Introduction: Mandibular fractures have significant influence on oropharyngeal and laryngopharyngeal portions of the upper airway. They can be managed by MMF or ORIF., Aim & Objectives: To quantify and compare the effects of MMF with ORIF on the pulmonary functions of the patients undergoing treatment for mandibular fractures., Method: Total 42 patients with isolated mandibular fractures were randomly divided into two treatment groups. Group A comprised of 21 patients planned for ORIF under LA and Group B comprised of 21 patients planned for MMF under LA. Pulmonary function tests (PFT) were done in all participants preoperatively 24 h before, postoperatively after 24 h, 1 week, 4 weeks and 6 weeks using spirometry. FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, and PEFR were determined and compared., Results: PFT values in both the groups were comparable preoperatively 24 h before and were significantly lower than their predicted values showing adverse effect of mandibular fractures on airways. Postoperatively after 24 h, 1 week and four weeks, PFT values were significantly lower in group B (MMF) than in group A (ORIF). At six weeks postoperatively, when MMF was removed, there was no statistically significant difference in PFT values of both the groups., Conclusion: Mandibular fracture patients presented with abnormal PFT values. Introduction: Dental implants have been used in a variety of conventional technique-based forms for many years which had its own drawbacks. With the advent of cone beam CT, proper surgical and prosthetic planning is possible now a days. To achieve ideal implant placement, good prosthetic fabrication and overall successful prognosis computer fabricated guide aided surgery have been developed., Aim and Objective: The aim of this study was to compare and evaluate the accuracy of implant placement in partially edentulous patients with conventional free hand technique and computer fabricated guide of implant placement by comparing pre- and post-CBCT data., Methods: The present split mouth study design was conducted with forty sample size on twenty randomly selected patients who were treated with bilateral partially edentulous sites requiring dental implants. Patients were treated with both conventional (free hand) technique and computer fabricated 3D guide aided technique of implant placement. Comparison of accuracy of implant placement was done by comparing the pre- and postoperative CBCT data in terms of mean coronal deviation, mean apical deviation and mean angular deviation., Results and Conclusion: The results showed that there is no statistically significant difference between mean coronal deviation, mean apical deviation and mean angular deviation of planned and placed implants in both conventional technique (free hand technique) and computer fabricated 3D guide aided implant placement technique. Purpose of the Study: This study is undertaken to emphasize the role of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy and clinical analysis of the same in a tertiary care referral hospital., Methodology: One hundred patients with provisional diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy were studied. Physical examination, urine pregnancy test, transabdominal scan using 5 MHz transducer or transvaginal ultrasonography of 7 MHz was done. The diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy was confirmed by direct observation by laparotomy or laparoscopy (which was taken as gold standard)., Results: The study showed ectopic pregnancy was most common in gravida 2 and in age group 26-30 years with most of them having married life <10 years. One or more risk factors were found in 66 % of cases. 54 % of cases presented with acute symptoms, 14 % of cases in shock. Among clinical presentation pain abdomen, history of amenorrhea, bleeding per vaginum, abdominal tenderness, and cervical motion tenderness was most common. In ultrasonography, complex mass in adnexa was present in 60 % of cases and hemoperitoneum in 50 %. 96 % of cases were tubal pregnancy with most of them tubal rupture. In 98 % of cases, radical surgery was done. Salpingectomy was the most common surgery done (90 %). There was no negative laparotomy in this study. There was no maternal mortality in this series., Conclusions: In all the 100 cases of ectopic pregnancy studied, the ultrasonography provided definitive diagnosis resulting in 100 % sensitivity and 100 % specificity, predictive value of positive test being 100 %. Ultrasonography done in earlier weeks of gestation had sensitivity of 96 % and false negative 4 %.

Hydatid disease is a parasitic infestation of humans and herbivorous animals, caused by Echinococcu granulosus. Dogs and some wild carnivores, like foxes, are definitive hosts, harboring worms in their intestines. Musculoskeletal cysts account for 0.7-3% of total cases of hydatidosis. Primarymuscular hydatidosis without involving the thoracic or abdominal organs is extremely rare. Intramuscular infestation may mimic a soft tissue tumor leading to inappropriate cyst rupture with the attendant risks of anaphylaxis and dissemination to other organs. So preoperative evaluation is critical to avoid lifethreatening complications. We report a case of 34-year-old male patient with a cystic gluteal swelling turning out to be hydatid cyst on surgical exploration. Surgical excision with a pharmacology complementary treatment with antihelementhics is necessary to achieve the complete healing.

Parathyroid cysts are rare lesions arising in the neck and anterior mediastinum. Fewer than 250 cases have been pub lished in the literature. Parathyroid cysts constitute only 0.6% of all thyroid and parathyroid lesions, but should be considered in the differential diagnosis of anterior neck masses, particularly in the presence of hypercalcaemia.
