Abstract Macrophages sense pathogens and orchestrate specific immune responses. Stimulus specificity is thought to be achieved through combinatorial and dynamical coding by signaling pathways. While NFκB dynamics are known to encode stimulus information, dynamical coding in other signaling pathways and their combinatorial coordination remain unclear. Here, we established live-cell microscopy to investigate how NFκB and p38 dynamics interface in stimulated macrophages. Information theory and machine learning revealed that p38 dynamics distinguish cytokine TNF from pathogen-associated molecular patterns and high doses from low, but contributed little to information-rich NFκB dynamics when both pathways are considered. This suggests that immune response genes benefit from decoding immune signaling dynamics or combinatorics, but not both. We found that the heterogeneity of the two pathways is surprisingly uncorrelated. Mathematical modeling revealed potential sources of uncorrelated heterogeneity in the branched pathway network topology and predicted it to drive gene expression variability. Indeed, genes dependent on both p38 and NFκB showed high scRNAseq variability and bimodality. These results identify combinatorial signaling as a mechanism to restrict NFκB-AND-p38-responsive inflammatory cytokine expression to few cells.

Abstract This work studies the traditional musical game as a didactic resource in the development of educational competencies in primary school students. The purpose of the study is to validate a scale for the evaluation of essential educational factors in the work of intrinsic competencies in traditional musical games. With a mixed design, the study involves a qualitative approach to the review and discussion of the contributions of social psychology theories: contact theory, cultural values theory, and attitude theory as well as a quantitative approach using an exploratory factor analysis, a parallel analysis and a confirmatory factor analysis of the use of traditional musical games in a sample of 276 primary school students. From an initial questionnaire of 30 items, a final questionnaire of 18 items was obtained, grouped into 4 subscales (Right to Play/Fun and Preferences/Choice of Game Partners/Emotion and Inclusion) derived from the theories of social psychology. The results demonstrate the need for effective tools to measure the educational value of traditional games. This scale could serve as a tool to contribute to the educational research on traditional musical games. Finally, the educational implications that the adoption of traditional games in the classroom can have in terms of integration, equal inclusion, and the social, physical, emotional, and cognitive development of primary school students are discussed.

Abstract This paper explores the Spanish film industry to analyze the evolution of Spanish movie theater revenues up to December 2021 using both aggregated and disaggregated data by area of origin. Based on fractional integration methods, the results showed a change in persistence in the series as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Lower degrees of persistence are observed in the aggregated data and in the series related with the US, implying shorter effects of shocks in these cases. Nevertheless, a substantial increase in persistence after the Covid-19 is observed in all series.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a programme aimed at improving social and emotional competencies among pupils registered in Basic Vocational Education and Training (VET) from disadvantaged contexts. The sample consisted of 110 first-year pupils (55 experimental group and 55 control group) from three Basic VET programmes delivered in an educational centre. Social and emotional learning was assessed using the Social and Emotional Learning Scale. After assigning each classroom group of each Basic VET programme to the experimental or control condition, the programme was implemented during a whole scholar year. This intervention was carried out by a team of previously trained teachers and educators and embedded in the school curriculum. The results show large effect sizes and statistically significant differences in favour of the experimental group in social and emotional competencies. These promising results suggest considering this SEL intervention as an example of an evidence-based programme.

Abstract Environmental monitoring and long-term research produce detailed understanding, but its collective effort does not add up to ‘the environment’ and therefore may be difficult to relate to. Local knowledge, by contrast, is multifaceted and relational and therefore can help ground and complement scientific knowledge to reach a more complete and holistic understanding of the environment and changes therein. Today’s societies, however, are increasingly fleeting, with mobility potentially undermining the opportunity to generate rich community knowledge. Here we perform a case study of High Arctic Svalbard, a climate change and environmental science hotspot, using a range of community science methods, including a Maptionnaire survey, focus groups, interviews and cognitive mapping. We show that rich local knowledge on Svalbard could indeed be gathered through community science methods, despite a high level of transience of the local population. These insights complement environmental monitoring and enhance its local relevance. Complex understanding of Svalbard’s ecosystems by the transient local community arose because of strong place attachment, enabling environmental knowledge generation during work and play. We conclude that transience does not necessarily prevent the generation of valuable local knowledge that can enrich and provide connection to scientific understanding of the environment.

Abstract Social media platforms are becoming an increasingly important venue for public debate. Twitch, in particular, is a popular streaming platform that targets young adults. Originally created for online video game players, the platform also includes other types of content, such as politics, leisure, and science. Here, we present a study that examines climate change discourse on this understudied platform. Unlike previous studies, this work does not only focus on users’ reactions to streamer discourse but, using an ad-hoc methodology, also analyzes the content of the videos. Indeed, an added value of this research is the development of an objective evaluation based on automatic speech recognition (ASP) and natural language processing (NLP). We found that Twitch is an emergent locus for climate discussion with a thriving community of young users interested in the topic. Our findings challenge the understanding of social media discourse on climate change and suggest that platform architecture and intended commercial goals do not play a decisive role in shaping the topics circulating on them. In contrast, our findings support the idea that public discussion on climate change percolates through technology. In other words, the public debate finds its way across existing channels rather than being constrained by them. The research also contributes to the literature by expanding the empirical base for the study of online communication about climate change, especially among young audiences.

Abstract The main feature of the current business reality is the speed of the changes in the environment and the uncertainty they generate. Among these changes, those which stand out for their importance are the ones related to the current digital revolution, which is changing, in a very short period of time, the companies’ business models. From this perspective, and based on panel data for the 2009–2020 period, the study seeks to examine in depth the technological and innovative factors which are related to the entrepreneurial density in euro area countries, with special emphasis on self-employed entrepreneurs. The results obtained show that greater robotization of industrial activities generates entrepreneurial opportunities, while investment in R&D by companies is negatively related to entrepreneurial activity. It is also noteworthy that public investment in R&D and the greater volume of employment in scientific-technological sectors has not been significant in the generation of entrepreneurial opportunities. These conclusions make it possible to identify economic policies to promote entrepreneurial activity, such as training and the generation of a favorable environment for digital innovation and artificial intelligence, but also the incentive for intrapreneurial activity in companies that invest in R&D.

Abstract This study aims to examine the impact of the different waves of the COVID-19 pandemic on the connectedness of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) term structure of interest rates and its components (level, slope and curvature). For that purpose, this research applies the time-varying parameter vector autoregression (TVP-VAR) approach in order to assess the direction of spillovers among countries and factors and measure their contribution to the connectedness system. Our results show that the total connectedness measure changes over time, and the level and curvature components show connectedness that persists longer than the slope component, both in the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Brazil and South Africa would appear as net transmitters of shocks, whereas China and India are net receivers. Finally, the most significant differences in the net dynamic connectedness between transmitters and receivers were focused on before and during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Some additional impacts were observed during the last waves of the coronavirus pandemic. To our best knowledge, this is the first study on the connectedness between the yield curves of the BRICS economies and the COVID-19 crisis uncertainty according to the coronavirus MCI, by decomposing the yield curve into its factors (level, slope, and curvature).

Freshwater macroinvertebrates can connect tropical forests and stream food webs by consuming both terrestrially and aquatically produced foods, but direct observations of nocturnal feeding behavior in these natural ecosystems are rare. Observational data on decapods feeding behavior are limited partly because they are cryptic and often forage at night to avoid predators and competitors. We hypothesized that freshwater decapods forage on riparian fruit fall based on its relatively high energy and nutrient content. We used underwater cameras to video record night-time foraging under dim red light. Palm fruits (Acrocomia aculeata (Jacq.) Lodd. ex Mart.) were added to determine rates of feeding responses among crabs (Silviocarcinus australis Magalhães and Turkay, 1996) and shrimp (Macrobrachium amazonicum Heller, 1862) in a spring-fed, clear-water stream in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Within 30 min, shrimp located the fruit, and within 60 min, crabs began shredding the pulp of the palm fruit. Crabs fed on the palm fruits, on average five times longer than shrimp and produced pieces of palm fruit pulp that some shrimp consumed without aggressively interacting with the crab. Small fish also consumed some palm pulp particles. This interaction network is an example of fruit-fall processing based on indirect facilitation among different types of consumers. Long COVID has been linked to a decline in physical activity and functional capacity. However, it remains unclear which physical symptoms are associated with specific aspects of movement behaviors and functional capacity. We aimed to investigate the associations of fatigue, dyspnea, post-exertional malaise, myalgia, and the co-occurrence of symptoms with movement behaviors and functional capacity in individuals with Long COVID. A cross-sectional multicenter study was conducted. Questionnaires were used to assess fatigue, dyspnea, post-exertional malaise, and myalgia. Accelerometry was employed to assess sedentary time, steps per day, light physical activity, and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. The six-minute walk test, 30-s chair stand test, and timed up and go were used to assess functional capacity. One hundred and two community-dwelling individuals who had been living with Long COVID for 15 ± 10 months participated in the study. Fatigue, post-exertional malaise, and the co-occurrence of physical symptoms showed a negative association with step count, while post-exertional malaise was also negatively associated with moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. Dyspnea showed a negative association with the functional score, including all tests. Our findings suggest that fatigue, post-exertional malaise, and the co-occurrence of physical symptoms are negatively associated with physical activity, while dyspnea is negatively associated with functional capacity in individuals with Long COVID. Background: Granular Cell Tumor (GCT) is an uncommon benign lesion in the oral cavity whose pathogenesis remains poorly understood. Due to their infrequent occurrence and similarity to other oral lesions, they are often forgotten during the initial clinical diagnosis. Therefore, understanding its prevalence, clinical and pathological characteristics is crucial for an accurate diagnosis and adequate management. Methods: All cases diagnosed as GCTs in six Brazilian and Argentinian oral diagnostic centers were re-evaluated by HE staining, and clinical, demographic, and histopathological data were collected and evaluated. Results: The series comprised 45 female (73.8%) and 16 male (26.2%), with a 2.8:1 female-to-male ratio and a mean age of 35.3 ± 16.9 years (range: 7–77 years). Most cases occurred on the tongue (n = 49; 81.6%) and presented clinically as asymptomatic papules or nodules (n = 50; 89.3%) with a normochromic (n = 25; 45.5%) or yellowish (n = 11; 20.0%) coloration and sizes ranging from 0.2 to 3.0 cm (mean ± SD: 1.40 ± 0.75 cm). Morphologically, most tumors were characterized by a poorly delimited proliferation (n = 52; 88.1%) of cells typically rounded to polygonal containing abundant, eosinophilic, finely granular cytoplasm. Pustulo-ovoid bodies of Milian were identified in all lesions (n = 61; 100%). Entrapment of skeletal striated muscle (n = 44; 72.1%) and nerve fibers (n = 42; 68.9%) were common findings. Pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia (PEH) was observed in 23 cases (39.0%). In only 27.7% of cases (n = 13) there was agreement between the clinical and histopathological diagnosis. Outcome information was available from 16 patients (26.2%), with clinical follow-up ranging from 4 to 36 months (mean 13.3 months), and none developed local recurrence. Conclusions: The clinical and histopathological features of GCTs were consistent with those described in previous studies. In general, these lesions have a predilection for the lateral region of the tongue in adult women. It is essential to consider GCTs in the differential diagnosis of yellow or normochromic papules and nodules in the oral cavity. Background: The potential ecosystem collapse of forests in Mediterranean-type ecosystems (MTEs) by unprecedented droughts is worrisome due to the impacts on its exceptional biodiversity and human well-being. However, research integrating the impacts of global change drivers, forest resilience and the challenges facing human-nature relationships is still scarce. Methods and results: Using the central Chile megadrought and recently massive forest browning event as a model scenario, we identified, through a scientific literature review and an interdisciplinary scientific workshop, the research priorities and questions to address for MTEs in a context of global change. Our results highlighted knowledge gaps that need to be covered, particularly in social and environmental sciences, with an emphasis on soil science. Research priorities must focus on (1) the understanding of interactive effects of global and local anthropogenic drivers on MTEs and (2) the evaluation of the potential impacts of MTEs collapse on human well-being and ecosystem functioning. Conclusions: We highlight the need for a collaborative approach involving scientists, landowners, managers/administrators, and policymakers to apply adaptive forest management against the current socio-environmental challenges under a global change context. Effective quality management plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of smart city systems, which have significant implications for safety, accessibility, affordability, and maintainability. Dependability of autonomous systems is of utmost importance, as achieving satisfactory levels of availability and reliability poses considerable challenges. Smart cities are characterized by interconnected sub-architectures, encompassing vehicle monitoring, sidewalk monitoring, and building monitoring, all of which need to function efficiently. Analytical models such as Petri nets, Markov chains, and fault trees are well-suited for evaluating complex scenarios in the context of smart cities. This paper presents analytical models that utilize fault tree and Markov chain techniques to assess the availability and reliability of smart city monitoring systems. The model is divided into shared and non-shared components, with non-shared components being specific to certain contextual applications, while shared components, such as data processing and electrical power, are essential for all smart city monitoring and management systems. The study underscores the ease with which the fault tree model can enhance availability by modifying failure requirements and resources. Case studies provide concrete examples of how availability improved from 95.3 to 99.8% by varying a configuration known as "KooN" in multiple components. This paper takes a comprehensive approach to evaluating the dependability of smart city architectures and contributes advancements, such as hierarchical modeling, sequential sensitivity analysis, and the "KooN" analytic method. These contributions expand the existing knowledge and methodologies in smart city dependability analysis. Moreover, this work aims to serve as a practical tool to assist smart city managers in optimizing their proposals. Glioma tumors are the most common form of central nervous system tumors, and there is a pressing need for innovative methods that can precisely target cancer cells while leaving healthy tissues unharmed. In this study, progressing in the field of Catalytic Nanomedicine, we investigated the cytotoxic effects of a novel class of bionanocatalysts on glioma cancer cells. These bionanocatalysts were constructed from a catalytic matrix of oxides with evenly dispersed superficial copper-coating nanoparticles. This design optimizes both the inherent catalytic characteristics of the matrix and instills cytotoxic properties. The bionanocatalysts coated with copper demonstrated a significant reduction in cancer cell viability when compared to reference bionanocatalysts without the transition metal. We also observed structural damage to the cytoskeleton and alterations in mitochondrial activity. These findings suggest that these pathways are integral to the mechanisms through which these nanostructures execute their bionanocatalytic activities, particularly in breaking chemical bonds. Importantly, our physicochemical analyses verified that the coating with copper species, primarily CuO, did not disrupt the individual structure of the bionanocatalysts: instead, it enhanced their catalytic cytotoxic potential. This research aims to deepen our understanding of the mechanisms underlying this promising antineoplastic treatment and underscore the effectiveness of superficial copper-coating nanoparticles as agents for amplifying the inherent properties of bionanocatalysts through nanocatalysis. In recent years, the interaction of a human operator with teleoperated robotic systems has been much improved. One of the factors influencing this improvement is the addition of force feedback to complement the visual feedback provided by traditional graphical user interfaces. However, the users of these systems performing tasks in isolated and safe environments are often inexperienced and occasional users. In addition, there is no common framework to assess the usability of these systems, due to the heterogeneity of applications and tasks, and therefore, there is a need for new usability assessment methods that are not domain specific. This study addresses this issue by proposing a measure of usability that includes five variables: user efficiency, user effectiveness, mental workload, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use. The empirical analysis shows that the integration of haptic feedback improves the usability of these systems for non-expert users, even though the differences are not statistically significant; further, the results suggest that mental workload is higher when haptic feedback is added. Patritumab deruxtecan (HER3-DXd) exhibits promising efficacy in breast cancer, with its activity not directly correlated to baseline ERBB3/HER3 levels. This research investigates the genetic factors affecting HER3-DXd's response in women with early-stage hormone receptor-positive and HER2-negative (HR+/HER2-) breast cancer. In the SOLTI-1805 TOT-HER3 trial, a single HER3-DXd dose was administered to 98 patients across two parts: 78 patients received 6.4 mg/kg (Part A), and 44 received a lower 5.6 mg/kg dose (Part B). The CelTIL score, measuring tumor cellularity and infiltrating lymphocytes from baseline to day 21, was used to assess drug activity. Part A demonstrated increased CelTIL score after one dose of HER3-DXd. Here we report CelTIL score and safety for Part B. In addition, the exploratory analyses of part A involve a comprehensive study of gene expression, somatic mutations, copy-number segments, and DNA-based subtypes, while Part B focuses on validating gene expression. RNA analyses show significant correlations between CelTIL responses, high proliferation genes (e.g., CCNE1, MKI67), and low expression of luminal genes (e.g., NAT1, SLC39A6). DNA findings indicate that CelTIL response is significantly associated with TP53 mutations, proliferation, non-luminal signatures, and a distinct DNA-based subtype (DNADX cluster-3). Critically, low HER2DX ERBB2 mRNA, correlates with increased HER3-DXd activity, which is validated through in vivo patient-derived xenograft models. This study proposes chemosensitivity determinants, DNA-based subtype classification, and low ERBB2 expression as potential markers for HER3-DXd activity in HER2-negative breast cancer. Patritumab deruxtecan (HER3-DXd) is a promising therapy for breast cancer, targeting HER3. Economic growth in Spain has largely relied on certain water-intensive sectors including construction, leisure, and agriculture; but considerable heterogeneity is found across the country's regions, both in terms of water stress and economic structure. Using Data Envelopment Analysis and a panel Tobit model, we analyze the determinants of water efficiency in Spain, differentiating by groups of agents (companies, households, and municipalities) and paying particular attention to inter-regional differences and specifically the sectoral structure of the various regions. To the best of our knowledge, such an analysis has never before been conducted with a focus on Spain's economy. Moreover, we emphasize the importance of considering the circular aspects of water management by including treated wastewater and recycled water in our analysis. We argue that this approach provides more credible and accurate measures of efficiency as well as more robust results around the key driving and explanatory factors. Our analysis reveals that water efficiency has a very significant inertia component with respect to one-year and even two-year lags, and this is found to react positively to water scarcity. Moreover, water efficiency depends on income in a nonlinear way, and it is sensitive to the economic structures of the diverse regions, with more efficient regions tending to export more at the national level. Solid state LiDAR systems traditionally rely on costly active components for efficient beam scanning. In this study, we propose a cost-effective, purely passive steering approach using apodized slanted grating couplers. Through apodization, we achieve a uniform upward emission profile and enhanced upward transmission. Theoretical calculations indicate successful steering of 91. 5 ∘ × 42. 8 ∘ . Experimental results closely match theoretical predictions, validating the capabilities of our passive steering concept. Additionally, the grating couplers, with a length of 3 mm, enable a farfield FWHM of 0.026 ∘ , further enhancing sensing resolution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Patient-centred medicine is a healthcare approach that focuses on patients’ wants, needs and preferences. An obstacle to implement patient-centred medicine is the difficulty of obtaining data that is relevant and representative of the whole society. In 2019, the Spanish Society of Cardiology highlighted eight trends that would exert a determining influence on the future of cardiology: “demographics”, “economic environment”, “political environment”, “citizens’ expectations”, “incorporation of women”, “technological innovation”, “health levels and cardiovascular risk factors” and “healthcare organisation and management”. In order to assess these trends from a pacient-centred approach, the aim of this study is to evaluate the opinions of the individuals who are part of Spanish society, regarding the eight trends identified by the Spanish Society of Cardiology, using natural language processing tools to analyse the communications expressed by citizens in digital ecosystems and official channels of communication. We analysed communications published between 2007 and 2019. Natural language processing identified 17 areas of opinion that support the eight trends. We evaluated the impact of each area of opinion based on the standard metrics of online reputation: presence, emotion and reach. Thus, 257,456 communications were analysed. The most relevant trend was “healthcare organisation and management” (54% of the total impact), followed by “health levels and cardiovascular risk factors” and “demographics” (14% and 10%, respectively). The least relevant trend was “citizens’ expectations” (1%). Within the areas of opinion identified, the one with greatest impact was “the cardiologist” (16% of the total impact). In conclusion, the results of this research show that natural language processing tools are a useful tool for patient-centred medicine. The high impact associated with the cardiologist’s role, together with the low impact observed for “citizen’s expectations” show that Spanish citizens identify the cardiologist as the leading figure regarding their cardiovascular health.

Abstract Low fertility is set to worsen economic problems in many developed countries, and maternity, paternity, and parental leave have emerged as key pro-natal policies. Gender inequity in the balance of domestic and formal work has been identified as a key driver of low fertility, and leave can potentially equalise this balance and thereby promote fertility. However, the literature contends that evidence for the effect of leave on fertility is mixed. We conduct the first systematic review on this topic. By applying a rigorous search protocol, we identify and review empirical studies that quantify the impact of leave policies on fertility. We focus on experimental or quasi-experimental studies that can identify causal effects. We identify 11 papers published between 2009 and 2019, evaluating 23 policy changes across Europe and North America from 1977 to 2009. Results are a mixture of positive, negative, and null impacts on fertility. To explain these apparent inconsistencies, we extend the conceptual framework of Lalive and Zweimüller (2009), which decomposes the total effect of leave on fertility into the “current-child” and “future-child” effects. We decompose these into effects on women at different birth orders, and specify types of study design to identify each effect. We classify the 23 studies in terms of the type of effect identified, revealing that all the negative or null studies identify the current-child effect, and all the positive studies identify the future-child or total effect. Since the future-child and total effects are more important for promoting aggregate fertility, our findings show that leave does in fact increase fertility when benefit increases are generous. Furthermore, our extensions to Lalive and Zweimüller’s conceptual framework provide a more sophisticated way of understanding and classifying the effects of pro-natal policies on fertility. Additionally, we propose ways to adapt the ROBINS-I tool for evaluating risk of bias in pro-natal policy studies.

We report the case of a Spanish pediatric patient with developmental delay, hypotonia, feeding difficulties, visual problems, and hyperkinetic movements. Whole-exome sequencing uncovered a new heterozygous de novo Synaptotagmin 1 (SYT1) missense variant, NM_005639.3:c.930T>A (p.Asp310Glu), in a female proband. This gene encodes the synaptotagmin-1 (SYT1) protein, which is a component of a protein complex involved in the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. Pathogenic SYT1 variants have been associated with Baker–Gordon syndrome (BAGOS), an autosomal dominant neurodevelopmental disorder. Although up to 30 cases have been identified worldwide, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first patient described with mitochondrial respiratory chain deficiencies and rod–cone dysfunction. Background: The objective of this study was to assess long-term outcome in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage admitted to the intensive care unit. Methods: Mortality and Glasgow Outcome Scale, Barthel Index, and 5-level EQ-5D version (EQ-5D-5L) scores were analyzed in a multicenter cohort study of three Spanish hospitals (336 patients). Mortality was also analyzed in the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) database. Results: The median (25th percentile-75th percentile) age was 62 (50–70) years, the median Glasgow Coma Score was 7 (4–11) points, and the median Acute Physiology and Chronic Health disease Classification System II (APACHE-II) score was 21 (15–26) points. Hospital mortality was 54.17%, mortality at 90 days was 56%, mortality at 1 year was 59.2%, and mortality at 5 years was 66.4%. In the Glasgow Outcome Scale, a normal or disabled self-sufficient situation was recorded in 21.5% of patients at 6 months, in 25.5% of patients after 1 year, and in 22.1% of patients after 5 years of follow-up (4.5% missing). The Barthel Index score of survivors improved over time: 50 (25–80) points at 6 months, 70 (35–95) points at 1 year, and 90 (40–100) points at 5 years (p < 0.001). Quality of life evaluated with the EQ-5D-5L at 1 year and 5 years indicated that greater than 50% of patients had no problems or slight problems in all items (mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression). In the MIMIC-III study (N = 1354), hospital mortality was 31.83% and was 40.5% at 90 days and 56.2% after 5 years. Conclusions: In patients admitted to the intensive care unit with a diagnosis of nontraumatic intracerebral hemorrhage, hospital mortality up to 90 days after admission is very high. Between 90 days and 5 years after admission, mortality is not high. A large percentage of survivors presented a significant deficit in quality of life and functional status, although with progressive improvement over time. Purpose: The prognostic utility and biological correlates of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), a potential biomarker of the balance between immune response and the inflammatory status, are still uncertain in breast cancer (BC). Methods: We analysed a cohort of 959 women with early breast cancer, mostly treated with neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical and pathological data, survival, NLR (continuous and categorical) and stromal tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (sTIL) were evaluated. Results: NLR was only weakly associated with Ki67, while no association was found for grade, histology, immunohistochemical subtype or stage. Lymphocyte infiltration of the tumor did not correlate with NLR (Rho: 0.05, p = 0.30). These results were similar in the whole group and across the different BC subtypes, with no differences in triple negative BC. Relapse free interval (RFI), breast cancer specific survival (BCSS) and overall survival (OS) changed according to pre-treatment NLR neither in the univariate nor in the multivariate Cox models (RFI: HR 0.948, p = 0.61; BCSS: HR 0.920, p = 0.57; OS: HR 0.96, p = 0.59). Assessing the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of food production is imperative for aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda and adhering to evolving regulatory and strategic frameworks. The absence of a standardized methodology for quantifying sustainability in the agri-food system value chain necessitates the development of an effective approach. This study proposes a comprehensive methodological framework for quantifying the sustainability of agriculture, livestock, and the agri-food industry. The proposed methodology is based on the consensus achieved by a panel of experts using the Delphi methodology. The study emphasizes the identification of activities requiring corrective measures to enhance sustainability within the circular economy principles. The proposed model incorporates 70 indicators, with a particular emphasis on environmental indicators, aligning with the consensus of the expert panel. The classification of land use and land cover (LULC) from remotely sensed imagery in semi-arid Mediterranean areas is a challenging task due to the fragmentation of the landscape and the diversity of spatial patterns. Recently, the use of deep learning (DL) for image analysis has increased compared to commonly used machine learning (ML) methods. This paper compares the performance of four algorithms, Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Convolutional Network (CNN), using multi-source data, applying an exhaustive optimisation process of the hyperparameters. The usual approach in the optimisation process of a LULC classification model is to keep the best model in terms of accuracy without analysing the rest of the results. In this study, we have analysed such results, discovering noteworthy patterns in a space defined by the mean and standard deviation of the validation accuracy estimated in a 10-fold cross validation (CV). The point distributions in such a space do not appear to be completely random, but show clusters of points that facilitate the discovery of hyperparameter values that tend to increase the mean accuracy and decrease its standard deviation. RF is not the most accurate model, but it is the less sensitive to changes in hyperparameters. Neural Networks, tend to increase commission and omission errors of the less represented classes because their optimisation lead the model to learn better the most frequent classes. In acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), elevated foetal haemoglobin (HbF) levels have been associated with the prognosis of patients. Genetic variants in HbF regulatory genes: BAF chromatin remodelling complex subunit (BCL11A), HBS1L-MYB transcriptional GTPase intergenic region (HBS1L-MYB), Krüppel-like factor 1 (KLF1), haemoglobin gamma subunit 2 (HBG2), haemoglobin gamma subunit 1 (HBG1), and haemoglobin subunit beta pseudogene 1 (HBBP1) are often associated with elevated HbF concentration. This study investigated the association of genetic variants in HbF regulatory genes with HbF concentration, unfavourable prognosis, and outcome in children with ALL. We quantified HbF concentration and genotyped 17 genetic variants in 48 patients with ALL and 64 children without ALL as a reference group. HbF concentration was higher in patients than in the reference group (4.4% vs 1.4%), and 75% (n = 36) of the patients had HbF > 2.5%. Unfavourable prognosis ALL was established in 68.8% (n = 33) of the patients. Variant HBG2 rs7482144 was associated with high HbF concentration (P = 0.015); while HBS1L-MYB rs9399137 (P = 0.001), HBG2 rs7482144 (P = 0.001) and the β-globin genes HBG2, HBG1, and HBPP1 haplotype TGC (P = 0.017) with unfavourable prognosis ALL. Additionally, variant BCL11A rs4671393 showed a protective role (P = 0.0001). In conclusion, variants HBG2 rs7482144, HBS1L-MYB rs9399137 and BCL11A rs4671393 may play a significant role in ALL. Agroforestry practices that include trees on grazing lands could enhance atmospheric CO2 sequestration and storage. However, carbon sequestration rates and storage capacity of intensively grazed agroforestry systems vary due to the diversity in species composition, stand structure, system age, and management practices. The objective of this study was to evaluate carbon stocks and accrual rates in Leucaena leucocephala + Cynadon plectostachyus, and Brachiaria decumbens grass silvopastoral systems and compare them with conventional open grazing lands. The study was carried out in Chiapas in southern Mexico, one of the hotspots of deforestation driven by the expansion of livestock farming. We measured above- and belowground carbon stocks in 18 silvopasture (SP) plots, with the plantation age ranging from 2 to 10 years. Nine plots of adjacent conventional full-sun grasslands (open pasturelands) grazed rotationally were sampled for comparison. The average tree biomass stock in SP was 5.5 ± 1.9 Mg C ha−1 and differed with SP age. Mean annual biomass accrual rates ranged from 0.25 to 2.57 Mg C ha−1 year−1, indicating that SP systems are CO2 sinks, excluding other sources of GHG such as methane emissions from enteric fermentation. The average soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration rate of SP was 0.143 ± 0.043 Mg C ha−1 year−1 to 50 cm depth. The SOC sequestration rates correlated positively with SP age at the beginning and decreased after about 8 years. The results suggested that the age and lifespan of trees play a significant role in aboveground C sequestration through the Leucaena leucocephala SP, while SOC storage varied with soil properties. Further research on the relative response of active and stable SOC fractions along with soil CO2 fluxes could explain the results on the SOC storage potential of these agroforestry systems. Aquaculture is a prominent economic activity on the national scenario. However, it also has several environmental impacts. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of non-self-compensating drippers operating with dilutions of aquaculture wastewater (AW) in well water (WA). For this, five dilutions were tested (D1: 100% AW; D2: 75% AW + 25% WA; D3: 50% AW + 50% WA; D4: 25% AW + 75% WA; and D5: 100% of WA), in three types of non-self-compensating emitters: TS (1.6 L h−1), SL (1.6 L h−1), and NJ (1.7 L h−1) after 160 h of operation. Every 80 h, the hydraulic performance of the three drippers was determined using the relative flow (QR) and distribution uniformity coefficient (DUC). The pH, EC, Ca2+, Mg2+, CO32−, HCO3−, TC, TTC, TSS, TDS, Mn+, Fe+, S+, Na2+, LSI, tur, and temperature were also quantified. The statistical analyses performed were Pearson's correlation matrix, principal component analysis (PCA), cluster analysis (CA) and factor analysis (FA). After 160 h of operation, the drippers that were totally or partially clogged at the end of the lateral lines were removed to analyze biofilm formation using SEM. FA with the help of PCA explained 83.38% of data variance, and CA highlighted three similar groups between the dilutions of AW in WA. This paper introduces a novel method for solving the resection problem in two and three dimensions based on conformal geometric algebra (CGA). Advantage is taken because of the characteristics of CGA, which enables the representation of points, lines, planes, and volumes in a unified mathematical framework and offers a more intuitive and geometric understanding of the problem, in contrast to existing purely algebraic methods. Several numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method and to compare its validity with established techniques in the field. Numerical simulations indicate that our vector geometric algebra implementation is faster than the best-known algorithms to date, suggesting that the proposed GA-based methods can provide a more efficient and comprehensible solution to the two- and three-dimensional resection problem, paving the way for further applications and advances in geodesy research. HMGA1 is a structural epigenetic chromatin factor that has been associated with tumor progression and drug resistance. Here, we reported the prognostic/predictive value of HMGA1 for trabectedin in advanced soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) and the effect of inhibiting HMGA1 or the mTOR downstream pathway in trabectedin activity. The prognostic/predictive value of HMGA1 expression was assessed in a cohort of 301 STS patients at mRNA (n = 133) and protein level (n = 272), by HTG EdgeSeq transcriptomics and immunohistochemistry, respectively. The effect of HMGA1 silencing on trabectedin activity and gene expression profiling was measured in leiomyosarcoma cells. The effect of combining mTOR inhibitors with trabectedin was assessed on cell viability in vitro studies, whereas in vivo studies tested the activity of this combination. HMGA1 mRNA and protein expression were significantly associated with worse progression-free survival of trabectedin and worse overall survival in STS. HMGA1 silencing sensitized leiomyosarcoma cells for trabectedin treatment, reducing the spheroid area and increasing cell death. The downregulation of HGMA1 significantly decreased the enrichment of some specific gene sets, including the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. The inhibition of mTOR, sensitized leiomyosarcoma cultures for trabectedin treatment, increasing cell death. In in vivo studies, the combination of rapamycin with trabectedin downregulated HMGA1 expression and stabilized tumor growth of 3-methylcholantrene-induced sarcoma-like models. HMGA1 is an adverse prognostic factor for trabectedin treatment in advanced STS. HMGA1 silencing increases trabectedin efficacy, in part by modulating the mTOR signaling pathway. In this study, the effect of the cell density of monolithic catalysts was investigated and further mathematically modeled on cordierite supports used in CO2 methanation. Commercial cordierite monoliths with 200, 400, and 500 cpsi cell densities were coated by immersion into an ethanolic suspension of Ni/CeO2 active phase. SEM–EDS analysis confirmed that, owing to the low porosity of cordierite (surface area < 1 m2 g−1), the Ni/CeO2 diffusion into the walls was limited, especially in the case of low and intermediate cell density monoliths; thus, active phase was predominantly loaded onto the channels' external surface. Nevertheless, despite the larger exposed surface area in the monolith with high cell density, which would allow for better distribution and accessibility of Ni/CeO2, its higher macro-pore volume resulted in some introduction of the active phase into the walls. As a result, the catalytic evaluation showed that it was more influenced by increments in volumetric flow rates. The low cell density monolith displayed diffusional control at flow rates below 500 mL min−1. In contrast, intermediate and high cell density monoliths presented this behavior up to 300 mL min−1. These findings suggest that the interaction reactants-catalyst is considerably more affected by a forced non-uniform flow when increasing the injection rate. This condition reduced the transport of reactants and products within the catalyst channels and, in turn, increased the minimum temperature required for the reaction. Moreover, a slight diminution of selectivity to CH4 was observed and ascribed to the possible formation of hot spots that activate the reverse water–gas shift reaction. Finally, a mathematical model based on fundamental momentum and mass transfer equations coupled with the kinetics of CO2 methanation was successfully derived and solved to analyze the fluid dynamics of the monolithic support. The results showed a radial profile with maximum fluid velocity located at the center of the channel. A reactive zone close to the inlet was obtained, and maximum methane production (4.5 mol m−3) throughout the monolith was attained at 350 °C. Extracts from Mangifera indica leaves and its main component, mangiferin, have proven antidiabetic activity. In this study, mangiferin and its natural derivatives Homomangiferin (HMF), Isomangiferin (IMF), Neomangiferin (NMF), Glucomangiferin (GMF), Mangiferin 6’-gallate (MFG), and Norathyriol (NRT) were compared regarding their action on Diabetes mellitus (DM), employing docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to analyze interactions with the aldose reductase enzyme, the precursor to the conversion of glucose into sorbitol. Notably, HMF showed significant affinity to residues in the active site of the enzyme, including Trp 79, His 110, Trp 111, Phe 122, and Phe 300, with an energy of − 7.2 kcal/mol, observed in the molecular docking simulations. MD reinforced the formation of stable complexes for HMF and MFG with the aldose reductase, with interaction potential energies (IPE) in the order of − 300.812 ± 52 kJ/mol and − 304.812 ± 52 kJ/mol, respectively. The drug-likeness assessment, by multiparameter optimization (MPO), highlighted that HMF and IMF have similarities with polyphenols and glycosidic flavonoids recently patented as antidiabetics, revealing that high polarity (TPSA > 180 Å2) is a favorable property for subcutaneous administration, especially because of the gradual passive cell permeability values in biological tissues, with Papp values estimated at < 10 × 10−6 cm/s. These compounds are metabolically stable against metabolic enzymes, resulting in a low toxic incidence by metabolic activation, corroborating with a lethal dose (LD50) greater than 2000 mg/kg. In this way, HMF showed a systematic alignment between predicted pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, characterizing it as the most favorable substance for inhibiting aldose reductase. This study aimed to assess the in vitro effects of re-irradiation on enamel and dentin properties, simulating head and neck cancer radiotherapy retreatment. Forty-five human permanent molars were classified into five groups: non-irradiated; irradiated 60 Gy, and re-irradiated with doses of 30, 40, and 50 Gy. Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were employed for analysis. Raman spectroscopy assessed intensity, spectral area, and specific peaks comparatively. Statistical analysis involved Kolmogorov–Smirnov and One-Way ANOVA tests, with Tukey's post-test (significance level set at 5%). Significant changes in irradiated, non-irradiated, and re-irradiated enamel peaks were observed, including phosphate (438 nm), hydroxyapatite (582 nm), phosphate (960 nm), and carbonate (1070 nm) (p < 0.05). Re-irradiation affected the entire tooth (p > 0.05), leading to interprismatic region degradation, enamel prism destruction, and hydroxyapatite crystal damage. Dentin exhibited tubule obliteration, crack formation, and progressive collagen fiber fragmentation. EDX revealed increased oxygen percentage and decreased phosphorus and calcium post-reirradiation. It is concluded that chemical and morphological changes in irradiated permanent teeth were dose-dependent, exacerbated by re-irradiation, causing substantial damage in enamel and dentin. This study aims to explore technological advances and prospects in phenol treatment by providing a detailed bibliometric survey of wastewater treatment applications, highlighting innovative advances in research. Using the Web of Science database, we identified 79,104 articles from 2003 to 2023, later refined to 1848. The keywords were used for the initial search: "phenol", "wastewater", "degradation", "treatment" and "removal". The bibliographic review details the occurrence of journals, authors, newspapers, countries, institutions, keywords, highly cited articles, and prominent predominant research fields. In particular, the field of "Engineering" was responsible for 32% of the published articles, followed by "Ecology of Environmental Sciences" (25%) and "Chemistry" (12%). In addition, a keyword analysis revealed five major groups of clusters that indicate where the research is progressing. This aspect is crucial for understanding the evolution and perspectives of research interests over time. Therefore, future research in the field should prioritize wastewater treatment and feedstock diversification. Given the high impact of traditional mining, the recovery of rare earth elements (REEs) from hazardous waste materials could become an option for the future in accordance with the principles of the circular economy. In this work, the technical feasibility of REEs recovery from metal mine tailings has been explored using electrokinetic-assisted phytoremediation with ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). Phytoextraction combined with both AC current and DC current with reversal polarity was applied (1 V cm−1, 8 h day−1) to real mine tailings containing a total concentration of REEs (Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, and Nd) of around 146 mg kg−1. Changes in REEs geochemical fractionation and their concentrations in the soil pore water showed the mobilization of REEs caused by plants and electric current; REE availability was increased to a higher extent for combined electrokinetic-assisted phytoextraction treatments showing the relevant role of plants in the process. Our results demonstrated the initial hypothesis that it is feasible to recover REEs from real metal mining waste by phytoextraction and that the performance of this technology can be significantly improved by applying electric current, especially of the AC type, which increased REE accumulation in ryegrass in the range 57–68% as compared to that of the treatment without electric field application. In this article, the dielectric properties of a Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) ceramic at the radio frequency (RF) and microwave (MW) regions were evaluated. X-ray diffraction showed that LTO was obtained without the presence of spurious and/or secondary phases. Complex impedance spectroscopy (CIS) analysis was conducted, whereas an activation energy (Ea) of 0.88 eV was observed. The temperature capacitance coefficient (TCC) was also calculated and demonstrated that LTO could be employed as a Class 1 ceramic capacitor. In the MW region, LTO presented ε'r = 25.4, tan δ = 5.7 × 10–4, and τf = -14.5 ppmºC−1, values that are interesting for devices that operate in the MW region. Numerical simulation demonstrated values of a realized gain of 4.78 dBi, a bandwidth of 227 MHz, and a radiation efficiency of 98%. Moreover, LTO was evaluated as a temperature sensor operating in the MW region and demonstrated a sensitivity of -0.06 MHz ºC−1. Purpose: Since the beginning of 2023, ChatGPT emerged as a hot topic in healthcare research. The potential to be a valuable tool in clinical practice is compelling, particularly in improving clinical decision support by helping physicians to make clinical decisions based on the best medical knowledge available. We aim to investigate ChatGPT's ability to identify, diagnose and manage patients with otorhinolaryngology-related symptoms. Methods: A prospective, cross-sectional study was designed based on an idea suggested by ChatGPT to assess the level of agreement between ChatGPT and five otorhinolaryngologists (ENTs) in 20 reality-inspired clinical cases. The clinical cases were presented to the chatbot on two different occasions (ChatGPT-1 and ChatGPT-2) to assess its temporal stability. Results: The mean score of ChatGPT-1 was 4.4 (SD 1.2; min 1, max 5) and of ChatGPT-2 was 4.15 (SD 1.3; min 1, max 5), while the ENTs mean score was 4.91 (SD 0.3; min 3, max 5). The Mann–Whitney U test revealed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001) between both ChatGPT's and the ENTs's score. ChatGPT-1 and ChatGPT-2 gave different answers in five occasions. Conclusions: Artificial intelligence will be an important instrument in clinical decision-making in the near future and ChatGPT is the most promising chatbot so far. Despite needing further development to be used with safety, there is room for improvement and potential to aid otorhinolaryngology residents and specialists in making the most correct decision for the patient. When time series are processed, the difficulty increases with the size of the series. This fact is aggravated when time series are processed online, since their size increases indefinitely. Therefore, reducing their number of points, without significant loss of information, is an important field of research. This article proposes an optimal online segmentation method, called OSFS-OnL, which guarantees that the number of segments is minimal, that a preset error limit is not exceeded using the L ∞ -norm, and that for that number of segments the value of the error corresponding to the L 2 -norm is minimized. This new proposal has been compared with the optimal OSFS offline segmentation method and has shown better computational performance, regardless of its flexibility to apply it to online or offline segmentation. Key message: The current status of molecular regulation of nitrogen assimilation and recent advances made in gymnosperms are reviewed. Gymnosperms are a heterogeneous and ancient group of seed plants that includes conifers, ginkgos, cycads and gnetophytes. Molecular studies on extant gymnosperms have been constrained by some discouraging features for experimental research such as their long life cycles, large sizes, complex megagenomes and abundant phenolic compounds in their woody tissues. However, the development of high-throughput sequencing and refined multiomics technologies in the last few years has allowed to explore the molecular basis of essential processes in this ancient lineage of plants. Nitrogen is one of the main limiting factors determining vascular development and biomass production in woody plants. Therefore, nitrogen uptake, metabolism, storage and recycling are essential processes for fundamental gymnosperm biology. Background: This study introduces and assesses the outcomes of a novel rhinoplasty technique, TRICK-TIP (Transcolumellar and Inter Cartilaginous Keystoning with Tip preservation), employing a combined open and closed approach with tip anatomy conservation and structured tip support. Methods: The procedure involves a low stairstep columellar sectioning, followed by transmembranous and intercartilaginous incisions without skin dissection in the columella or tip. Elevating the entire mobile nose as a three-layered flap provides extensive access to the entire nasal pyramid and septum. Tip modifications, including retrograde cephalic cartilage resection and supratip skin thinning, are performed based on individual cases. A key columellar strut is frequently used, initially sutured in the interdomal space and then turned down for height adjustment and final fixation. Interdomal sutures, supratip sutures, and alar resection are implemented as needed. Results: One hundred twenty patients participated, with high satisfaction and a low frequency of adverse effects reported using four FACE-Q™ questionnaires. One hundred and two independent raters evaluated pre and postoperative photographs, scoring "overall nose result" as 3.6 out of 5, with minimal or absent nostril deformities (1.84), soft triangle deformities (1.73), and columellar external scar deformity/visibility (1.35) where 1 is the absence of the deformity and 5 is disfigurement. Complications were absent, and revisions were infrequent. Conclusions: The combined benefits of the wide-open approach, shortened surgery duration, and nasal tip preservation contribute to outcome optimization. TRICK-TIP rhinoplasty is characterized by simplicity, enabling targeted modifications, preventing soft triangle and rim complications, and facilitating essential tip support while maintaining favorable results. This study presents an innovative approach to predicting the quality of finished parts in top milling processes by integrating robust parameter design with artificial intelligence techniques. A central composite design was used to combine controllable variables (cutting speed, tooth advance, milled width, and cutting depth) with noise variables (tool flank wear, fluid flow, and cantilevered length). Duplex stainless steel was milled under each experimental setup, and roughness data were collected. These data were used to train three machine learning models: random forest, decision tree, and support vector machine. The models predicted surface roughness, and their predictions were validated through experimental tests. The root means square error values were 0.031 for the random forest, 0.038 for the decision tree, and 0.066 for the support vector machine, indicating that the random forest model performed the best. This innovative study highlights the importance of including noise variables along with controllable factors in machine learning models, significantly improving prediction accuracy and making them more reflective of real-world results. The InfiniBand (IB) interconnection technology is widely used in the networks of modern supercomputers and data centers. Among other advantages, the IB-based network devices allow for building multiple network topologies, and the IB control software (subnet manager) supports several routing engines suitable for the most common topologies. However, the implementation of some novel topologies in IB-based networks may be difficult if suitable routing algorithms are not supported, or if the IB switch or NIC architectures are not directly applicable for that topology. This work describes the implementation of the network topology known as KNS in a real HPC cluster using an IB network. As far as we know, this is the first implementation of this topology in an IB-based system. In more detail, we have implemented the KNS routing algorithm in the OpenSM software distribution of the subnet manager, and we have adapted the available IB-based switches to the particular structure of this topology. We have evaluated the correctness of our implementation through experiments in the real cluster, using well-known benchmarks. The obtained results, which match the expected performance for the KNS topology, show that this topology can be implemented in IB-based clusters as an alternative to other interconnection patterns. Background: The technical complexity and limited casuistry of neonatal surgical pathology limit the possibilities of developing the necessary technical competencies by specialists in training. Esophageal atresia constitutes the paradigm of this problem. The use of synthetic 3D models for training is a promising line of research, although the literature is limited. Methods: We conceptualized, designed, and produced an anatomically realistic model for the open correction of type III oesophageal atresia. We validated it with two groups of participants (experts and non-experts) through face, construct, and content-validity questionnaires. Results: The model was validated by nine experts and nine non-experts. The mean procedure time for the experts and non-experts groups was 34.0 and 38.4 min, respectively. Two non-experts did not complete the procedure at the designed time (45 min). Regarding the face validity questionnaire, the mean rating of the model was 3.2 out of 4. Regarding the construct validity, we found statistically significant differences between groups for the equidistance between sutures, 100% correct in the expert group vs. 42.9% correct in the non-expert group (p = 0.02), and for the item "Confirms that tracheoesophageal fistula closure is watertight before continuing the procedure", correctly assessed by 66.7% of the experts vs. by 11.1% of non-experts (p = 0.05). Concerning content validity, the mean score was 3.3 out of 4 for the experts and 3.4 out of 4 for the non-experts. Conclusions: The present model is a cost-effective, simple-to-produce, and validated option for training open correction of type III esophageal atresia. Purpose: To describe our experience over 6 years using a new high-density polyethylene-based spherical integrated porous orbital implants (Oculfit). Methods: This is an observational retrospective case series study analyzing all cases requiring Oculfit implants between February 2015 and September 2021. Clinical information regarding the population included, the characteristics of the implant, and the outcomes and complications during the follow-up were noted. The success of the implant was defined according to anatomical and functional parameters. Results: The study analyzed 90 cases of anophthalmic patients. The main causes for enucleation or evisceration were ocular decompensations (36.7%) and neoplasms (27.8% uveal melanoma and 7.8% retinoblastoma). Anatomical success was identified in 63 (70.0%) cases, functional success in 79 (87.8%) and complete success (anatomical + functional) in 61 (67.7%) cases. Factors associated with the functional success were age and exposure of the primary orbital implant. Complications appeared in 11 (12.2%) cases, which were completely resolved without sequelae in 4 (4.4%). Orbital explant was required in 5 (5.6%) cases. Conclusion: In our experience, Oculfit can be considered a useful alternative among the currently available options for orbital implants and has a good efficacy/safety profile. In 2016, a design for detecting harbor porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) in the Belgian part of the North Sea (BPNS) was developed in the framework of the LifeWatch project using Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) loggers. In 2018, the network of deployments fully matured, and eight locations across the BPNS are presently housed with a C-POD (Chelonia Ltd., UK), a PAM logger moored on the seafloor using a multi-use platform. The PAM logger continuously listens for harbor porpoise click trains, but only stores the click parameters. This paper presents the generated data series of harbor porpoise click trains at a minute-resolution and the details on the individual click trains. The field recordings, methodology and processing are described, along with its data curation, integration and quality control. The data are annually published online in a standardized format, accompanied with the metadata description, and labelled with a digital object identifier for traceability. Chemical Short-Range Order (CSRO) has attracted recent attention from many researchers, creating intense debates about its impact on material properties. The challenges lie in confirming and quantifying CSRO, as its detection proves exceptionally demanding, contributing to conflicting data in the literature regarding its true effects on mechanical properties. Our work uses high-precision calorimetric data to unambiguously prove the existence and, coupled with atomistic simulations, quantify the type of CSRO. This methodology allows us to propose a mechanism for its formation and destruction based on the heat evolution during thermal analysis and facilitates a precise identification of local ordering in CoCrNi alloys. Samples of CoCrNi (Co33Cr33Ni33) and CrNi2 (Cr33Ni66) alloys are fabricated in varying ordered states, extensively characterized via synchrotron X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Samples with considerably different ordered states are submitted to tensile tests with in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction. We demonstrate, despite inducing varied CSRO levels in CoCrNi, no significant alterations in overall mechanical behavior emerge. However, the CrNi2 alloy, which undergoes long-range ordering, experiences significant shifts in yield strength, ultimate tensile stress and ductility. Here authors use calorimetry to quantify chemical short-range order (CSRO) experimentally, in good agreement with atomistic simulations. A new lithostrotian titanosaur, Qunkasaura pintiquiniestra gen. et sp. nov., is described based on a single partial skeleton from the late Campanian-early Maastrichtian fossil-site of Lo Hueco (Cuenca, Spain). This new taxon is supported by an exclusive combination of characters that highlights strong convergences with members of the South American Aeolosaurini. Qunkasaura allows to reorganise the complex phylogenetic relationships of the increasingly diverse finicretaceous sauropods of Europe. Phylogenetic analyses places Qunkasaura within Saltasauridae and possibly Opisthocoelicaudiinae, together with Abditosaurus. A new clade is established, Lohuecosauria, including Saltasaurus, Lohuecotitan, their most recent common ancestor and all its descendants. Two distinct Ibero-Armorican Campanian-Maastrichtian saltasauroid lineages are recognised: (i) Lirainosaurinae that is exclusive from Europe, and (ii) a saltasaurid lineage with possible opisthocoelicaudiine affinities, with a Laurasian distribution. Lirainosaurinae was a relict lineage including possible dwarf forms that evolved in isolation after reaching Europe before the Late Cretaceous through the Apulian route. The occurrence of opisthocoelicaudiines in Europe may be the result of a Late Cretaceous interchange between Europe and Asia. No evidence of insular dwarfism is found in the Ibero-Armorican opisthocoelicaudiines suggesting that they may have been newcomers to the area that arrived before the 'Maastrichtian Dinosaur Turnover' in southwestern Europe. The discovery of a new sauropod dinosaur from the Upper Cretaceous of Spain sheds light on the phylogenetic relationships of European titanosaurs. Introduction: Incorporation of AKT inhibitors into adjuvant therapy for advanced or metastatic breast cancer has improved clinical outcomes. However, the safety of AKT inhibitors should be better evaluated, given the possibility of prolonging survival and impacting patient quality of life. Our aim was to assess how the addition of AKT inhibitors to adjuvant therapy affects treatment-related adverse events. Methods: We evaluated binary outcomes with risk ratios (RRs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We used DerSimonian and Laird random-effect models for all endpoints. Heterogeneity was assessed using I2 statistics. R, version 4.2.3, was used for statistical analyses. Results: A total of seven RCTs comprising 1619 patients with BC. The adverse effects that show significance statistical favoring the occurrence of adverse effects in AKT inhibitor were diarrhea (RR 3.05; 95% CI 2.48–3.75; p < 0.00001; I2 = 49%), hyperglycemia (RR 3.4; 95% CI 1.69–6.83; p = 0.00058; I2 = 75%), nausea (RR 1.69; 95% CI 1.34–2.13; p = 0.000008; I2 = 42%), rash (RR 2.79; 95% CI 1.49–5.23; p = 0.0013; I2 = 82%), stomatitis (RR 2.24; 95% CI 1.69–2.97; p < 0.00001; I2 = 16%) and vomiting (RR 2.99; 95% CI 1.85–4.86; p = 0.00009; I2 = 42%). There was no significant difference between the groups for alopecia (p = 0.80), fatigue (p = 0.087), and neuropathy (p = 0.363380). Conclusion: The addition of AKT inhibitors to adjuvant therapy was associated with an increase in treatment-related adverse events. These results provide safety information for further clinical trials evaluating AKT inhibitor therapy for patients with metastatic BC. Clinicians should closely monitor patients for treatment-related adverse events to avoid discontinuation of therapy and morbidity caused by these early-stage therapies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
