While this legitimate approach on principle protects them from penal proceedings related to discrimination based on health status, it can now be observed that the imperatives of public solidarity or, respectively, the requirement to furnish justifications relevant to the differentiated treatment of insured persons produce more and more numerous exceptions to the above-mentioned rule.

Building the effective HPC resilience mechanisms required for viability of next generation supercomputers will require in depth understanding of system and component behaviors. Our goal is to build an integrated framework for high fidelity long term information storage, historic and run-time analysis, algorithmic and visual information exploration to enable system understanding, timely failure detection/prediction, and triggering of appropriate response to failure situations. Since it is unknown what information is relevant and since potentially relevant data may be expressed in a variety of forms (e.g., numeric, textual), this framework must provide capabilities to process different forms of data and also support the integration of new data, data sources, and analysis capabilities. Further, in order to ensure ease of use as capabilities and data sources expand, it must also provide interactivity between its elements. This paper describes our integration of the capabilities mentioned above into our OVIS tool.

Die Frage nach den vertraglichen Garantien der betrieblichen Altersversorgung betrifft unter anderem die Lebensversicherung, insbesondere im Rahmen der betrieblichen Kollektivversicherung, und, weitergehend, die Sparplane der betriebliche Altersversorgung. Jedenfalls geht es darum, zu Gunsten einer alternden Gesellschaft vertragliche, nicht auf Satzungen fundierte Modelle mit der Notwendigkeit ihrer inharenten Sicherheit zu vereinbaren. Unter diesem Fokus hat dieser Beitrag zum Ziel, die Anpassung des Lebensversicherungsvertrags an die Garantien der betrieblichen Altersversorgung und an die der betrieblichen Rentensparplane zu untersuchen. Dabei wird die Rechtsnatur der Gruppenversicherungsvertrage uber betriebliche Versorgung in ihrer leistungs- sowie beitragsorientierten Ausgestaltung analysiert. Aus dieser strukturellen Analyse ergibt sich die Darstellung des rechtlichen Rahmens der Ubereinkommen, insbesondere das Erkennen und die Behebung der Grunde fur die Schwachung der vertraglichen Garantien, die unzureichende Information uber ihren Inhalt, die Sanktion von Falschinformationen, das fruhzeitige Verlassen des Unternehmens und die Mitnahme der von den Arbeitnehmern erworbenen Rechte usw. Nach gleichem Vorgehensmuster –Rechtsnatur, System– wird die Privatversicherung fur Rentensparplane skizziert, die im Ubrigen nicht auf die Unternehmen beschrankt werden kann. Dabei werden verschiedene Situationen erortert: die Situation der Selbstandigen auserhalb der Landwirtschaft, die Rolle der Volksrentensparplane (Plans d’Epargne Retraite Populaire, PERP) und auch der betrieblichen Rentensparplane (Plans Retraite d’Entreprise, PERE), die auf einem individuellen, steuerlich geforderten Sparplan grunden. Die weniger ausgepragte Rolle der Unternehmen bei der Durchfuhrung solcher Rentenformen fuhrt dazu, die Lage ihrer Sicherheit zu uberdenken. Dazu wird auf die allgemeinen Schutzregelungen des Versicherungsrechts, auf vom allgemeinen Recht abweichende Regelungen und auch auf die Steuerung der Rentensparplansysteme durch ihre Trager zuruckgegriffen.

This paper describes a distributed-memory, embarrassingly parallel hexahedral mesh generator, pCAMAL (parallel CUBIT Adaptive Mesh Algorithm Library). pCAMAL utilizes the sweeping method following a serial step of geometry decomposition conducted in the CUBIT geometry preparation and mesh generation tool. The utility of pCAMAL in generating large meshes is illustrated, and linear speed-up under load-balanced conditions is demonstrated.

Summary. The vast majority of visualization algorithms for finite element (FE) simulations assume that linear constitutive relationships are used to interpolate values over an element, because the polynomial order of the FE basis functions used in practice has traditionally been low – linear or quadratic. However, higher order FE solvers, which become increasingly popular, pose a significant challenge to visualization systems as the assumptions of the visualization algorithms are violated by higher order solutions. This paper presents a method for adapting linear visualization algorithms to higher order data through a careful examination of a linear algorithm’s properties and the assumptions it makes. This method subdivides higher order finite elements into regions where these assumptions hold (κ-compatibility). Because it is arguably one of the most useful visualization tools, isosurfacing is used as an example to illustrate our methodology.

verdict is a collection of subroutines for evaluating the geometric qualities of triangles, quadrilaterals, tetrahedra, and hexahedra using a variety of functions. A quality is a real number assigned to one of these shapes depending on its particular vertex coordinates. These functions are used to evaluate the input to finite element, finite volume, boundary element, and other types of solvers that approximate the solution to partial differential equations defined over regions of space. This article describes the most recent version of verdict and provides a summary of the main properties of the quality functions offered by the library. It finally demonstrates the versatility and applicability of verdict by illustrating its use in several scientific applications that pertain to pre, post, and end-to-end processing.

Within the framework of a R&D project on ultrasound thermotherapy of brain tumors, studies are in progress to develop 3D numerical modeling of acoustic power deposition and temperature patterns in view of clinical treatment planning. Patient vs. tumor characterization is based upon 3D voxel data acquired from MRI examinations performed according to specific protocols which provide morphologic and angiographic data. Numerical simulations use the finite element method to solve the partial derivative equations describing (i) the interactions between ultrasound and brain structures and (ii) the processes of heat generation and heat transfer.

Microtubules play a key role in the dynamic spatial organization of the cytoplasmic matrix. They are involved in regulating the structure and positioning of intracellular organelles like the Golgi apparatus and endosomes, and they provide the tracks for directed movement of such organelles [Kreis, 1990]. Membrane-bounded cytoplasmic organelles attach to microtubules, move along or remain stably associated with them, and eventually detach. These interactions of organelles with microtubules appear to be specific. For example, endosomes, but not Golgi elements, reverse their direction of translocation along microtubules upon acidification of the cytoplasm [Heuser, 1989; Parton et al., 1991]. These various interactions require different levels of regulation; specificity and timing of binding and release, positioning, and direction of movement. We postulate, therefore, that different proteins must be involved in the regulation of these interactions of cytoplasmic organelles with microtubules.
