Abstract This study aims to analyze the fake posts circulated on Turkish social media during the Russia–Ukraine war. With advancing technology, social media platforms have a profound impact on the way we perceive and interpret events and make us question the accuracy of information generated about international events such as wars. While the Russia–Ukraine war constitutes an important turning point in international relations, the reflection of these events on social media is also seen in fake posts. In this context, the main purpose of this study is to identify the common themes of fake social media posts and to reveal the general context of these posts on social media. In addition, the study aims to analyze the fake content circulating on Turkish social media and to reveal the emerging polarized discourses through the identified themes. The research revolves around five main themes that feed polarization: war reporting, ideological misrepresentation, humor, hate speech, and conspiracy theories. The findings show that fake content is particularly concentrated around ideological polarization and antagonisms. It was also found that misinformation and decontextualized humor blurred the true context of the war and that fake content combined with hate speech and conspiracy theories distorted the context of the war.

Abstract This study aims to fill a gap in existing literature by investigating the relationship between academic stress and cyberloafing behavior among university students. By examining 415 final-year undergraduate students from various faculties at Girne American University, the research utilizes a correlational design to analyze the impact of academic stress on cyberloafing, considering the mediating effect of fatigue and the moderating influence of self-control. The findings reveal a significant positive association between academic stress and cyberloafing, with fatigue partially mediating this relationship and self-control moderating the influence. This research offers a novel perspective on understanding and addressing cyberloafing in educational settings, thereby contributing to the existing body of knowledge on this topic. The study’s methodology and findings provide valuable insights into the complex interplay of academic stress, fatigue, self-control, and cyberloafing, offering implications for educational institutions in addressing and mitigating cyberloafing behaviors among students.

Abstract Research on communications has consistently demonstrated that mass media is predicted to have a strong influence on students’ behavior and their overall disposition to academic performance. However, how school values influence media preference and use is less well investigated. This study investigated whether school values influence media preference and the purpose of using media in a private university in North Central, Nigeria in Nigeria. The study adopted a triangulating type of mixed method research design and stratified sampling technique in recruiting 390 respondents. Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) version 22 was used in analysing the returned questionnaires, while five (5) in-depth interviews were content analyzed. The study used both the descriptive and inferential methods of data analysis. The findings of the study revealed a decline in the reading of print media. The study also found that there was a positive relationship between school values and media preference. Further, findings revealed a non-existing relationship between the purpose for using mass media and school values. The study concluded that though, mass media, students, and the broad social system (university) are all interconnected, general institutional core values may not necessarily be upheld as individual values as reflected in the different purposes for using media by students’. The study recommends that lecturers should recommend print media sections for academic work.

Abstract Saudi Arabia is the leading economy in the Arabian Gulf region; it accounts for a significant amount of remittance outflow (RMO) to the rest of the world. The objective of the study is to investigate the impact of remittance outflow on the economic growth (EG) of Saudi Arabia by utilizing time-series data from 1985 to 2019 controlling trade, labor force, human capital, and physical capital. It employs the non-linear autoregressive distributive lag (NARDL) model, cointegrating regressions, and vector error correction (VEC) Granger causality check to accomplish the study. The outcomes of the NARDL exercise confirm a cointegrating association among variables and reveal that RMO has mixed but negative resultant impacts on the EG in the short run, while in the long run, EC growth is augmented if remittance outflows decline. Both trade and labor force positively contribute to EG, while neither human nor physical capital significantly influences the latter. The cointegrating regression outcomes precisely authenticate the NARDL findings and acknowledge their robustness. Moreover, the VEC Granger causality test also supports the NARDL outcomes. The outcome suggests that the policymakers may allure the expatriates through pragmatic labor laws, policies, and smart incentives to direct their savings to domestic consumption and investments. Moreover, the quality of education in general and tertiary education, in particular, needs to be upgraded in the real sense to develop the practical skills and efficiency of the Saudi labor force so that they can replace the expatriates. This will eventually reduce outbound remittances.

Abstract This study addresses the nature of citizen journalism in Palestine, with the chief aim of identifying its role in promoting professionalism, ethics, and objectivity, and empowering digital media, information accessibility, and democratization of media production. To this end, this study uses data from different universities across Palestine obtained through surveys that address digital media empowerment and non-professional users in the new media landscape. The study sample used was selected using the stratified sampling method. Upon completion of a pilot test, a total of 300 questionnaires were distributed among undergraduates of 10 universities across Palestine based on their willingness to participate and availability. Our results suggest that official media outlets can benefit from citizen journalism by providing accurate and valid sources of information to citizen journalists to increase engagement among their audiences as a result of enhanced perceptions of independency and credibility. However, our findings also reveal that citizen journalism does not make a significant difference in undermining gatekeeping practices over new media content in Palestine. Moreover, the results show that there is no relationship or correlation between the idea of adopting citizen journalism as a complementary method to traditional journalism and the credibility and reliability of news stories presented by citizen journalists.

Abstract Single‐cell technologies allow measuring chromatin accessibility and gene expression in each cell, but jointly utilizing both layers to map bona fide gene regulatory networks and enhancers remains challenging. Here, we generate independent single‐cell RNA‐seq and single‐cell ATAC‐seq atlases of the Drosophila eye‐antennal disc and spatially integrate the data into a virtual latent space that mimics the organization of the 2D tissue using ScoMAP (Single‐Cell Omics Mapping into spatial Axes using Pseudotime ordering). To validate spatially predicted enhancers, we use a large collection of enhancer–reporter lines and identify ~ 85% of enhancers in which chromatin accessibility and enhancer activity are coupled. Next, we infer enhancer‐to‐gene relationships in the virtual space, finding that genes are mostly regulated by multiple, often redundant, enhancers. Exploiting cell type‐specific enhancers, we deconvolute cell type‐specific effects of bulk‐derived chromatin accessibility QTLs. Finally, we discover that Prospero drives neuronal differentiation through the binding of a GGG motif. In summary, we provide a comprehensive spatial characterization of gene regulation in a 2D tissue.

Abstract The six transmembrane protein of prostate 2 (STAMP2) is an androgen‐regulated gene whose mRNA expression is increased in prostate cancer (PCa). Here, we show that STAMP2 protein expression is increased in human PCa compared with benign prostate that is also correlated with tumor grade and treatment response. We also show that STAMP2 significantly increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) in PCa cells through its iron reductase activity which also depleted NADPH levels. Knockdown of STAMP2 expression in PCa cells inhibited proliferation, colony formation, and anchorage‐independent growth, and significantly increased apoptosis. Furthermore, STAMP2 effects were, at least in part, mediated by activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), whose expression is regulated by ROS. Consistent with in vitro findings, silencing STAMP2 significantly inhibited PCa xenograft growth in mice. Finally, therapeutic silencing of STAMP2 by systemically administered nanoliposomal siRNA profoundly inhibited tumor growth in two established preclinical PCa models in mice. These data suggest that STAMP2 is required for PCa progression and thus may serve as a novel therapeutic target.

This study focuses on optimizing double stir casting process parameters to enhance the tensile strength of hybrid composites comprising aluminum alloy, brown pumice, and coal ash, intended for brake disc applications. Analytical techniques including X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy were employed to characterize the composite constituents. The Taguchi method was utilized for experimental design and optimization to determine the optimal weight compositions of brown pumice and coal ash, as well as stir casting parameters (stirrer speed, pouring temperature, and stirring duration). Regression analysis was employed to develop a predictive mathematical model for the tensile strength of the hybrid composites and to assess the significance of process parameters. The optimized composite achieved a predicted tensile strength of 186.81 MPa and an experimental strength of 190.67 MPa using 7.5 vol% brown pumice, 2.5 vol% coal ash, a pouring temperature of 700 °C, stirrer speed of 500 rpm, and stirring duration of 10 min. This represents a 52.23% improvement over the as-cast aluminum alloy's tensile strength. Characterization results revealed that brown pumice and coal ash contain robust minerals (SiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3) suitable for reinforcing metal matrices like aluminum, titanium, and magnesium. Thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses demonstrated thermal stability up to 614.01 °C for the optimized composite, making it suitable for brake disc applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores disparities and opportunities in healthcare information provided by AI chatbots. We focused on recommendations for adjuvant therapy in endometrial cancer, analyzing responses across four regions (Indonesia, Nigeria, Taiwan, USA) and three platforms (Bard, Bing, ChatGPT-3.5). Utilizing previously published cases, we asked identical questions to chatbots from each location within a 24-h window. Responses were evaluated in a double-blinded manner on relevance, clarity, depth, focus, and coherence by ten experts in endometrial cancer. Our analysis revealed significant variations across different countries/regions (p < 0.001). Interestingly, Bing's responses in Nigeria consistently outperformed others (p < 0.05), excelling in all evaluation criteria (p < 0.001). Bard also performed better in Nigeria compared to other regions (p < 0.05), consistently surpassing them across all categories (p < 0.001, with relevance reaching p < 0.01). Notably, Bard's overall scores were significantly higher than those of ChatGPT-3.5 and Bing in all locations (p < 0.001). These findings highlight disparities and opportunities in the quality of AI-powered healthcare information based on user location and platform. Background: Syringin, a phenylpropanoid glycoside, has exhibited numerous biological properties including inhibitory activities against various immune and inflammatory disorders. In this study, syringin isolated from Tinospora crispa was evaluated for its ability to down-regulate activated nuclear factor-kappa B (NF‐κB), phosphoinositide-3-kinase-Akt (PI3K‐Akt) and mitogen‐activated protein kinases (MAPKs) signal transducing networks in U937 macrophages activated by lipopolysaccharide. Methods: The attenuating effects of syringin on the productions of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and the expressions of signaling molecules of the signaling pathways were investigated by using ELISA, Western blot, and qRT-PCR. Results: Syringin downregulated the NF-κB, MAPKs, and PI3K‐Akt signal networks by significantly reducing PGE2 production in the macrophages via suppression of COX-2 gene and protein expression levels. It also reduced TNF-α and IL-1β secretion and their mRNA expression, suppressed phosphorylation of NF-κB (p65), IKKα/β, and IκBα, and restored ability of IκBα to degrade. Syringin dose-dependently attenuated Akt, p38 MAPKs, JNK, and ERK phosphorylation. Also, the expression of corresponding upstream signaling molecules toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and myeloid differentiation primary response gene 88 (MyD88) were down-regulated in response to syringin treatment. Conclusion: The suppressive effect of syringin on the inflammatory signaling molecules in MyD88-dependent pathways suggested it's potential as a drug candidate for development into an agent for treatment of various immune-mediated inflammatory disorders. Orthopedic and dental equipment have always been made of Ti and its alloys. In physiological saline solution, the corrosion behavior of the β-Ti alloy, as a possible replacement for Ti and Ti6Al4V in medical applications, was studied. In agreement with the EIS (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), the PPCs (potentiodynamic polarization curves) findings, and the OCP (the open circuit potential), the specimens' resistance of corrosion declines in the next arrangement: β-Ti alloy > Ti6Al4V alloy > Ti in a physiological saline solution (PSS). Because of the thin layer of Ti oxide that forms on its surface, the β-Ti alloy is widely known for its ability to resist corrosion in dental applications. H2O2, a reactive oxygen species that is present during inflammation, and albumin, the most prevalent protein in biological fluids, were added to in vitro tests to stimulate peri-implant inflammatory conditions. Consequently, for the first time in PSS at 310 K, electrochemical and long-term immersion tests were utilized to assay the impact of BSA (bovine serum albumin) and H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) on the β-Ti alloy corrosion. Because hydrogen peroxide has a high oxidizing effect, its existence increases the OCP's positive trend. The EIS and PPCs show that albumin suppresses both the cathodic reaction and the anodic dissolution, whereas hydrogen peroxide enhances both the cathodic and anodic reactions. Resistance to caspase-dependent apoptosis is often responsible for treatments failure in cancer. Necroptosis is a type of programmed necrosis that occurs under caspase-deficient conditions that could overcome apoptosis resistance. Our purpose was to investigate the interrelationship between apoptotic and necroptotic death pathways and their influence on the response of breast cancer cells to radiotherapy in vitro. Human BC cell lines MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 were treated with ionizing radiation, and then several markers of apoptosis, necroptosis, and survival were assessed in the presence and absence of necroptosis inhibition. MLKL knockdown was achieved by siRNA transfection. Our main findings emphasize the role of necroptosis in cellular response to radiation represented in the dose- and time-dependent elevated expression of necroptotic markers RIPK1, RIPK3, and MLKL. Knockdown of necroptotic marker MLKL by siRNA led to a significant elevation in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 survival with a dose modifying factor (DMF) of 1.23 and 1.61, respectively. Apoptotic markers Caspase 8 and TRADD showed transitory or delayed upregulation, indicating that apoptosis was not the main mechanism by which cells respond to radiation exposure. Apoptotic markers also showed a significant elevation following MLKL knockdown, suggesting its role either as a secondary or death alternative pathway. The result of our study emphasizes the critical role of the necroptotic pathway in regulating breast cancer cells responses to radiotherapy and suggests a promising utilization of its key modulator, MLKL, as a treatment strategy to improve the response to radiotherapy. Myrtus communis L. (Family: Myrtaceae) is naturally found in the western part of Asia, Southern Europe, and North Africa. It has been reportedly applied in pharmaceutical industry, traditional medicine, cosmetics, spices, and food. Pubmed, Google scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus were utilized to seek out relevant content concerning the therapeutic potential of M. communis. Subsequently, we conducted a review to identity noteworthy updates pertaining to M. communis. Myrtle berries, leaves, seeds, and essential oils are natural sources of several nutrients and bioactive compounds with marked health effects. The chemical analysis showed that M. communis contained oils, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, coumarins, saponosides, tannins, quinines, and anthraquinones. A pharmacological investigation revealed that M. communis possessed anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimicrobial, antiparasitic, antioxidant, antidiabetic, anticancer, antimutagenic, immunomodulatory, dermatological, cardiovascular, central nervous system, and gastrointestinal protective effects, among numerous other biological effects. This current review focused on the biochemical, pharmacological, therapeutic effects, and various biological activities of different parts of M. communis. Perturbations produced by ionizing radiation on intestinal tissue are considered one of highly drastic challenges in radiotherapy. Animals were randomized into five groups. The first group was allocated as control, and the second was subjected to whole body γ-irradiation (10 Gy). The third was administered HA NP (17.6 mg/kg/day; i.p.) and then irradiated. The fourth one received MitoQ (2 mg/kg/day; i.p.) and then irradiated. The last group received MitoQ/HA NP (2 mg/kg/day; i.p.) for 5 days prior to irradiation. Mice were sacrificed a week post-γ-irradiation for evaluation. MitoQ/HA NP ameliorated mitochondrial oxidative stress as indicated by rising (TAC) and glutathione peroxidase and decreasing malondialdehyde, showing its distinguished antioxidant yield. That impacted the attenuation of apoptosis, which was revealed by the restoration of the anti-apoptotic marker and lessening proapoptotic caspase-3. Inflammatory parameters dwindled via treatment with MitoQ/HA NP. Moreover, this new NP exerts its therapeutic action through a distinguished radioprotective pathway (Hmgb1/TLR-4.) Subsequently, these antioxidants and their nanoparticles conferred protection to intestinal tissue as manifested by histopathological examination. Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated, hyperproliferative skin disease. Etiopathogenesis of psoriasis is not well understood. Plexin B2 was found to have effects on CD100-mediated T-cell morphology and expressed in the immune system. It may play a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. To assess the tissue level of plexin-B2 and plexin B2 related gene polymorphism which is signal regulatory protein gamma (SIRPγ-rs71212732) in psoriatic patients before and after NB-UVB, acitretin therapy alone or in combination and to detect correlation between level of tissue plexin B2 and disease severity and improvement. This single blinded randomized controlled trial was carried on 50 psoriatic patients and 50 healthy controls. Psoriasis Area and Severity Index score (PASI) was used to evaluate the disease severity. Tissue plexin-b2 level was measured using ELISA and SIRPγ-rs71212732 (T\C) was assessed using TaqMan™ assays and real-time PCR. A significant lower tissue plexin-B2 level was observed in control group (2.9 ± 0.6 pg/g) than cases (25.8 ± 2.8, pg/g) (p < 0.001). Also, a significantly higher tissue plexin-B2 level was observed in sever psoriasis (32.7 ± 3.8 pg/ml) in than moderate psoriasis (13.6 ± 2.1 pg/ml, p = 0.001). Tissue plexin B2 was positively correlated with diseases severity. Significantly higher (TC& TT) genotypes and mutant (C) allele among patients compared to the controls, p < 0.001 for all. Tissue plexin-b2 level was high in psoriasis vulgaris with positive correlation with disease severity and decreased after treatment. This study examined the functionalization of graphene with easily ionizable elements, such as lithium, and subsequently its interaction with the biopolymer sodium alginate (SA), to highlight its potential for biomedical applications. Utilizing Density Functional Theory (DFT), the research comprehensively investigated the structural, electronic, and spectroscopic properties of these graphene-based composites. The electronic properties of functionalized graphene were investigated using DFT at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level. Among the various configurations studied, graphene exhibited weak interaction with two lithium atoms, displaying the highest reactivity in terms of total dipole moment (TDM) at 5.967 Debye and a HOMO/LUMO energy gap (ΔE) of 0.748 eV. Electrostatic potential mapping revealed that graphene when enhanced with lithium and three units of SA, exhibited an augmented potential density on its surface, a finding corroborated by other investigated physical properties. Notably, the configuration of graphene/3SA/Li, with weak interaction occurring at two side carbons, demonstrated the highest reactivity with a TDM of 15.509 Debye and ΔE of 0.280 eV. Additionally, a shift in the spectral characteristics of graphene towards lower wavenumbers was observed as lithium and SA interacted with the graphene substrate. The PDOS plot for Graphene/3SA/Li, showed the highest contribution in the HOMO orbitals was equally from lithium, sodium, hydrogen, and oxygen, while the lowest contribution was from carbon. This computational analysis provides comprehensive insights into the functionalized graphene systems, aiding in their further development and optimization for practical biomedical use. Textile-toxic synthetic dyes, which possess complex aromatic structures, are emitted into wastewater from various branches. To address this issue, the adsorption process was applied as an attractive method for the removal of dye contaminants from water in this article. An unprecedented integrated experimental study has been carried out, accompanied by theoretical simulations at the DFT-B3LYP/6-31G (d,P) level of theory to investigate how single Maxilon Blue GRL (MxB) dye or and its mixture with MG (Malachite Green) dyes interact with the adsorbent and compare the obtained results with the data obtained through experimentation. The full geometry optimization revealed the physical adsorption of dyes on the Al2O3 surface. Non-linear optical properties (NLO) results emphasized that the complex MG-Al2O3-MxB is a highly promising material in photo-applications, and the adsorbed binary system is energetically more favorable compared to the adsorbed sole dye system. The experimental results for (MxB) dye adsorption onto γ-Al2O3 affirmed that the optimum conditions to get more than 98% uptake were at dye concentration 100 ppm, pH 10, adsorbent content 0.05 g, and equilibrium time only 20 min. The kinetic and isothermal studies revealed that the adsorption accepted with the pseudo-second-order and Freundlich isotherm model, respectively. The removal efficiency of the mixture of MxB and MG dyes was the highest but did not change clearly with increasing the % of any of them. Frequent and variant infections are caused by the virtue of opportunistic fungi pathogens. Candidiasis, aspergillosis, and mucormycosis are pathogenic microorganisms that give rise to vast fungal diseases that alternate between moderate to fatal in severity. The use of fluconazole as an antifungal drug was limited due to the acquired resistance in some types of Candida and other fungal species. This study aims to consolidate fluconazole's biological effectiveness against several pathogenic fungi. Six active monoterpenes (MTs) of carvacrol, linalool, geraniol, α-terpinene, citronellal, and nerolidol were selected and encapsulated in nanostructure lipid carrier (NLC) with (NLC-Flu-MTs) and/without (NLC-MTs) fluconazole in one nanoformulation to determine if they will act synergistically or not? The synthesized nanoformulation NLC-Flu-MTs and NLC-MTs exhibited very good particle size of 144.5 nm and 138.6 nm for size and zeta potential values of (− 23.5 mV) and (− 20.3 mV), respectively. Transmission electron microscope investigation confirmed that the synthesized NLCs have regular and spherical shape. The abundance and concentration of the six released monoterpenes were determined, as a novel approach, using GC–MS with very good results and validity. In-vitro antifungal screening was done before and after nano co-delivery against seven pathogenic, and aggressive fungi of Candida tropicalis, Candida krusei, Candida glabrata, Geotrichum Candidum, Candidaalbicans, Aspergillus Niger, and mucor circinelloides. Inhibition Zone diameter (IZD) and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) were measured. Nanoformulations NLC-Flu-MTs and NLC-MTs manifested potential and unique biological susceptibility against all the tested microorganisms with reduced (MIC) values, especially against Candida Tropicalis (MIC = 0.97 µg/ml) which represents 16-fold of the value shown by NLC-MTs (MIC = 15.6 µg/ml) and 64-fold of fluconazole free before nanoformulation (MIC = 62.5 µg/ml). The efficiency of nanomaterials, particularly NLC-Flu-MTs, has become evident in the diminishing value of MIC which affirmed the synergism between fluconazole and the other six monoterpenes. Background: Recently, silicone-based impressions have been continuously adopted owing to their excellent elastomeric properties associated with accuracy and detail in reproducing oral structures. The dimensional stability of impression materials is essential for maintaining the accuracy of the impressions obtained. Therefore, it is critical to understand the influence of shelf life and storage conditions on the dimensional stability of impressions. The main aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to critically appraise evidence of the impact of shelf-life and storage conditions on the accuracy and performance of additional silicone impression materials. Methods: A comprehensive database search was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and ScienceDirect. Eligible articles were selected and assessed for methodological quality using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist for Quasi-Experimental Studies. Data were systematically extracted and analyzed. Results: The search process identified 1,105 potential articles, from which 17 experimental studies met the inclusion criteria. Through systematic extraction and data analysis, dimensional changes following storage were observed. However, these changes did not attain statistical significance across individual studies. Furthermore, material-specific variations in dimensional alterations were noted. Additionally, the evaluation of tensile bond strength indicated a reduction over the storage period. Conclusions: The results showed different dimensional, chemical, and physical property changes in silicone with storage. In addition, storage conditions like temperature significantly affect silicone impressions' dimensional stability and performance. Allergic diseases, affecting millions worldwide, have shown a progressive increase in recent years. Existing anti-allergy drugs primarily target symptoms and downstream reactions, necessitating the exploration of novel therapeutics addressing the root causes in the allergy pathway. Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) and interleukin-33 (IL-33), classified as upstream cytokines, play pivotal roles in initiating type-2 immunity and are implicated in allergic diseases. However, small molecule antagonists for both TSLP and IL-33 proteins are still in early development and not yet available as treatments for allergic diseases. This study focuses on identifying natural small molecules that can inhibit both TSLP and IL-33 proteins. The study employed structure-based virtual screening to identify potential dual inhibitors of TSLP and IL-33 from the ZINC database. Through the use of Autodock Vina in PyRx software, virtual screening was conducted to predict the binding mode and binding affinity of these compounds. Molecular dynamics simulations utilizing GROMACS and binding free energy calculations (MM/PBSA) were performed to evaluate the stability and strength of interactions between the identified compounds and the target proteins. Additionally, bioavailability and toxicity analyses were carried out to evaluate the safety and pharmacokinetic properties of the compounds. The study successfully pinpointed three promising compounds, namely ZINC01105767 and ZINC08764679 (fused heterocyclic compounds), and ZINC33833100 (a limonin analogue), as potential dual inhibitors of both TSLP and IL-33 proteins. Molecular dynamics simulations confirmed the structural stability of these complexes, and the analysis of RMSD, RMSF, Rg, and SASA indicated strong interactions. A novel mesoporous magnetic biochar (MBC) was prepared, using a randomly growing plant, i.e., common reed, as an exporter of carbon, and applied for removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. The prepared sorbent was characterized by nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm, saturation magnetization, pH of point of zero charges (pHPZC), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The obtained MBC has a specific surface area of 94.2 m2 g−1 and a pore radius of 4.1 nm, a pore volume of 0.252 cm3 g−1, a saturation magnetization of 0.786 emu g−1, and a pHPZC of 6.2. Batch adsorption experiments were used to study the impact of the physicochemical factors involved in the adsorption process. The findings revealed that MB removal by MBC was achieved optimally at pH 8.0, sorbent dosage of 1.0 g L−1, and contact time of 30 min. At these conditions, the maximum adsorption was 353.4 mg g−1. Furthermore, the adsorption isotherm indicated that the Langmuir pattern matched well with the experimental data, compared to the Freindlich model. The ∆G was − 6.7, − 7.1, and − 7.5 kJ mol−1, at 298, 308, and 318 K, respectively, indicating a spontaneous process. The values of ∆H and ∆S were 5.71 kJ mol−1 and 41.6 J mol−1 K−1, respectively, suggesting endothermic and the interaction between MB and MBC is van der Waals type. The absorbent was regenerated and reused for four cycles after elution with 0.1 mol L−1 of HCl. Background: Terrestrial snails, specifically Theba pisana, represent significant agricultural pests in the Mediterranean region, particularly in Egypt. They are gastropods that cause substantial damage to a variety of vegetation, rendering them important agricultural pests that result in economic losses. In response, we have developed unique and non-toxic molluscicides. The study assessed nine novel heterocycles compared with methomyl as a reference compound, to study their molluscicidal effects on T. pisana. These heterocycles include 2-pyrazolines, 2-oxocyclohex-3-ene, and 3-cyano-2-ethoxypyridine. Results: The obtained data revealed that the majority of the produced chemicals were remarkably effective against T. pisana snails, exhibiting different degrees of toxicity seven days post-treatment. Methomyl exhibited the highest toxicity, followed by prop-2-en-1-one and 1-thiocarbamoyl-2-pyrazoline derivatives, with LC50 values of 44.14, 59.54, and 72.00 ppm, respectively. Conclusions: These findings will inform the potential of these synthetic compounds as one of the sources for molluscicide development and their integration into pest management strategies. The concept, performance, and analyses of distinctive, miniaturized metamaterial (MTM) unit cell addressing the forthcoming Sub 6 GHz 5G applications are presented in this paper. Two circular split-ring resonators (CSRR) with two parallel rectangular copper elements in front of the design and a slotted square element in the background make up the suggested metamaterial. It has a line segment with tunable features that is positioned in the center of the little ring copper structure. The suggested design offers a significant operating frequency band of 220 MHz together with a resonance of transmission coefficient S21 at 3.5 GHz. Background: Chronic venous ulcers are prevalent, its incidence (1%) in the general population. Venous ulcers are quite a challenge for physicians to treat. Among the numerous pathological causes, venous hypertension remains the leading cause. This study aims to compare the safety, efficacy, short-term complications, factors affecting wound healing as well as pathological outcomes of ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS) in conjunction with the four-layer compression bandage in the management of chronic venous ulcers. Methods: Retrospective analysis of a hundred patients with chronic venous ulcers treated between December 2018 and December 2021. Two groups were studied: the control group, which received conventional compression, and the study group, which underwent injection sclerotherapy and conventional compression. Punch skin biopsies were taken from both groups before and after treatment to compare the histological effects of the two methods. Results: Complete healing was achieved in 100% of the patients, with a shorter healing time in the study group (34.82 ± 4.7). Additionally, the degree of inflammation was significantly decreased but there was a higher local complication rate in the study group. Background: Cardiovascular magnetic resonance-feature tracking (CMR-FT) is a novel quantitative objective noninvasive technique in the assessment of myocardial deformation. The purpose of that study was to assess the capability of the CMR-FT in the detection of myocardial ischemia and viability. We investigated 30 patients (n = 480 myocardial segments), with known or suspected coronary artery disease (CAD). Dobutamine stress cardiovascular magnetic resonance (DS-CMR) and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) were used to identify the viable non-ischemic, ischemic, and non-viable myocardial segments. Cine images at rest were used to calculate the segmental radial (Err), circumferential (Ecc), and longitudinal (Ell) strain parameters by manual contouring of endocardial and epicardial borders using Segment Software. Results: Of the 480 myocardial segments and based on the DS-CMR and LGE results, 338 segments were defined as viable non-ischemic (remote), 101 segments were viable ischemic, and 41 segments were non-viable. Rest segmental Ecc, Err, and Ell values were significantly impaired in the non-viable (mean ± SD = − 3.94 ± 4.99%, 11.81 ± 12.55%, and − 7.50 ± 6.96%, respectively) compared to both viable groups, p < 0.001. Ecc and Err significantly differentiated between the non-ischemic and ischemic groups (mean ± SD = − 19.14 ± 7.20% vs − 13.18 ± 8.57% and 44.03 ± 19.56% vs 32.79 ± 17.91% respectively), p < 0.001. However, Ell showed no statistical significance between them (mean ± SD = − 16.44 ± 8.78% vs − 16.12 ± 10.00%, p = 0.945). Conclusions: CMR-FT can differentiate between viable and non-viable as well as ischemic and non-ischemic myocardial segments. Abiotic stresses are the major constraint that limits the productivity of potatoes. Among all the major abiotic stresses, drought is the main stress that is increasing on a yearly basis. Therefore, the current field study was conducted to evaluate the morphological and yield characteristics of 29 potato genotypes. Plants were divided into control and drought stress groups, and plants were acclimatized to drought stress 45 days after sowing (DAS). The irrigation regime was maintained at 3-day interval for control group plants, while for the drought stress treatment, the field was irrigated at 6-day interval. Performance of potato plants was observed by measuring morpho-physiological and yield traits that included canopy temperature, chlorophyll contents, growth duration, plant height, stand establishment, and number of stems per plant. Finally, potato tuber traits were measured (number of tubers, tuber weight, and marketable tuber weight). All potato breeding lines showed contrasting behaviour in response to drought stress. Results showed that potato breeding lines 7, 9, 11, 20, 12, 16, 22, 21, 10, and 18 suggested tolerance as they showed the least reduction in yield characteristics, whereas genotypes 1, 26, 24, 4, 27, 6, 8, 29, 23, 26, 3, and 5 showed poor performance as they failed to cope with stress conditions. Broad sense heritability showed 77% variability that suggested decreased effect of environment on potato genotypes for the selection of high-yielding tubers. The resilient potato breeding lines showed the potential to be stably used as potato breeding material for stress tolerance. In this study, we studied the (2+1)-dimensional complex modified Korteweg-de Vries (cmKdV) system using the improved Ricatti equation method. cmKdV are nonlinear and coupled partial differential equations that arise in various fields of applied science and engineering, such as ferromagnetic materials and optical fibers. When the method is applied to cmKdV, we successfully derive exact soliton solutions that accurately describe the wave propagation behavior of the system under consideration. The obtained results include trigonometric and hyperbolic function solutions. The results obtained are concise and offer a deeper insight into the dynamics and characteristics of cmKdV. Traveling wave solitons are plotted in 2D and 3D to demonstrate the wave propagation phenomena in the cmKdV model, which are in the form of kink, bright, dark, singular solitons, and periodic solitary wave structures. A new theobromine-derived EGFR inhibitor (2-(3,7-Dimethyl-2,6-dioxo-2,3,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-purin-1-yl)-N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)acetamide) has been developed that has the essential structural characteristics to interact with EGFR's pocket. The designed compound is 2,6-di ortho methylphenyl)acetamide derivative of the well-known alkaloid, theobromine, (T-1-DOMPA). Firstly, deep DFT studies have been conducted to study the optimized chemical structure, molecular orbital and chemical reactivity analysis of T-1-DOMPA. Then, T-1-DOMPA's anticancer potentialities were estimated first through a structure-based computational approach. Utilizing molecular docking, molecular dynamics, MD, simulations over 100 ns, MM-PBSA and PLIP studies, T-1-DOMPA bonded to and inhibited the EGFR protein effectively. Subsequently, the ADMET profiles of T-1-DOMPA were computed before preparation, and its drug-likeness was anticipated. Therefore, T-1-DOMPA was prepared for the purposes of scrutinizing both the design and the results obtained in silico. The in vitro potential of T-1-DOMPA against triple-negative breast cancer cell lines, MDA- MB-231, was very promising with an IC50 value of1.8 µM, comparable to the reference drug (0.9 µM), and a much higher selectivity index of 2.6. Neurodegenerative disorders (NDDs) are associated with increased activities of the brain acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and β-secretase enzyme (BACE1). Inhibition of these enzymes affords therapeutic option for managing NDDs such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). Although, Gongronema latifolium Benth (GL) has been widely documented in ethnopharmacological and scientific reports for the management of NDDs, there is paucity of information on its underlying mechanism and neurotherapeutic constituents. Herein, 152 previously reported Gongronema latifolium derived-phytochemicals (GLDP) were screened against hAChE, hBChE and hBACE-1 using molecular docking, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, free energy of binding calculations and cluster analysis. The result of the computational analysis identified silymarin, alpha-amyrin and teraxeron with the highest binding energies (-12.3, -11.2, -10.5 Kcal/mol) for hAChE, hBChE and hBACE-1 respectively as compared with those of the reference inhibitors (-12.3, -9.8 and − 9.4 for donepezil, propidium and aminoquinoline compound respectively). These best docked phytochemicals were found to be orientated in the hydrophobic gorge where they interacted with the choline-binding pocket in the A-site and P-site of the cholinesterase and subsites S1, S3, S3' and flip (67–75) residues of the pocket of the BACE-1. The best docked phytochemicals complexed with the target proteins were stable in a 100 ns molecular dynamic simulation. The interactions with the catalytic residues were preserved during the simulation as observed from the MMGBSA decomposition and cluster analyses. The presence of these phytocompounds most notably silymarin, which demonstrated dual high binding tendencies to both cholinesterases, were identified as potential neurotherapeutics subject to further investigation. Verapamil hydrochloride (VRP), an antihypertensive calcium channel blocker drug has limited bioavailability and short half-life when taken orally. The present study was aimed at developing cubosomes containing VRP for enhancing its bioavailability and targeting to brain for cluster headache (CH) treatment as an off-label use. Factorial design was conducted to analyze the impact of different components on entrapment efficiency (EE%), particle size (PS), zeta potential (ZP), and percent drug release. Various in-vitro characterizations were performed followed by pharmacokinetic and brain targeting studies. The results revealed the significant impact of glyceryl monooleate (GMO) on increasing EE%, PS, and ZP of cubosomes with a negative influence on VRP release. The remarkable effect of Poloxamer 407 (P407) on decreasing EE%, PS, and ZP of cubosomes was observed besides its influence on accelerating VRP release%. The DSC thermograms indicated the successful entrapment of the amorphous state of VRP inside the cubosomes. The design suggested an optimized formulation containing GMO (50% w/w) and P407 (5.5% w/w). Such formulation showed a significant increase in drug permeation through nasal mucosa with high Er value (2.26) when compared to VRP solution. Also, the histopathological study revealed the safety of the utilized components used in the cubosomes preparation. There was a significant enhancement in the VRP bioavailability when loaded in cubosomes owing to its sustained release favored by its direct transport to brain. Pain management has been a severe public health issue throughout the world. Acute pain if not treated at the appropriate time can lead to chronic pain that can cause psychological and social distress. Nothing can be more rewarding than treating pain successfully for a physician. However, the use of chemical NSAIDs and opiate drugs has taken a toll on the patients with their unavoidable side effects. This study intends to explore the potential to treat pain by inhibiting nociception and inflammation with a safer, non-addictive, effective, and low-cost alternative agent from a natural source, visnagin. In vivo studies have been conducted using male Swiss albino mice as models for this research. Nociception was induced using different chemical and thermal stimuli such as acetic acid, glutamate, capsaicin, and formalin. To check for the anti-inflammatory properties, carrageenan was used to induce inflammation and the activity was assayed using peritoneal cavity leukocyte infiltration analysis and pro-inflammatory cytokine level comparison with the supplementation of visnagin at three different dosages. The findings of this study revealed that the visnagin treatment effectively attenuated the acetic acid-induced writhing response, glutamate-induced paw licking numbers, capsaicin-induced pain response, and formalin-induced biphasic licking incidences in the experimental mice models. Furthermore, the visnagin treatment remarkably suppressed the carrageenan-induced inflammation in mice, which is evident from the decreased leukocytes, mononuclear, and polymorphonuclear cell numbers in the mice. The levels of cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 were effectively reduced by the visnagin treatment in the experimental mice. The results of open field test proved that the visnagin showed a better locomotor movement in the experimental mice. Iron deficiency is a recognized global health concern, particularly impactful during pregnancy where the mother serves as the primary source of iron for the developing fetus. Adequate maternal iron levels are crucial for fetal growth and cognitive development. This review investigates the correlation between maternal iron deficiency and cognitive impairment and anemia in offspring, considering age and gender differentials. PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases were queried using keywords "maternal," "iron," "gender/sex," and "cognition." The review included studies on human and animal subjects where maternal iron deficiency was the exposure and offspring cognitive function and anemia were outcomes. Out of 1139 articles screened, fourteen met inclusion criteria. Twelve studies highlighted cognitive deficits in offspring of iron-deficient mothers, with females generally exhibiting milder impairment compared to males. Additionally, two studies noted increased anemia prevalence in offspring of iron-deficient mothers, particularly affecting males and younger individuals. The findings suggest that male offspring are at higher risk of both anemia and cognitive dysfunction during youth, while females face increased risks in adulthood. Thus, maternal iron deficiency elevates the likelihood of anemia and cognitive impairments in offspring, underscoring the importance of addressing maternal iron status for optimal child health. Boric acid (BA) is a naturally occurring weak Lewis acid containing boron, oxygen, and hydrogen elements that can be found in water, soil, and plants. Because of its numerous biological potentials including anti-proliferation actions, the present investigates the chemopreventive possessions of BA on azoxymethane (AOM)-induced colonic aberrant crypt foci (ACF) in rats. Thirty laboratory rats were divided into 5 groups: negative control (A) received two subcutaneous inoculations of normal saline and nourished on 10% Tween 20; groups B–E had two injections of 15 mg/kg azoxymethane followed by ingestion of 10% Tween 20 (B, cancer control), inoculation with intraperitoneal 35 mg/kg 5-fluorouracil injection (C, reference group), or ingested with boric acid 30 mg/kg (D) and 60 mg/kg (E). The gross morphology results showed significantly increased total colonic ACF in cancer controls, while BA treatment caused a significant reduction of ACF values. Histopathological evaluation of colons from cancer controls showed bizarrely elongated nuclei, stratified cells, and higher depletion of the submucosal glands than that of BA-treated groups. Boric acid treatment up-surged the pro-apoptotic (Bax) expression and reduced anti-apoptotic (Bcl-2) protein expressions. Moreover, BA ingestion caused upregulation of antioxidant enzymes (GPx, SOD, CAT), and lowered MDA contents in colon tissue homogenates. Boric acid–treated rats had significantly lower pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6) and higher anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10) based on serum analysis. The genetic diversity of Egyptian rice has received diminished attention recently, resulting in a weakened genetic foundation that renders it more vulnerable to environmental fluctuations. Developing durable rice cultivars necessitates the ongoing exploration of genetic resources and the utilization of diverse germplasm. The examination of rice diversity was conducted by researchers utilizing 27 rice genotypes and 23 polymorphic microsatellite markers. The microsatellite comprises 106 alleles that have been observed (Na), with an effective allele count of 67.36 (Ne). The average number of alleles per locus is 4.61, with a standard deviation of 2.93. On average, the values of polymorphism information content (PIC) were found to be 0.580. A noteworthy correlation was observed between the number of alleles and both gene diversity (r = 0.713) and polymorphic information content (PIC) (r = 0.785). The results of our study provide empirical evidence supporting the existence of both the P1 and P2 subgroups; P1 comprises twelve distinct rice genotypes, while P2 encompasses fifteen different rice genotypes. The analysis of molecular variance determined that individual variations contributed to 34.22% of the observed variance, while population differences accounted for the remaining 65.78%. The gene flow coefficient was determined to be 0.481, whereas the fixation index exhibited a statistically significant value of 0.342. The presence of admixtures within the population suggests a significant likelihood of gene transfer between different genotypes. The principal component analysis (PCA) encompassed 27 components, with only the initial four components (PC1, PC2, PC3, and PC4) regarded as variation representatives. In that order, the initial four components exhibited the highest eigenvalues, specifically 18.413, 10.759, 7.618, and 7.031. Hydatidosis causes a serious health hazard to humans and animals leading to significant economic and veterinary and public health concern worldwide. The present study aimed to evaluate the in vitro and ex vivo protoscolicidal effects of synthesized poly(amidoamine), PAMAM, nanoemulsion. In this study, PAMAM was characterized through dynamic light scattering technique to investigate the particle size and zeta potential of nanoemulsified polymer. For the in vitro and ex vivo assays, we used eosin dye exclusion test and scanning electron microscope (SEM) to evaluate the effects of the prepared and characterized PAMAM nanoemulsion against protoscoleces from Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato G6 (GenBank: OQ443068.1) isolated from livers of naturally infected camels. Various concentrations (0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 mg/mL) of PAMAM nanoemulsion at different exposure times (5, 10, 20 and 30 min) were tested against protoscolices. Our findings showed that PAMAM nanoemulsion had considerable concentration- and time-dependent protoscolicidal effect at both in vitro and ex vivo experiments. Regarding in vitro assay, PAMAM nanoemulsion had a potent protoscolicidal effect when compared with the control group with a highest protoscolicidal activity observed at the concentration of 2 mg/mL at all exposure times, such that 100% of protoscolices were killed after 20 min of exposure. Also, the mortality of protoscolices was 100% after 30 min of exposure to 1 and 1.5 mg/mL of PAMAM nanoemulsion, in vitro. Concerning ex vivo assay PAMAM nanoemulsion recorded the highest mortality rates at the concentration of 2 mg/mL (55, 99.4 and 100% at 10, 20, 30 min, respectively). Ultrastructure examination of examined protoscolices after 20 min of exposure to PAMAM nanoemulsion showed a complete loss of rostellar hooks, disruption of suckers with disorganization of hooks with partial or complete loss of them, and damage of protoscolices tegument with loss of their integrity in the form of holes and contraction of the soma region were observed in 1.5 and 2 mg/mL of PAMAM, in vitro and ex vivo, showing more damage in the in vitro conditions. It can be concluded that PAMAM nanoemulsion is a promising protoscolicidal agent offering a high protoscolicidal effect at a short exposure time. Background: To investigate the predictable parameters associated with downgrading in patients with a Gleason score (GS) 8 (4+4) in prostate biopsy after radical prostatectomy. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 62 patients with a GS of 4+4 on prostate biopsy who underwent robotic radical prostatectomy between 2017 and 2022. Results: 38 of 62 (61.2%) were downgraded. In multivariable logistic regression model, Ga-68 prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron-emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) SUV max was independent predictor of downgrading (OR 0.904; p = 0.011) and a Logistic Regression model was constructed using the following formula: Y = 1.465–0.95 (PSMA PET/CT SUV max). The model using this variable correctly predicted the downgrading in 72.6% of patients. The AUC for PSMA PET/CT SUV max was 0.709 the cut off being 8.8. A subgroup analysis was performed in 37 patients who had no other European Association of Urology (EAU) high risk features. 25 out of 37 (67.5%) were downgraded, and 21 of these 25 had organ confined disease. Low PSMA SUV max (<8.1) and percentage of GS 4+4 biopsy cores to cancer bearing cores (45.0%) were independently associated with downgrading to GS 7. Conclusion: PSMA PET/CT can be used to predict downgrading in patients with GS 4+4 PCa. Patients with GS 4+4 disease, but no other EAU high risk features, low percentage of GS 4+4 biopsy cores to cancer bearing cores, and a low PSMA PET/CT SUV max are associated with a high likelihood of the cancer reclassification to intermediate risk group. Limited data exist on viral hepatitis among migrant populations. This study investigated the prevalence of current hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and lifetime hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among Qatar's migrant craft and manual workers (CMWs), constituting 60% of the country's population. Sera collected during a nationwide COVID-19 population-based cross-sectional survey on CMWs between July 26 and September 9, 2020, underwent testing for HBsAg and HCV antibodies. Reactive samples underwent confirmatory testing, and logistic regression analyses were employed to explore associations with HBV and HCV infections. Among 2528 specimens tested for HBV infection, 15 were reactive, with 8 subsequently confirmed positive. Three samples lacked sufficient sera for confirmatory testing but were included in the analysis through multiple imputations. Prevalence of current HBV infection was 0.4% (95% CI 0.2–0.7%). Educational attainment and occupation were significantly associated with current HBV infection. For HCV infection, out of 2607 specimens tested, 46 were reactive, and 23 were subsequently confirmed positive. Prevalence of lifetime HCV infection was 0.8% (95% CI 0.5–1.2%). Egyptians exhibited the highest prevalence at 6.5% (95% CI 3.1–13.1%), followed by Pakistanis at 3.1% (95% CI 1.1–8.0%). Nationality, geographic location, and occupation were significantly associated with lifetime HCV infection. Background: Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) is an alternative method for patients with reversible causes of cardiac arrest (CA) after conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR). However, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) duration during ECPR can vary due to multiple factors. Healthcare providers need to understand these factors to optimize the resuscitation process and improve outcomes. The aim of this study was to examine the different variables impacting the duration of CPR in patients undergoing ECPR. Methods: This retrospective, single-center, observational study was conducted on adult patients who underwent ECPR due to in-hospital CA (IHCA) or out-of-hospital CA (OHCA) at Hamad General Hospital (HGH), the tertiary governmental hospital of Qatar, between February 2016 and March 2020. Univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the prognostic factors associated with CPR duration, including demographic and clinical variables, as well as laboratory tests. Results: The mean ± standard division age of the 48 participants who underwent ECPR was 41.50 ± 13.15 years, and 75% being male. OHCA and IHCA were reported in 77.1% and 22.9% of the cases, respectively. The multivariate analysis revealed that several factors were significantly associated with an increased CPR duration: higher age (OR: 1.981, 95%CI: 1.021–3.364, P = 0.025), SOFA score (OR: 3.389, 95%CI: 1.289–4.911, P = 0.013), presence of comorbidities (OR: 3.715, 95%CI: 1.907–5.219, P = 0.026), OHCA (OR: 3.715, 95%CI: 1.907–5.219, P = 0.026), and prolonged collapse-to-CPR time (OR: 1.446, 95%CI:1.092–3.014, P = 0.001). Additionally, the study found that the initial shockable rhythm was inversely associated with the duration of CPR (OR: 0.271, 95%CI: 0.161–0.922, P = 0.045). However, no significant associations were found between laboratory tests and CPR duration. Conclusion: These findings suggest that age, SOFA score, comorbidities, OHCA, collapse-to-CPR time, and initial shockable rhythm are important factors influencing the duration of CPR in patients undergoing ECPR. Understanding these factors can help healthcare providers better predict and manage CPR duration, potentially improving patient outcomes. Parkinson's disease is characterized by a lack of the neurotransmitter or cell-signaling molecule dopamine. Levodopa is a well-known drug for Parkinson's disease since it induces dopamine. Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) are enzymes that break down levodopa, limiting the amount delivered to the brain. COMT inhibitors act by extending the duration of action of levodopa, thus improving the amount of time benefit from levodopa. There are several FDA-approved COMT inhibitors used, such as Entacapone and Tolcapone. Tolcapone can penetrate blood-brain barrier (BBB), but most of the drug stays in the plasma because its high protein bound, and it has severe side effects, while Entacapone cannot penetrate BBB, which reduces drug efficiency. This study aims to design higher-efficiency drug inhibitors by investigating the physical properties in terms of total energy, total dipole moment and HOMO/LUMO band gap at DFT: B3LYP level using the LAN2DZ basis set, in addition to quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) calculations to test the biological activity of these drug inhibitors for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Abstact: Background: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) currently named SARS-CoV-2 is a contagious disease caused by a coronavirus; incompatible data are present on the possible relationship among COVID-19 vaccines and hair loss. Aims: The objective of the current study was to assess dermoscopically the prevalence of hair loss among an Egyptian population following COVID-19 vaccination. Methods: A total of 2000 participants were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Adult males and females who received one of recognized COVID-19 vaccine were included, irrespective of the status of previous COVID-19 infection. Those who were aged less than 18 years or above 60 years were excluded. Furthermore, subjects self-reporting hair loss were assessed by dermoscopy. Results: Among the studied cases, n = 478 (23.9%) complained of hair loss following vaccination. The majority of cases noticed their hair loss during the first 2 months post-vaccination (n = 215 after the first month and n = 158 after the 2nd month respectively). Conclusion: We reported prevalence of post-vaccination hair fall that was confirmed by trichoscopy and which affected approximately one quarter of participants who received COVID-19 vaccines. Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a complex inflammatory disease characterized by musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal manifestations. It is a distinct disease entity at the interface between rheumatology and dermatology, making it challenging to manage. The diverse clinical presentation and severity of PsA require a multidisciplinary approach for optimal care. Early diagnosis and management are necessary to improving quality of life for patients. In Saudi Arabia, there is currently no unified national consensus on the best practices for managing PsA. This lack of consensus leads to debate and uncertainty in the treatment of the disease, resulting in over or under prescribing of biological agents. To address this issue, a multidisciplinary work group was formed by the Saudi Ministry of Health. This group, consisting of dermatologists, rheumatologists, and pharmacists, aimed to develop evidence-based consensus recommendations for he use and monitoring of biological therapy in PsA management. The work group conducted five consensus workshops between December 2021 to March 2022. Using the nominal group technique, they discussed various aspects of PsA management, including eligibility criteria for biological treatment, monitoring of disease activity, treatment goals, screening, precautions, and management of PsA with biologic therapies. The group also considered special considerations for patients with comorbidities, pregnant and lactating women, as well as pediatric and adolescent populations. The resulting consensus document provides recommendations that are applicable to the Saudi setting, taking into account international guidelines and the specific needs of PsA patients in the country. The consensus document will be regularly updated to incorporate new data and therapeutic agents as they become available. This study investigated the recovery of nickel from tailings (0.2% Ni) obtained in a chromite beneficiation plant using H2SO4 leaching followed by oxalic acid precipitation. The tailings were characterized using mineral liberation analysis. Ni was found as Fe-Ni, Fe-Ni-Co sulfide minerals, which were encapsulated in serpentine, olivine, pyroxene and clinochlore. Liberated fine chromite minerals benefited from magnetic separation followed by Falcon concentrator. A chromite product with a grade > 37% was obtained. The effect of leaching conditions including acid concentration, temperature, time and solid-to-liquid ratio on the leaching behavior of Ni was investigated based on the Taguchi approach. It was possible to extract Ni with a rate of > 98% from the tailings using the following conditions: H2SO4 concentration of 3 M, solid-to-liquid ratio of 1:20 and ambient temperature for 2 h. Finally, Ni was precipitated as an oxalate form with a precipitation rate of 72%. It is believed that implementing additional purification methods like solvent extraction may be essential to obtain a high-purity nickel product from the leach solution of oxalate precipitate. The study aimed to evaluate the effects of Carica papaya peel meal-based diet on spermiogram and reaction time in rabbit bucks. Ripe pawpaw fruits were harvested during the dry season. The peels were carefully removed from the pulp and sun-dried for a week. Afterward, they were ground and included in the test diets as pawpaw peel meal (PPM) at inclusion rates of 0%, 15%, and 30%. Rabbit bucks (n = 15) were randomly separated into three groups of five bucks and labeled as groups A, B, and C. Group A, the control group (0%), was fed the basal protein diet (BD), group B (PPM 15) was given a PPM-based diet (15%), while C (PPM 30) was given diet composed of PPM (30%). Semen samples were collected and evaluated fortnightly for 14 weeks. The reaction time and mean ejaculate volume were lower (P < 0.05) in the treatment groups than in the control. Sperm motility and concentration decreased significantly (P < 0.05) across the groups from week 4 to the end of the experiment. Bucks fed PPM 15%, and PPM 30% had significantly (P < 0.05) higher percentages of dead sperm cells and total spermatozoa abnormalities. The control had (86%) normal spermatozoa morphology while those of PPM 15% and PPM 30% were (61%) and (52%), respectively. PPM 30% had the highest abnormal spermatozoa (47%) compared to PPM 15% (38%) and control (13%). Purpose: African Animal Trypanosomosis (AAT) caused by Trypanosoma congolense is a parasitic disease affecting the livestock industry in sub-Saharan Africa and usually results in severe anemia, organ damage, and ultimately the death of the infected host. The present study was designed to investigate the possible chemotherapeutic effect of eugenol on T. congolense infections and its inhibitory effect on the trans-sialidase (TconTS) gene expression. Methods: Animals were infected with T. congolense and treated with 15 and 30 mg/kg body weight (BW) of eugenol for ten (10) days. Results: The eugenol (15 mg/kg BW) significantly (P < 0.05) reduced the T. congolense proliferation, increased animal survival, and reduced serum urea level. However, both dosages of eugenol significantly (P < 0.05) ameliorated T. congolense-induced anemia, renal hypertrophy, splenomegaly, and reduced total damage score in the liver and kidney of infected animals. In addition, the compound significantly (P < 0.05) downregulated the expression levels of TconTS1, TconTS2, TconTS3, and TconTS4 but the effect was more pronounced (sevenfold reduction) on TconTS1. Conclusions: The oral administration of eugenol suppressed T. congolense proliferation and prevented some major pathologies associated with trypanosomiasis infection. The reversal of renal hypertrophy and splenomegaly by the compound in addition to the reduction in the expression level of the TconTS gene variants could explain the observed anemia ameliorative potential of the compound. Chitosan is a natural biopolymer that is classified among the most important biodegradable polysaccharides widely used in different environmental and industrial applications, such as tissue engineering, biomedical devices, electronics and supercapacitors, water filtration, and food packaging. Theoretical infrared spectra of chitosan were computed using both Hartree–Fock (HF) and Density Functional Theory (DFT) methods, with different basis sets, including 3-21g, 6-31g, 6-311g, LANL2DZ, and LANL2MB, to identify the ideal basis set that is closest to the experimental results. DFT:B3LYP/3-21g** was the best model for chitosan and was used to investigate its functionalization with various functional groups such as (OH, NH2, COOH, CH3, CHO, CN, SH) and graphene oxide (GO). Molecular electrostatic potential, total dipole moment, and HOMO–LUMO band gap (∆E) calculations indicated that Chitosan-GO is the most reactive and stable structure, with a ∆E of 0.3023 eV. Consequently, Chitosan–GO composite was prepared and analyzed using ATR–FTIR spectroscopy. The spectra revealed a new band at 1620 cm−1, which was attributed to the COOH group of GO and was red-shifted owing to the hydrogen bonding between the GO and NH2 of chitosan, confirming the synthesis of Chitosan–GO composite. The significant improvement in the electronic properties of Chitosan-GO based on the obtained results promotes it to be used in electronic applications such as the development of electrodes for supercapacitors.
