Introduction: Non-invasive detection of pathological changes in thoracic aortic disease remains an unmet clinical need particularly for patients with congenital heart disease. Positron emission tomography combined with magnetic resonance imaging (PET-MRI) could provide a valuable low-radiation method of aortic surveillance in high-risk groups. Quantification of aortic microcalcification activity using sodium [18F]fluoride holds promise in the assessment of thoracic aortopathies. We sought to evaluate aortic sodium [18F]fluoride uptake in PET-MRI using three methods of attenuation correction compared to positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET-CT) in patients with bicuspid aortic valve, Methods: Thirty asymptomatic patients under surveillance for bicuspid aortic valve disease underwent sodium [18F]fluoride PET-CT and PET-MRI of the ascending thoracic aorta during a single visit. PET-MRI data were reconstructed using three iterations of attenuation correction (Dixon, radial gradient recalled echo with two [RadialVIBE-2] or four [RadialVIBE-4] tissue segmentation). Images were qualitatively and quantitatively analysed for aortic sodium [18F]fluoride uptake on PET-CT and PET-MRI. Results: Aortic sodium [18F]fluoride uptake on PET-MRI was visually comparable with PET-CT using each reconstruction and total aortic standardised uptake values on PET-CT strongly correlated with each PET-MRI attenuation correction method (Dixon R = 0.70; RadialVIBE-2 R = 0.63; RadialVIBE-4 R = 0.64; p < 0.001 for all). Breathing related artefact between soft tissue and lung were detected using Dixon and RadialVIBE-4 but not RadialVIBE-2 reconstructions, with the presence of this artefact adjacent to the atria leading to variations in blood pool activity estimates. Consequently, quantitative agreements between radiotracer activity on PET-CT and PET-MRI were most consistent with RadialVIBE-2. Conclusion: Ascending aortic microcalcification analysis in PET-MRI is feasible with comparable findings to PET-CT. RadialVIBE-2 tissue attenuation correction correlates best with the reference standard of PET-CT and is less susceptible to artefact. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) in newborns and infants is a complex condition associated with several pulmonary, cardiac, and systemic diseases contributing to morbidity and mortality. Thus, accurate and early detection of PH and the classification of its severity is crucial for appropriate and successful management. Using echocardiography, the primary diagnostic tool in pediatrics, human assessment is both time-consuming and expertise-demanding, raising the need for an automated approach. Little effort has been directed towards automatic assessment of PH using echocardiography, and the few proposed methods only focus on binary PH classification on the adult population. In this work, we present an explainable multi-view video-based deep learning approach to predict and classify the severity of PH for a cohort of 270 newborns using echocardiograms. We use spatio-temporal convolutional architectures for the prediction of PH from each view, and aggregate the predictions of the different views using majority voting. Our results show a mean F1-score of 0.84 for severity prediction and 0.92 for binary detection using 10-fold cross-validation and 0.63 for severity prediction and 0.78 for binary detection on the held-out test set. We complement our predictions with saliency maps and show that the learned model focuses on clinically relevant cardiac structures, motivating its usage in clinical practice. Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is an autosomal recessive autoinflammatory disease characterized by recurring serosal inflammation. Cardiac involvement in FMF commonly manifests as pericarditis and pericardial effusion; however, there is limited research on myocardial function. This study aimed to assess cardiac functions during active inflammation and remission periods of FMF patients and investigate the cardiac effects of inflammation during the attack period. Thirty-eight FMF patients without additional cardiac diseases were included in the study. Demographic characteristics, clinical symptoms, family history, and MEFV gene analysis results were obtained retrospectively. Blood tests, blood pressure measurements, electrocardiogram evaluations, conventional echocardiography, and speckle tracking echocardiography were performed during the attack and remission periods. Disease severity was assessed using the Pras scoring system. During the attack period, FMF patients exhibited significantly higher leukocyte count, neutrophil count, C-reactive protein, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate compared to the remission period (p < 0.005). Speckle tracking echocardiography revealed decreased function in the inferior segments of the left ventricle during the attack period (p < 0.005). Right ventricular function was more affected in the moderate disease group. FMF patients with lymphopenia during the attack demonstrated more impaired right ventricular function compared to those with normal lymphocyte count. Conclusions: FMF patients experience cardiac abnormalities during active inflammation, highlighting the importance of monitoring cardiac functions in these patients. Speckle tracking echocardiography can provide valuable insights into cardiac involvement in FMF. These findings emphasize the cardiac impact of FMF inflammation and the significance of long-term cardiac function monitoring in the management of FMF patients. Evaluating fluid responsiveness with dynamic parameters is recommended for fluid management. However, in hemodynamically stable patients who are breathing spontaneously, accurately measuring stroke volume variation via echocardiography and passive leg raising is challenging due to subtle SV changes. This study aimed to identify normal SV changes in healthy volunteers and evaluate the precision of hemodynamic parameters in screening mild hypovolemia in patients. This prospective, repeated-measures, cross-sectional study screened 269 subjects via echocardiography. Initially, 45 healthy volunteers underwent a fluid challenge test, the outcomes of which served as criteria to screen 215 ICU patients. Among these patients, 53 underwent additional fluid challenge testing. Hemodynamic parameters, including medians of maximum velocity time integrals (VTImaxs), peak velocity of VTImax (PV), internal jugular vein diameters (IJVD), and area (IJVA) were repeatedly measured first at a 60° upper body elevation (UBE), second in a supine position, third at UBE, fourth in a supine position, and lastly in a supine position after fluid loading. The hemodynamic responses to the position changes were compared between 83 fluid non-responders and 15 fluid responders. Fluid responsiveness was defined as fluid-induced medians' change of VTImaxs (fluid-induced median VTImax change) ≥ 10%. None of the healthy volunteers showed the mean value of repeatedly measured medians of VTImaxs ≥ 7%, following either UBE position (UBE-induced median VTImax change) or fluid loading (fluid-induced median VTImax change). UBE-induced median VTImax and PV changes were significantly correlated with fluid responsiveness (p < 0.001, AUC 0.959; p < 0.001, AUC 0.804). The significant correlations were demonstrated via multivariable analysis using binary logistic regression (p = 0.001, OR 90.1) and the correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.793) using linear regression analysis. UBE-induced median VTImax changes (≥ 11.8% and 7.98%) predicted fluid-induced median VTImax changes ≥ 10% and 7% (AUC 0.959 and 0.939). The collapsibility and variation of IJVD and IJVA showed no significant correlation. An increase in the mean value of medians of repeatedly measured VTImaxs transitioning from an UBE to a supine position, effectively screened mild hypovolemia and demonstrated a significant correlation with fluid responsiveness in spontaneously breathing patients maintaining hemodynamic stability. Tetralogy of Fallot is the most prevalent cyanotic congenital heart disease, requiring lifelong multimodality non-invasive cardiac imaging, such as echocardiography, cardiothoracic computed tomography, and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. As imaging techniques continuously evolve and are gradually integrated into clinical practice, there is a critical need to update multimodality imaging protocols. Over the last two decades, cardiothoracic computed tomography imaging techniques have advanced remarkably, significantly enhancing its role in evaluating patients with tetralogy of Fallot. In this review, we describe contemporary multimodality non-invasive cardiac imaging protocols for tetralogy of Fallot, emphasizing the expanding role of cardiothoracic computed tomography. Background: Continuous monitoring of mitral annular plane systolic excursion (MAPSE) using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) may improve the evaluation of left ventricular (LV) function in postoperative intensive care patients. We aimed to assess the utility of continuous monitoring of LV function using TEE and artificial intelligence (autoMAPSE) in postoperative intensive care patients. Methods: In this prospective observational study, we monitored 50 postoperative intensive care patients for 120 min immediately after cardiac surgery. We recorded a set of two-chamber and four-chamber TEE images every five minutes. We defined monitoring feasibility as how often the same wall from the same patient could be reassessed, and categorized monitoring feasibility as excellent if the same LV wall could be reassessed in ≥ 90% of the total recordings. To compare autoMAPSE with manual measurements, we rapidly recorded three sets of repeated images to assess precision (least significant change), bias, and limits of agreement (LOA). To assess the ability to identify changes (trending ability), we compared changes in autoMAPSE with the changes in manual measurements in images obtained during the initiation of cardiopulmonary bypass as well as before and after surgery. Results: Monitoring feasibility was excellent in most patients (88%). Compared with manual measurements, autoMAPSE was more precise (least significant change 2.2 vs 3.1 mm, P < 0.001), had low bias (0.4 mm), and acceptable agreement (LOA − 2.7 to 3.5 mm). AutoMAPSE had excellent trending ability, as its measurements changed in the same direction as manual measurements (concordance rate 96%). Conclusion: Continuous monitoring of LV function was feasible using autoMAPSE. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between complex aortic plaque (CAP) and short-term as well as long-term outcomes following cardioembolic stroke. CAP is a known risk factor for occurrence and recurrence of ischemic stroke. However, the association of CAP on cardioembolic stroke remains unclear. This was retrospective study using prospective cohort of consecutive patients with cardioembolic stroke who underwent transesophageal echocardiography. The functional outcome was evaluated using the modified Rankin Scale score at 3 months, and long-term outcomes were assessed by recurrence of ischemic stroke and occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Among 759 patients with cardioembolic stroke, 91 (12.0%) had CAP. Early ischemic stroke recurrence within 3 months was associated with CAP (p = 0.025), whereas CAP was not associated with functional outcome at 3 months (odd ratio 1.01, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.57–1.84, p = 0.973). During a median follow-up of 3.02 years, CAP was significantly associated with ischemic stroke recurrence (hazard ratio = 2.68, 95% CI 1.48–4.88, p = 0.001) and MACE occurrence (hazard ratio = 1.61, 95% CI 1.03–2.51, p = 0.039). In conclusion, CAP was associated with early ischemic stroke recurrence and poor long-term outcomes in patients with cardioembolic stroke. For pre-procedural planning of left atrial appendage (LAA) closure, sizing is crucial. Although transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a standard modality, cardiac computed tomography (CT) is also widely used. The virtual TEE (V-TEE) that our group developed enables us to reconstruct images similar to TEE images from CT images. The software should be helpful to understand and plan the procedure strategy. Accordingly, we investigated the utility of V-TEE. Sixty-six patients at 4 participating sites who completed both CT and TEE prior to LAA closure were included. The LAA diameter at the landing zone (LZ) for WATCHMAN™ device implantation was statistically compared at 0°, 45°, 90°, and 135° between V-TEE and TEE. Among 66 cases, only 3 cases were excluded due to poor imaging quality, and 63 cases were analyzed. The device LZ diameters based on V-TEE were strongly correlated with those based on TEE, despite the significantly greater diameter based on V-TEE with mean differences of 2.4 to 3.0 mm (all of them: P < 0.001). The discordances (V-TEE/TEE ratio) at most angles were significantly larger in the elliptical LAAs. V-TEE provides a valuable method for the evaluation of the LAA diameters. V-TEE-based measurements were larger than conventional TEE-based measurements, especially in cases of elliptical LAAs. Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension is most of the time diagnosed late in the course of the disease and necessitates right cardiac catheterization which is an invasive and costly tool. MicroRNAs have a role in the pathogenesis of pulmonary hypertension, systemic sclerosis, and schistosomiasis and their dosages are easy and non-expensive. Therefore, determining their levels in the blood may be helpful in detecting PAH and differentiating its idiopathic form from those caused by systemic sclerosis and schistosomiasis. Purpose of the study: To evaluate the role of microRNA (miR) 204 and miR-210 in the diagnosis of PAH and to distinguish between idiopathic PAH (IPAH), systemic sclerosis-associated PAH (SSc-PAH), and schistosomiasis-associated PAH (Sch-PAH) and to identify patients who may benefit from simple non-expensive and non-invasive methods in diagnosis of PAH. Methods: Sixty patients with PAH and 30 subjects as control were enrolled in the study. PAH was diagnosed by right heart catheterization, echocardiography, and laboratory tests. Blood samples were taken from all patients for measuring miR-204 and miR-210. Results: MiR-204 was downregulated in PAH and there was a highly significant difference between PAH and control (p = 0.003) with cut-off predictive value ≤ 0.15 µM and 70% sensitivity, 85% specificity with AUC (0.749). However, miR-204 failed to distinguish between IPAH, SSc-PAH, and Sch-PAH. MiR-210 was upregulated in PAH with a highly significant difference between PAH and control (p < 0.001) with cut-off predictive value ≥ 1.16 µM and 93.33% sensitivity, 85% specificity with AUC (0.917). MiiR-210 showed a significant difference between SSc-PAH and idiopathic PAH (P = 0.012) and between SSc-PAH and Sch-PAH (P = 0.035). Conclusions: MiR-204 and miR-210 are useful non-invasive and non-expensive markers for the diagnosis of PAH, miR-210 is an excellent predictor in the diagnosis of PAH and also miR-210 might be used to distinguish SSc-PAH from idiopathic PAH and Sch-PAH. Background: Neurocardiogenic injury is common after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) despite low prevalence of preexisting cardiac disease. Potential mechanisms include autonomic dysregulation due to excess catecholamines as well as systemic inflammation. Understanding how inflammation contributes to cardiac dysfunction may aid in identifying novel therapeutic strategies. Here, we investigated serum leukocytes as predictors of left ventricular systolic dysfunction in patients with aSAH. We also investigated increased cardiac macrophages in an animal model of SAH and whether immunomodulatory treatment could attenuate this inflammatory response. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 256 patients with aSAH admitted to University of Illinois Hospital between 2013 and 2019. Our inclusion criteria included patients with aSAH receiving an echocardiogram within 72 h of admission. Our primary outcome was echocardiographic evidence of systolic dysfunction. We performed multinomial regression and receiver operating curve analysis. We also used the endovascular perforation model of SAH in male Sprague–Dawley rats to assess for myocardial inflammation. Two days after surgery, hearts were collected and stained for the macrophage marker Iba-1. We compared the presence and morphology of macrophages in cardiac tissue isolated from SAH animals and sham controls treated with and without the immunomodulatory agent fingolimod. Results: Of 256 patients with aSAH, 233 (91.0%) underwent echocardiography within 72 h of admission. Of 233, 81 (34.7%) had systolic dysfunction. Patients had baseline differences in the presence of hypertension, alcohol use, and admission Glasgow Coma Scale and Hunt-Hess score. On multivariable analysis, total leukocytes (odds ratio 1.312, p < 0.001), neutrophils (odds ratio 1.242, p = 0.012), and monocytes (odds ratio 6.112, p = 0.008) were independent predictors of reduced systolic function, whereas only monocytes (odds ratio 28.014, p = 0.030) predicted hyperdynamic function. Within the rodent heart, there were increased macrophages after SAH relative to controls, and this was attenuated by fingolimod treatment (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Increased serum leukocytes are associated with abnormal left ventricular systolic function following aSAH. The strongest independent predictor of both reduced and hyperdynamic systolic function was increased monocytes. Echocardiography frequently serves as the first-line treatment of diagnostic imaging for several pathological entities in cardiology. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been growing substantially in information technology and various commercial industries. Machine learning (ML), a branch of AI, has been shown to expand the capabilities and potential of echocardiography. ML algorithms expand the field of echocardiography by automated assessment of the ejection fraction and left ventricular function, integrating novel approaches such as speckle tracking or tissue Doppler echocardiography or vector flow mapping, improved phenotyping, distinguishing between cardiac conditions, and incorporating information from mobile health and genomics. In this review article, we assess the impact of AI and ML in echocardiography. Plain Language Summary: Echocardiography is the most common test in cardiovascular imaging and helps diagnose multiple different diseases. Machine learning, a branch of artificial intelligence (AI), will reduce the workload for medical professionals and help improve clinical workflows. It can rapidly calculate a lot of important cardiac parameters such as the ejection fraction or important metrics during different phases of the cardiac cycle. Machine learning algorithms can include new technology in echocardiography such as speckle tracking, tissue Doppler echocardiography, vector flow mapping, and other approaches in a user-friendly manner. To estimate if there is an association between partial AVSD with chromosomal abnormalities, cardiac and extracardiac malformations, and to report the outcomes of prenatally diagnosed AVSD in a large, contemporary cohort. This is a retrospective cohort study of 190 prenatally diagnosed fetal AVSD between 2014 and 2023. Type of AVSD (complete vs partial), additional cardiac findings, extracardiac findings, presence of a heterotaxy, results of prenatal karyotype, and pregnancy outcomes were documented and analyzed. A total of 190 cases of fetal AVSD were analyzed. Complete AVSDs comprised 141 (74.2%) of the cohort, while partial AVSDs comprised 49 (25.7%). Karyotype was completed in 131 cases, and in 98 (74.8%) cases chromosomal abnormalities were identified, with trisomy 21 being the most common (53/131, 40.5%). Complete AVSDs were associated with trisomy 21 (45.5%, p = 0.04), Isolated cases of complete AVSDs (p = 0.03). Partial AVSDs were associated with trisomy 18 (53.1%, p < 0.001). In cases of partial AVSDs with aneuploidies, 7 (70%) had an ostium primum defect and 20 (90.9%) of AV canal type VSD. Isolated partial AVSD had no clear association with aneuploidies. There were additional cardiac anomalies in 96 (50.5%) and extracardiac anomalies in 134 (70.5%) of the cohort. There were no differences between partial and complete AVSD in rate of additional cardiac and extracardiac anomalies. AVSD was part of a heterotaxy in 47 (24.7%) of cases, and heterotaxy was associated with complete AVSD in the majority of cases (43/47, 91.4%, p = 0.003). Fetal partial AVSDs are associated with trisomy 18. Fetal complete AVSDs, even isolated, are associated with trisomy 21. There were no differences in association of other aneuploidies, additional cardiac findings, or extracardiac anomalies between prenatally diagnosed complete AVSDs and partial AVSDs. Prenatal diagnosis of critical congenital heart disease (CCHD) has improved over time, and previous studies have identified CCHD subtype and socioeconomic status as factors influencing rates of prenatal diagnosis. Our objective of this single-center study was to compare prenatal diagnosis rates of newborns with CCHD admitted for cardiac intervention from the COVID-19 pandemic period (March 2020 to March 2021) to the pre-pandemic period and identify factors associated with the lack of CCHD prenatal diagnosis. The overall rate of CCHD and rates of the various CCHD diagnoses were calculated and compared with historical data collection periods (2009–2012 and 2013–2016). Compared with the 2009–2012 pre-pandemic period, patients had 2.17 times higher odds of having a prenatal diagnosis of CCHD during the pandemic period controlling for lesion type (aOR = 2.17, 95% CI 1.36–3.48, p = 0.001). Single ventricle lesions (aOR 6.74 [4.64–9.80], p < 0.001) and outflow tract anomalies (aOR 2.20 [1.56–3.12], p < 0.001) had the highest odds of prenatal diagnosis compared with the remaining lesions. Patients with outflow tract anomalies had higher odds for prenatal detection in the pandemic period compared with during the 2009–2012 pre-pandemic period (aOR 2.01 [1.06–3.78], p = 0.031). Cardiac dysfunction is associated with mortality in children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). We evaluated the ability of qualitative and quantitative RV functional parameters to predict outcomes in HLHS patients. In this retrospective, single-center study, echocardiograms from 3 timepoints (pre-stage 1 palliation, 4–8 weeks post-stage 1 palliation, and pre-Glenn) were analyzed in infants with HLHS. Patients were stratified into two groups based on outcome of transplant-free survival post-Glenn (survivors) versus mortality or transplantation prior to Fontan (non-survivors). Images were retrospectively reviewed to obtain RV global longitudinal strain (RVGLS), RV-free wall strain (RVFWS), fractional area change (FAC), tricuspid annular systolic plane excursion (TAPSE), tissue motion annular displacement of the tricuspid valve (TMAD-TV) and qualitative systolic function assessment during the predetermined timepoints. An equal variance t-test and chi-square were used to determine significant differences and ROC curve analysis was performed to derive optimal cutoff values to predict mortality/transplant. A total of 47 patients met inclusion criteria, of which, 21 patients met composite endpoint. There were no significant differences in any RV functional parameter during the pre- or post-stage 1 palliation timepoints. The absolute values of RVFWS, RVGLS, and TMAD-TV were significantly greater in survivors than non-survivors during the pre-Glenn timepoint. A pre-Glenn RVGLS > −15.6 (AUC 0.79), RVFWS > −18.6 (AUC 0.75), and TMAD-TV < 12.6% (AUC 0.82) were sensitive and specific for predicting death or need for transplantation prior to Fontan completion. Pediatric ECG standards have been defined without echocardiographic confirmation of normal anatomy. The Pediatric Heart Network Normal Echocardiogram Z-score Project provides a racially diverse group of healthy children with normal echocardiograms. We hypothesized that ECG and echocardiographic measures of left ventricular (LV) dimensions are sufficiently correlated in healthy children to imply a clinically meaningful relationship. This was a secondary analysis of a previously described cohort including 2170 digital ECGs. The relationship between 6 ECG measures associated with LV size were analyzed with LV Mass (LVMass-z) and left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV-z) along with 11 additional parameters. Pearson or Spearman correlations were calculated for the 78 ECG-echocardiographic pairs with regression analyses assessing the variance in ECG measures explained by variation in LV dimensions and demographic variables. ECG/echocardiographic measurement correlations were significant and concordant in 41/78 (53%), though many were significant and discordant (13/78). Of the 6 ECG parameters, 5 correlated in the clinically predicted direction for LV Mass-z and LVEDV-z. Even when statistically significant, correlations were weak (0.05–0.24). R2 was higher for demographic variables than for echocardiographic measures or body surface area in all pairs, but remained weak (R2 ≤ 0.17). In a large cohort of healthy children, there was a positive association between echocardiographic measures of LV size and ECG measures of LVH. These correlations were weak and dependent on factors other than echocardiographic or patient derived variables. Thus, our data support deemphasizing the use of solitary, traditional measurement-based ECG markers traditionally thought to be characteristic of LVH as standalone indications for further cardiac evaluation of LVH in children and adolescents. Vascular rings are arterial malformations that lead to the compression of the trachea and/or esophagus. While "tight" rings often produce symptoms and require surgery, "loose" rings rarely produce symptoms. Given advances in fetal echocardiography, this diagnosis is now more often made prenatally. This poses a new conundrum in the management of asymptomatic patients, leading to practice variation and creating a target for clinical system improvement. Hence, we conducted this survey aiming to demonstrate the practice variation existing in current evaluation and management of these patients. An anonymous web-based survey was distributed to several listservs for pediatric cardiologists and pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons. Survey questions targeted respondent practice characteristics, testing obtained, and indications for testing or surgical referral. In total 61 responses were received, predominantly from pediatric cardiologists (95%) in the United States (97%). About 60% of clinicians reported frequently diagnosing patients with vascular rings by fetal echocardiogram, with only about 20% diagnosing them frequently on evaluation of symptoms. Computed tomography angiography and echocardiogram were the most common imaging modalities employed. Most clinicians obtained cross-sectional imaging at the time of diagnosis and referred to surgery once patients had at least occasional symptoms. Respondents demonstrated a low degree of agreement (Krippendorf's alpha 0.48). Few statistically significant patterns were identified between respondents based on their practice characteristics. This study identified significant variation between clinicians regarding the evaluation and management of vascular rings. Early detection of cardiac involvement in Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) is difficult due to the absence of clinical signs and symptoms, with systolic dysfunction often emerging in late stages and associated with a poor prognosis. This study aimed to employ two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) for subclinical assessment of left ventricular (LV) systolic failure in JDM and explore potential associations between impaired LV systolic function (LV-GLS) and disease activity. A prospective study enrolled 20 healthy volunteers and 26 JDM patients (< 18 years old) without cardiac symptoms. Clinical data were collected from medical records, and echocardiograms were conducted by a pediatric cardiologist. Our study cohort demonstrated similar age to controls (13.5 ±.6 vs. 13.8 ± 4.7; p = 0.465). Median illness duration at echocardiography was 5 (1.5–17.5) years, and conventional echocardiography indicated normal LV ejection fraction (> 55%) in all participants. However, STE revealed lowered LV GLS in JDM patients (− 22.2 ± 4.1% vs. − 26.5 ± 5.3% p = 0.022). Pulse steroid users displayed lower GLS average values compared to non-users (β = 4.99, 95% CI 1.34–8.64, p = 0.009). Negative correlations existed between LV-GLS and age at diagnosis (r = − 0.499; p = 0.011), diastolic parameters (E/E′ ratio) and age at diagnosis (r = − 0.469; p = 0.018), as well as RV global strain and age at diagnosis (r = − 0.443; p = 0.024). Employing STE in JDM patients facilitated the identification of preclinical cardiac dysfunction. Left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO) remains a significant complication after primary repair of interrupted aortic arch with ventricular septal defect (IAA-VSD). Clinical and echocardiographic predictors for LVOTO reoperation are controversial and procedures to prophylactically prevent future LVOTO are not reliable. However, it is important to identify the patients at risk for future LVOTO intervention after repair of IAA-VSD. Patients who underwent single-stage IAA-VSD repair at our center 2006–2021 were retrospectively reviewed, excluding patients with associated cardiac lesions. Two-dimensional measurements, LVOT gradients, and 4-chamber (4C) and short-axis (SAXM) strain were obtained from preoperative and predischarge echocardiograms. Univariate risk analysis for LVOTO reoperation was performed using unpaired t-test. Thirty patients were included with 21 (70%) IAA subtype B and mean weight at surgery 3.0 kg. Repair included aortic arch patch augmentation in 20 patients and subaortic obstruction intervention in three patients. Seven (23%) required reoperations for LVOTO. Patient characteristics were similar between patients who required LVOT reoperation and those who did not. Patch augmentation was not associated with LVOTO reintervention. Patients requiring reintervention had significantly smaller LVOT AP diameter preoperatively and at discharge, and higher LVOT velocity, smaller AV annular diameter, and ascending aortic diameter at discharge. There was an association between LVOT-indexed cross-sectional area (CSAcm2/BSAm2) ≤ 0.7 and reintervention. There was no significant difference in 4C or SAXM strain in patients requiring reintervention. LVOTO reoperation was not associated with preoperative clinical or surgical variables but was associated with smaller LVOT on preoperative echo and smaller LVOT, smaller AV annular diameter, and increased LVOT velocity at discharge. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), is a rare but severe, hyperinflammatory complication of COVID-19, in which cardiovascular abnormalities are frequently detected. In this prospective study, we describe the echocardiographic findings in patients with MIS-C, with the use of conventional Echocardiography and Speckle-Tracking Echocardiography (STE) with Left Ventricular (LV) Global Longitudinal Strain (GLS) analysis, in the acute and follow-up phase. In total, 25 MIS-C patients [64% females, mean (± SD) age: 8.3 (± 3.72) years] were included. In the acute phase, median (IQR) Troponin and NT-proBNP and mean heart rate, were 8.07 (14.52) pg/mL, 2875.00 (7713.00) pg/mL, and 102.87 (± 22.96) bpm, respectively. Median (IQR) LV Ejection Fraction (LVEF) was 66 (8)% and LVEF impairment was detected in 2/25 (8%) patients. On follow-up (mean time interval:9.50 ± 4.59 months), heart rate was significantly lower, with a mean value of 90.00 (± 14.56) bpm (p-value = 0.017). Median (IQR) LVEF was 66.00 (6.70)% (p-value = 0.345) and all 25 participants had normal LVEF. In 14/25 patients, additional LV-GLS analysis was performed. During the acute phase, mean LV-GLS was − 18.02 (± 4.40)%. LV-GLS was abnormal in 6/14 patients (42.9%) and among them, only one patient had reduced LVEF. On follow-up (median (IQR) time interval:6.93 (3.66) months), mean LV-GLS was -20.31 (± 1.91)% (p-value = 0.07) and in 1/14 patient (7.1%), the LV-GLS impairment persisted. In conclusion, in the acute and follow-up phase, we detected abnormal LV-GLS values in some patients, in the presence of normal LVEF, indicating that STE-GLS is a valuable tool for identifying subclinical myocardial injury in MIS-C. Purpose: Dive-induced cardiac and hemodynamic changes are caused by various mechanisms, and they are aggravated by cold water. Therefore, aging divers with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions may be at risk of acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, or arrhythmias while diving. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of a single decompression CCR dive in arctic cold water on cardiac function in Finnish technical divers. Methods: Thirty-nine divers performed one identical 45 mfw CCR dive in 2–4 °C water. Hydration and cardiac functions were assessed before and after the dive. Detection of venous gas embolization was performed within 120 min after the dive. Results: The divers were affected by both cold-water-induced hemodynamic changes and immersion-related fluid loss. Both systolic and diastolic functions were impaired after the dive although the changes in cardiac functions were subtle. Venous inert gas bubbles were detected in all divers except for one. Venous gas embolism did not affect systolic or diastolic function. Conclusion: A single trimix CCR dive in arctic cold water seemed to debilitate both systolic and diastolic function. Although the changes were subtle, they appeared parallel over several parameters. This indicates a real post-dive deterioration in cardiac function instead of only volume-dependent changes. These changes are without a clinical significance in healthy divers. Purpose: To analyze the learning curves of ultrasound novices in fetal echocardiography during structured simulation-based ultrasound training (SIM-UT) including a virtual, randomly moving fetus. Methods: 11 medical students with minimal (< 10 h) prior obstetric ultrasound experience underwent 12 h of structured fetal echocardiography SIM-UT in individual hands-on sessions during a 6-week training program. Their learning progress was assessed with standardized tests after 2, 4, and 6 weeks of SIM-UT. Participants were asked to obtain 11 fetal echocardiography standard planes (in accordance with ISUOG and AHA guidelines) as quickly as possible. All tests were carried out under real life, examination-like conditions on a healthy, randomly moving fetus. Subsequently, we analyzed the rate of correctly obtained images and the total time to completion (TTC). As reference groups, 10 Ob/Gyn physicians (median of 750 previously performed Ob/Gyn scans) and 10 fetal echocardiography experts (median of 15,000 previously performed Ob/Gyn scans) were examined with the same standardized tests. Results: The students showed a consistent and steady improvement of their ultrasound performance during the training program. After 2 weeks, they were able to obtain > 95% of the standard planes correctly. After 6 weeks, they were significantly faster than the physician group (p < 0.001) and no longer significantly slower than the expert group (p = 0.944). Conclusion: SIM-UT is highly effective to learn fetal echocardiography. Objectives: To investigate whether two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2DSTE) can be considered a criterion for early left ventricular (LV) systolic impairment in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to further explore the association with each other. Methods: We included 38 patients with SLE and assessed the degree of disease activity according to the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) 2000 scoring criteria, together with 38 healthy controls who were matched by sex and age. Routine LV systolic function evaluation parameters were obtained by echocardiography as well as 2DSTE measurement of LV strain parameters to obtain global longitudinal strain (GLS) values, respectively. Results: (I) On routine LV function parameters such as ejection fractions (EF) and left ventricular end-diastolic internal diameter (LVIDd), the SLE group and the control group did not reflect differences. In contrast, on the LV strain parameter obtained from 2DSTE measurements, the GLS values in all cardiac planes were lower in the SLE group than in the control group and showed statistically significant differences. (II) Correlation analysis showed that there was a correlation between SLEDAI and GLS, especially a meaningful correlation with GLS Avg and GLS A4C, with correlation coefficients of 0.35 and 0.47, respectively. Conclusions: The use of 2DSTE can detect early impaired LV systolic function in SLE patients, and GLS is progressively gaining attention as an indicator of subclinical myocardial injury and LV function in SLE patients. The correlation that exists between GLS and SLEDAI might contribute to a better assessment of cardiac involvement in SLE patients. Background: Diabetes mellitus is an important independent risk factor for the development of cardiovascular and renal disease which has been the cause of death in majority of the diabetic population. Albuminuria has been shown to predict cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in diabetics. Objective: The purpose of this study was to correlate microalbuminuria and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (earliest manifestation of heart disease) in type 2 diabetes mellitus to aid in subclinical diagnosis, risk stratification, and prompt management of cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients. Methods: This study assessed the incidence of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) using echocardiography and its correlation with microalbuminuria and with other parameters like age, gender, BMI, duration of diabetes mellitus, and glycosylated hemoglobin in 90 normotensive, type 2 diabetic patients in a tertiary care hospital in Western India. Results: The prevalence of LVDD in our study is 59% (n = 53). The mean age of the study subjects was 60.7 years. Out of 59 subjects with BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2, diastolic dysfunction was seen in 31 patients. The mean duration of diabetes mellitus in our study is 11.5 years. Good glycemic control, i.e., HbA1c ≤ 7.0, was seen in 13 patients with LVDD. Out of 53 subjects with LVDD, 48 (90.5%) subjects had microalbuminuria. Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between microalbuminuria and LVDD in type 2 diabetes mellitus, independent of other parameters studied (age, sex, BMI, glycemic control, and duration of diabetes). Myocardial injury in open-heart surgery is related to several factors including ischemia–reperfusion injury, generation of reactive oxygen species, increased production of inflammatory mediators, and enhancement of apoptosis of cardiomyocytes. The aim of this study was to study the effect of L-carnitine on myocardial injury in children undergoing open-heart surgery. This clinical trial was performed on 60 children with congenital heart disease (CHD) who underwent open-heart surgery. They were randomized into two groups: L-carnitine group who received L-carnitine 50 mg\kg\day once daily for 1 month before cardiac surgery and control group who received placebo for 1 month before cardiac surgery. Left ventricular cardiac function was assessed by conventional echocardiography to measure left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) to determine left ventricular global longitudinal strain (2D-LV GLS). Blood samples were obtained pre-operatively at baseline before the administration of L-carnitine or placebo and 12 h post-operatively to measure the level of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), fas, caspase-3, creatinine kinase-MB (CK-MB), and troponin I. L-carnitine group had significantly lower post-operative level of oxidative stress marker (MDA), apoptosis markers (fas and caspase-3), and myocardial injury markers (CK-MB and troponin I), but they had significantly higher SOD post-operative level compared to the control group. In addition, post-operative LVEF and 2D-LVGLS were significantly lower in the control group compared to L-carnitine group. Conclusion: L-carnitine can reduce myocardial injury, improve post-operative left ventricular cardiac function, and may provide myocardium protection in children with CHD who underwent open-heart surgery. Previous investigations have highlighted notable variations in cardiovascular risk indicators associated with various professional categories. However, only a few studies have examined structural and functional cardiac parameters using echocardiography within distinct occupational groups. Hence, this study endeavored to assess cardiac structural and functional parameters in three additional occupations: firefighters (FFs), police officers (POs), and office workers (OWs). This prospective study encompassed 197 male participants (97 FFs, 54 POs, and 46 OWs) from Germany. All participants underwent 2D and Doppler echocardiography in resting conditions; standard parasternal and apical axis views were employed to evaluate structural (diastolic and systolic) and functional (systolic and diastolic function, and strain) cardiac parameters. All three occupational groups exhibited a tendency towards septal hypertrophy. Notably, OWs exhibited the largest diastolic interventricular septum diameter (IVSd), at 1.33 ± 0.25 cm. IVSd significantly varied between POs and OWs (p = 0.000) and between POs and FFs (p = 0.025). Additionally, during diastole a substantially larger left ventricular posterior wall diameter (LVPWd) was observed in OWs compared to FFs (p = 0.001) and POs (p = 0.013). The left ventricular diastolic cavity diameter (LVIDd) and the left ventricular systolic cavity diameter (LVIDs) were significantly higher in POs than they were in FFs (LVIDd: p = 0.001; LVIDs: p = 0.009), and the LVIDd was notably higher in FFs (p = 0.015) and POs compared to OWs (p = 0.000). FFs exhibited significantly better diastolic function, indicated by higher diastolic peak velocity ratios (MV E/A ratio) and E/E’ ratios, compared to POs (E/A ratio: p = 0.025; E/E’ ratio: p = 0.014). No significant difference in diastolic performance was found between OWs and FFs. Significantly higher E’(lateral) values were noted in POs compared to FFs (p = 0.003) and OWs (p = 0.004). Ejection fraction did not significantly differ among FFs, POs, and OWs (p > 0.6). The left ventricular mass (LV Mass) was notably higher in POs than it was in FFs (p = 0.039) and OWs (p = 0.033). Strain parameter differences were notably improved in two- (p = 0.006) and four-chamber (p = 0.018) views for FFs compared to POs. Concentric remodeling was the predominant change observed in all three occupational groups. Significant differences in the presence of various forms of hypertrophy were observed in FFs, POs, and OWs (exact Fisher test p-values: FFs vs. OWs = 0.021, POs vs. OWs = 0.002). OWs demonstrated notably higher rates of concentric remodeling than FFs did (71.77% vs. 47.9%). This study underscores disparities in both functional and structural parameters in diverse occupational groups. Larger prospective studies are warranted to investigate and delineate differences in structural and functional cardiac parameters across occupational groups, and to discern their associated effects and risks on the cardiovascular health of these distinct professional cohorts. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is the cardiac visceral fat depot proposed to play a role in the etiology of various cardiovascular disease outcomes. Little is known about EAT determinants in a general population. We examined cardiometabolic, dietary, lifestyle and socioeconomic determinants of echocardiograpghically measured EAT in early adulthood. Data on cardiometabolic, dietary, lifestyle and socioeconomic factors were collected from participants of the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study (YFS; N = 1667; age 34–49 years). EAT thickness was measured from parasternal long axis echocardiograms. Multivariable regression analysis was used to study potential EAT determinants. Possible effect modification of sex was addressed. Mean EAT thickness was 4.07 mm (95% CI 4.00–4.17). Multivariable analysis [β indicating percentage of change in EAT(mm) per one unit increase in determinant variable] indicated female sex (β = 11.0, P < 0.0001), type 2 diabetes (β = 14.0, P = 0.02), waist circumference (cm) (β = 0.38, P < 0.0001), systolic blood pressure (mmHg) (β = 0.18, P = 0.02) and red meat intake (g/day) (β = 0.02, P = 0.05) as EAT determinants. Sex-specific analysis revealed age (year) (β = 0.59, P = 0.01), alcohol intake (drinks/day) (β = 4.69, P = 0.006), heavy drinking (yes/no) (β = 30.4, P < 0.0001) as EAT determinants in women and fruit intake (g/day) (β = −1.0, P = 0.04) in men. In the YFS cohort, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure and red meat intake were directly associated with EAT among all participants. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has been the preferred imaging modality to help guide left atrial appendage closure. Newer technologies such as the Nuvision 4D Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) catheter allow for real-time 3D imaging of cardiac anatomy. There are no direct comparison studies for procedural imaging between TEE and 4D ICE. To evaluate the performance and safety of left atrial appendage (LAA) closure procedures with the Watchman FLX and Amulet, guided by the Nuvision 4D ICE Catheter. This retrospective observational analysis was conducted on institutional LAAO National Cardiovascular Data Registry from January 2022 to March 2023. Patients had undergone LAA closure procedures with the Watchman FLX or Amulet device guided by TEE or a 4D ICE Catheter. The primary outcome evaluated was successful LAAO device placement. A total of 121 patients underwent LAAO device placement with 46 (38.0%) patients guided by 4D ICE during LAAO implantation. The 4D ICE group had a shorter procedural time compared with TEE guidance. Post procedural 45-day TEE post implant was also comparable for both groups with no patients in either group having incomplete closure of the left atrial appendage and peri-device leak > 5 mm. No device related complications (device related access, stroke, or pericardial effusion) occurred in either group at follow-up. There was no significant difference in device implant success or post procedural outcomes at 45 days in either the TEE or 4D ICE group. Preclinical in vivo evaluation is an essential step in the progression of new cardiac devices into patient use, with studies predominantly performed in the domestic sheep model. A growing area of interest in cardiac device development is transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR). Clinically, multimodal imaging, or computed tomography (CT) and echocardiography (echo) are used extensively to preoperatively determine mitral valve morphology prior to an intervention, but there is no description on how these modalities can be implemented to support preclinical studies. The purpose of this study is to apply clinically relevant CT and echo acquisition and assessment techniques to a large group of naive research sheep in order to analyze and report modality-related effects on mitral valve dimensional reference intervals in the sheep model. To this end, fifty-five adult domestic sheep underwent preoperative CT and echo exams and resultant images were analyzed using a landmark-based multiplanar measurement protocol and compiled into a master dataset for statistical analysis. We found moderate agreement between CT and echo-derived measurements of the mitral valve in sheep and propose the first clinically-relevant dimensional indices for the sheep's naive mitral valve which can be used to guide future studies evaluating novel TMVR devices. This study is the first of its kind in proposing a reproducible method for detailed examination of the mitral valve in the sheep model using clinically-relevant multimodal imaging. Background: Pulmonary embolism is a common and potentially fatal condition. Exogenous estrogens in contraceptives are associated with an increased risk of venous thrombo-embolism. However, discontinuation of a combined oral contraceptive can lead to severe withdrawal bleeding in an anticoagulated patient. Case presentation: We report a case of a 47-year-old female who presented to the emergency room with a two-day history of worsening shortness of breath and chest pain. Her chronic medication included a combined oral contraceptive pill. Transthoracic echocardiogram showed pulmonary hypertension and right ventricular dilatation. Computerized tomography scan revealed bilateral pulmonary embolism. She received thrombolysis with alteplase and was started on rivaroxaban. Five days after discharge, however, she was readmitted with severe vaginal bleeding. Discussion and conclusion: We describe a case of submassive pulmonary embolism, treated with thrombolysis and anticoagulation, who developed severe vaginal bleeding after stopping the contraceptive pill. This case highlights the importance of detailed menstrual history taking when initiating anticoagulation in women. Discontinuation of oral contraceptives, while important in reducing the risk of recurrent thrombosis, could be postponed until the end of the recommended course of anticoagulation and until a safe alternative form of contraception has been established, if required. Background: Sodium glucose co-transporter2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have exhibited cardioprotective properties in diabetes patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Empagliflozin on changes in echocardiographic parameters. Methods: This was a post hoc analysis of the EMPA-CARD trial which was a multicenter, triple-blind randomized controlled trial. Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with concomitant history of coronary artery disease were randomized on a 1:1 ratio into two groups receiving either 10 mg/day Empagliflozin or placebo. Patients with a history of heart failure (NYHA class 3–4) and ejection fraction (EF) < 40% were excluded. Trans-thoracic echocardiography was performed at baseline and at 26 weeks of intervention. Results: A total of 69 (Empagliflozin = 39 and placebo = 30) patients underwent echocardiography. Significant changes were observed for left ventricular ejection fraction [standard error (SE) = 0.76; beta (95% correlation interval (CrI)] = -5.558 (-7.25; -4.18) and left ventricular end-systolic volume (SE = 1.38; beta (95% CrI) = 3.915 (1.2; 0.66). Other echocardiographic parameters relating to right ventricular or atrial function did not change significantly. Conclusion: Empagliflozin can have cardioprotective benefits in subjects without HF. Further studies are required to determine the effect of Empagliflozin in non-HF patients. Cardioembolic stroke is a serious disease with poor prognosis, whose main embolic source is the left atrial appendage (LAA). Left atrial (LA) strain evaluated by the two-dimensional (2D) speckle tracking technique has been proposed. However, the commonly used peak LA strain reflects only LA reservoir function. The LA strain also includes indicators of the other LA functions, such as booster pump function, which reflects active contraction of the LA. This study aimed to investigate whether a newly developed parameter, the left atrial strain time integral (LASTI), can evaluate LAA dysfunction more accurately in patients with acute stroke. We measured LA strain using a 2D speckle tracking method in 168 patients with acute stroke and 20 age-matched control subjects. LASTI was calculated as the area under the LA strain curve in one cardiac cycle. LAA dysfunction was defined as LAA thrombus and/or severe spontaneous echo contrast by transesophageal echocardiography. LASTI was significantly lower in patients with LAA dysfunction than those without. LASTI was a better correlation with LAA blood flow velocity measured by transesophageal echocardiography than peak LA strain. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that LASTI was an independent predictor of LAA dysfunction after adjustment for conventional risk factors. Objective: This retrospective study aimed to investigate the potential impact of ticagrelor and clopidogrel treatment on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with anemia and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and to provide insights into the optimal therapeutic approach for this vulnerable patient population. Methods: A retrospective research design was employed, involving patients diagnosed with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) or non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) between 2014 and 2021. Inclusion criteria required a hemoglobin level below 12 mg/dL and a minimum 12-month P2Y12 inhibitor treatment. Comprehensive clinical, biochemical, and echocardiographic data were collected from the hospital's electronic repository. The primary efficacy endpoint was major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), encompassing total mortality, cardiovascular mortality, reinfarction, ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke. Major hemorrhage was the primary safety endpoint. Secondary outcomes included total mortality, cardiovascular mortality, reinfarction, ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke, individually. Results: Patients treated with ticagrelor (n = 118) and clopidogrel (n = 538) were compared. No significant difference was observed in major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and major bleeding between ticagrelor and clopidogrel treatment groups (MACE: clopidogrel 10.0% vs. ticagrelor 11.0%, p = 0.75; major bleeding: clopidogrel 2.8%, ticagrelor 2.5%, p = 0.88). Patients with hemoglobin levels ≤ 8 mg/dL demonstrated significantly higher MACE and major bleeding rates in the ticagrelor group (p = 0.008 and p = 0.002, respectively). Among patients aged ≥ 75 years, ticagrelor treatment was associated with a higher risk of major bleeding (p = 0.04). Conclusions: Ticagrelor and clopidogrel exhibited comparable efficacy and safety outcomes in anemic ACS patients over a one-year period. Although ticagrelor demonstrated superiority in reducing ischemic events, it is crucial to recognize the limitations of retrospective studies in informing clinical practice. This study offers valuable insights into tailoring antiplatelet therapy for anemic ACS patients and provides guidance for personalized treatment strategies, acknowledging the hypothesis-generating nature of retrospective analyses. Introduction: Prevalence of cardiac and vascular fibrosis in patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) has not been extensively evaluated. Aim: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the heart and vessels functional and structural properties in patients with IPF compared to healthy controls. An exploratory analysis regarding disease severity in IPF patients has been done. Methods: We enrolled 50 patients with IPF (at disease diagnosis before antifibrotic therapy initiation) and 50 controls matched for age and gender. Heart was evaluated through echocardiography and plasmatic NT-pro-brain natriuretic peptide that, together with patients' symptoms, allow to define the presence of Heart Failure (HF) and diastolic dysfunction. Vessels were evaluated through Flow Mediated Dilation (FMD – endothelial function) and Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV—arterial stiffness) Results: Patients with IPF had a prevalence of diastolic disfunction of 83.8%, HF of 37.8% and vascular fibrosis of 76.6%. No statistically significant difference was observed in comparison to the control group who showed prevalence of diastolic disfunction, HF and vascular fibrosis of 67.3%, 24.5% and 84.8%, respectively. Disease severity seems not to affect PWV, FMD, diastolic dysfunction and HF. Conclusions: Patients with IPF early in the disease course do not present a significant CV fibrotic involvement when compared with age- and sex-matched controls. Bigger and adequately powered studies are needed to confirm our preliminary data and longitudinal studies are required in order to understand the time of appearance and progression rate of heart and vascular involvement in IPF subjects. Purpose: To investigate the impact of soccer training on cardiac adaptations in mildly hypertensive middle-aged women. Methods: Hypertensive premenopausal women (n = 41; age (mean ± SD): 44 ± 7 years; height: 166 ± 6 cm; weight: 78.6 ± 11.6 kg; body fat: 43.3 ± 5.2%) were randomized to soccer training (SOC, n = 21) or control (CON, n = 20). SOC performed three weekly training sessions for 15 weeks, whereas CON had no training or lifestyle changes during the same period. Cardiac structure and function were assessed by echocardiography pre-intervention and post-intervention. Results: Soccer training increased (P = 0.001) left ventricular mass index by 10% [95% CI 4; 15], while no changes occurred in CON (time × group interaction, P = 0.005). In addition, only SOC demonstrated a within-group increase (P = 0.01) of 8% [95% CI 2; 14] in left ventricular septum diameter. For markers of right ventricular remodelling, a within-group increase (P = 0.02) occurred for tricuspid annulus plane systolic excursion of 8% [95% CI 1; 14] in SOC only. Left atrial diameter index increased (P < 0.001) by 6% [95% CI 3; 10] after SOC, while it was unaffected in CON (time × group interaction, P = 0.02). For makers of diastolic function, SOC demonstrated a within-group increase (P = 0.02) in the average early diastolic mitral annulus velocity of 10% [95% CI 2; 19]. In addition, a reduction (P < 0.001) in mitral valve A velocity of − 19% [95% CI − 29; − 10] was observed following soccer training, which manifested in increased (P < 0.001) mitral valve E/A ratio of 34% [95% CI 16; 53] in SOC. No within-group changes were apparent in CON. Conclusion: In sedentary, mildly hypertensive, middle-aged women, 15 weeks of soccer training increases left ventricular mass and left atrial diameter and improves indices of left ventricular diastolic function. Background: Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence is a rare complication of monochorionic multiple gestation pregnancies, in which the pump twin provides hemodynamic support to a nonviable co-twin (acardius). Fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to detect pump twin abnormalities, particularly brain ischemia, prior to fetal intervention to interrupt umbilical blood flow to the acardius. Objective: To summarize the imaging findings of TRAP sequence pregnancies in a large series. Materials and methods: A single-center retrospective review was performed of all TRAP sequence pregnancies referred for fetal MRI (2004–2021). Fetal MRI, ultrasound, and echocardiography data were collected. Results: Eighty-eight TRAP sequence pregnancies with MRI were included (mean gestational age, 19.8±2.8 weeks). Demise of the pump twin was noted in two pregnancies at the time of MRI. By MRI, 12% (10/86) of live pump twins had abnormalities, including 3% (3/86) with brain abnormalities and 9% (8/86) with extra-cranial abnormalities. By echocardiography, 7% (6/86) of pump twins had structural cardiac abnormalities. Three acardius morphological subtypes were identified by MRI: acephalus (55%, 48/88), anceps (39%, 34/88), and amorphous (7%, 6/88). The mean ultrasound acardius to pump twin ratio A/P ratio, calculated for each twin pair as the ratio of the acardius trunk (and head, if present) plus limb volume to the pump twin estimated fetal weight) differed among the three acardius subtypes (P=.03). The mean A/P ratio moderately correlated with pump twin cardiothoracic ratio and combined cardiac output (Pearson's r=0.45 and 0.48, respectively, both P<.001). Conclusion: Fetal MRI of TRAP sequence pregnancies found anomalies in a substantial number of pump twins. Background: We aimed to investigate the impact of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) on carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) & left ventricular dysfunction (LVD) which are the independent predictors of subclinical atherosclerosis. Methods: To assess the change in CIMT & echocardiographic parameters of left ventricular function & correlate with %EWL 6 months and 12 months after LSG, the mean CIMT of bilateral common carotid arteries were measured at 3 different places & 7 parameters were assessed for left ventricular dysfunction after 6 and 12 months of LSG & correlated with the %EWL. Results: A total of 30 patients (27(90%) women & 3(10%) men) with the mean age of 38 ± 7.84 were prospectively enrolled. BMI was significantly reduced from 42.66 ± 3.79 to 37.93 ± 3.60 kg/m2 at six months to 36 ± 3.34 at 12 months after LSG. CIMT values were significantly decreased at 6 months after surgery from 0.50 ± 0.11 mm to 0.46 ± 0.09 mm (p < 0.01) to 0.39 ± 0.07 (p < 0.05) at 12 months. However, no significant change was observed in the right mean CCA values at 6 months after surgery 0.50 ± 0.11 mm vs 0.47 ± 0.09 mm (p = 0.07) as compared to decrease at 12 months after surgery to 0.40 ± 0.08 (p < 0.05). Left mean CCA values at 6 months changed from 0.50 ± 0.11 to 0.45 ± 0.09 (p < 0.01) and at 12 months after surgery to 0.39 ± 007(p < 0.05). On 2D ECHO, ejection fraction increased at 6 months from 60.80 ± 5.89 to 61.93 ± 4.47 (p < 0.5) to after 12 months at 64.30 ± 4.20 (p < 0.05). Wave deceleration time changed at 6 months from 170 ± 36.80 to 150 ± 28.82 (p < 0.05) to 12 months 139.07 ± 17.98 (p < 0.05). Peak early diastolic mitral annular velocity (e) changed at 6 months from 8.12 ± 1.66 to 7.02 ± 1.76 (p < 0.05) to 12 months 6.33 ± 0.76 (p < 0.05). Inter-ventricular septum thickness (IVSD) changed at 6 months from 0.99 ± 0.14 to 0.91 ± 0.14 (p < 0.05) to 12 months 0.82 ± 0.09 (p < 0.05). PwD at 6 and 12 months changed from 1.00 ± 0.19 to 0.87 ± 0.10 (p < 0.01) to 0.82 ± 0.08 (p < 0.05) respectively. LV mass changed in 6 months from 148.37 ± 33.09 to 117 ± 29.90 (p < 0.001) to 12 months at 110.64 ± 20.79 (p < 0.05) and left ventricular mass index [LVMI] changed in 6 months from 70 ± 16.89 to 59.626 ± 15.35 (p < 0.001) reaching a value of 57.53 ± 11.18 (p < 0.05) at 12 months. The mean 10-year risk of death due to CVD calculated was significantly reduced from 5.45 ± 6.6 to 2.8 ± 1.7% at 6 months (p < 0.05). This significant decrease in CVD risk has a positive correlation with the decrease in CIMT over 6 months showing a correlation coefficient of 0.018 with statistically significant analysis (p value < 0.05). Conclusion: We observed a significant reduction in CIMT & improvement in 2D ECHO parameters at 6 after LSG although no statistically significant change was observed in mean right CIMT & EF at 6 months. Aims: Digoxin has been used in the treatment for heart failure for centuries, but the role of this drug in the modern era is controversial. A particular concern is the recent observational findings suggesting an increase in all-cause mortality with digoxin, although such observations suffer from biased results since these studies usually do not provide adequate compensation for the severity of disease. Using a nationwide registry database, we aimed to investigate whether digoxin is associated with 1-year all-cause mortality in patients with heart failure irrespective of phenotype. Methods: A total of 1014 out of 1054 patients in the registry, of whom 110 patients were on digoxin, were included in the study. Multivariable adjustments were done and propensity scores were calculated for various prognostic indicators, including signs and symptoms of heart failure and functional capacity. Crude mortality, mortality adjusted for covariates, mortality in the propensity score-matched cohort, and Bayesian factors (BFs) were analyzed. Results: Crude 1-year mortality rate did not differ between patients on and off digoxin (17.3% vs 20.1%, log-rank p = 0.46), and digoxin was not related to mortality following multivariable adjustment (hazard ratio 0.87, 95% confidence interval 0.539–1.402, p = 0.57). Similarly, all-cause mortality was similar in 220 propensity-score adjusted patients (17.3% vs 20.0%, log-rank p = 0.55). On Bayesian analyses, there was moderate to strong evidence suggesting a lack of difference between in unmatched cohort (BF10 0.091) and weak-to-moderate evidence in the matched cohort (BF10 0.296). Although the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of long COVID condition are still debated, there is growing evidence that autonomic dysfunction may play a role in the long-term complications or persisting symptoms observed in a significant proportion of patients after SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, studies focused on autonomic dysfunction have primarily been conducted in adults, while autonomic function has not yet been investigated in pediatric subjects. In this study, for the first time, we assessed whether pediatric patients with long COVID present abnormalities in autonomic cardiac function. Fifty-six long COVID pediatric patients (mean age 10.3 ± 3.8 y) and 27 age-, sex-, and body surface area-matched healthy controls (mean age 10.4 ± 4.5y) underwent a standard 12-lead electrocardiography (ECG) and 24-h ECG Holter monitoring. Autonomic cardiac function was assessed by time-domain and frequency-domain heart rate variability parameters. A comprehensive echocardiographic study was also obtained by two-dimensional echocardiography and tissue Doppler imaging. Data analysis showed that pediatric patients with long COVID had significant changes in HRV variables compared to healthy controls: significantly lower r-MSSD (root mean square of successive RR interval differences, 47.4 ± 16.9 versus 60.4 ± 29.1, p = 0.02), significant higher values VLF (very low frequency, 2077.8 ± 1023.3 versus 494.3 ± 1015.5 ms, p = 0.000), LF (low frequency, 1340.3 ± 635.6 versus 354.6 ± 816.8 ms, p = 0.000), and HF (high frequency, 895.7 ± 575.8 versus 278.9 ± 616.7 ms, p = 0.000). No significant differences were observed between the two groups both in systolic and diastolic parameters by echocardiography. Conclusion: These findings suggest that pediatric patients with long COVID have an imbalance of cardiac autonomic function toward a relative predominance of parasympathetic tone, as already reported in adult patients with long COVID. Further studies are needed to clarify the clinical significance of this autonomic dysfunction and demonstrate its role as a pathophysiological mechanism of long COVID, paving the way for effective therapeutic and preventive strategies. Bedside ultrasound represents a well-suited diagnostic and monitoring tool for patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) who may be too unstable for transport to other hospital areas for diagnostic tests. The role of ultrasound, however, starts even before ECMO initiation. Every patient considered for ECMO should have a thorough ultrasonographic assessment of cardiac and valvular function, as well as vascular anatomy without delaying ECMO cannulation. The role of pre-ECMO ultrasound is to confirm the indication for ECMO, identify clinical situations for which ECMO is not indicated, rule out contraindications, and inform the choice of ECMO configuration. During ECMO cannulation, the use of vascular and cardiac ultrasound reduces the risk of complications and ensures adequate cannula positioning. Ultrasound remains key for monitoring during ECMO support and troubleshooting ECMO complications. For instance, ultrasound is helpful in the assessment of drainage insufficiency, hemodynamic instability, biventricular function, persistent hypoxemia, and recirculation on venovenous (VV) ECMO. Lung ultrasound can be used to monitor signs of recovery on VV ECMO. Brain ultrasound provides valuable diagnostic and prognostic information on ECMO. Echocardiography is essential in the assessment of readiness for liberation from venoarterial (VA) ECMO. Lastly, post decannulation ultrasound mainly aims at identifying post decannulation thrombosis and vascular complications. The prognosis of patients with embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) may vary according to the underlying cause. Therefore, we aimed to divide ESUS into subtypes and assess the long-term outcomes. Consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke who underwent a comprehensive workup, including transesophageal echocardiography and prolonged electrocardiography monitoring, were enrolled. We classified ESUS into minor cardioembolic (CE) ESUS, arteriogenic ESUS, two or more causes ESUS, and no cause ESUS. Arteriogenic ESUS was sub-classified into complex aortic plaque (CAP) ESUS and non-stenotic (< 50%) relevant artery plaque (NAP) ESUS. A total of 775 patients were enrolled. During 1286 ± 748 days follow-up, 116 major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) occurred (4.2 events/100 patient-years). Among the ESUS subtypes, CAP ESUS was associated with the highest MACE frequency (9.7/100 patient-years, p = 0.021). Cox regression analyses showed that CAP ESUS was associated with MACE (hazard ratio 2.466, 95% confidence interval 1.305–4.660) and any stroke recurrence (hazard ratio 2.470, 95% confidence interval, 1.108–5.508). The prognosis of ESUS varies according to the subtype, with CAP ESUS having the worst prognosis. Categorizing ESUS into subtypes could improve patient care and refine clinical trials. Echocardiographic assessment of left ventricular function is crucial in NICU. The study aimed to compare the accuracy and agreement of global longitudinal strain (GLS) with conventional measurements. Real-life echocardiograms of neonates receiving intensive care were retrospectively reviewed. Shortening fraction (SF), ejection fraction (EF) and S' measurements were retrieved from health records. GLS was calculated offline from stored images. The association with stroke volume indexed for body weight (iSV) was evaluated by regression analysis. The diagnostic ability to identify uncompensated shock was assessed by ROC curve analysis. Cohen's κ was run to assess agreement. 334 echocardiograms of 155 neonates were evaluated. Mean ± SD gestational age and birth weight were 34.5 ± 4.1 weeks and 2264 ± 914 g, respectively. SF, EF, S' and GLS were associated with iSV with R2 of 0.133, 0.332, 0.252 and 0.633, (all p <.001). Including all variables in a regression model, iSV prediction showed an adjusted R2 of 0.667, (p <.001). GLS explained 73% of the model variance. GLS showed a better ability to diagnose uncompensated shock (AUC 0.956) compared to EF, S' and SF (AUC 0.757, 0.737 and 0.606, respectively). GLS showed a moderate agreement with EF (κ =.500, p <.001) and a limited agreement with S' and SF (κ =.260, p <.001, κ =.242, p <.001). Background: Left atrial strain (LAS) is a measure of atrial wall deformation during cardiac cycle and reflects atrial contribution to cardiovascular performance. Pathophysiological significance of LAS in critically ill patients with hemodynamic instability has never been explored. This study aimed at describing LAS and its variation during volume expansion and to assess the relationship between LAS components and fluid responsiveness. Methods: This prospective observational study was performed in a French ICU and included patients with acute circulatory failure, for whom the treating physician decided to proceed to volume expansion (rapid infusion of 500 mL of crystalloid solution). Trans-thoracic echocardiography was performed before and after the fluid infusion. LAS analysis was performed offline. Fluid responsiveness was defined as an increase in velocity-time integral (VTI) of left ventricular outflow tract ≥ 10%. Results: Thirty-eight patients were included in the final analysis. Seventeen (45%) patients were fluid responders. LAS analysis had a good feasibility and reproducibility. Overall, LAS was markedly reduced in all its components, with values of 19 [15 – 32], -9 [-19 – -7] and − 9 [-13 – -5] % for LAS reservoir (LASr), conduit (LAScd) and contraction (LASct), respectively. LASr, LAScd and LASct significantly increased during volume expansion in the entire population. Baseline value of LAS did not predict fluid responsiveness and the changes in LAS and VTI during volume expansion were not significantly correlated. Conclusions: LAS is severely altered during acute circulatory failure. LAS components significantly increase during fluid administration, but cannot be used to predict or assess fluid responsiveness. A 3-year-old female patient with no significant medical history presented to her pediatrician with foamy urine. Initial testing revealed moderate proteinuria on qualitative testing, although she was incidentally noted to have severe hypertension (240/200 mmHg). Physical examination of the carotid and femoral areas revealed significant systolic vascular murmurs. Labs showed elevated serum creatinine, hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis, elevated renin and aldosterone and hypercalciuria. Echocardiography identified ventricular hypertrophy. Computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen and magnetic resonance angiography of the head showed multiple tortuous or interrupted arteries and multiple calcifications in the renal sinus area. B-mode ultrasonography suggested thickening of the carotid and femoral artery walls, with numerous spotted calcifications. Genetic testing revealed that ABCC6 had a complex heterozygous mutation (exon 24: c.3340C > T and intron 30: c.4404-1G > A). Our panel of experts reviewed the evaluation of this patient with hypertension, proteinuria, hypercalciuria, and vascular abnormalities as well as the diagnosis and appropriate management of a rare disease. Background: In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) increases with disease progression. CVD screening tests in those with CKD were researched to determine whether abnormalities observed in electrocardiography (ECG) and ultrasonic echocardiography (UCG) were risk factors associated with the development of CVD. Methods: This study included 604 patients with CKD G4 and G5, for whom both ECG and UCG were performed. They were divided into four groups: those without ECG- and UCG-indicated abnormalities (group A, n = 333), with only ECG abnormalities (group B, n = 106), with only UCG abnormalities (group C, n = 75), and with both ECG and UCG abnormalities (group D, n = 90). Multivariate analysis using Cox regression analysis of the occurrence of CVD was performed during a follow-up period. Results: During the observation period, 124 patients had clinical events. Among them, 45 patients (13.5%) were in Group A, 25 patients (23.6%) in Group B, 19 patients (25.3%) in Group C, and 35 patients (38.9%) in Group D, respectively. CVD event occurrence was highest in Group D. The results of the multivariate analysis also showed that the CVD event rates were significantly higher in Group C (HR: 2.96, P = <.001) and D (HR: 4.22, P <.001) than in Group A. Conclusion: In patients with advanced CKD, there was a significant correlation of ECG and UCG abnormalities with CVD events. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) commonly involves cardiac injury with both systolic and diastolic dysfunction. Left atrial strain (LAS) detects subclinical diastolic dysfunction in adults but is infrequently used in children. We evaluated LAS in MIS-C and the associations with systemic inflammation and cardiac injury. In this retrospective cohort study, LAS parameters [reservoir (LAS-r), conduit (LAS-cd), and contractile (LAS-ct)] obtained from admission echocardiograms of MIS-C patients were compared to healthy controls and between MIS-C patients with and without cardiac injury (BNP > 500 pg/ml or troponin-I > 0.04 ng/ml). Correlation and logistic regression analyses were performed to assess LAS associations with admission inflammatory and cardiac biomarkers. Reliability testing was performed. We identified 118 patients with MIS-C and 20 healthy controls. Median LAS parameters were reduced in MIS-C patients compared to controls (LAS-r: 31.8 vs. 43.1%, p < 0.001; LAS-cd: − 28.8 vs. − 34.5%, p = 0.006; LAS-ct: − 5.2 vs. − 9.3%, p < 0.001) and reduced in MIS-C patients with cardiac injury (n = 59) compared to no injury (n = 59) (LAS-r: 29.6 vs. 35.8%, p = 0.001; LAS-cd: − 26.5 vs. − 30.4%, p = 0.036; LAS-ct: − 4.6 vs. − 9.3%, p = 0.008). A discrete LAS-ct peak was absent in 65 (55%) MIS-C patients but present in all controls (p < 0.001). Procalcitonin correlated strongly with averaged E/e' (r = 0.55, p = 0.001). Moderate correlations were found for ESR and LAS-ct (r = − 0.41, p = 0.007) as well as BNP and LAS-r (r = − 0.39, p < 0.001) and LAS-ct (r = 0.31, p = 0.023). Troponin-I had only weak correlations. Intra-rater reliability was good for all LAS parameters, and inter-rater reliability was good to excellent for LAS-r, and fair for LAS-cd and LAS-ct. LAS analysis, particularly the absence of a LAS-ct peak, was reproducible and may be superior to conventional echocardiographic parameters for detecting diastolic dysfunction in MIS-C. Pulmonary balloon valvuloplasty (PBV) is the treatment of choice for subjects with isolated pulmonary valve stenosis (IPS). The purpose of this study was to define fetal echocardiographic features associated with an inpatient PBV prior to newborn hospital discharge and characterize resource utilization of IPS fetuses among participating centers. Six center, retrospective case series of singleton fetuses identified between 2010 and 2020 with IPS. Third-trimester echocardiogram data was compared with postnatal data, included pulmonary valve Doppler velocities, pulmonary valve insufficiency and ductus arteriosus flow direction. Comparison between subjects who underwent inpatient PBV during their newborn hospital admission versus those infants referred for outpatient PBV after initial hospital discharge. We analyzed data by logistic regression, student t test and Chi-Square testing with a p value of ≤ 0.05 considered statistically significant. Forty-nine IPS fetuses were identified. Thirty-eight (78%) underwent inpatient PBV at 5 (range 1–58) days and 11 (22%) underwent outpatient PBV at 51.8 (11–174) days. Newborns requiring an inpatient PBV were more likely to have one or more characteristics on 3rd-trimester fetal echocardiogram: left to right or bidirectional ductus arteriosus flow (61% vs 0%), and/or a peak pulmonary valve velocity > 3.0 m/s (odds ratio 16.9, 95% confidence interval 3.02–94.17) with a sensitivity of 90.4% and specificity of 97.7%. Ductus arteriosus flow direction and pulmonary valve peak velocity in the 3rd trimester can successfully predict the need for newborn inpatient PBV. To report the prevalence of coarctation of the aorta (CoA) in fetuses with single left superior vena cava (SL-SVC) and to evaluate changes in echocardiographic measurements. Additionally, to report the prevalence of associated malformations. Retrospective observational study of fetuses diagnosed with SL-SVC between 2012 and 2021 at a tertiary fetal cardiology unit. In fetuses without intracardiac abnormalities, Z-scores of the ventricles, great arteries, and Doppler flow patterns are reported. We identified 47 fetuses with SL-SVC of which 8/47 (17%) had abnormal intracardiac anatomy. One fetus was lost to follow-up. Of those with normal intracardiac anatomy and postnatal follow-up (38), karyotype abnormalities were confirmed in 2/38 (5%) and ECA in 8/38 (21%). 33/38 were live-born. None developed CoA postnatally. Paired analysis of Z-scores between early and late scans of 24 fetuses showed that diameters of the right heart structures and Doppler flows of tricuspid valve increased significantly during pregnancy, while the left heart structures and flow patterns did not change. The median risk of CoA did not change between the early and the late scan. We did not observe CoA in this cohort. A degree of ventricular asymmetry was present, but this was due to right heart dominance rather than hypoplasia of left heart structures. This likely reflects redistribution of blood and does not appear to confer increased risk of CoA. Atrial septal defects (ASDs) are common in neonates. Although past studies suggest ASDs ≥ 3 mm in term neonates (TNs) are less likely to close, there is paucity of data regarding the natural history in preterm neonates (PNs), information that would inform surveillance. We sought to compare spontaneous closure rates and need for intervention for ASDs in TNs/near term (≥ 36 weeks) versus PNs (< 36 weeks). We included all TNs and PNs who underwent echocardiography at ≤ 1 month between 2010 and 2018 in our institution with an ASD ≥ 3 mm, without major congenital heart disease, and with repeat echocardiogram(s). Spontaneous resolution was defined as size diminution to < 3 mm or closure. We included 156 TNs (mean gestational age at birth 38.6 ± 1.4 weeks) and 156 PNs (29.6 ± 3.7 weeks) with a mean age at follow-up of 16 ± 19 and 15 ± 21 months, respectively (p = 0.76). Based on maximum color Doppler diameter, in TNs, ASD resolution occurred in 95% of small (3–5 mm), 87% of moderate (5.1–8 mm), and 60% of large (> 8 mm) defects; whereas, in PNs, resolution occurred in 79% of small, 76% of moderate, and 33% of large ASDs. There was a significant association between size and ASD resolution in TNs (p = 0.003), but not PNs (p = 0.17). Overall, ASD resolution rate was higher in TNs (89%) versus PNs (78%) (p = 0.009), and fewer TNs (1%) compared to PNs (7%) required ASD intervention (p = 0.02). Most ASDs identified in TNs and PNs spontaneously resolve. PNs, however, demonstrate lower ASD resolution and higher intervention rates within all size groups. By utilizing multimodality advanced imaging, including 2D and 3D echo, computed tomography (CTA) with semi-transparent overlay as a road map, we were able to preoperatively plan camera angles and device selection as well as close the defect percutaneously under echocardiography guidance. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) has been demonstrated to be an efficient way of improving physical performance in adolescent athletes compared to conventional training modalities. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of HIIT on the myocardial function of adolescent athletes, specifically focusing on left ventricular (LV) function, using conventional echocardiography and layer-specific strain (LSS) analysis. A total of 19 male adolescent athletes (with mean age of 16.83 ± 1.29 years) participating in various football clubs were recruited for this study. During the course of 8 weeks, these adolescent male athletes engaged in HIIT program centered around running. Upon completion of HIIT program, a treadmill exercise test was conducted. Subsequently, conventional and LSS echocardiography were conducted to acquire the evaluation of LV myocardial function. Interventricular septum thickness and ventricular mass index were significantly increased post high-intensity interval training (p < 0.005). After the HIIT, the treadmill exercise test demonstrated a significant increase in test duration and metabolic equivalent compared to the pre-training values (p < 0.005). Post high-intensity interval training, LSS analysis revealed significantly improved LV circumferential strain values in the basal and mid-segments of the left ventricle when compared to the pre-training measurements (p < 0.005). The implementation of high-intensity interval training led to an enhancement of circumferential LSS in the LV, indicating a favorable physiological adaptation and improved efficiency of the myocardium.
