The article presents a case study of a patient who was diagnosed at the age of six weeks because of a confirmed family history for chronic granulomatous disease. The patient had a secondary graft failure and needed a second transplant using an unrelated cord blood graft. The patient's histology shows active fungal osteomyelitis and pulmonary infection with vital hyphae. The article discusses a case of successful broader application of SCT in patients lacking alternative therapeutic choices.
