Transmembrane B cell lymphoma 2-associated X protein inhibitor motif-containing (TMBIM) 6, a Ca2+ channel-like protein, is highly up-regulated in several cancer types. Here, we show that TMBIM6 is closely associated with survival in patients with cervical, breast, lung, and prostate cancer. TMBIM6 deletion or knockdown suppresses primary tumor growth. Further, mTORC2 activation is up-regulated by TMBIM6 and stimulates glycolysis, protein synthesis, and the expression of lipid synthesis genes and glycosylated proteins. Moreover, ER-leaky Ca2+ from TMBIM6, a unique characteristic, is shown to affect mTORC2 assembly and its association with ribosomes. In addition, we identify that the BIA compound, a potentialTMBIM6 antagonist, prevents TMBIM6 binding to mTORC2, decreases mTORC2 activity, and also regulates TMBIM6-leaky Ca2+, further suppressing tumor formation and progression in cancer xenograft models. This previously unknown signaling cascade in which mTORC2 activity is enhanced via the interaction with TMBIM6 provides potential therapeutic targets for various malignancies. This cross-sectional and descriptive study aimed to investigate factors that affected the happiness of rural residents. The study used a convenience sample consisting of 1029 Korean rural residents from the Gyeong-gi Province collected between November and December 2014. The results found that people aged 60 and over were happier than those between 15 and 19 years old. Happiness was correlated with age, income, violence, social support, subjective health, depression, and suicidal ideation. Factors affecting the happiness of rural residents were depression, social support, suicidal ideation, and age, and these factors explained 48.0% of the variance in happiness. The results demonstrate that the happiness of rural residents was affected by various psychological factors and supportive intervention should be developed to enhance the happiness of people living in rural areas. Three aloe fermentation products from Ganoderma lucidum (AG), Hericium erinaceum (AH), and Phellinus linteus (AP) were obtained by fermenting mushroom mycelia using aloe as a substrate. When AG, AH, and AP were added to sterilized aloe and fermented for 5 days, the color of the aloe fermentation product changed from pink to beige, which is aloe's natural color, through the fermentation time. The pH of the aloe fermentation products ranged 4.32-4.36 shortly after inoculation and then 4.62-4.68 during the 5 days of fermentation. pH increased by 7% during the total fermentation time. The solid content had increased 1.28-1.40 times. The contents of aloin A and B increased with fermentation time. β-Glucan content decreased with fermentation time. The urease inhibition activity (%) were remarkable in AG-4 96.70, AH-4 92.30, and AP-4 66.40%, indicating these products had growth inhibition effects against Helicobacter pylori. Purpose: Proliferation activity has long been known to be one of the strongest prognostic factors in many different cancers. Nevertheless, microscopic evaluation of mitotic figures remains time-consuming and, furthermore, is relatively subjective. As the expression of cytoskeleton-associated protein 2 (CKAP2) is closely related to the mitotic phase, CKAP2 was evaluated as a surrogate mitotic figure (MF) marker. Methods: A monoclonal antibody specific to human CKAP2 was produced, and immunohistochemistry was performed on normal tissue array sections and 30 breast cancer tissues. Results: The expression of CKAP2 in the normal human tissues was limited to well-known cell proliferation zones. Strong, readily visible, condensed chromatin staining of CKAP2 was observed specifically in mitotic cells, and the number of these cells was tightly correlated with the MF count in breast cancer tissues ( P < 0.001, ρ = 0.743), suggesting its usefulness as a surrogate marker for MF counting. Conclusion: Immunohistochemical staining with CKAP2 monoclonal antibody can be considered to be a new, effective approach to the assessment of proliferation activity in cancer tissues. In order to achieve an oriental lacquer (OL) film with a thick consistency, UV-curable silicone acrylate (SA) was added to OL by a dual curing process. The addition of 5 wt% UV-curable SA to the OL formulation enabled the preparation via a single drying step of a 77 μm-thick film exhibiting excellent surface properties. FTIRATR was used to investigate the effect of UV-curable SA on the behavior of film formation during curing, and the relaxation behavior of the produced films was investigated by dielectric spectroscopy. Dielectric properties were measured in the frequency range 10-10 Hz at various temperatures between −100 and 200 °C. The results demonstrated that OL modified by UV-curable SA has a higher glass transition temperature and stronger secondary relaxation at a lower temperature than the conventional OL system. The vinyl group containing polymer was synthesized via radical polymerization of acrylic monomers followed by reaction with methacrylic oxyethyl isocyanate(MOI). Stable dispersions of the vinyl group containing polymer, pentaerythritol triacrylate(PETA) and photo initiator were prepared by neutralization of the above synthesized polymer with lactic acid. Electro-deposition process was introduced to apply UV-curable acrylic dispersion into the nickel-plated plastic substrate. The prepared dispersion containing PETA has higher particle size and higher deposition yield than those of the dispersion without PETA. The electro-deposited film was cross-linked by UV radiation after 10 minutes flash-off stage at 80 °C. The kinetic study by real-time FT-IR revealed that the cross-linked films containing PETA gave higher conversion than those without PETA resulting in harder film. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
