Based on the two-band Bogoliubov–de Gennes theory, we study the boundary effect of an interface between a two-gap superconductor and an insulator (or vacuum). New boundary terms are introduced into the two-band Ginzburg–Landau free energy, which modifies the boundary conditions for the corresponding order parameters of the superconductor. A microscopic analysis of these terms is also given and the characteristic length scale of the boundary effect can be estimated. The theory allows for a simple calculation of the critical temperature suppression with the decrease in film thickness for the typical two-band superconductor magnesium diboride. Tea, which is processed by the tender shoots or leaves of tea plant (Camellia sinensis), is one of the most popular nonalcoholic beverages in the world and has numerous health benefits for humans. Along with new progress in biotechnologies, the refined chromosome-scale reference tea genomes have been achieved, which facilitates great promise for the understanding of fundamental genomic architecture and evolution of the tea plants. Here, we summarize recent achievements in genome sequencing in tea plants and review the new progress in origin and evolution of tea plants by population sequencing analysis. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) that establish reciprocal symbiosis with plant roots can enhance resistance to various stresses, including salt stress, but relevant mechanisms, especially at the molecular level, are scarce. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Paraglomus occultum on plant growth, leaf gas exchange, and expression of plasma membrane intrinsic proteins (PIPs), tonoplast intrinsic proteins (TIPs) and salt overly sensitive (SOS) genes in tomato under salt (150 mmol/L NaCl) and non-salt stress. Salt stress for 4 weeks inhibited root colonization rate of P. occultum and soil hyphal length by 0.21- and 0.57-fold, respectively. Salt stress also inhibited plant growth performance and leaf gas exchange, while inoculation with P. occultum significantly enhanced them under salt and non-salt stress conditions. AMF showed diverse regulation of root SlPIPs and SlTIPs expression, among which under salt stress, SlPIP1;2, SlPIP1;5, SlPIP2;1, SlPIP2;6, SlPIP2;9, SlPIP2;10, SlTIP2;2, SlTIP3;2, and SlTIP5;1 were up-regulated by AMF colonization, and SlPIP1;7, SlPIP2;5, SlPIP2;8, SlPIP2;11, SlPIP2;12, SlTIP2;3, and SlTIP3;1 were down-regulated, accompanied by no change in SlPIP1;1, SlPIP1;3, SlPIP2;4, SlTIP1;1, SlTIP1;2, SlTIP1;3, SlTIP2;1, and SlTIP2;5. Interestingly, salt stress inhibited the expression of SlSOS1 and SlSOS2 in non-mycorrhizal plants, while it increased the expression of SlSOS1 and SlSOS2 in mycorrhizal plants. AMF colonization down-regulated expression of SlSOS1 and SlSOS2 under non-salt stress while up-regulated expression of SlSOS1 and SlSOS2 under salt stress. With the constantly increasing demands of high energy density and long life span energy storage devices, people are looking for high-performance and safe anode materials as alternatives to replace graphite in lithium-ion batteries. A facile coprecipitation method has been developed to synthesize Ag/ZnMn2O4 (Ag/ZMO) hybrids with various weight ratios of Ag as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries. Electrochemical measurements indicate that the addition of Ag nanoparticles not only improves the conductivity of electrode material but also enhances the initial coulombic efficiency and the cycle stability of electrode materials. After 100 cycles at 100 mA g−1, the optimum Ag/ZMO hybrid can still maintain an ultra-high average capacity of 1300 mAh g−1. It is anticipated that our work may open up a new avenue to rapidly and massively produce various anode materials decorated with Ag nanoparticles for lithium-ion batteries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to extend the application of epoxy vitrimer, 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid (CHDA) was used as a co-curing agent and structure modifier for sebacic acid (SA) cured diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) epoxy vitrimer to tailor the mechanical properties of epoxy vitrimers with 1,5,7-triazabicylo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD) as a transesterification catalyst. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of vitrimer increased gradually with the increase in CHDA content. Vitrimers behaved from elastomer to tough and hard plastics were successfully achieved by varying the feed ratio of CHDA to SA. Both the Young’s modulus and storage modulus increased apparently with the increase in CHDA content. Stress relaxation measurement indicated that more prominent stress relaxation occurred at elevated temperatures and the stress relaxation decreased with the increase of CHDA content due to the reduced mobility of the vitrimer backbone. The vitrimers showed excellent recyclability as evidenced by the unchanged gel fraction and mechanical properties after compression molded for several times. This paper describes a parallel approach for the rapid generation of ultra-large-scale unstructured meshes on distributed-memory supercomputers. A medium-sized initial mesh is prepared first. Afterwards, a two-level domain decomposition (DD) strategy is used to split and distribute the initial mesh to different cores. Finally, the parallel mesh generation, comprising a recursive procedure which includes parallel surface recovery, parallel boundary updating, and parallel mesh multiplication, is performed. The two-level DD differentiates the intra-node and inter-node communication to reduce communication overheads. A global indexing and updating scheme is used to make the mesh multiplication devoid of communication. A new parallel surface recovery algorithm without communication is developed to maintain the fidelity of the resulting mesh model to the original geometric model. Tests of the parallel approach for some real-life problems on supercomputers (Dawning-5000A and Tianhe-2) are presented. Issues regarding the speedup, parallel efficiency, and mesh quality are discussed. Results show that the proposed parallel approach has a reasonably good scalability, that the quality of the resulting mesh is improved, and that ultra-large-scale meshes with billions of elements can be generated quickly. A new aporphine alkaloid, β-magnoflorine ( 1), together with a known aporphine alkaloid, α-magnoflorine ( 2), were isolated from the aerial parts of Clematis parviloba. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of comprehensive spectroscopic techniques. In addition, both compounds showed potent antifungal activities against Penicillium avellaneum UC-4376. The Hengduan Mountains (HDM) biodiversity hotspot exhibits exceptional alpine plant diversity. Here, we investigate factors driving intraspecific divergence within a HDM alpine species Salix brachista (Cushion willow), a common component of subnival assemblages. We produce a high-quality genome assembly for this species and characterize its genetic diversity, population structure and pattern of evolution by resequencing individuals collected across its distribution. We detect population divergence that has been shaped by a landscape of isolated sky island-like habitats displaying strong environmental heterogeneity across elevational gradients, combined with population size fluctuations that have occurred since approximately the late Miocene. These factors are likely important drivers of intraspecific divergence within Cushion willow and possibly other alpine plants with a similar distribution. Since intraspecific divergence is often the first step toward speciation, the same factors can be important contributors to the high alpine species diversity in the HDM. Exceptional alpine plant diversity exists in the Hengduan Mountains. Here, through genome assembly and population genomics studies, the authors find notable intraspecific divergence among Cushion willow populations isolated by the sky island-like habitats and consider it contributes to speciation and biodiversity. Thyroid ultrasound video provides significant value for thyroid diseases diagnosis, but the ultrasound imaging process is often affected by the speckle noise, resulting in poor quality of the ultrasound video. Numerous video denoising methods have been proposed to remove noise while preserving texture details. However, existing methods still suffer from the following problems: (1) relevant temporal features in the low-contrast ultrasound video cannot be accurately aligned and effectively aggregated by simple optical flow or motion estimation, resulting in the artifacts and motion blur in the video; (2) fixed receptive field in spatial features integration lacks the flexibility of aggregating features in the global region of interest and is susceptible to interference from irrelevant noisy regions. In this work, we propose a deformable spatial-temporal attention denoising network to remove speckle noise in thyroid ultrasound video. The entire network follows the bidirectional feature propagation mechanism to efficiently exploit the spatial-temporal information of the whole video sequence. In this process, two modules are proposed to address the above problems: (1) a deformable temporal attention module (DTAM) is designed after optical flow pre-alignment to further capture and aggregate relevant temporal features according to the learned offsets between frames, so that inter-frame information can be better exploited even with the imprecise flow estimation under the low contrast of ultrasound video; (2) a deformable spatial attention module (DSAM) is proposed to flexibly integrate spatial features in the global region of interest through the learned intra-frame offsets, so that irrelevant noisy information can be ignored and essential information can be precisely exploited. Finally, all these refined features are rectified and merged through residual convolution blocks to recover the clean video frames. Experimental results on our thyroid ultrasound video (US-V) dataset and the DDTI dataset demonstrate that our proposed method exceeds 1.2 ∼ 1.3 dB on PSNR and has clearer texture detail compared to other state-of-the-art methods. In the meantime, the proposed model can also assist thyroid nodule segmentation methods to achieve more accurate segmentation effect, which provides an important basis for thyroid diagnosis. In the future, the proposed model can be improved and extended to other medical image sequence datasets, including CT and MRI slice denoising.
