The mining of open pit mines is widespread in China, and there are many cases of landslide accidents. Therefore, the problem of slope stability is highlighted. The stability of the slope is a factor that directly affects the mining efficiency and the safety of the entire mining process. According to the statistics, there is a 15 percent chance of finding landslide risk in China's large-scale mines. And due to the expansion of the mining scale of the enterprise, the problem of slope stability has become increasingly obvious, which has become a major subject in the study of open-pit mine engineering. In order to better predict the slope stability coefficient, this study takes a mine in China as a case to deeply discuss the accuracy of different algorithms in the stability calculation, and then uses a deep learning algorithm to study the stability under rainfall conditions. The change of the coefficient and the change of the stability coefficient before and after the slope treatment are experimentally studied with the displacement of the monitoring point. The result shows that the safety coefficient calculated by the algorithm in this paper is about 7% lower than that of the traditional algorithm. In the slope stability analysis before treatment, the safety factor calculated by the algorithm in this paper is 1.086, and the algorithm in this paper is closer to reality. In the stability analysis of the slope after treatment, the safety factor calculated by the algorithm in this paper is 1.227, and the stability factor meets the requirements of the specification. The coronavirus first appeared in China in 2019, and the World Health Organization (WHO) named it COVID-19. Then WHO announced this illness as a worldwide pandemic in March 2020. The number of cases, infections, and fatalities varied considerably worldwide. Because the main characteristic of COVID-19 is its rapid spread, doctors and specialists generally use PCR tests to detect the COVID-19 virus. As an alternative to PCR, X-ray images can help diagnose illness using artificial intelligence (AI). In medicine, AI is commonly employed. Convolutional neural networks (CNN) and deep learning models make it simple to extract information from images. Several options exist when creating a deep CNN. The possibilities include network depth, layer count, layer type, and parameters. In this paper, a novel Xception-based neural network is discovered using the genetic algorithm (GA). GA finds better alternative networks and parameters during iterations. The best network discovered with GA is tested on a COVID-19 X-ray image dataset. The results are compared with other networks and the results of papers in the literature. The novel network of this paper gives more successful results. Water conservation has become a global problem as the population increases. In many densely populated cities in China, leaks from century-old pipe works have been widespread. However, entirely eradicating the issues involves replacing all water networks, which is costly and time-consuming. This paper proposed an AI-enabled water-saving control system with three control modes: time division control, flow regulation, and critical point control according to actual flow. Firstly, based on the current leaking situation of water supply networks in China and the capability level of China's water management, a water-saving technology integrating PID control and a series of deep learning algorithms was proposed. Secondly, a multi-jet control valve was designed to control pressure and reduce water distribution network cavitation. In the globalization trend, China's cultural heritage is in danger of gradually disappearing. The protection and inheritance of these precious cultural resources has become a critical task. This paper focuses on the Miao batik culture in Guizhou Province, China, and explores the application of knowledge graphs, natural language processing, and deep learning techniques in the promotion and protection of batik culture. We propose a dual-channel mechanism that integrates semantic and visual information, aiming to connect batik pattern features with cultural connotations. First, we use natural language processing techniques to automatically extract batik-related entities and relationships from the literature, and construct and visualize a structured batik pattern knowledge graph. Based on this knowledge graph, users can textually search and understand the images, meanings, taboos, and other cultural information of specific patterns. Second, for the batik pattern classification, we propose an improved ResNet34 model. By embedding average pooling and convolutional operations into the residual blocks and introducing long-range residual connections, the classification performance is enhanced. By inputting pattern images into this model, their categories can be accurately identified, and then the underlying cultural connotations can be understood. Experimental results show that our model outperforms other mainstream models in evaluation metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, achieving 94.46%, 94.47%, 93.62%, and 93.8%, respectively. With the development of Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM), it has become feasible to perform device identification, energy consumption decomposition, and load switching detection using Deep Learning (DL) methods. Similar to other machine learning problems, the research and validation of NILM necessitate substantial data support. Moreover, different regions exhibit distinct characteristics in their electricity environments. Therefore, there is a need to provide open datasets tailored to different regions. In this paper, we introduce the Transient Dataset of Household Appliances with Intensive Switching Events (TDHA25). This dataset comprises switch instantaneous data from 10 typical household appliances in China. The TDHA dataset features a high sampling rate, accurate labelling, and realistic representation of actual appliance start-up waveforms. Additionally, appliance switching is achieved through precise control of relay switches, thus mitigating interference caused by mechanical switches. By furnishing such a dataset, we aim not only to enhance the recognition accuracy of existing NILM algorithms but also to facilitate the application of NILM algorithms in regions sharing similar electricity consumption characteristics to those of China. Located in Dunhuang, northwest China, the Mogao Grottoes are a cultural treasure of China and the world. However, after more than 2000 years of weathering and destruction, many murals faded and were damaged. This treasure of human art is in danger. Mural inpainting through deep learning can permanently preserve mural information. Therefore, a digital restoration method combining the Deformable Convolution (DCN), ECANet, ResNet and Cycle Generative Adversarial Network (CycleGAN) is proposed. We name it DC-CycleGAN. Compared with other image digital inpainting methods, the proposed DC-CycleGAN based mural image color inpainting method has better inpainting effects and higher model performance. Compared with the current repair network, the Frechet Inception Distance (FID) value and the two-image structural similarity metric (SSIM) value are increased by 52.61% and 7.08%, respectively. Wetland vegetation classification using deep learning algorithm and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images have attracted increased attentions. However, there exist several challenges in mapping karst wetland vegetation due to its fragmentation, intersection, and high heterogeneity of vegetation patches. This study proposed a novel approach to classify karst vegetation in Huixian National Wetland Park, the largest karst wetland in China by fusing single-class SegNet classification using the maximum probability algorithm. A new optimized post-classification algorithm was developed to eliminate the stitching traces caused by SegNet model prediction. This paper evaluated the effect of multi-class and fusion of multiple single-class SegNet models with different EPOCH values on mapping karst vegetation using UAV images. Finally, this paper carried out a comparison of classification accuracies between object-based Random Forest (RF) and fusion of single-class SegNet models. The specific conclusions of this paper include the followings: (1) fusion of four single-class SegNet models produced better classification for karst wetland vegetation than multi-class SegNet model, and achieved the highest overall accuracy of 87.34%; (2) the optimized post-classification algorithm improved classification accuracy of SegNet model by eliminating splicing traces; (3) classification performance of single-class SegNet model outperformed multi-class SegNet model, and improved classification accuracy (F1-Score) ranging from 10 to 25%; (4) Fusion of single-class SegNet models and object-based RF classifier both produced good classifications for karst wetland vegetation, and achieved over 87% overall accuracy. Bats are a crucial component within ecosystems, providing valuable ecosystem services such as pollination and pest control. In practical conservation efforts, the classification and identification of bats are essential in order to develop effective conservation management programs for bats and their habitats. Traditionally, the identification of bats has been a manual and time-consuming process. With the development of artificial intelligence technology, the accuracy and speed of identification work of such fine-grained images as bats identification can be greatly improved. Bats identification relies on the fine features of their beaks and faces, so mining the fine-grained information in images is crucial to improve the accuracy of bats identification. This paper presents a deep learning-based model designed for the rapid and precise identification of common horseshoe bats (Chiroptera: Rhinolophidae: Rhinolophus) from Southern China. The model was developed by utilizing a comprehensive dataset of 883 high-resolution images of seven distinct Rhinolophus species which were collected during surveys conducted between 2010 and 2022. An improved EfficientNet model with an attention mechanism module is architected to mine the fine-grained appearance of these Rhinolophus. The performance of the model beat other classical models, including SqueezeNet, AlexNet, VGG16_BN, ShuffleNetV2, GoogleNet, ResNet50 and EfficientNet_B0, according to the predicting precision, recall, accuracy, F1-score. Our model achieved the highest identification accuracy of 94.22% and an F1-score of 0.948 with low computational complexity. Heat maps obtained with Grad-CAM show that our model meets the identification criteria of the morphology of Rhinolophus. Thunderstorm gusts are a common form of severe convective weather in the warm season in North China, and it is of great importance to correctly forecast them. At present, the forecasting of thunderstorm gusts is mainly based on traditional subjective methods, which fails to achieve high-resolution and high-frequency gridded forecasts based on multiple observation sources. In this paper, we propose a deep learning method called Thunderstorm Gusts TransU-net (TG-TransUnet) to forecast thunderstorm gusts in North China based on multi-source gridded product data from the Institute of Urban Meteorology (IUM) with a lead time of 1 to 6 h. To determine the specific range of thunderstorm gusts, we combine three meteorological variables: radar reflectivity factor, lightning location, and 1-h maximum instantaneous wind speed from automatic weather stations (AWSs), and obtain a reasonable ground truth of thunderstorm gusts. Then, we transform the forecasting problem into an image-to-image problem in deep learning under the TG-TransUnet architecture, which is based on convolutional neural networks and a transformer. The analysis and forecast data of the enriched multi-source gridded comprehensive forecasting system for the period 2021–23 are then used as training, validation, and testing datasets. Finally, the performance of TG-TransUnet is compared with other methods. The results show that TG-TransUnet has the best prediction results at 1–6 h. Sepsis is a life-threatening medical condition that is characterized by the dysregulated immune system response to infections, having both high morbidity and mortality rates. Early prediction of sepsis is critical to the decrease of mortality. This paper presents a novel early warning model called Double Fusion Sepsis Predictor (DFSP) for sepsis onset. DFSP is a double fusion framework that combines the benefits of early and late fusion strategies. First, a hybrid deep learning model that combines both the convolutional and recurrent neural networks to extract deep features is proposed. Second, deep features and handcrafted features, such as clinical scores, are concatenated to build the joint feature representation (early fusion). Third, several tree-based models based on joint feature representation are developed to generate the risk scores of sepsis onset that are combined with an End-to-End neural network for final sepsis detection (late fusion). To evaluate DFSP, a retrospective study was conducted, which included patients admitted to the ICUs of a hospital in Shanghai China. Forecasting carbon prices has important implications for the formulation of environmental and energy policies as well as for the investment and management of workers in related industries. This paper proposes a novel multi-index nonlinear ensemble framework based on carbon price trading data and technical index data, which combines extreme gradient boost (XGBoost), K-means clustering algorithm based on elbow method (KCE), bidirectional long and short-term memory (BiLSTM) and bidirectional gated recurrent units (BiGRU). First, the XGBoost method is used to filter the raw data set to determine the input variables, and they were then divided into groups using the KCE method. Then, the BiLSTM method is used as the predictor for forecasting the sub model. Finally, BiGRU is applied to nonlinear integration. The developed prediction framework is used to predict China's regional carbon price to evaluate its performance. Experimental results show that the prediction performance of the framework in all target carbon markets is better than the benchmark model, and it is an effective tool for carbon market. Policy decision of curling refers to providing strategy suggestions for curling competition with the help of computers. Existing curling agents have achieved good results in the digital scenarios, but cannot make correct decisions when applied to actual competition and training scenes. In this paper, a strategies decision agent in the real scene has been proposed. The competition situation was acquired by a Situation-Aware Network and mapped by a Digital Extraction module. We designed Curling MCTS to explore the best strategy in continuous space. The effectiveness of our framework has been verified by experiments and evaluated by China's wheelchair curling team at China Disabled Sports Management Center. With the help of our system, China's wheelchair curling team trained effectively and won the championship in the XIII Paralympic Winter Games (2022, Beijing). Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is started from Wuhan (City in China), and is rapidly spreading among people living in other countries. Today, around 215 countries are affected by COVID-19 disease. WHO announced approximately number of cases 11,274,600 worldwide. Due to rapidly rising cases daily in the hospitals, there are a limited number of resources available to control COVID-19 disease. Therefore, it is essential to develop an accurate diagnosis of COVID-19 disease. Early diagnosis of COVID-19 patients is important for preventing the disease from spreading to others. In this paper, we proposed a deep learning based approach that can differentiate COVID- 19 disease patients from viral pneumonia, bacterial pneumonia, and healthy (normal) cases. In this approach, deep transfer learning is adopted. We used binary and multi-class dataset which is categorized in four types for experimentation: (i) Collection of 728 X-ray images including 224 images with confirmed COVID-19 disease and 504 normal condition images (ii) Collection of 1428 X-ray images including 224 images with confirmed COVID-19 disease, 700 images with confirmed common bacterial pneumonia, and 504 normal condition images. (iii) Collections of 1442 X- ray images including 224 images with confirmed COVID-19 disease, 714 images with confirmed bacterial and viral pneumonia, and 504 images of normal conditions (iv) Collections of 5232 X- ray images including 2358 images with confirmed bacterial and 1345 with viral pneumonia, and 1346 images of normal conditions. In this paper, we have used nine convolutional neural network based architecture (AlexNet, GoogleNet, ResNet-50, Se-ResNet-50, DenseNet121, Inception V4, Inception ResNet V2, ResNeXt-50, and Se-ResNeXt-50). Experimental results indicate that the pre trained model Se-ResNeXt-50 achieves the highest classification accuracy of 99.32% for binary class and 97.55% for multi-class among all pre-trained models. Objective: The high incidence of respiratory diseases has dramatically increased the medical burden under the COVID-19 pandemic in the year 2020. It is of considerable significance to utilize a new generation of information technology to improve the artificial intelligence level of respiratory disease diagnosis. Methods: Based on the semi-structured data of Chinese Electronic Medical Records (CEMRs) from the China Hospital Pharmacovigilance System, this paper proposed a bi-level artificial intelligence model for the risk classification of acute respiratory diseases. It includes two levels. The first level is a dedicated design of the "BiLSTM+Dilated Convolution+3D Attention+CRF" deep learning model that is used for Chinese Clinical Named Entity Recognition (CCNER) to extract valuable information from the unstructured data in the CEMRs. Incorporating the transfer learning and semi-supervised learning technique into the proposed deep learning model achieves higher accuracy and efficiency in the CCNER task than the popular "Bert+BiLSTM+CRF" approach. Combining the extracted entity data with other structured data in the CEMRs, the second level is a customized XGBoost to realize the risk classification of acute respiratory diseases. Results: The empirical study shows that the proposed model could provide practical technical support for improving diagnostic accuracy. Conclusion: Our study provides a proof-of-concept for implementing a hybrid artificial intelligence-based system as a tool to aid clinicians in tackling CEMR data and enhancing the diagnostic evaluation under diagnostic uncertainty. Removing motion blur has been an important issue in computer vision literature. Motion blur is caused by the relative motion between the camera and the photographed object. However, in recent years, some achievements have been made in the research of image deblurring by using deep learning algorithms. In this paper, an enhanced adversarial network model is proposed. The proposed model can use the weight of feature channel to generate sharp image and eliminate draughtboard artefacts. In addition, the mixed loss function enables the network to output high-quality image. The proposed approach is tested using GOPRO datasets and Lai datasets. In the GOPRO datasets, the peak signal-to-noise ratio of the proposed approach is up to 28.674, and DeblurGAN is 27.454. And the structural similarity measure can be achieved up to 0.969, and DeblurGAN is 0.939. Furthermore, the images were obtained from China's Chang'e 3 Lander to test the new algorithm. Due to the elimination of the chessboard effect, the deblurred image has a better visual appearance. The proposed method achieved higher performance and efficiency in qualitative and quantitative aspects using the benchmark dataset experiments. The results also provided various insights into the design and development of the camera pointing system, which was mounted on the Lander for capturing images of the moon and rover for Chang'e space mission. After AI proposed deep learning models, researchers also began to improve these models and use them in speech recognition. Through multi-layer nonlinear structure, the essential features are preserved and more abstract advanced features are extracted, so the recognition rate is improved. Computer-aided language learning will change the existing language teaching mode and learning environment, so that learners can learn independently anytime and anywhere. Deep learning can give learners accurate, objective and timely pronunciation evaluation and feedback guidance. It can also help learners find out the differences between their pronunciation and standard pronunciation through repeated listening and comparison, correct their pronunciation errors, and improve the efficiency of language learning. The occurrence of rockburst is related to the surrounding rock stress and geological rock mass strength. Rockburst occurs frequently during the construction at a deep tunnel in southwest China (a tunnel with a depth of approximately 2080 m, and a length of 13 km), leading to casualties, damage to construction equipment, and schedule delays. The application of the rockburst criteria based on the stress-strength/strength-stress ratio shows that they are not suitable for the construction stage. This paper suggests a simple and feasible rockburst intensity criterion based on the Geological Strength Index (GSI) for the construction stage. In this criterion, the strength of the rock mass exposed during excavation is estimated by the Hoek-Brown criterion and is used to reflect the geological conditions of the surrounding rock, considering the influences of the joint conditions and engineering disturbance. The maximum principal stress along the tunnel is obtained by the in situ stress inversion. The ratio of the rock mass strength to the maximum principal stress (σcm/σ1) is taken as the evaluation index. The criterion is as follows: σcm/σ1 > 1.2, none rockburst; 0.75 < σcm/σ1 ≤ 1.2, slight rockburst; 0.4 < σcm/σ1 ≤ 0.75, moderate rockburst; and σcm/σ1 ≤ 0.4, intense rockburst. The engineering applications show the reliability of this rockburst intensity criterion. As the demand for health grows, the increase in medical waste generation is gradually outstripping the load. In this paper, we propose a deep learning approach for identification and classification of medical waste. Deep learning is currently the most popular technique in image classification, but its need for large amounts of data limits its usage. In this scenario, we propose a deep learning-based classification method, in which ResNeXt is a suitable deep neural network for practical implementation, followed by transfer learning methods to improve classification results. We pay special attention to the problem of medical waste classification, which needs to be solved urgently in the current environmental protection context. We applied the technique to 3480 images and succeeded in correctly identifying 8 kinds of medical waste with an accuracy of 97.2%; the average F1-score of five-fold cross-validation was 97.2%. This study provided a deep learning-based method for automatic detection and classification of 8 kinds of medical waste with high accuracy and average precision. We believe that the power of artificial intelligence could be harnessed in products that would facilitate medical waste classification and could become widely available throughout China. Air pollution is one of the most serious threats to human health and is an issue causing growing public concern. Air quality forecasts play a fundamental role in providing decision-making support for environmental governance and emergency management, and there is an imperative need for more accurate forecasts. In this paper, we propose a novel spatial–temporal deep multitask learning (ST-DMTL) framework for air quality forecasting based on dynamic spatial panels of multiple data sources. Specifically, we develop a prediction model by combining multitask learning techniques with recurrent neural network (RNN) models and perform empirical analyses to evaluate the utility of each facet of the proposed framework based on a real-world dataset that contains 451,509 air quality records that were generated on an hourly basis from January 2013 to September 2017 in China. An application check is also conducted to verify the practical value of our proposed ST-DMTL framework. Pollution sources release contaminants into water bodies via sewage outfalls (SOs). Using high-resolution images to interpret SOs is laborious and expensive because it needs specific knowledge and must be done by hand. Integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and deep learning technology could assist in constructing an automated effluent SOs detection tool by gaining specialized knowledge. Achieving this objective requires high-quality image datasets for model training and testing. However, there is no satisfactory dataset of SOs. This study presents a high-quality dataset named the images for sewage outfalls objective detection (iSOOD). The 10481 images in iSOOD were captured using UAVs and handheld cameras by individuals from the river basin in China. This study has carefully annotated these images to ensure accuracy and consistency. The iSOOD has undergone technical validation utilizing the YOLOv10 series objective detection model. With the increasing global population and escalating ecological and farmland degradation, challenges to the environment and livelihoods have become prominent. Coordinating urban development, food security, and ecological conservation is crucial for fostering sustainable development. This study focuses on assessing the "Ecology-Agriculture-Urban" (E-A-U) space in Yulin City, China, as a representative case. Following the framework proposed by Chinese named "environmental capacity and national space development suitability evaluation" (hereinafter referred to as "Double Evaluation"), we developed a Self-Attention Residual Neural Network (SARes-NET) model to assess the E-U-A space. Spatially, the northwest region is dominated by agriculture, while the southeast is characterized by urban and ecological areas, aligning with regional development patterns. Comparative validations with five other models, including Logistic Regression (LR), Naive Bayes (NB), Gradient Boosting Decision Trees (GBDT), Random Forest (RF) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN), reveal that the SARes-NET model exhibits superior simulation performance, highlighting it's ability to capture intricate non-linear relationships and reduce human errors in data processing. This study establishes deep learning-guided E-A-U spatial evaluation as an innovative approach for national spatial planning, holding broader implications for national-level territorial assessments. The purpose of this study is to introduce a method to fill the gap in urban freight volume prediction in the Internet of Things by utilising deep learning for meeting smart logistics requirements in China. To meet this objective, researchers reviewed relevant literature to demonstrate that deep learning is appropriate for logistics use. Chinese urban transportation system has been selected as the study object with 9 years of data to examine the deep learning application in Chinese urban transportation in the IoT environment. Researchers introduce the deep learning method to predict urban road freight volume and design the prediction model architectures of two new DL algorithms. Model training and parameter adjustment are also tricky in the research of this article. It is necessary to understand the role of each parameter in the algorithm and flexibly use the relevant DL framework in Python to obtain an ideal model through multi-fold cross-validation and multiple trials. The final results show that the transportation freight volume prediction in the Internet of Things by utilising deep learning has excellent prediction effects to meet smart logistics requirements compared with traditional methods. Surface visibility (SV), a key indicator of atmospheric transparency, is used widely in the fields of environmental monitoring, transportation, and aviation. However, the sparse distribution and limited number of SV monitoring sites make it difficult to fulfill the urgent need for spatiotemporally seamless fine-scale monitoring. Here, we developed the operational real-time SV retrieval (RT-SVR) framework for China that incorporates information from multiple data sources, including Chinese Land Data Assimilation System meteorological data, in situ observations, and other ancillary data. Seamless hourly SV data with 6.25-km spatial resolution are available in real time via the operational RT-SVR model, which was built using a two-layer stacked ensemble approach that combines multiple machine learning algorithms and a deep learning module. Sample-based cross-validation of the RT-SVR model on approximately 41.3 million data pairs revealed strong robustness and high accuracy, with a Pearson correlation coefficient (R) value of 0.95 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 3.17 km. An additional hindcast-validation experiment, performed with continuous observations obtained over one year (approximately 20.8 million data pairs), demonstrated the powerful generalization capabilities of the RT-SVR model, albeit with slight degradation in performance (R = 0.85, RMSE = 5.28 km). The seamless hourly SV data with real-time update capability enable tracking of the generation, development, and dissipation of various low-SV events (e.g., fog, haze, and dust storms) in China. This study proposed a cutting-edge, multistep workflow and upgraded it by addressing its flaw of not considering how to determine the index system objectively. It then used the updated workflow to identify the probability of China's systemic financial crisis and analyzed the impact of macroeconomic indicators on the crisis. The final workflow comprises four steps: selecting rational indicators, modeling using supervised learning, decomposing the model's internal function, and conducting the non-linear, non-parametric statistical inference, with advantages of objective index selection, accurate prediction, and high model transparency. In addition, since China's international influence is progressively increasing, and the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has demonstrated that China is facing severe risk control challenges and stressed that the government should ensure that no systemic risks would emerge, this study selected China's systemic financial crisis as an example. Specifically, one global trade factor and 11 country-level macroeconomic indicators were selected to conduct the machine learning models. The prediction models captured six risk-rising periods in China's financial system from 1990 to 2020, which is consistent with reality. The interpretation techniques show the non-linearities of risk drivers, expressed as threshold and interval effects. Furthermore, Shapley regression validates the alignment of the indicators. The final workflow is suitable for categorical and regression analyses in several areas. These methods can also be used independently or in combination, depending on the research requirements. Researchers can switch to other suitable shallow machine learning models or deep neural networks for modeling. The results regarding crises could provide specific references for bank regulators and policymakers to develop critical measures to maintain macroeconomic and financial stability. Due to the complexity and volatility of stock market trading, there are still some issues in the existing prediction methods, including the processing of data noise, inexplicable selection of model parameters, and the lag in predicting price fluctuations. Aiming to better predict daily stock prices and fluctuations caused by high noise non-stationary data in actual trading, we propose a hybrid deep learning framework based on Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA), multiple feature selection, and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Based on Pearson correlation coefficients, we select features highly correlated with the closing price as inputs, and further achieve the noise reduction and optimization of those input sources by applying SSA to decompose the stock price time series into independent component signals. Using the stock price data from China and USA, we compared the prediction performance of our method with several well-known methods, and found that it achieved higher price prediction accuracy during periods of high stock volatility. For example, the R-squared and prediction accuracy of Shanghai Composite Index achieved 0.9998 and 99.01%, while the prediction metrics of S &P 500 reached 0.9883 and 94.26%, respectively. Climate policies can have a significant impact on the economy. However, these policies have often been associated with uncertainty. Quantitative assessment of the socioeconomic impact of climate policy uncertainty is equally or perhaps more important than looking at the policies themselves. Using a deep learning algorithm—the MacBERT model—this study constructed indices of Chinese climate policy uncertainty (CCPU) at the national, provincial and city levels for the first time. The CCPU indices are based on the text mining of news published by a set of major newspapers in China. A clear upward trend was found in the indices, demonstrating increasing policy uncertainties in China in addressing climate change. There is also evidence of clear regional heterogeneity in subnational indices. The CCPU dataset can provide a useful source of information for government actors, academics and investors in understanding the dynamics of climate policies in China. The Jiaozhou Bay ecosystem, a crucial marine ecosystem in China, has been plagued by frequent harmful algal blooms as due to deteriorating water quality and eutrophication. This study analyzed the temporal and spatial changes of harmful algal blooms in Jiaozhou Bay from 2000 to 2022 using the Floating Algae Index (FAI) calculated from MODIS (2000–2022) and Sentinel-2 (2015–2022) satellite image datasets. The calculation results of the image datasets were compared. The frequency of planktonic algal outbreaks was low and constant until 2017, but has increased annually since then. Algae blooms are most common in the summer and primarily concentrated along the bay's coast, middle, and mouth, with obvious seasonal and spatial distribution characteristics. Several factors influencing algal outbreaks were identified, including sea surface temperature, wind speed, air pressure, dissolved oxygen, nitrogen and phosphorus ratios, chemical oxygen demand, and petroleum pollutants. Algal bloom outbreaks in Jiaozhou Bay are expected to remain high in 2023. Earthquakes, as natural phenomena, have consistently caused damage and loss of human life throughout history. Earthquake prediction is an essential aspect of any society's plans and can increase public preparedness and reduce damage to a great extent. Despite advances in computing systems and deep learning methods, no substantial achievements have been made in earthquake prediction. One of the most important reasons is that the earthquake's nonlinear and chaotic behavior makes it hard to train the deep learning method. To tackle this drawback, this study tries to take an effective step in improving the performance of prediction results by employing a novel method in earthquake prediction. This method employs a deep learning model based on convolutional neural networks (CNN), bi-directional long short-term memory (BiLSTM), and an attention mechanism, as well as a zero-order hold (ZOH) pre-processing methodology. This study aims to predict the maximum magnitude and number of earthquakes in the next month with the least error. The proposed method was evaluated by an earthquake dataset from nine distinct regions of China. Duct-dependent congenital heart diseases (CHDs) are a serious form of CHD with a low detection rate, especially in underdeveloped countries and areas. Although existing studies have developed models for fetal heart structure identification, there is a lack of comprehensive evaluation of the long axis of the aorta. In this study, a total of 6698 images and 48 videos are collected to develop and test a two-stage deep transfer learning model named DDCHD-DenseNet for screening critical duct-dependent CHDs. The model achieves a sensitivity of 0.973, 0.843, 0.769, and 0.759, and a specificity of 0.985, 0.967, 0.956, and 0.759, respectively, on the four multicenter test sets. It is expected to be employed as a potential automatic screening tool for hierarchical care and computer-aided diagnosis. Lung cancer screening using computed tomography (CT) has increased the detection rate of small pulmonary nodules and early-stage lung adenocarcinoma. It would be clinically meaningful to accurate assessment of the nodule histology by CT scans with advanced deep learning algorithms. However, recent studies mainly focus on predicting benign and malignant nodules, lacking of model for the risk stratification of invasive adenocarcinoma. We propose an ensemble multi-view 3D convolutional neural network (EMV-3D-CNN) model to study the risk stratification of lung adenocarcinoma. We include 1075 lung nodules (≤30 mm and ≥4 mm) with preoperative thin-section CT scans and definite pathology confirmed by surgery. Our model achieves a state-of-art performance of 91.3% and 92.9% AUC for diagnosis of benign/malignant and pre-invasive/invasive nodules, respectively. Importantly, our model outperforms senior doctors in risk stratification of invasive adenocarcinoma with 77.6% accuracy [i.e., Grades 1, 2, 3]). It provides detailed predictive histological information for the surgical management of pulmonary nodules. Atmospheric chemistry transport models have been extensively applied in aerosol forecasts over recent decades, whereas they are facing challenges from uncertainties in emission rates, meteorological data, and over-simplified chemical parameterizations. Here, we developed a spatial-temporal deep learning framework, named PPN (Pollution-Predicting Net for PM2.5), to accurately and efficiently predict regional PM2.5 concentrations. It has an encoder-decoder architecture and combines the preceding PM2.5 observations and numerical weather prediction. Besides, the model proposes a weighted loss function to promote the forecasting performance in extreme events. We applied the proposed model to forecast 3-day PM2.5 concentrations over the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region in China on a three-hour-by-three-hour basis. Overall, the model showed good performance with R2 and RMSE values of 0.7 and 17.7 μg m−3, respectively. It could capture the high PM2.5 concentration in the south and relatively low concentration in the north and exhibit better performance within the next 24 h. The use of the weighted loss function decreased the level of "high values underestimation, low values overestimation", while incorporating the preceding PM2.5 observations into the encoder phase improved the predictive accuracy within 24 h. We also compared the model result with that from a state-of-the-art numerical model (WRF-Chem with pollutant data assimilation). The temporal R2 and RMSE from the WRF-Chem were 0.30−0.77 and 19−45 μg m−3 while those from the PPN model were 0.42−0.84 and 15−42 μg m−3. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is prevalent and a leading cause of in-hospital death worldwide. Early prediction of AKI-related clinical events and timely intervention for high-risk patients could improve outcomes. We develop a deep learning model based on a nationwide multicenter cooperative network across China that includes 7,084,339 hospitalized patients, to dynamically predict the risk of in-hospital death (primary outcome) and dialysis (secondary outcome) for patients who developed AKI during hospitalization. A total of 137,084 eligible patients with AKI constitute the analysis set. In the derivation cohort, the area under the receiver operator curve (AUROC) for 24-h, 48-h, 72-h, and 7-day death are 95·05%, 94·23%, 93·53%, and 93·09%, respectively. For dialysis outcome, the AUROC of each time span are 88·32%, 83·31%, 83·20%, and 77·99%, respectively. The predictive performance is consistent in both internal and external validation cohorts. The model can predict important outcomes of patients with AKI, which could be helpful for the early management of AKI. Early prediction of AKI-related clinical events and timely intervention for high-risk patients could improve outcomes. The assessment of bone age is important for evaluating child development, optimizing the treatment for endocrine diseases, etc. And the well-known Tanner-Whitehouse (TW) clinical method improves the quantitative description of skeletal development based on setting up a series of distinguishable stages for each bone individually. However, the assessment is affected by rater variability, which makes the assessment result not reliable enough in clinical practice. The main goal of this work is to achieve a reliable and accurate skeletal maturity determination by proposing an automated bone age assessment method called PEARLS, which is based on the TW3-RUS system (analysis of the radius, ulna, phalanges, and metacarpal bones). The proposed method comprises the point estimation of anchor (PEA) module for accurately localizing specific bones, the ranking learning (RL) module for producing a continuous stage representation of each bone by encoding the ordinal relationship between stage labels into the learning process, and the scoring (S) module for outputting the bone age directly based on two standard transform curves. The development of each module in PEARLS is based on different datasets. Finally, corresponding results are presented to evaluate the system performance in localizing specific bones, determining the skeletal maturity stage, and assessing the bone age. The mean average precision of point estimation is 86.29%, the average stage determination precision is 97.33% overall bones, and the average bone age assessment accuracy is 96.8% within 1 year for the female and male cohorts. Novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has rapidly spread throughout the world; however, it is difficult for clinicians to make early diagnoses. This study is to evaluate the feasibility of using deep learning (DL) models to identify asymptomatic COVID-19 patients based on chest CT images. In this retrospective study, six DL models (Xception, NASNet, ResNet, EfficientNet, ViT, and Swin), based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) or transformer architectures, were trained to identify asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 on chest CT images. Data from Yangzhou were randomly split into a training set (n = 2140) and an internal-validation set (n = 360). Data from Suzhou was the external-test set (n = 200). Model performance was assessed by the metrics accuracy, recall, and specificity and was compared with the assessments of two radiologists. A total of 2700 chest CT images were collected in this study. In the validation dataset, the Swin model achieved the highest accuracy of 0.994, followed by the EfficientNet model (0.954). The recall and the precision of the Swin model were 0.989 and 1.000, respectively. In the test dataset, the Swin model was still the best and achieved the highest accuracy (0.980). All the DL models performed remarkably better than the two experts. Last, the time on the test set diagnosis spent by two experts—42 min, 17 s (junior); and 29 min, 43 s (senior)—was significantly higher than those of the DL models (all below 2 min). This study evaluated the feasibility of multiple DL models in distinguishing asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 from healthy subjects on chest CT images. A COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has been declared a global pandemic by WHO. It first appeared in China at the end of 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world. During the third layer, it became more critical. COVID-19 spread is extremely difficult to control, and a huge number of suspected cases must be screened for a cure as soon as possible. COVID-19 laboratory testing takes time and can result in significant false negatives. To combat COVID-19, reliable, accurate and fast methods are urgently needed. The commonly used Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction has a low sensitivity of approximately 60% to 70%, and sometimes even produces negative results. Computer Tomography (CT) has been observed to be a subtle approach to detecting COVID-19, and it may be the best screening method. The scanned image's quality, which is impacted by motion-induced Poisson or Impulse noise, is vital. In order to improve the quality of the acquired image for post segmentation, a novel Impulse and Poisson noise reduction method employing boundary division max/min intensities elimination along with an adaptive window size mechanism is proposed. In the second phase, a number of CNN techniques are explored for detecting COVID-19 from CT images and an Assessment Fusion Based model is proposed to predict the result. The AFM combines the results for cutting-edge CNN architectures and generates a final prediction based on choices. According to previous studies, traditional laboratory safety courses are delivered in a classroom setting where the instructor teaches and the students listen and read the course materials passively. The course content is also uninspiring and dull. Additionally, the teaching period is spread out, which adds to the instructor's workload. As a result, students become less motivated to learn. In contrast, artificially intelligent educational robots (AIERs), help students learn while lessening the workload on instructors by enhancing teaching strategies, using robots to substitute for teachers, giving students access to a variety of instructional content, and improving interaction with students through the use of intelligent voice interactions and Q&A systems to promote student engagement in learning. If the robot is used for a long time for learning, it may lead to a decrease in students' interest in learning. Therefore, this study introduces the GAFCC model (the theory-driven gamification goal, access, feedback, challenge, collaboration design model) as an instructional design model to guide the development of a gamified AIER system, aiming to improve students' motivation and learning effectiveness for laboratory safety courses. To test the effectiveness of the system, this study conducted an experimental study at a university in China in the summer of 2022. 53 participants participated in the research, with a random sample taken from each group. Each participant was able to choose the time of their free time to engage in the experiment. There were 18, 19, and 16 participants in experimental group 1, experimental group 2, and the traditional group, respectively. Students in experimental group 1 learned using the gamified AIER system, students in experimental group 2 learned on a general anthropomorphic robot system and the control group received traditional classroom learning. The experimental results showed that compared to the other two groups, the gamified AIER system guided by the GAFCC model significantly improved students' learning achievement and enhanced their learning motivation, flow experience, and problem-solving tendency. In the fault diagnosis of rotating machinery, vibration signal or spectrum is usually used. As a data-driven method, deep learning has been introduced into the field of fault diagnosis. But it often confronts with two critical difficulties: few fault cases and single data source. To this end, we employ the prototype network to solve the problem of few fault cases, and use the two-branch technique to combine data sources in time domain and frequency domain. We introduce the two-branch network structure into the framework of the prototype network and develop a two-branch prototype network (TBPN) for fault diagnosis. The TBPN model is constructed through three main steps. First, we extract information from vibration signals in time domain and frequency domain respectively, and feed them into the model as two branches. Second, the prototype representation of each fault in time domain and frequency domain can be learned through metric learners, and the distances between fault prototypes and query faults features are then calculated. Third, the distances in time domain and frequency domain are integrated and incorporated into the softmax function for multi-classification. The performance of TBNP is verified by a real-world application on fault diagnosis of rotating machinery with the case data accumulated by an industrial Internet enterprise in China. The results show that the TBPN model is suitable for fault diagnosis in the case of small data. Lung cancer manifests as pulmonary nodules in the early stage. Thus, the early and accurate detection of these nodules is crucial for improving the survival rate of patients. We propose a novel two-stage model for lung nodule detection. In the candidate nodule detection stage, a deep learning model based on 3D context information roughly segments the nodules detects the preprocessed image and obtain candidate nodules. In this model, 3D image blocks are input into the constructed model, and it learns the contextual information between the various slices in the 3D image block. The parameters of our model are equivalent to those of a 2D convolutional neural network (CNN), but the model could effectively learn the 3D context information of the nodules. In the false-positive reduction stage, we propose a multi-scale shared convolutional structure model. Our lung detection model has no significant increase in parameters and computation in both stages of multi-scale and multi-view detection. The proposed model was evaluated by using 888 computed tomography (CT) scans from the LIDC-IDRI dataset and achieved a competition performance metric (CPM) score of 0.957. The average detection sensitivity per scan was 0.971/1.0 FP. Furthermore, an average detection sensitivity of 0.933/1.0 FP per scan was achieved based on data from Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital. Our model exhibited a higher detection sensitivity, a lower false-positive rate, and better generalization than current lung nodule detection methods. Sub-seasonal high temperature forecasting is significant for early warning of extreme heat weather. Currently, deep learning methods, especially Transformer, have been successfully applied to the meteorological field. Relying on the excellent global feature extraction capability in natural language processing, Transformer may be useful to improve the ability in extended periods. To explore this, we introduce the Transformer and propose a Transformer-based model, called Transformer to High Temperature (T2T). In the details of the model, we successively discuss the use of the Transformer and the position encoding in T2T to continuously optimize the model structure experimentally. In the dataset, the multi-version data fusion method is proposed to further improve the prediction of the model with the reasonable expansion of the dataset. The performance of the well- designed model (T2T) is verified against the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) at each grid of the 100.5°E to 138°E, 21°N to 54°N domain for the April to October of 2016–2019. For the case study initiated from 2 June 2018, the results indicated that T2T is significantly better than ECMWF and MLP, with smaller absolute error and more reliable probabilistic forecast for the extreme high event that happened during the third week. Overall, the deterministic forecast of T2T is superior to MLP and ECMWF due to the ability of utilizing spatial information of grids. T2T also provided a better-calibrated probability of high temperature and a sharper prediction probability density function than MLP and ECMWF. All in all, T2T can meet the operational requirements for extended period forecasting of extreme high temperature. Maojian is one of China's traditional famous teas. There are many Maojian-producing areas in China. Because of different producing areas and production processes, different Maojian have different market prices. Many merchants will mix Maojian in different regions for profit, seriously disrupting the healthy tea market. Due to the similar appearance of Maojian produced in different regions, it is impossible to make a quick and objective distinction. It often requires experienced experts to identify them through multiple steps. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop a rapid and accurate method to identify different regions of Maojian to promote the standardization of the Maojian market and the development of detection technology. In this study, we propose a new method based on Near infra-red (NIR) with deep learning algorithms to distinguish different origins of Maojian. In this experiment, the NIR spectral data of Maojian from different origins are combined with the back propagation neural network (BPNN), improved AlexNet, and improved RepSet models for classification. Among them, improved RepSet has the highest accuracy of 99.30%, which is 8.67% and 0.70% higher than BPNN and improved AlexNet, respectively. The overall results show that it is feasible to use NIR and deep learning methods to quickly and accurately identify Maojian from different origins and prove an effective alternative method to discriminate different origins of Maojian. Housing quality is essential to human well-being, security and health. Monitoring the housing quality is crucial for unveiling the socioeconomic development status and providing political proposals. However, depicting the nationwide housing quality in large-scale and fine detail is exceedingly rare in remote rural areas owing to the high cost of canonical survey methods. Taking rural China as an example, we collect massive rural house images for housing quality assessment by various volunteers and further build up a deep learning model based on the assessed images to realize an automatic prediction for huge raw house images. As a result, the model performance achieves a high R2 of 0.76. Afterward, the housing qualities of 10,000 Chinese villages are estimated based on 50,000 unlabeled geo-images, and an apparent spatial heterogeneity is discovered. Specifically, divided by Qinling Mountains-Huaihe River Line, housing quality in southern China is much better than in northern China. Our method provides high-resolution predictions of housing quality across the extensive rural area, which could be a complementary tool for automatical monitoring of housing change and supporting house-related policymaking. With the increase of the ageing in the world's population, the ageing and degeneration studies of physiological characteristics in human skin, bones, and muscles become important topics. Research on the ageing of bones, especially the skull, are paid much attention in recent years. In this study, a novel deep learning method representing the ageing-related dynamic attention (ARDA) is proposed. The proposed method can quantitatively display the ageing salience of the bones and their change patterns with age on lateral cephalometric radiographs images (LCR) images containing the craniofacial and cervical spine. An age estimation-based deep learning model based on 14142 LCR images from 4 to 40 years old individuals is trained to extract ageing-related features, and based on these features the ageing salience maps are generated by the Grad-CAM method. All ageing salience maps with the same age are merged as an ARDA map corresponding to that age. Ageing salience maps show that ARDA is mainly concentrated in three regions in LCR images: the teeth, craniofacial, and cervical spine regions. Furthermore, the dynamic distribution of ARDA at different ages and instances in LCR images is quantitatively analyzed. Lightning disaster causes a huge threat to human lives and industrial facilities. Data-driven lightning forecasting plays an effective role in alleviating such disaster losses. The forecasting process usually faces multi-source meteorological data characterized by spatiotemporal structure. However, established data-driven forecasting methods are mostly built on classic convolutional and recurrent neural blocks which processes one local neighborhood at a time, failing to capture long-range spatiotemporal dependencies within data. To address this issue, we propose a dual-source lightning forecasting network with bi-direction spatiotemporal transformation, referred to as LightNet + . The core of LightNet + is a novel module, namely bi-directional spatiotemporal propagator, which aims to model long-range connections among different spatiotemporal locations, going beyond the constraints of the receptive field of a local neighborhood. Moreover, a spatiotemporal encoder is introduced to extract historical trend information from recent observation data. Finally, all the obtained features are organically fused via a non-local spatiotemporal decoder, which then produces final forecasting results. We evaluate LightNet + on a real-world lightning dataset from North China and compare it with several state-of-the-art data-driven lightning forecasting methods. Background: Studies on deep learning (DL)-based models in breast ultrasound (US) remain at the early stage due to a lack of large datasets for training and independent test sets for verification. We aimed to develop a DL model for differentiating benign from malignant breast lesions on US using a large multicenter dataset and explore the model's ability to assist the radiologists. Methods: A total of 14,043 US images from 5012 women were prospectively collected from 32 hospitals. To develop the DL model, the patients from 30 hospitals were randomly divided into a training cohort (n = 4149) and an internal test cohort (n = 466). The remaining 2 hospitals (n = 397) were used as the external test cohorts (ETC). We compared the model with the prospective Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System assessment and five radiologists. We also explored the model's ability to assist the radiologists using two different methods. Results: The model demonstrated excellent diagnostic performance with the ETC, with a high area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC, 0.913), sensitivity (88.84%), specificity (83.77%), and accuracy (86.40%). In the comparison set, the AUC was similar to that of the expert (p = 0.5629) and one experienced radiologist (p = 0.2112) and significantly higher than that of three inexperienced radiologists (p < 0.01). After model assistance, the accuracies and specificities of the radiologists were substantially improved without loss in sensitivities. Conclusions: The DL model yielded satisfactory predictions in distinguishing benign from malignant breast lesions. The losses and damage caused by landslide are countless in the world every year. However, the existing approaches of landslide susceptibility mapping cannot fully meet the requirement of landslide prevention, and further excavation and innovation are also needed. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to develop a novel deep learning model namely landslide net (LSNet) to assess the landslide susceptibility in Hanyin County, China, meanwhile, support vector machine model (SVM) and kernel logistic regression model (KLR) were employed as reference model. The inventory map was generated based on 259 landslides, the training dataset and validation dataset were, respectively, prepared using 70% landslides and the remaining 30% landslides. The variance inflation factor (VIF) was applied to optimize each landslide predisposing factor. Three benchmark indices were used to evaluate the result of susceptibility mapping and area under receiver operating characteristics curve (AUROC) was used to compare the models. Result demonstrated that although the processing speed of LSNet model is the slowest, it still significantly outperformed its corresponding benchmark models with validation dataset, and has the highest accuracy (0.950), precision (0.951), F1 (0.951) and AUROC (0.941), which reflected excellent predictive ability in some degree. Integrated, timely data about pavement structures, materials and performance information are crucial for the continuous improvement and optimization of pavement design by the engineering research community. However, at present, pavement structures, materials and performance information in China are relatively isolated and cannot be integrated and managed. This results in a waste of a large amount of effective information. One of the significant development trends of pavement engineering is to collect, analyze, and manage the knowledge assets of pavement information to realize intelligent decision-making. To address these challenges, a knowledge graph (KG) is adopted, which is a novel and effective knowledge management technology and provides an ideal technical method to realize the integration of information in pavement engineering. First, a neural network model is used based on the principle of deep learning to obtain knowledge. On this basis, the relationship between knowledge is built from siloed databases, data in textual format and networks, and the knowledge base. Second, KG-Pavement is presented, which is a flexible framework that can integrate and ingest heterogeneous pavement engineering data to generate knowledge graphs. Furthermore, the index and unique constraints on attributes for knowledge entities are proposed in KG-Pavement, which can improve the efficiency of internal retrieval in the system. Finally, a pavement information search engine based on a knowledge graph is constructed to realize information interaction and target information matching between a webpage server and graph database. This is the first successful application of knowledge graphs in pavement engineering. Online ride-hailing order forecasting is a very important part of the intelligent traffic dispatch system. Accurate order forecasting can reduce the flow of invalid vehicles and improve the user experience of online ride-hailing. We propose a multi-view deep long short-term memory (LSTM) network architecture (MultiView deep LSTM framework), which uses convolutional neural network and graph convolutional network to extract the temporal and spatial characteristics of online ride-hailing orders, obtains the correlation information between regional orders through the order view, regional speed view, and weather factor view, and then uses LSTM unit and attention unit to predict the order volume in real time. We use Didi Haikou, China's online ride-hailing dataset for training, compare it with the prediction algorithms of other articles, and experiment with different choices of the contrast framework. The experimental results show that our deep learning framework can effectively capture comprehensive spatio-temporal correlation and obtain better results. The model maintained good performance at 15 min, 30 min, and 1 h. Experiments conducted on the actual demand data onto ride-hailing from Didi Haikou data prove that our method is better than the latest method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The early detection and accurate histopathological diagnosis of gastric cancer increase the chances of successful treatment. The worldwide shortage of pathologists offers a unique opportunity for the use of artificial intelligence assistance systems to alleviate the workload and increase diagnostic accuracy. Here, we report a clinically applicable system developed at the Chinese PLA General Hospital, China, using a deep convolutional neural network trained with 2,123 pixel-level annotated H&E-stained whole slide images. The model achieves a sensitivity near 100% and an average specificity of 80.6% on a real-world test dataset with 3,212 whole slide images digitalized by three scanners. We show that the system could aid pathologists in improving diagnostic accuracy and preventing misdiagnoses. Moreover, we demonstrate that our system performs robustly with 1,582 whole slide images from two other medical centres. Our study suggests the feasibility and benefits of using histopathological artificial intelligence assistance systems in routine practice scenarios.
