Abstract

The coupled anisotropic adhesion-friction model studied numerically in chapter 11 is verified in this chapter experimentally for some structured surfaces (originally published in [98]). The necessity to apply a coupled contact interface model including anisotropy for both adhesion and friction is shown in the current chapter via a set of experiments for a rubber surface possessing a periodical waviness, and therefore, an obvious anisotropic structure. The focus of experimental investigations is placed upon the measurements of the global macro characteristics such as global forces and trajectories of a sliding block in order to validate the proposed computational model. The theoretical results presented in Sect. 6.4 is taken here for validation.

The shortage of automatic SL translators makes it difficult to implement the interface and its evaluation, undermining researches in the area of digital accessibility.

Abstract

Based on the OGC New Generation SWE-Sensor Web 2.0 and other related projects implementation, this paper gives the four layers architecture of ocean sensor web and details of every layer. The Information Model layer and Interface Model layer are illustrated in detail by the actual example. At last an ocean sensor prototype system sharing data is presented based on the real ocean sensor observing system of 20 nodes wireless sensor network, which is the middleware between ocean sensors and ocean sensor observing data usage. Though the SWE 2.0 standards can be applied in complex scenarios, most of the available deployments are providing data from in-situ sensors.

We prove the hydrodynamic limit for the Ginzburg–Landau ∇φ interface model based on a two-scale approach recently introduced by Grunewald et al.6 under the assumptions of the strict convexity of the coarse-grained Hamiltonian and the logarithmic Sobolev inequality for canonical Gibbs measures. In particular, strictly convex potentials satisfy these assumptions.

The paper presents an analysis of the multimodal interface model for the socially dependent people. The general requirements for the interface were to be as simple as possible and as natural as possible (in principle such interface should be the theoretical replacement of a typical "standard" one finger "joystick" control). Performed experiments allowed us to detect the most often used commands, the expected accuracy level for the selected applications and perform various usability tests.

Abstract

The term phase field has recently become known across many fields of materials science. The meaning of phase field is the spatial and temporal order parameter field defined in a continuum-diffused interface model. By using the phase field order parameters, many types of complex microstructure changes observed in materials science are described effectively. This methodology has been referred to as the phase field method, phase field simulation, phase field modeling, phase field approach, etc. In this chapter, the basic concept and theoretical background for the phase field approach is explained in Sects. 21.1 and 21.2. The overview of recent applications of the phase field method is demonstrated in Sects. 21.3 to 21.6.

Abstract

Occupant control actions in a building (i.e. user interactions with environmental systems for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, etc.) can significantly affect both indoor climate in and the environmental performance of buildings. Nonetheless, relatively few systematic (long-term and high-resolution) efforts have been made to observe and analyze the means and patterns of such user-system interactions with building systems. Specifically, the necessary requirements for the design and testing of hardware and software systems for user-system interfaces have not been formulated in a rigorous and reliable manner. This paper includes the prototyping of a new generation of user interface model for building systems in sentient buildings. The outcome of these efforts, when realized as a web-based user interface, would allow the occupants to achieve desirable indoor climate conditions with higher levels of connectivity between occupants and sentient environments.

Abstract

We analyze and discuss human performance model for PBUI (Push-Based User Interface) in this paper. PBUI is a user interface method in which a user performs a desired task by selecting a target object that usually represents the task itself. The candidate objects are sequentially and automatically presented to the user by the system. When a target object is presented, user selects the target object by a simple action such as just pushing a button. In this paper, we propose human performance model of PBUI and discuss the characteristics of PBUI. We also evaluate performance of PBUI by comparing with GUI.

Abstract

Multimedia applications are a branch of software development with growing importance. Typical application areas are training applications and simulations, infotainment systems – e.g. in cars – or computer games. However, there is still a lack of tailored concepts for a structured development of this kind of application. The current paper proposes a modeling approach for the user interface of multimedia applications with the goal of a model-driven development. We identify the special properties of multimedia application development and the resulting aspects to be covered by the user interface model. Existing conventional user interface modeling approaches are not sufficient, as they do not cover the media-specific aspects of the application. However, a multimedia application usually includes conventional user interface elements as well. Thus, we first propose a solution for the media-specific part. Second, we elaborate an integration of our approach with existing conventional approaches. Finally, we discuss the overall model-driven development approach and outline its benefits.

Abstract

We classify component-based models of computation into component models and interface models. A component model specifies for each component howthe component behaves in an arbitrary environment; an interface model specifies for each component what the component expects from the environment. Component models support compositional abstraction, and therefore component-based verification. Interface models support compositional refinement, and therefore componentbased design. Many aspects of interface models, such as compatibility and refinement checking between interfaces, are properly viewed in a gametheoretic setting, where the input and output values of an interface are chosen by different players.

Abstract

The Entity-Relationship model is frequently used during conceptual database design phases. However, this model can be enriched and then used for the complete lifecycle of a database as an interface model. For this purpose, the concepts of the ER-model need to be theoretically wellfounded. The aim of this paper is to show how the theoretical basis of one of the most important class of integrity constraints can be constructed and then used for the exploitation in practical database tasks. The concept of cardinality constraints is defined, generalized and used for the simplification of the design, for the improvement of maintenance programs and for the detection of problematic design decisions.
