This article shows the Integral Foundation users' review for the Special Child (FINE), to the findings of an initial characterization and a derived statistic for applying psychotechnical instruments, specifically from the Adaptive Behavior Evaluation System. It shows important data regarding adaptive behavior and the users' executive functions before designing serious games to improve their socio-cognitive abilities. Among the most relevant results, it was determined that the study population shows limitations in the adaptive abilities obtaining the following scores: the rating of social domain 64 points, conceptual index 55.7, and the practical index 60, by which the general level of adaptive behavior stands at the one percentile, considering it at the lowest operating rank.

Although research on objective dimensions of the integration of children with a migrant background, with a particular focus on educational attainment, has been receiving increasing attention, indicators of subjective well-being remain still little explored in Italy. This chapter aims to fill this gap by exploring the relationship between subjective well-being in different domains of life and two indicators of educational attainment, the average grade on Italian and Mathematics and self-assessment of school outcomes, among children with a migrant background residing in Italy. Results show that subjective well-being at school and subjective well-being in the family are positively associated with both indicators of educational attainment among students enrolled in both lower and upper secondary schools in Italy. Conversely, and importantly, subjective well-being in the social domain (discrimination) has a negative impact on the self-assessment of school outcomes. Education being one of the key areas of immigrants’ integration, the results of this analysis have crucial policy implications, even more so now that the Covid-19 pandemic has deeply affected both children education and well-being and the integration of children with a migrant background.

The European Union (EU) is living tremendous challenges generated by the high level of social disparities within and between national populations. European institutions have a decisive role in changing this situation and improving social protection policies. Chapters of this book demonstrate that despite certain successes of the EU’s tools in the social domain, there is much to be done to achieve the social goals of the EU, namely the promotion of convergence between countries and improving social cohesion within countries.

This chapter discusses the most important social domain that is not organized along ethnic lines in Transylvania, namely the economy. The chapter aims to answer two general questions: First, to what extent is Romania’s democracy and economic institutional system able to capitalize on the potential assets stemming from ethnic diversity? Second, what kind of cultural, structural, and network resources do Transylvanian Hungarians possess, to what extent and how do they succeed in utilizing them in the economy? The main conclusion of the chapter is that the economic sector is not perceived as being ethnically divided in Transylvania; there are, however, a number of initiatives that may point toward an ethnically coordinated economic sector.

The purpose of this chapter is to outline the concept ‘figurational approach’ as one possible way of researching transforming communications. To do this, the authors reflect on our changing media environment, which is understood as being marked by deep mediatization. Second, they develop the argument that mediatization research is right to emphasize the domain specificity of (deep) mediatization. However, there is a need to sharpen the idea of social domain. With this in mind, the chapter demonstrates how it can be a help to investigate transforming communications by analyzing changing ‘communicative figurations’. Finally, in the conclusion, some remarks are made about what this means for practical empirical research.

The Netherlands is a decentralised unitary state. Territories have autonomous powers. There are three tiers: national, provincial and municipal. Despite discussions on territorial reform, the three-tier system so far has not undergone major changes. However, recent decentralisation of tasks and funds in the social domain has increased the pressure to up-scale and collaborate and has also been used as an argument in attempts by the national level to implement more radical territorial reforms. So far these more radical plans consisting of large scale mergers of territories have not been realised. Partly in reaction, a growing number of alliances and forms of collaboration between territories occur. Efficiency seems to dominate the debate on decentralisation rather than division of powers.

This volume presents theoretical developments, applications and computational methods for the analysis and modeling in behavioral and social sciences where data are usually complex to explore and investigate. The challenging proposals provide a connection between statistical methodology and the social domain with particular attention to computational issues in order to effectively address complicated data analysis problems.The papers in this volume stem from contributions initially presented at the joint international meeting JCS-CLADAG held in Anacapri (Italy) where the Japanese Classification Society and the Classification and Data Analysis Group of the Italian Statistical Society had a stimulating scientific discussion and exchange.
