Consuming pomegranate juice (PJ) is beneficial for hypertensive regulation because of the phenolic compounds in PJ and their inhibitory activity on angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE). To better utilize bioactive function of food, microorganism fermentation has been adopted to alter phenolic metabolism. This study confirms that even under in vitro digestion, fermented PJ (FPJ) maintains higher ACE inhibitory activity than that of PJ. The main phenolic compounds in PJ were compared either under fermentation or in vitro digestion. This study finds that fermentation promotes antioxidant capacity of PJ. The chemical properties of FPJ are evaluated and the corresponding relationship with bioactivities is analyzed. A sensory evaluation comparison is conducted between FPJ and PJ, furnishing interesting information for consumers. This study highlights the relationship between ACE inhibitory activity of PJ and phenolic composition under fermentation and in vitro digestion, providing novel insights for diet regulation of phenolic-rich FPJ in ACE inhibition therapy. Temperature has an important influence on plant growth and development. In protected agriculture production, accurate prediction of temperature environment is of great significance. However, due to the time series, nonlinear and multi coupling characteristics of temperature, it is difficult to achieve accurate prediction. We proposed a method for building a solar greenhouse temperature prediction model based on a timeseries analysis, that considers the time series characteristics and dynamic temperature changes in the greenhouse system. The method would predict the temperature of greenhouse, and provide reference for the temperature change law in protected agriculture. A parameter analysis was performed on the nonlinear autoregressive exogenous (NARX) neural network, and a solar greenhouse temperature time series prediction model was established using the NARX regression neural network. The results showed that the proposed model depicted a maximum absolute error of 0.67 °C, and model correlation coefficient of 0.9996. Compared with the wavelet and BP neural networks, the NARX regression neural network accurately predicted and significantly outperformed in the solar greenhouse temperature prediction model. Moreover, the prediction model can accurately predict temperature trends within the solar greenhouse and is pivotal to obtaining precise control of solar greenhouse temperature. Long term regular intake of black tea (BT) can lower blood pressure, which is probably due to its antioxidant activity and angiotensin converting enzymes (ACE) inhibitory activity. This study achieves a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between bioactive compounds of BT and its ACE inhibitory activity and antioxidant activity. Phenolic compounds are closely related to antioxidant activity and ACE inhibitory activity. Catechin (C) exhibits stronger inhibitory activity on ACE enzyme than that of other compounds. Molecular docking demonstrates that C could directly bind to ACE active site pockets and Zn(II). Other bioactive compounds are involved in antioxidant and ACE inhibitory activity in varying degrees but no obvious trend is established. Our study proposes a conjecture that some bioactive compounds of BT regulate antioxidant defenses through mechanisms that involve ACE. Royal jelly produced by nurse bees from tea tree (tea royal jelly) is a special bee product in China and it is popular with consumers owing to its multiple healthcare functions. However, the volatile compound profile of tea royal jelly has not been investigated. To obtain a comprehensive understanding of volatile compound profile of tea royal jelly, a method based on headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC-MS) and chemometric analysis was applied. Moreover, two royal jelly samples produced from pagoda tree were also investigated to reveal the difference in volatile compounds between royal jelly produced from tea tree and other plants. A total of 66 volatile compounds were identified in tea royal jelly, including 16 alkanes, 14 aldehydes, 9 alcohols, 9 ketones, 8 esters and lactones, 5 phenols, 2 organic acids, and 3 other compounds, and most of them were discovered in royal jelly for the first time. Notably, α-ionone, an important aroma compound in tea, was first identified in tea royal jelly. Moreover, the result of chemometric analysis indicates a significant difference on volatile compound profile between royal jelly produced from tea and pagoda trees. To sum up, 35 differential compounds were identified and they could well distinguish royal jelly samples. Our data offers the first characterization of volatile compound profile of tea royal jelly and significantly expands the knowledge of volatile compounds in royal jelly. Apples (Malus pumila Mill.) are widely cultivated in 95 countries and regions around the globe. China is the world's largest producer of apples. Prediction of apple yield in the context of climate change has become an important topic of research. The study sites in this investigation include 28 apple-producing base counties located in the Shaanxi province of the northwest Loess Plateau. In this study, grey relational analysis was used to examine 88 climatic factors and to extract those factors that significantly influence the meteorological yield (MY) of apples. A support vector machine (SVM) was used to make a quantitative prediction of changes in MY in the apple-producing areas of Shaanxi province from the years 2000–2099 under 2 climate change scenarios, RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5. In addition, fuzzy information granulation was used to analyze the variation trends and variation spaces of MY from 2020 to 2049 and 2050 to 2099, compared with the 1990–2019 reference period. The results showed that for the 10-day and monthly climatic factors affecting the MY of apples, climate resource factors are more influential than meteorological disaster factors and spring factors are significantly more influential than other seasonal factors. Overall, there are more and broader climate resource factors affecting MY, and spring climatic conditions are more important for it. In the RCP 4.5 scenario, 9 base counties showed slight decreases, 2 counties showed significant decreases, 15 counties maintained or had slightly increased, and 2 counties showed significant increases. The variation of unit yield was − 1.44–1.85 t/ha. In the RCP 8.5 scenario, 10 base counties showed slight decreases, 2 counties showed significant decreases, 12 counties maintained or had slightly increased, and 4 counties showed significant increases. The Trigonidiidae, a family of crickets, comprises 981 valid species with only one mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequenced to date. To explore mitogenome features of Trigonidiidae, six mitogenomes from its two subfamilies (Nemobiinae and Trigonidiinae) were determined. Two types of gene rearrangements involving a trnN-trnS1-trnE inversion and a trnV shuffling were shared by Trigonidiidae. A long intergenic spacer was observed between trnQ and trnM in Trigonidiinae (210−369 bp) and Nemobiinae (80–216 bp), which was capable of forming extensive stem-loop secondary structures in Trigonidiinae but not in Nemobiinae. The anticodon of trnS1 was TCT in Trigonidiinae, rather than GCT in Nemobiinae and other related subfamilies. There was no overlap between nad4 and nad4l in Dianemobius, as opposed to a conserved 7-bp overlap commonly found in insects. Furthermore, combined comparative analysis and transcript verification revealed that nad1 transcripts ended with a U, corresponding to the T immediately preceding a conserved motif GAGAC in the superfamily Grylloidea, plus poly-A tails. The resultant UAA served as a stop codon for species lacking full stop codons upstream of the motif. Purpose: Quizartinib, a potent, selective FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) inhibitor, is currently in phase 3 development for patients with FLT3-internal tandem duplication-mutated acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Acid-reducing agents (ARAs; e.g., proton pump inhibitors) are frequently used during AML treatment. Since quizartinib demonstrates pH-dependent solubility, the effect of lansoprazole coadministration on pharmacokinetics (PK) of quizartinib tablet formulation was assessed.Methods: An open-label, parallel-group study randomized 64 healthy adults to single-dose quizartinib 30 mg alone (reference) or lansoprazole (60 mg once daily, days 1-5) + single-dose quizartinib 30 mg (day 5) (test). Plasma concentrations of quizartinib and its active metabolite, AC886, were measured to 504 h postdose; the effect of lansoprazole on quizartinib PK was assessed by analysis of variance.Results: Quizartinib geometric mean ratios (test/reference) and 90% confidence intervals for maximum observed plasma concentration (Cmax), area under the concentration-time curve to last measurable drug concentration (AUClast), and AUC to infinity were 86.11% (78.4%, 94.6%), 93.96% (79.6%, 110.9%), and 95.30% (80.2%, 113.3%), respectively. Comparisons showed a modest decrease in quizartinib absorption when co-administered with lansoprazole, with lower limits for Cmax and AUClast just below 80-125% limits. Treatment-emergent adverse events were mild or moderate; the most frequent in either treatment group were headache [quizartinib alone: (n = 3) 10%], upper respiratory tract infection [quizartinib alone: (n = 2) 6.7%; lansoprazole + quizartinib: (n = 3) 9.1%], and muscle tightness [quizartinib alone: (n = 2) 6.7%].Conclusions: Concomitant lansoprazole had minimal effect on quizartinib PK as a formulated tablet, indicating that quizartinib can be administered with ARAs. The genetic selection of a high royal jelly (RJ)-producing strain of bees (RJBs) from Italian bees (ITBs) has been conducted for nearly four decades in China since the 1980s. RJBs are the most important producers of RJ in the world and produce > 90% of the total output with an annual market value of > $40 million. With technological advancements in proteomics, the mechanism underpinning the high RJ production by RJBs has been explored to new depths in the last decades. Here, we give an overview that the mechanism driving the enhanced performance of RJ secretion by RJBs. First, the selection of RJBs, high-efficiency technology for RJ production, and advances in genetic characterization of RJBs are reviewed. Then, proteome and phosphoproteome characterization that decipher the augmented RJ production using honeybee organs and tissues are summarized. This may be potentially useful in gaining a complete mechanistic insight into the high performance of RJ yields in honeybees, and expands understanding of the honeybee biology. The success of a landed space exploration depends largely on the final landing site, and the most important factor of landing site selection is the safety of lander, so, hazard detection and avoidance are crucial during asteroid landing. Many approaches have been proposed at present, most of them just detect hazard and select an area that is free of hazard threaten, however, in some cases, the selected site should not be the places that located in closed environment, such as the inner of crater. To tackle the issue, an approach for selecting landing site with closed environment avoidance based on a single image during optical coarse hazard detection was proposed in this paper, the approach was designed under the scheme of Chang’e-3’s landing process. The approach begins with hazard detection based on a proposed binary method. And then, for searching the candidate circular landing areas, the skeletons of areas with no hazard are taken into account, and then, control constraints are considered to select the landing areas that are accessible by the lander. Finally, the final selected circular landing area are chosen by a proposed scoring method, this method combines the factors of circular areas, including radius, the connection among circular areas, circular area’s texture and the cluster relation between circular area’s center and all the hazard. Here we use a two-layer model to study the dynamics of the intrusion of the Kuroshio onto the continental shelf. Results show that the interaction of the Kuroshio water and shelf water produces a stable upwelling zone above 100 m depth northeast of Taiwan, which provides a dynamical explanation to the presence of the cold core previously observed by satellite. The affected shelf water from the interaction has an onshore portion, which turns right and becomes a northward alongshore flow when it moves closer to shore. This implies that the Kuroshio water cannot penetrate deep onto the inner part of the continental shelf, but it generates a strong northward jet that is formed mainly by the shelf water. Cystatin C (CysC) is a cysteine protease inhibitor and previous studies have demonstrated that increasing endogenous CysC expression has therapeutic implications on brain ischemia, Alzheimer's disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders. Our previous reports have demonstrated that the autophagy pathway was activated in the brain after experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and it may play a beneficial role in early brain injury (EBI). This study investigated the effects of exogenous CysC on EBI, cognitive dysfunction, and the autophagy pathway following experimental SAH. All SAH animals were subjected to injections of 0.3 ml fresh arterial, nonheparinized blood into the prechiasmatic cistern in 20 s. As a result, treatment with CysC with low and medial concentrations significantly ameliorated the degree of EBI when compared with vehicle-treated SAH rats. Microtubule-associated protein light chain-3 (LC3), a biomarker of autophagosomes, and beclin-1, a Bcl-2-interacting protein required for autophagy, were significantly increased in the cortex 48 h after SAH and were further up-regulated after CysC therapy. By ultrastructural observation, there was a marked increase in autophagosomes and autolysosomes in neurons of CysC-treated rats. Learning deficits induced by SAH were markedly alleviated after CysC treatment with medial doses. In conclusion, pre-SAH CysC administration may attenuate EBI and neurobehavioral dysfunction in this SAH model, possibly through activating autophagy pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A major disadvantage of cyclodextrin production is the limited cyclodextrin product specificity of cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (CGTase). Here, we described mutations of Asp372 and Tyr89 at subsite −3 in the CGTase from Paenibacillus macerans strain JFB05-01. The results showed that Asp372 and Tyr89 played important roles in cyclodextrin product specificity of CGTase. The replacement of Asp372 by lysine and Tyr89 by aspartic acid, asparagine, lysine, and arginine resulted in a shift in specificity towards the production of α-cyclodextrin, which was most apparent for the mutants D372K and Y89R. Furthermore, the changes in cyclodextrin product specificity for the single mutants D372K and Y89R could be combined in the double mutant D372K/Y89R, which displayed a 1.5-fold increase in the production of α-cyclodextrin, with a concomitant 43% decrease in the production of β-cyclodextrin when compared to the wild-type CGTase. Thus, the D372K and Y89R single and double mutants were much more suitable for the industrial production of α-cyclodextrin than the wild-type enzyme. The magnetic field in an accretion disk is estimated assuming that all of the angular momentum within prescribed accretion disk radii is removed by a jet. The magnetic field estimated at the base of the jet is extrapolated to the blazar emission region using a model for a relativistic axisymmetric jet combined with some simplifying assumptions based on the relativistic nature of the flow. The extrapolated magnetic field is compared with estimates based upon the synchrotron and inverse Compton emission from three blazars, MKN 501, MKN 421 and PKS 2155-304. The magnetic fields evaluated from pure synchrotron self-Compton models are inconsistent with the magnetic fields extrapolated in this way. However, in two cases inverse Compton models in which a substantial part of the soft photon field is generated locally agree well, mainly because these models imply magnetic field strengths consistent with an important Poynting Flux component. This comparison is based on estimating the mass accretion rate from the jet energy flux. Further comparisons along these lines will be facilitated by independent estimates of the mass accretion rate in blazars and by more detailed models for jet propagation near the black hole. DNA cassette containing an AtDREB1A cDNA and a nos terminator, driven by a cauliflower mosaic 35S promoter, or a stress-inducible rd29A promoter, was transformed into the ground cover chrysanthemum ( Dendranthema grandiflorum) ‘Fall Color’ genome. Compared with wild type plants, severe growth retardation was observed in 35S: DREB1A plants, but not in rd29A:DREB1A plants. RT-PCR analysis revealed that, under stress conditions, the DREB1A gene was over-expressed constitutively in 35S: DREB1A plants, but was over-expressed inductively in rd29A:DREB1A plants. The transgenic plants exhibited tolerance to drought and salt stress, and the tolerance was significantly stronger in rd29A:DREB1A plants than in 35S: DREB1A plants. Proline content and SOD activity were increased inductively in rd29A:DREB1A plants than in 35S: DREB1A plants under stress conditions. These results indicate that heterologous AtDREB1A can confer drought and salt tolerance in transgenic chrysanthemum, and improvement of the stress tolerance may be related to enhancement of proline content and SOD activity. Rationalized by the observational circulation pattern in the upper ocean of the North Pacific, meridional friction term is first incorporated in a barotropic theoretical model of the wind-driven circulation. The governing potential vorticity equation thence has β term and wind stress curl term (the two of the Sverdrup balance), zonal friction term and meridional friction term. The analytical solution satisfactorily captures many important features of the wind-driven circulation in the North Pacific: Kuroshio, Oyashio, Kuroshio extension, North Equatorial Current, and especially the eastern boundary currents in the North Pacific, i.e. California current and Alaska current. The ancient record, “During the first year of King Yi, the day dawned twice at Zheng”, has provided important clues to early Chinese chronicles. The astronomical conditions and visible area distributions related to such a “double dawn” event are discussed, and the precision and current problems in the calculations of ancient astronomical phenomena are shown. On such a basis, all the solar eclipses from 1000 BC to 840 BC are calculated and their associated “double dawn” features investigated. The conclusion that the “double dawn” was a solar eclipse occurring on April 21st, 899 BC is corfirmed to be the most reasonable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
