Purpose: Low-grade glioma (LGG) exhibits longer median survival than high-grade brain tumors, and thus impact of our therapies on patient quality of life remains a crucial consideration. This study evaluated the effects of concurrent temozolomide-based chemoradiation (RT + TMZ) or observation on quality of life (QOL) in patients with low-grade glioma. Methods: We completed a retrospective cross-sectional study of adults with LGG who underwent surgery with known molecular classification from 1980 to 2018. Postoperatively, patients were either observed or received adjuvant concurrent temozolomide-based chemoradiation. EQ-5D and PHQ-9 depression screen were completed before outpatient visits every 2–3 months. Baseline score was defined as ± 30 days within initial operation. Results: Of the 63 patients (mean age 44 ± 17 years, 51% female) with baseline EQ-5D or PHQ-9 depression screen data and at least one follow-up measure, 30 (48%) were observed and 33 (52%) received RT + TMZ. No significant decline was seen in EQ-5D or PHQ-9 scores at 3, 6, 9, 12, and 24 months compared to baseline scores for all patients. At each time point, there was no significant difference between those who were observed or received adjuvant therapy. The linear mixed model estimating PHQ-9 value or EQ-5D index demonstrated that there was no significant difference in PHQ-9 or EQ-5D index between treatment groups (p = 0.42 and p = 0.54, respectively) or time points (p = 0.24 and p = 0.99, respectively). Conclusion: Our study found no significant decline in patient QOL or depression scores as assessed by patient- reported outcome measures for patients with low-grade glioma up to 2 years following surgery. We found no difference between RT + TMZ compared to observation during this time frame. Additional follow-up can help identify the longer-term impact of treatment strategy on patient experience. Background: Information concerning the health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) consequences of colposcopy is limited, particularly over time. In a longitudinal study, we investigated women's HRQoL at 4, 8 and 12 months post colposcopy and the factors associated with this. Methods: Women attending colposcopy at two large hospitals affiliated with the national screening programme in Ireland were invited to complete questionnaires at 4, 8 and 12 months post colposcopy. HRQoL was measured using the EQ-5D-3L and compared across a range of socio-demographic, clinical and attitudinal variables. A mixed-effects logistic multivariable model was employed to investigate associations between these variables and low HRQoL. Results: Of 584 women initially recruited, 429, 343 and 303 completed questionnaires at 4, 8 and 12 months, respectively. The mean overall HRQoL score for the sample across all time points was 0.90 (SD 0.16). Approximately 18% of women experienced low HRQoL at each of the three time points. In multivariable testing, over the entire 12-month follow-up period, non-Irish nationals (OR 8.99, 95% CI 2.35–34.43) and women with high-grade referral cytology (OR 2.78, 95% CI 1.08–7.13) were at higher odds of low HRQoL. Women who were past (OR 0.20, 95% CI 0.07–0.58) or never (OR 0.42, 95% CI 0.16–1.12) smokers were at lower odds of low HRQoL than current smokers. As women's satisfaction with their healthcare increased their odds of experiencing low HRQoL fell (OR per unit increase 0.51, 95% CI 0.34–0.75). Conclusions: Women's HRQoL did not change over the 12 months post colposcopy, but some subgroups of women were at higher risk of experiencing low HRQoL. Background: With headache experienced by up to 75% of adults worldwide in the last year, primary headache disorders constitute a major public health problem, yet they remain under-diagnosed and under-treated. Headache prevalence and burden is changing as society evolves, with headache now occurring earlier in life. Contributing factors, mostly associated with changing life style, such as stress, bad posture, physical inactivity, sleep disturbance, poor diet and excess use of digital technology may be associated with the phenomenon that could be labelled as '21st century headache'. This is especially notable in workplace and learning environments where headache impacts mental clarity and therefore cognitive performance. The headache-related impact on productivity and absenteeism negatively influences an individual's behaviour and quality of life, and is also associated with a high economic cost. Since the majority of sufferers opt to self-treat rather than seek medical advice, substantial knowledge on headache prevalence, causation and burden is unknown globally. Mapping the entire population of headache sufferers can close this knowledge gap, leading to better headache management. The broad use of digital technology to gather real world data on headache triggers, burden and management strategies, in self-treated population will allow these sufferers to access appropriate support and medication, and therefore improve quality of life. Conclusion: These data can yield important insights into a substantial global healthcare issue and form the basis for improved patient awareness, professional education, clinical study design and drug development. Purpose: A quality of life assessment is useful in identifying a specific health impact on patients who are suffering from various medical conditions. This study estimated the quality of life among patients with cancers of the lungs, breast, colorectum, oesophagus, liver, and stomach in urban China and evaluates the associated factors. Methods: This study employed a random cluster sampling strategy to recruit patients with lung, breast, colorectal, oesophageal, liver, or stomach cancer from eleven third-grade class-A (the highest level) hospitals in Beijing between October 2013 and May 2014. We performed a quality of life survey that included solicitation of sociodemographic and clinical information and the use of a EuroQoL five-dimension three-level questionnaire. We applied the Chinese time trade-off method to calculate the health utility values, which were transformed into binary variables (using the median as the cut-off). In addition, multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to examine the factors associated with the quality of life. Results: A total of 637 patients (91 with lung cancer, 152 with breast cancer, 60 with colorectal cancer, 108 with oesophageal cancer, 154 with liver cancer, and 72 with stomach cancer) were included in this study; the medians of the health utility values were 0.780, 0.800, 0.800, 0.860, 0.800, and 0.870, respectively. The most common concerns for patients of all six cancer types were pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression. The reported health status of patients was associated with various demographic and clinical variables. Conclusion: This study highlighted that pain relief and psychological support are important aspects of patient management for those with these types of cancer. Background: A high percentage of menopausal and perimenopausal women suffer symptoms that deteriorate their quality of life (QoL) significantly. Many studies have focused on the relationship between perimenopausal symptoms and QoL, yet the results obtained have been inconclusive. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationships among the symptoms of menopause, sociodemographic variables, knowledge of menopause and QoL.Method: Sociodemographic and clinical data was collected from interviews of 453 women in Madrid, and they also completed questionnaires related to perimenopausal symptomatology (MRS, MENQOL), knowledge of menopause and QoL.Results: Although dependent on the assessment techniques, all the tools used indicated that more than half of the women studied suffered perimenopausal symptomatology: interview (59.1%), MENQOL (69.2%) and MRS (65.1%). Stronger symptoms were related to a worse QoL (R2 = 0.287 for MENQOL; R2 = 0.390 for MRS), being psychosocial/psychological and urogenital/sexual symptomatology, and educational level and knowledge about menopause the most strongly related to this parameter. Taking into account the main perimenopausal symptoms in Europe, psychosocial and sexual symptoms are also found to be strongly related to QoL.Conclusion: Perimenopausal symptomatology is frequent and intense, deteriorating women's QoL. While psychosocial and somatic/physical symptoms are the most frequent and intense, psychosocial/psychological and urogenital/sexual are those that best predict the individual's QoL. Purpose: Longitudinal studies in laryngeal cancer can provide clinicians information about short-term and long-term functional outcomes, like quality of life (QoL) and voice outcome. This information is important when counseling patients or choosing a primary treatment modality. The present study assessed long-term (2 years) QoL and voice outcome in patients with extended T1 and limited T2 glottic carcinoma treated with transoral CO2 laser microsurgery (TLM) (unilateral type III or bilateral type II resections). Methods: Three questionnaires were administered: the Voice Handicap Index (VHI), the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) QoL questionnaire (QLQ)-C30, the EORTC QLQ-HN35. A perceptual voice evaluation at six different time points was conducted: preoperatively, and postoperatively at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years. Fluctuations over time were investigated. Results: Sixty-one patients were included in the analysis. Patients reported high-level functioning and low symptom scores 2 years postoperatively. Gender significantly affected the VHI scores at 2 years (mean VHI scores: female 8.7 vs. male, 23.9; p = 0.023). The major improvement in VHI scores was observed within the first 6 months. The tumor stage (T1a, T1b, and T2) significantly impacted the grade (mean scores at 2 years: 1.0, 1.9, and 1.7; p = 0.001). These scores stabilized at 6 months. Conclusions: Patients show good long-term QoL with low symptom scores, a low voice handicap, and mild to moderate dysphonia, 2 years postoperatively. Purpose: Cost-effectiveness analyses (CEAs) of screening can be highly sensitive to the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) effects of screen tests and subsequent treatment. Accordingly, accurate assessment of HRQoL is essential. We reviewed the literature regarding HRQoL in cervical prevention and management in order to appraise the current evidence regarding this important input to CEA.Methods: We searched the MEDLINE, Scopus and EconLit databases for studies that estimated HRQoL in cervical cancer prevention and management published January 1995-December 2015. The primary inclusion criterion was for studies that assess HRQoL using the EQ-5D. Data were abstracted from eligible studies on setting, elicitation group, sample size, elicitation instruments, health state valuations, study design and follow-up. We assessed the quality and comparability of the studies with a particular focus on the HRQoL reported across states and groups.Results: Fifteen papers met the inclusion criteria. Most used patient elicitation groups (n = 11), 2 used the general public and 2 used a mix of both. Eight studies were cross-sectional and seven were longitudinal. Six studies used both the EQ-5D-3L and the EQ-VAS together with other measures of overall HRQoL or condition-specific instruments. Extensive heterogeneity was observed across study characteristics.Conclusions: Our results reveal the challenges of sourcing reliable estimates of HRQoL for use in CEAs of cervical cancer prevention and treatment. The EQ-5D appears insufficiently sensitive for some health states. A more general problem is the paucity of HRQoL estimates for many health states and their change over time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There are few high-quality instruments to evaluate the participation and social functioning of fibromyalgia patients. The Fibromyalgia Participation Questionnaire (FPQ) is a questionnaire that evaluates these aspects with high reliability and validity in its German original version. The aim of this work was to describe the translation and cross-cultural adaptation process of the FPQ into Spanish and its validation to ensure the equivalence against the original version. The questionnaire will be translated according to the FACIT methodology, and it will be tested in the Clinical Management Unit of North Almeria Health Area. This methodology includes several stages: double forward translation, reconciled version, back-translation, review of the previous versions and development of the prefinal version for the pretest. Once the pretest ends, the final version of the questionnaire will be developed, which will be subjected to a validation process to study its psychometric properties. Reliability will be studied by internal consistency and test-retest reliability through Cronbach's alpha and Pearson's correlation coefficient, respectively. External and construct validity will be analysed using correlation coefficients, content validity with an empirical analysis, and a differential item functioning analysis will be employed to measure discriminative validity. The presence of ceiling and floor effects will be calculated too. The validation of the FPQ into different languages will allow better evaluation and treatment based on the observed limitations fibromyalgia patients suffer from, as well as bringing the possibility to compare between other countries and generalize its use in the scientific community. α1-Adrenoceptor antagonists such as alfuzosin, doxazosin, tamsulosin and terazosin are first-line agents for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms suggestive of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), but are only second-line agents (doxazosin and terazosin only) for the treatment of arterial hypertension. Sexual function is complex and includes multiple domains such as sexual desire (libido), erectile function and ejaculatory function. Erectile and ejaculatory functions are frequently reduced in patients with BPH and can impact on their quality of life. Therefore, the treatment of BPH should aim to maintain or even restore sexual function.α1-Adrenoceptor antagonists lack major effects on sexual desire in placebo-controlled studies. Reports on erectile function are inconsistent, with both beneficial and adverse effects being reported, but impotence can occur in some patients without clear differences between drugs. Ejaculatory dysfunction during treatment may represent (relative) anejaculation. It occurs more frequently with tamsulosin than with other drugs of this class, but the differences are not big enough to be consistently detectable in directly comparative studies. We propose that such differences between drugs should be weighed against differences in cardiovascular tolerability when choosing the optimal treatment for each patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
