. The optimal treatment for this DAVF type remains unclear., Objective: This study aims to further detail the treatment outcomes of isolated sinus DAVFs in a sizable cohort from a single center., Methods: A retrospective study was undertaken on a consecutive series of patients with isolated sinus DAVFs treated at a single institution from 2002 to 2022. The article delineates the clinical presentation, angiographic features, treatment strategy, clinical and angiographic outcomes, and complications., Results: The cohort consisted of 31 males and 13 females, with an average age of 52.0 ± 15.5 years (range, 16-83). The success rate for trans-arterial embolization (TAE) was 97.3% (36/37). Transvenous embolization (TVE) with the reopening technique was successful in 3 of 4 patients (75.0%). Two open burr-hole TVE cases (66.7%, 2/3) and one surgery (100%) resulted in immediate complete closure of the fistula. Immediate complete occlusion was achieved in 93.2% (41/44) of cases. There was one major complication (2.3%, 1/44) and two fistulas recurred (9.5%, 2/21)., Conclusions: The majority of isolated sinus DAVFs can be effectively treated with TAE using Onyx. TVE and surgery serve as alternative techniques when arterial access is deemed inappropriate or when complete occlusion cannot be attained with TAE. Objective: To construct and validate a model based on the dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) quantitative parameters and radiological features to predict Ki-67 expression levels in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC)., Materials and Methods: Data from 143 PDAC patients were analysed. The variables of clinic, radiology and DECT were evaluated. In the arterial phase and portal venous phase (PVP), the normalized iodine concentration (NIC), normalized effective atomic number and slope of the spectral attenuation curves were measured. The extracellular volume fraction (ECVf) was measured in the equilibrium phase. Univariate analysis was used to screen independent risk factors to predict Ki-67 expression. The Radiology, DECT and DECT-Radiology models were constructed, and their diagnostic effectiveness and clinical applicability were obtained through area under the curve (AUC) and decision curve analysis, respectively. The nomogram was established based on the optimal model, and its goodness-of-fit was assessed by a calibration curve., Results: Computed tomography reported regional lymph node status, NIC of PVP, and ECVf were independent predictors for Ki-67 expression prediction. The AUCs of the Radiology, DECT, and DECT-Radiology models were 0.705, 0.884, and 0.905, respectively, in the training cohort, and 0.669, 0.835, and 0.865, respectively, in the validation cohort. Exploring the influence of soil on antimony (Sb) aging could help predict Sb toxicity on nematodes that play an important role in agricultural soil nitrogen cycling. This study aimed to investigate the major soil factors affecting the aging process and toxicity of exogenous Sb. Therefore, nematodes were exposed to varying levels of Sb contamination (0-6400 mg/kg) in nine agricultural soils, with aging periods of 7, 56, and 168 days, under dark conditions at 20 ± 0.5 °C for 96 h. The results suggested that nematode reproduction was more sensitive to the toxicity of exogenous trivalent Sb (Sb(III)) compared to growth and fertility. Following 7-168 days of aging, the EC 50 of nematode reproduction increased from 546-1557 to 3560-6193 mg/kg in nine soils contaminated by exogenous Sb(III). Exogenous Sb(III) toxicity is overestimated without considering its aging process. The aging factors (AF) of nine soils aged over 7-168 days were calculated as 3.54-8.03. The regression equation AF = 0.923 pH - 0.812 (n = 9, adjust-r 2  = 0.687, P = 0.004) indicated that pH was the primary soil factor explaining 85.2% of the variance in the aging process of exogenous Sb(III). No significant toxicity was observed in soils contaminated with exogenous pentavalent Sb after 7 days of aging. Today's explosion of data urgently requires memory technologies capable of storing large volumes of data in shorter time frames, a feat unattainable with Flash or DRAM. Intel Optane, commonly referred to as three-dimensional phase change memory, stands out as one of the most promising candidates. The Optane with cross-point architecture is constructed through layering a storage element and a selector known as the ovonic threshold switch (OTS). The OTS device, which employs chalcogenide film, has thereby gathered increased attention in recent years. In this paper, we begin by providing a brief introduction to the discovery process of the OTS phenomenon. Subsequently, we summarize the key electrical parameters of OTS devices and delve into recent explorations of OTS materials, which are categorized as Se-based, Te-based, and S-based material systems. Furthermore, we discuss various models for the OTS switching mechanism, including field-induced nucleation model, as well as several carrier injection models. Additionally, we review the progress and innovations in OTS mechanism research. Finally, we highlight the successful application of OTS devices in three-dimensional high-density memory and offer insights into their promising performance and extensive prospects in emerging applications, such as self-selecting memory and neuromorphic computing., (© 2024. Purpose: We aimed at evaluating the diagnostic efficacy of a nucleotide matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) assay to detect drug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis., Methods: Overall, 263 M. tuberculosis clinical isolates were selected to evaluate the performance of nucleic MALDI-TOF-MS for rifampin (RIF), isoniazid (INH), ethambutol (EMB), moxifloxacin (MXF), streptomycin (SM), and pyrazinamide (PZA) resistance detection. The results for RIF, INH, EMB, and MXF were compared with phenotypic microbroth dilution drug susceptibility testing (DST) and whole-genome sequencing (WGS), and the results for SM and PZA were compared with those obtained by WGS., Results: Using DST as the gold standard, the sensitivity, specificity, and kappa values of the MALDI-TOF-MS assay for the detection of resistance were 98.2%, 98.7%, and 0.97 for RIF; 92.8%, 99%, and 0.90 for INH; 82.4%, 98.0%, and 0.82 for EMB; and 92.6%, 99.5%, and 0.94 for MXF, respectively. Compared with WGS as the reference standard, the sensitivity, specificity, and kappa values of the MALDI-TOF-MS assay for the detection of resistance were 97.4%, 100.0%, and 0.98 for RIF; 98.7%, 92.9%, and 0.92 for INH; 96.3%, 100.0%, and 0.98 for EMB; 98.1%, 100.0%, and 0.99 for MXF; 98.0%, 100.0%, and 0.98 for SM; and 50.0%, 100.0%, and 0.65 for PZA., Conclusion: The nucleotide MALDI-TOF-MS assay yielded highly consistent results compared to DST and WGS, suggesting that it is a promising tool for the rapid detection of sensitivity to RIF, INH, EMB, and MXF., (© 2023. Myocarditis is a rare immune-related adverse events (irAEs) with high mortality rates, with few reports on its clinical characteristics and prognostic impact. This study designed to explore the associations between cardiac parameters and outcomes of myocarditis in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who treated with immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI). Fourteen patients diagnosed with ICI-associated myocarditis by clinicians were admitted to the study analysis. By Cox univariate and multivariate survival analyses, potential risk factors for the development of severe myocarditis were identified. Survival analysis was also performed to explore the prognosis of patients with myocarditis. Among patients with myocarditis, higher B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels (P = 0.04) and conduction block (P = 0.03) were associated with progression to severe myocarditis. In addition, high lactate dehydrogenase (LHD) levels (P = .04) and myocarditis onset within 2 months (P = 0.02) were prognostic factors of severe myocarditis. The median progression-free survival (PFS) time and median overall survival (OS) time for all patients were 5.9 months and 18.5 months, respectively. However, there were no statistical differences between mild and severe cohorts in terms of PFS and OS (PFS: 4.5 vs. 8.5 months, P = 0.17; OS: 21.3 vs. 18.5months, P = 0.36). And we found that the earlier occurrence of myocarditis, worse PFS prognosis (4.5 months vs. 10.5 months, P = 0.008), while no difference in OS (18.5 months vs. 21.3 months, P = 0.35). Compared to mild myocarditis, severe myocarditis presented with higher BNP levels and cardiac conduction abnormalities.
