A selective and reliable modified glassy carbon sensor, based on a 1.0% Cd zeolitic imidazole framework-67 modified glassy carbon sensor (GCS2), has been developed for ultrasensitive detection of dimethyl methyl phosphonate (DMMP) in human biological fluid. The synthesis of porous nanoparticles of Cd zeolitic imidazole framework-67 (Cd ZIF-67) was carried out via the hydrothermal method. The resulting Cd ZIF-67 powder emerges with good crystallinity, a rhombic dodecahedral morphology with particle size in the range 300 ~ 500 nm, and a specific surface area of 1780 m2·g−1. Furthermore, the fabricated sensor exhibited superior performance in the detection of DMMP with two linearity ranges of 0.02–2.0 nM and 2.0–9.0 nM and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.06 pM. The fabricated sensor exhibited good reliability, long-term stability, and repeatability, which are favourable attributes for electroanalytical detection. In addition, the fabricated sensor displayed superior performance without significant interference during the assay of DMMP in a biological fluid (human serum sample) within two linearity ranges of 0.1–1.0 nM and 1.0–6.0 nM and a LOD of 0.03 nM. Zinc-Imidazole coordination polymer (ZnImCP) was simply synthesized hydrothermally at relatively low temperature (70 °C) from zinc acetate and imidazole. ZnImCP was treated by sulfide solution to produce sulfur-doped samples (S-ZnImCPs). Structures of the synthesized ZnImCP and S-ZnImCPs were characterized through FTIR, PXRD, and, Raman, SEM/EDX, N2-BET, UV–VIS DRS, and pHpzc analyses. The photocatalytic performances of pristine CP and sulfur modified CPs under visible and ultra-violet irradiations for degrading the cationic methylene blue (MB) and the anionic methyl orange (MO) were investigated considering different initial pH values 4, 7 and 10. Under visible light, the results indicate that these CPs display considerable photocatalytic degradation towards the cationic MB for the initial pH 4 and 7 where degradation increases with sulfur content. While under ultra-violet, results indicate considerable photocatalytic degradation towards both dyes for the initial pH 7 and 10 where degradation increases with sulfur content which indicates the gainful of non-metal dopping. The buffering nature of CPs and the type of radiation considering determined band-gap values effectively influence the degradation mechanisms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The buffering Cadmium–Imidazole Coordination Polymer (Cd–Im-CP) was synthesized hydrothermally from cadmium chloride and imidazole at 70 °C and then was subjected to doping- by the non-metal sulfur using Na2S solution as a novel modification strategy to produce S–Cd–Im CPs. To investigate doping nature and its effects, Cd–Im CP and S–Cd–Im CPs were characterized applying different analyses techniques, FTIR, Raman, PXRD, SEM/EDX, TGA, and UV–Vis DRS analyses. Characterizations showed the successful chemical doping of sulfur. The inclusion of sulfur within chemical CP structure caused narrowing of material's bandgap from 4.55 and 3.4 eV to 4.25 and 2.35 eV for S–Cd–Im CPs allowing it for photoresponse towards Visible-light. Both Cd–Im CP and S–Cd–Im CPs were applied for photocatalytic degradation of the selected dyes methylene blue (MB),and methyl orange (MO) employing visible and UV irradiations considering three different initial pH levels to investigate the consequence of sulfur doping. After eliminating the photolysis effect, the best degradation by S–Cd–Im CPs was recorded for MB at initial pH 4 being 13 fold that is for Cd–Im CP. The highest apparent turnover frequencies are 1.2 × 10−3 h−1 for MB at initial pH 10 and 1.03 × 10−4 h−1 for MO at initial pH 4 are given by 10S–Cd–IM CP under Visible-light. Generally, S–Cd–Im CPs remarkably improved photocatalysis degradation of both the dyes for all initial pH levels under Visible-light. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are a group of porous materials that display potential in the elimination of toxic industrial compounds (TICs) from polluted water streams. However, their applications have so far been held up by issues due to their physical nature and cost. In this study, activated carbon (AC) is modified with an Fe-based MOF, iron terephthalate (Fe-BDC). A facile and cost-effective impregnation method is used for enhanced removal from aqueous solutions. The new adsorbent is characterized by SEM, FTIR, PXRD, and BET. The composite displays excellent uptake of Cr (VI) when compared to un-impregnated AC with a maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 100 mg·g−1. The experimental data shows a high correlation to the Langmuir adsorption model. The adsorption kinetic study reveals that the adsorption of Cr (VI) to Fe-BDC@AC obeys the pseudo-first-order equation. The composite shows high reusability after five cycles and high adsorption rates reaching equilibrium in just 50 min. Such properties make the nanocomposite promising for water decontamination on larger scales compared to powder-based alternatives, such as individual MOF crystals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
