Computer assisted program for automatic nodule detection on a multi slice CT scan of the size of 512X512 pixels is discussed. Two and three-dimensional analysis on each layer of multi slice CT image, grey level threshold to detect the boundary of thorax and lung region, histogram equalization for contrast enhancement and morphological reconstitution of lung boundary have been used in assessing the nodule presence. Nodule characterization to meet the criterion of its being a nodule out of detected objects is done by performing a number of calculations on the elongation factor, area and perimeter and the intersection area of the objects.
