17. Database Integrity Mechanism between OLTP and Offline Data

Abstract

This paper describes integrity mechanism between OLTPs and offline data. Normally every RDBMS supports five Integrity Constraints (ICs) namely primary key or composite key, unique key, foreign key, not null and check constraints. Online database integrity is achieved through these five ICs. However, as per the retention period data is backed up and removed from the OLTPs for space and performance efficiency. But there is no standardized protocol on keeping integrity between offline data and data present in the OLTPs. Therefore, we present a solution to address the problem of offline data integrity by keeping a representative set of purged data & ICs in the online database to ensure data integrity between OLTPs and offline data. We further support our proposed solution with the help of two types of integrity tests i.e., sufficient and complete test.

Abstract

Emerging Web services standards enable the development of large-scale applications in open environments. In particular, they enable services to be dynamically discovered and invoked. Our research objective is to propose new paradigms for interactions among semantic web services and software agents for problem solving. Agents are autonomous entities capable of acting on behalf of their user while Semantic Web services offer a new potential of automation in e-Work and e-Commerce, where fully open and flexible cooperation can be achieved on-the-fly. We believe that real goal of semantic web can only be realized if the semantic content associated with it can be read and interpreted. Since agent infrastructure has well-established reasoning, decision making and interaction mechanisms, it can contribute exceptionally in this regard. In this paper, we discuss the issue of negotiation between agents and semantic web services and propose architecture that enables negotiation between these heterogeneous entities.

Abstract

Wavelet transform has emerged over recent years as a powerful time-frequency analysis tool favoured for the interrogation of complex nonstationary signals. In this paper a new wavelet based algorithm for detection of Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia (VT) by analyzing ECG is presented. The proposed algorithm uses generalized regression neural networks (GRNNs) for detecting wavelet preprocessed ECG signals. A MATLAB routine using built in library functions for preprocessing removes high frequency noise. The preprocessed signal is applied to the spectral algorithm (SPEC) which works in frequency domain and analyses the energy content. If the algorithm decides that the ECG part contains VT, the result is accepted as true and no further investigation is required. On the other hand a further investigation is carried out to confirm the result or to disprove it. The terminal parts of the ECG signal are processed with a continuous wavelet transform, which leads to a time-frequency representation of the signal. The diagnostic feature vectors are obtained by subdividing the representations into several regions and by processing the sum of the decomposition coefficients belonging to each region. The neural network is then trained with these feature vectors. Based on this information GRNN classifies the ECG into presence or absence of VT. With this method, underlying features within the VT waveform are made visible in the wavelet time-scale half space. The proposed algorithm overcomes the non-sensitivity of SPEC algorithm utilizing its highly specific nature to the fullest, enabling the cardiologists and electro physiologists to detect VT with accuracy of more than 85%.

Abstract

Precise remote sensing and high resolution satellite images have made it necessary to revise the geometric correction techniques used for ortho-rectification. There have been improvements in algorithms from simple 2D polynomial models to rigorous mathematical models derived from digital photogrammetry. In such scenario, conventional methods of photogrametric modeling of remotely sensed images would be insufficient for mapping purposes and might need to be substituted with a more rigorous approach to get a true orthophoto. To correct geometric distortions in these, the process of geometric modeling becomes important. Pixel projection method has been devised and used for geometric correction. Algorithm has been developed in C++ and used for FORMOSAT-2 high resolution satellite images. It geo-references a satellite image while geolocating vertices of the image with its geo-locations extracted from ancillary data. Accuracy and validity of the algorithm has already been tested on different types of satellite images. It takes a level-1A image and the output image is level-2 image. To increase the geometric accuracy, a set of ground control points with maximum accuracy can also be selected to determine the better knowledge of position, attitude and pixel alignment. In this paper, we have adopted different techniques of approximations and applying three possible methods of interpolation for transformations of image pixels to earth coordinate system. Results show that cubic convolution based modeling gives best suitable output pixel values while applying transformation.
