Background: Migraine is one of the most common diseases worldwide while current treatment options are not ideal. New therapeutic classes of migraine, the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) antagonists, have been developed and shown considerable effectiveness and safety. The present study aimed to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of atogepant, a CGRP antagonist, for migraine prophylaxis from the results of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Methods: The Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed and https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ were searched for RCTs that compared atogepant with placebo for migraine prophylaxis from inception of the databases to Feb 1, 2024. Outcome data involving efficacy and safety were combined and analyzed using Review Manager Software version 5.3 (RevMan 5.3). For each outcome, risk ratios (RRs) or standardized mean difference (SMD) were calculated. Results: 4 RCTs with a total of 2813 subjects met our inclusion criteria. The overall effect estimate showed that atogepant was significantly superior to placebo in terms of the reduction of monthly migraine (SMD − 0.40, 95% CI -0.46 to -0.34) or headache (SMD − 0.39, 95% CI -0.46 to -0.33) days, the reduction of acute medication use days (SMD − 0.45, 95% CI -0.51 to -0.39) and 50% responder rate (RR 1.66, 95% CI 1.46 to 1.89), while no dose-related improvements were found between different dosage groups. For the safety, significant number of patients experienced treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) with atogepant than with placebo (RR 1.10, 95% CI 1.02–1.21) while there was no obvious difference between the five dosage groups. Most TEAEs involved constipation (RR 2.55, 95% CI 1.91–3.41), nausea (RR 2.19, 95% CI 1.67–2.87) and urinary tract infection (RR 1.49, 95% CI 1.05–2.11). In addition, a high dosage of atogepant may also increase the risk of treatment-related TEAEs (RR 1.64, 95% CI 1.02–2.63) and fatigue (RR 3.07, 95% CI 1.13–8.35). Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests that atogepant is effective and tolerable for migraine prophylaxis including episodic or chronic migraine compared with placebo. It is critical to weigh the benefits of different doses against the risk of adverse events in clinical application of atogepant. This study aimed to examine the characteristics and treatment outcomes of patients with TP53-mutant acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and to explore potential prognostic factors. This retrospective analysis included 130 patients diagnosed with TP53-mutant AML at the Fujian Medical University Union Hospital between January 2016 and June 2023. Patients' ages ranged from 17 to 80 years, with a median age of 59 years. The proportions of de novo, therapy-related, and secondary AML cases were 71.5%, 7.7%, and 20.8%, respectively. Complex karyotypes were observed in 60.6% of patients, and the proportions of -5 or del(5q), -7 or del(7q), and − 17 or del(17p) were 41.7%, 27.9% and 14.4%, respectively. DNA methylation- and myelodysplasia-related (MR) gene mutations were observed in 36.9% and 25.4% of patients, respectively. These patients showed poor survival, with a median overall survival (OS) of 4.5 months, a 1-year OS rate of 32.5%, a 3-year OS rate of 18.8%, and a 5-year OS rate of 11.3%. The complete response rates for intensive chemotherapy (IC), hypomethylating agent (HMAs)-based therapies, and azacitidine plus venetoclax were 35.7%, 22.2%, and 37.5%, respectively. Patients who did or did not receive allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) had similar prognoses (median OS: 6.0 vs. 3.9 months; P = 0.6415). Multivariate analysis indicated that MR gene mutations is an independent favorable prognostic factor of OS (HR = 0.366, 95% CI: 0.181–0.738, P = 0.005). In conclusion, patients with TP53-mutant AML have poor prognoses under current treatment strategies and MR gene mutations are associated with a more favorable survival. The antibacterial activity of Cinnamaldehyde against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Bovine Mastitis is investigated in this study, providing insights into inhibition mechanisms and elucidating the effects on bacterial cell membranes. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration were determined in this study. In addition, growth curves and a time-kill assay were constructed to assess the antibacterial activity of Cinnamaldehyde. The study revealed that the MIC values ranged from 62.5 to 125 μg/mL, and the MBC values ranged from 125 to 250 μg/mL. The presence of sublethal concentrations of Cinnamaldehyde impeded bacterial growth, while high concentrations demonstrated a significant and rapid bactericidal effect. Subsequently, we examined cell morphology using SEM and TEM, evaluated membrane integrity via laser confocal fluorescence microscopy, and measured levels of β-galactosidase, extracellular DNA release, LDH activity, and ROS, to assess the antibacterial mechanism of Cinnamaldehyde. The findings indicated that with higher concentrations of Cinnamaldehyde, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus demonstrated significant morphological alterations and disruption of both the cell wall and membrane. Furthermore, Cinnamaldehyde disrupted the integrity of membranes and increased permeability of the outer membrane in a manner dependent on its concentration. Cinnamaldehyde notably triggered the release of β-galactosidase, extracellular DNA, and LDH, in addition to elevating cellular ROS levels. Finally, the effect of Cinnamaldehyde on the transcription levels of genes related to cell membrane synthesis was assessed using RT-qPCR, and the effect of Cinnamaldehyde on the total protein content of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus cells was assessed using WB. The RT-qPCR results showed that Cinnamaldehyde at 1xMIC notably upregulated the transcription levels of genes related to fatty acid biosynthesis in Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus cell membranes, with a significant or highly significant effect. The WB results showed that Cinnamaldehyde exerts its antibacterial action by suppressing protein expression in Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. These findings illustrate that Cinnamaldehyde exerts a potent inhibitory effect on Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, establishing a fundamental foundation for the potential use of Cinnamaldehyde essential oil as an antibacterial agent in the treatment of bovine mastitis, in accordance with established scientific standards. Cigarette smoking, as a significant public health problem worldwide, deserves more attention. This research intended to assess the prevalence rate of smoking among college students self-identified as lesbian or gay, examine whether depression mediated the association between social support and smoking, and explore whether disclosure moderated the indirect effect of the mediation model. All data were collected by online questionnaires, yielding a total of 1,109 homosexual college students involved in the analysis. A moderated mediation analysis was adopted to uncover the connection between social support, depression, and cigarette smoking, with disclosure as the moderator. The prevalence of smoking was 7.4%, and lesbian females (12.5%) were more likely to report smoking than gay males (5.2%). Depression fully mediated the effects of social support on cigarette smoking (coefficient ab = −0.0097, 95% Boot CI: −0.0174 to −0.0029), accounting for 97.0% of the total effect. Further moderated mediation analyses revealed the indirect effect of depression was statistically significant in both disclosed (effect = 0.0737, 95% Boot CI: 0.0005 to 0.1502) and non-disclosed groups (effect = −0.0109, 95% Boot CI: −0.0183 to −0.0039). The prevalence of smoking among homosexual college students in China should not be neglected, especially among lesbian students. As there are no targeted medicines or vaccines for newly emerging infectious diseases, isolation among communities (villages, cities, or countries) is one of the most effective intervention measures. As such, the number of intercommunity edges (NIE ) becomes one of the most important factor in isolating a place since it is closely related to normal life. Unfortunately, how NIE affects epidemic spread is still poorly understood. In this paper, we quantitatively analyzed the impact of NIE on infectious disease transmission by establishing a four-dimensional SIR edge-based compartmental model with two communities. The basic reproduction number R 0 (⟨ l ⟩) is explicitly obtained subject to NIE ⟨ l ⟩ . Furthermore, according to R 0 (0) with zero NIE , epidemics spread could be classified into two cases. When R 0 (0) > 1 for the case 2, epidemics occur with at least one of the reproduction numbers within communities greater than one, and otherwise when R 0 (0) < 1 for case 1, both reproduction numbers within communities are less than one. Remarkably, in case 1, whether epidemics break out strongly depends on intercommunity edges. Then, the outbreak threshold in regard to NIE is also explicitly obtained, below which epidemics vanish, and otherwise break out. The above two cases form a severity-based hierarchical intervention scheme for epidemics. It is then applied to the SARS outbreak in Singapore, verifying the validity of our scheme. In addition, the final size of the system is gained by demonstrating the existence of positive equilibrium in a four-dimensional coupled system. Theoretical results are also validated through numerical simulation in networks with the Poisson and Power law distributions, respectively. Background: Most women suffer from perineal trauma during childbirth, whether it is natural tears or episiotomy. Objectives: To perform a systematic review and network meta-analysis investigating the effectiveness of different PFMT relevant strategies in the prevention of perineal trauma. Search strategy: PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, CINAHL, CNKI, CBM, WANFANG DATABASE, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched for citations published in any language from inception to 1 July 2021. Selection criteria: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of PFMT relevant prevention strategies for preventing perineal trauma during childbirth. Data collection and analysis: Data were independently extracted by two reviewers. Relative treatment effects were estimated using network meta-analysis (NMA). Main results: Of 12 632 citations searched, 21 RCTs were included. Comparing with usual care, "PFMT combine with perineal massage" and PFMT alone showed more superiority in intact perineum (RR = 5.37, 95% CI: 3.79 to 7.60, moderate certainty; RR = 2.58, 95% CI 1.34–4.97, moderate certainty, respectively), episiotomy (RR = 0.26, 95% CI 0.14–0.49, very low certainty; RR = 0.63, 95% CI 0.45–0.90, very low certainty, respectively), and OASIS (RR = 0.35, 95% CI 0.16–0.78, moderate certainty; RR = 0.49, 95% CI 0.28–0.85, high certainty, respectively). "PFMT combine with perineal massage" showed superiority in reducing perineal tear (RR = 0.41, 95% CI 0.20–0.85, moderate certainty). Existing studies have explored the potential contributions of the Internet and smartphone use to agricultural production and environmental governance. However, there is a lack of in-depth exploration of the internal mechanism of smartphone use influencing farmers' decision-making. Based on survey data of farmers in the Hubei and Henan provinces, this study uses the endogenous switching probit model to empirically test the impact of smartphone use on farmers' willingness to participate in the centralized treatment of rural domestic sewage (WTP-RDSCT). The results of the study showed that 63.71% of the samples used smartphones, and 73.62% of the sampled farmers were willing to participate in rural domestic sewage-centralized treatment. Smartphone use can increase WTP-RDSCT by an average of 29.6%, and there is a positive correlation between use intensity and WTP-RDSCT. In addition to the direct impact, smartphone use also indirectly affects WTP-RDSCT through the intermediary effects of information search costs, environmental awareness and social capital. In addition, the information presentation form (video and text) has a significant positive impact on WTP-RDSCT, and the impact of the presentation form of video is greater than that of text. Based on the successful experience of pesticide reduction in China, this study uses survey data from Hubei Province to measure rice farmers' technology preferences for pesticide reduction considering their needs, and compare the heterogeneous factors influencing farmers' adoption behavior. The results show that large-scale farmers prefer drone services and efficient machinery, while small-scale farmers prefer scientific standards and biopesticides for pesticide reduction. Second, farmers' adoption behavior of pesticide reduction technologies is mostly influenced by education, risk attitude, income, agricultural labor, scale, rice price, residue testing, brand, training, subsidy, and demonstration. Among them, education, risk attitude, scale, rice price, cost, and training, significantly affect farmers' adoption level of multiple pesticide reduction technologies. Further, higher rice prices and participation in training could promote the use of pesticide reduction technologies in a larger area by farmers. Therefore, the real needs of farmers should be focused on the promotion of pesticide reduction technologies, and pesticide reduction programs in different regions should carry out precise intervention policies. Genetic heterogeneity plays an important role in exploring the interplays of microorganisms. Competitive exclusion principle is the main principle that governs causative agentries of diseases competition. Identifying coexistence mechanisms is a core issue for studying the interactions of multi-strains. In this paper, we are concerned with the dynamics of a two-strain SIS epidemic model with general incidence rate on complex networks. We derive the basic reproduction numbers and the invasion reproduction numbers associated with each strain, which determine the competitive, exclusion and coexistence of the two strains. We strictly prove that the competitive exclusion principle holds in a global sense and the endemic equilibrium coexists uniquely and globally. Although the beneficial effects of the agricultural extension of farmers' biopesticides adoption have been largely demonstrated, the questions of what approaches can better extend biopesticides and how to improve their effectiveness still need to be explored. In a survey of 1148 rice farmers in Hubei Province, China, the technology supply and demand theory is used to explain the low efficiency of biopesticides extension. The endogenous switching probit model is used to estimate the impact of biopesticides technology publicity, training, demonstration and subsidies on farmers' adoption. The results show that biopesticides extension can promote rice farmers' adoption probability by 10.3 ~ 11.7%. And technology demonstration is currently the best way to extend biopesticides. Moreover, inadequate supply and demand of biopesticides are important for explaining the inefficiency of biopesticides extension in China. Extending biopesticides is better for farmers with smaller scales, younger ages, and lower education and for those who are cooperative members. Therefore, we should not only actively conduct biopesticides demonstration but also more importantly induce farmers' biopesticides demand and secure the market supply of biopesticide products. Coordinated phytohormone signal transduction, in which repressors are the key players, is essential to balance plant development and stress response. In the absence of phytohormones, repressors interplay to terminate the transcription of phytohormone-responsive genes. For phytohormone signal transduction, degradation or inactivation of the repressors is a prerequisite, a process in which proteasomal degradation or protein modifications, such as phosphorylation, are involved. In this review, we summarize the various repressor proteins and their methods of regulation. In addition, we also shed light on other post-transcriptional modifications, including protein sumoylation, acetylation, methylation, and S-nitrosylation, which might be involved in repressor regulation. We conclude that repressors are the gatekeepers of phytohormone signaling, allowing transcription of phytohormone-responsive genes only when required and thus serving as a universal mechanism to conserve energy in plants. Finally, we strongly recommend that plant research should be focused further on elucidating the mechanisms regulating repressor abundance or activity, to improve our understanding of phytohormone signal transduction. In response to global climate change, the Chinese Government has taken numerous measures to promote low-carbon management practices, but the overall adoption rate has been lower than expected. Empirical studies on the path dependence of farming experience, that is, long-standing planting concepts that will hinder farmers from adopting new technologies, have not been reported. Hence, to fill the research gaps, this paper uses survey data from 805 rice farmers in Zhejiang, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces, China, to examine the impact of farming experience on the adoption of soil testing and fertilizer recommendations. The results show that farming experience significantly negatively affects the adoption of low-carbon practices, especially among farmers with low resource endowment. However, farmers, who make decisions based jointly on farming experience and social networks, are more likely to adopt low-carbon practices. This means that as long as farming experience is used reasonably, for example, by broadening the social network of farmers and urging them to form a decision-making method that comprehensively utilizes farming experience and social networks, it can also demonstrate value. Pesticide overuse is still prevalent in many developing countries. And improving farmers' pest control ability is considered to be the key to achieve pesticide reduction. Based on the survey data of 822 rice farmers from Hubei, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang provinces in the Yangtze River Basin, we demonstrated the impact of pest control ability and technical guidance on farmers' pesticide overuse. We find that rice farmers' insufficient pest control ability does not necessarily lead to pesticide overuse, which depends on whether there is external technical guidance. The technical guidance of government agrotechnical stations and pesticide retailers can weaken pesticide overuse caused by lack of personal ability. In terms of sample, variable and method substitution, the above estimated results are still robust. In addition, we find that different subjects and links of pesticide technical guidance will bring different impacts. The technical guidance of agrotechnical stations mainly plays a role in the time and type of pesticide application, while the pesticide retailers mainly play a role in the time and dosage of pesticide application. This paper emphasizes that strengthening the guidance and regulation of pesticide technology guidance subject is also an efficient way of pesticide reduction. This paper explores the internal transmission mechanism and influence of political participation and village support on farmers' happiness based on an analysis of data from a micro survey of farmers. The research uses the big surname identity as a tool variable to estimate the influence of political participation on farmers' happiness within the unified framework of CMP and Bioprobit, and adopts a propensity score matching method to construct a counterfactual framework to correct possible selectivity bias. The empirical results show that, firstly, there is a significant positive effect of political participation and village support on the happiness of farmers. Secondly, except for the direct impact on happiness, political participation indirectly affects happiness through village support by playing an intermediary role between political participation and happiness. Thirdly, given the heterogeneity among farmers, political participation has a more significant effect on the happiness of high-income, male, young farmers, while village support has a more pronounced effect on the happiness of low-income, male, older farmers. The influence of farmers' production experience on pesticide overuse is empirically analyzed by an endogenous switching probit model of pesticide use time, type, and dosage, based on survey data of 836 rice farmers in the Yangtze River Basin of China. We find that farmers' production experience is an important cause of pesticide overuse, especially for small-scale farmers. Older, self-sufficient, small-scale, non-cooperative members and rice farmers with distant market towns are more likely to use pesticides based on their personal experience. In terms of pesticide use time, type, and dosage, 35.26%, 30.10%, and 28.52% of the samples, respectively, relied on a decision based on "experience." Among them, farmers' decision-making based on production experience for pesticide type and dosage are the key causes of pesticide overuse. Three-dimensional porous sponge with good mechanical strength, high absorption capacity and recyclability is of scientific and technological interest. In this work, graphene oxide has been incorporated into poly(vinyl alcohol)–chitosan sponge during acetalization reaction of poly(vinyl alcohol) for the fabrication of macroporous and amphiphilic sponges. Mercury intrusion porosimetry and scanning electron microscopy indicate that the as-prepared sponges have interconnected open-cell structures. The incorporation of graphene oxide and the interconnected macroporous structures in the amphiphilic sponges endow them with improved absorption capacity for both water and organic liquids. Moreover, the absorbed liquids can be effectively collected through simple squeezing and the sponges can be used repeatedly while maintaining a relative high absorption capacity. The simple fabrication and improved performance of the resulting sponges suggest that they have potential industrial applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A multicenter retrospective study in 131 patients (44 females/87 males) with hematological disorders who underwent G-CSF-primed/haplo-identical (Haplo-ID) (n = 76) or HLA-identical (HLA-ID) HSCT (n = 55) from February 2013 to February 2016 was conducted to compare the incidence and risk factors for pre-engraftment bloodstream infection (PE-BSI). In the Haplo-ID group, 71/76 patients with high-risk (n = 28) or relapsed/refractory hematological malignancies (n = 43) received FA5-BUCY conditioning (NCT02328950). All received trimethoprim–sulfamethoxazole (TMP–SMX) prophylaxis. Blood cultures and catheter tip cultures were obtained to confirm the BSI. PE-BSI was detected in 24/131 HSCT patients (18/76 in Haplo-ID and 6/55 in HLA-ID) after 28 febrile neutropenic episodes. Among 28 isolates for the 24 patients, 21 (75%) were Gneg bacteria, 6 (21.4%) Gpos and 1 (3.6%) fungi. Bacteria sources were central venous line infection (7/29.2%), gastroenteritis (6/25%), lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI; 5/20.8%), perianal skin infection (4/16.7%), and unknown (2/8.3%). The duration of neutropenia (P = 0.046) and previous Gneg bacteremia (P = 0.037) were important risk factors by univariate analysis, while the type of HSCT was not. A trend of TMP–SMX-resistant BSI in both groups may be due to routine antibacterial prophylaxis strategies. Our data show that G-CSF-primed Haplo-ID HSCT did not increase the risk of PE-BSI, even with intensive immunosuppressive treatments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Emerging evidence suggests that the stress hormone abscisic acid (ABA) is also involved in the floral transition control. The transcription factors ABA INSENSITIVE4 (ABI4) and ABI5 negatively regulate flowering by directly promoting FLOWERING LOCUS C expression, and ABI3 also negatively regulates the floral transition. However, the genetic relationships between ABI4 and both ABI5 and ABI3 remain elusive. Here, we generated transgenic plants overexpressing ABI4 in the abi5 (OE-ABI4::abi5) and abi3 backgrounds (OE-ABI4::abi3). The flowering phenotypic analysis demonstrated that OE-ABI4::abi5 and OE-ABI4::abi3 plants exhibited delayed flowering. This research is based on a questionnaire of 556 peasant households in the Jianghan Plain. By analyzing the rate of participation of peasant households using a participation model, this study intends to explain the peasant household's willingness to participate in disaster reduction and factors that influence willingness to participate. The investigation of participation rate revealed that households are generally concerned about engineering measures used for disaster reduction, but the willingness to participate is not strong; the peasant household's attention to recommendations for non-engineering disaster reduction is high, but the willingness to participate is very low. The quantitative analysis of the participation model of disaster reduction showed that the level of peasant household's willingness to participate in engineering and non-engineering disaster reduction was dependent upon their attitude toward a variety of measures of risk and the input costs of disaster reduction. The cognition of a disaster's impact, fertility level of farmland, condition of irrigation canals, and amount of arable land have a remarkable influence on the willingness to participate in engineering and non-engineering disaster reduction. Age of household and joining cooperating organizations do not influence the willingness to participate in engineering and non-engineering disaster reduction. On the other hand, the education level, professional skills, and family size influence on one dimension of disaster reduction, but do not influence another dimension of disaster reduction. Higher moments (kurtosis ( κ), skewness ( S) and variance ( σ2)) of multiplicity distributions are sensitive to the correlation length and can be used to search for the QCD critical point. The moment products κσ2 and Sσ of net-proton distributions, which are also related to volume independent baryon number susceptibility ratios, can be compared with Lattice QCD and Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) model calculations. Higher moments of event-by-event net-proton multiplicity distributions have been applied to search for the QCD critical point. Model results are used to provide a baseline for this search. The measured moment products, κσ and Sσ of net-proton distributions, which are directly connected to the thermodynamical baryon number susceptibility ratio in Lattice QCD and Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) model, are compared to the transport and thermal model results. Abstract: Despite lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) adults have elevated risk for e-cigarette use compared with heterosexual ones, there is a dearth of evidence about mechanisms by which they acquire elevated risk in China. The study explores correlates and within-gender differences towards current e-cigarette use among LGB college students. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify correlates of current e-cigarette use. Additionally, we examined differences between males and females in these correlates. Of 1635 participants self-identified as LGB, approximately 3.2% were current e-cigarette users with no significant difference between males (2.3%) and females (4.5%). Depression and perceived friends’ support may increase likelihood of current e-cigarette use in LGB females, whereas that of males may be linked with violence-related stress and be protected by family’s support. Prevention and intervention programs tailored for this subpopulation should consider gender differences in sexual minority-specific and psychosocial factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
