Background: The purpose of this paper is to do a cross-sectional analysis to evaluate the impact of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic on Dental Match Residency statistics from the year 2019–2023. Methods: The Dental Match Residency statistics available from the Dental Match website were analyzed from years 2019–2023 to evaluate the impact of pre-pandemic (2019–2020), pandemic (2021, 2022) and post-pandemic year trends (2023). Important trends were evaluated and summarized using graphs, descriptive statistics, and two sample tests for proportions (chi-square test) comparing different pairs of years. Results: Total Match participants increased in 2021 followed by a drop in 2022, and 2023 despite an increase in total MATCH positions offered in 2023. The percentage of unmatched applicants to total applicants and the ratio of total applicants to total positions peaked in 2021 compared to other study periods (all yearly comparisons p < 0.001). The ratio of graduates who were not fresh out of dental school to total graduates has seen a small steady increase since 2021 (p > 0.06). Participants ranking more than one type of residency program saw an increase in 2021 which decreased in 2023 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The Dental Match statistics have undergone several distinct changes and trends during the pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic years. Further specific residency-based MATCH data from the USA and equivalent sources around the world needs to be investigated to understand the underlying trends and to guide future policymaking for post-graduate dental specialty training especially as it relates to specific factors such as job market, perceived quality of education, economic and geopolitical factors. Community pharmacists (CPs) are vital as primary healthcare providers, particularly in the screening and management of mental health issues. This study aimed to explore CPs' views on mental health support for patients and the potential challenges in delivering mental health services. Malaysian CPs were recruited through purposive and snowballing sampling. Semi-structured interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data was thematically analyzed using NVivo 12 management software. Twenty CPs from Peninsular Malaysia were interviewed. Participants emphasized the importance of high-quality resources, comprehensive training and standardized tools to effectively provide mental healthcare services. Challenges identified were lack of knowledge and skills, absence of screening tools and social stigma and conservatism, particularly among older individuals. This study underscores the willingness of CPs taking a primary role in mental health services. However, collaboration with relevant stakeholders is crucial, aligning with national strategic plans for the program to be successful. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the large size and lack of fine-grained annotation, Whole Slide Images (WSIs) analysis is commonly approached as a Multiple Instance Learning (MIL) problem. However, previous studies only learn from training data, posing a stark contrast to how human clinicians teach each other and reason about histopathologic entities and factors. Here, we present a novel knowledge concept-based MIL framework, named ConcepPath, to fill this gap. Specifically, ConcepPath utilizes GPT-4 to induce reliable disease-specific human expert concepts from medical literature and incorporate them with a group of purely learnable concepts to extract complementary knowledge from training data. In ConcepPath, WSIs are aligned to these linguistic knowledge concepts by utilizing the pathology vision-language model as the basic building component. In the application of lung cancer subtyping, breast cancer HER2 scoring, and gastric cancer immunotherapy-sensitive subtyping tasks, ConcepPath significantly outperformed previous SOTA methods, which lacked the guidance of human expert knowledge. Autonomous Medical Evaluation for Guideline Adherence (AMEGA) is a comprehensive benchmark designed to evaluate large language models' adherence to medical guidelines across 20 diagnostic scenarios spanning 13 specialties. It includes an evaluation framework and methodology to assess models' capabilities in medical reasoning, differential diagnosis, treatment planning, and guideline adherence, using open-ended questions that mirror real-world clinical interactions. It includes 135 questions and 1337 weighted scoring elements designed to assess comprehensive medical knowledge. In tests of 17 LLMs, GPT-4 scored highest with 41.9/50, followed closely by Llama-3 70B and WizardLM-2-8x22B. For comparison, a recent medical graduate scored 25.8/50. The benchmark introduces novel content to avoid the issue of LLMs memorizing existing medical data. AMEGA's publicly available code supports further research in AI-assisted clinical decision-making, aiming to enhance patient care by aiding clinicians in diagnosis and treatment under time constraints. Numerous medical associations have identified firearm injuries as a public health issue, calling on physicians to provide firearm safety counseling. Data suggest that while many physicians agree with this, few routinely screen and provide counseling. We aimed to survey Maine physicians to assess their current firearm safety counseling practices and knowledge of a new state child access prevention (CAP) law. We conducted an anonymous cross-sectional survey of Maine primary care and psychiatry physicians. We recruited multiple statewide medical organizations, residency programs, and two major health systems to distribute the survey to their membership. Group differences were compared by physician rurality and years in practice using Fisher's Exact and Chi Squared tests. Ninety-five surveys were completed. Though most participants agreed that firearm injury is an important public health issue that physicians can positively affect (92%), few had received prior firearm safety counseling education (27%). There were significant differences in firearm screening frequency, with rural physicians screening more often. More rural physicians and physicians with > 10 years of clinical practice felt they had adequate knowledge to provide meaningful counseling, compared with non-rural and early career physicians, respectively. Overall, 62% of participants were unaware of the 2021 Maine CAP law. This study highlights significant differences in firearm safety counseling practices among Maine physicians based on rurality and years of experience. Participants also reported a significant gap in knowledge of a recent state child access prevention law. Background: The hospital emergency plan is an important tool for hospitals in the management of a mass casualty incident. It is a legal requirement for hospitals to have such plans in place and to carry out drills. Emergency drills are a useful tool for the training of staff and for the evaluation of existing structures. The emergency plan of the University Hospital Würzburg (UKW) was evaluated during a disaster drill based on predefined drill objectives. Methods: The procedures according to the emergency plan of the UKW were practiced during a large-scale disaster exercise. The exercise objectives were defined as: testing the management structure, deployment of personnel, physical organization, triage, patient flow and communication. Several exercise objectives were defined in advance. An anonymized questionnaire was used to evaluate the achievement of the exercise objectives. Results: When properly trained and practiced the UKW emergency plan is generally well-suited to managing a mass casualty event. Improvements need to be made in the communication structure, responsibilities in the treatment areas and staff knowledge of the existing emergency plans and available material. Discussion: Mass casualty drills are a good tool for the evaluation of hospital emergency plans. A critical and decisive element for success is the existence of a clear management and communication structure. A good knowledge of the available material, the contents of the emergency plan and the consistent application of the procedures defined in this plan are essential for a coordinated course of action. Healthcare chaplains in the United States increasingly report being tasked by their organizations to participate in the formal work of clinical ethics, by serving on ethics committees, performing clinical ethics consultations, or leading clinical ethics programs. This mapping study documents that professionally-trained chaplains possess a number of skills and attributes that enhance their capability for this work; however, they often lack certain knowledge specific to the discipline of clinical ethics that is needed for roles they are being asked to perform. Spiritual healthcare providers (e.g., chaplains) working in healthcare settings across the United States were surveyed with the goals of (1) understanding their awareness of aphasia (a language disorder affecting reading, writing, verbal communication, and auditory comprehension); (2) determining whether they have received any training in aphasia and what type of training has been received; (3) whether they altered their approach to assessing the spiritual well-being of a person with aphasia; and, (4) what tools were used to augment communication. From a convenience sample of 203 respondents, the results indicated that 96% of respondents had previously heard of aphasia and 85% of respondents correctly identified the definition of aphasia. Seventy-three percent of respondents (N = 128) altered their approach to spiritual well-being assessment due to the aphasia diagnosis. A balancing-like sequence is a binary recurrence sequence which generalizes the balancing sequence and the sequence of nonnegative integers. This sequence, under certain assumptions, may be used to describe the growth of fortune of a person engaged in some business or profession. Since, in any business or profession, the growth is influenced by many uncertainties, it is more natural to induce some sort of randomness in the balancing-like sequences. If, in a balancing-like sequence, the growth rate is assumed to be a random variable, the resulting sequence will be a stochastic process and the sequence of expectations, in many cases, cannot be described as a binary recurrence sequence. This article aims to guide recent MSW graduates through the clinical supervision process. Frequently asked questions about supervision are addressed, including how to find a supervisor, the pros and cons of supervision inside or outside your organization, what the supervision will entail, and how supervision supports the supervisee in their work and professional development. This article also provides a best practices supervision framework with access to a Clinical Supervision Guidebook to demonstrate ways of implementing successful supervision that works for both the supervisee and supervisor. Located in the Appendix, the Guidebook outlines the relevant clinical supervisor and supervisee regulatory expectations in the state of Nebraska where it was developed. The Guidebook can be adapted to the regulatory expectations of other states and each individual's needs. Through a Creative Commons share-alike license, users can read, adjust, and adapt the Supervision Guidebook created by the authors to include the licensure rules in their state and to fit each social worker's specific supervisory expectations. Sexual disability is an emerging topic in the management of low back pain (LBP); nevertheless, sexual counseling skills are not widespread amongst professionals. The clinical behavior of physiotherapists in this field was not studied thoroughly; therefore, it is not clear if and how physiotherapists collect information related to sexual disability and how they manage it. This survey aimed to investigate knowledge, beliefs and attitudes of Italian physiotherapists in managing this disability. An online survey with 28 questions was distributed from February 2nd to July 10th 2023 via the newsletter of the Italian Association of Physiotherapy, email and social media. The questionnaire queried on participant demographics, assessment and treatment procedures, beliefs and potential barriers, sex, expertise, previous educational background, and geographical area. 448 physiotherapists completed the survey, with 69.87% not investigating LBP-related sexual disability routinely. 85% of physiotherapists diagnosed sexual disability in 0–10% of patients treated for LBP. Sexual disability is reported by physiotherapists at random in 54.91% of patients. When it is diagnosed, 90.41% of physiotherapists would choose evidence-based procedures, but only 19.96% of them would directly involve the patient's partner. Postgraduate education and professional expertise positively influence beliefs and attitudes. Main barriers and difficulties in the field are the perceived lack of expertise, other therapeutic priorities, cultural attitudes of patients, and fear of violating patients' privacy. The beliefs and attitudes of Italian physiotherapists in the management of sexual disability are characterized by scarce attention and feeling of inadequacy, but they show the potential to adequately treat this disability. "Quality" refers nominatively to a standard of performance. Quality is the central idea that differentiates speech protected by academic freedom (the right to worthwhile utterances) from constitutionally protected speech (the right to say anything at all). Extant documents and discussions state that professional peers determine quality based on norms of a field. But professional peers deem utterances and activities as consonant with quality only in reference to criteria that establish meaning of the term. In the absence of articulation, these criteria are ambiguous. Consequently, there exists recurrent confusion about what faculty members have a defensible right to say and do. This article develops an ontology of quality in reference to higher education teaching, a component of academic careers generally not subject to extensive peer review and where instructors thereby exercise considerable autonomy. The ontology identifies three criteria that bound quality: constraint, context, and amplitude. Boundedness exists only insofar as boundaries are controlled. The article examines two types of problems in professional control that affect quality: slippage and overreach. Both are instances of organizational deviance and abrogation of professional ethics. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the WSES-AAST guidelines in clinical practice and to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of emergency surgeons in managing the complications of ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Methods: The MIBODI survey is a cross-sectional study among WSES members designed as an international web-based survey, according to the Checklist for Reporting Results of Internet E-Surveys, to collect data on emergency surgeons' knowledge, attitudes, and practices concerning the management of patients presenting with acute complications of CD and UC. The questionnaire was composed of 30 questions divided into five sections: (1) demographic data, (2) primary evaluation, (3) non-operative management, (4) operative management, and (5) perianal sepsis management. Results: Two hundred and forty-two surgeons from 48 countries agreed to participate in the survey. The response rate was 24.2% (242/1000 members on WSES mail list). Emergency surgeons showed high adherence to recommendations for 6 of the 21 assessed items, with a "correct" response rate greater than or equal to 60%, according to WSES-AAST recommendations. Nine critical issues were highlighted, with correct answers at a rate of less than 50%. Conclusions: Inflammatory bowel disease is a complex disease that requires a multidisciplinary approach with close collaboration between gastroenterologists and surgeons. Emergency surgeons play a crucial role in managing complications related to IBD. One year after publication, the MIBODI study showed significant global implementation of the WSES-AAST guidelines in clinical practice, offering an imperative tool in the improved management of IBD in emergency and urgent settings. Intractable shortages of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teachers have prompted international policy efforts to recruit career changers to the profession. This research determines the significant influences on career changers' decisions to pursue or pass on STEM teaching careers. Surveys completed by 91 career changers from Queensland, Australia, were analysed with Best–Worst Scaling (BWS) methods and Margaret Archer's theories of reflexivity to establish the relative importance of factors influencing career changers' deliberations on a STEM teaching career. The social impact of teaching was the most influential factor for career changers considering STEM teaching. Career changers who pursued the profession were also influenced by past teaching experiences and feelings towards STEM subjects. Conversely, career changers who decided against STEM teaching indicated their personal traits and life circumstances might not suit a teaching career. Background: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) are becoming essential parts of a learning health system, and using these measures is a promising approach for value-based healthcare. However, evidence regarding healthcare professional and patient organizations' knowledge, use and perception of PROMs and PREMs is lacking. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to: 1- Describe the current knowledge and use of PROMs and PREMs by healthcare professional and patient organizations, 2- Describe the determinants of PROMs and PREMs implementation according to healthcare professional and patient organizations. Methods: We conducted an environmental scan using semi-structured interviews with representatives from healthcare professional and patient organizations. Interviews were recorded and live coded based on the Franklin framework. We used inductive and deductive thematic analysis to extract information about the main themes addressed during the interview (awareness of PROMs and PREMs, examples of implementation and use of PROMs and PREMs, tools used, vision for future implementation, barriers and facilitators to implementation and the best way to collect PROMs and PREMs data). Results: 63% of healthcare professional organizations (n = 19) and 41% of patient organizations (n = 9) that were contacted agreed to have a representative interviewed. The representatives from both the healthcare professional and patient organizations acknowledged the importance of assessing patients' experience and outcomes. However, they considered the implementation of PROMs and PREMs tools to be scarce within their organizations, in clinical practice and in the education system. Patient organizations were worried that overuse of PROMs and PREMs could lead to depersonalization of practice. Barriers to implementing PROMs and PREMs included lack of awareness of tools, resistance to change and lack of motivation to complete or explain the questionnaire. Barriers also included factors such as lack of financial, technological and human resources and issues with integration of data and inconsistency of digital platforms. Conclusions: This environmental scan revealed a lack of awareness of tools by healthcare professional and patient organizations' representatives and limited implementation. Adequate training, technological integration, and demonstration of PROMs and PREMs benefits to foster broader adoption in clinical and organizational settings is dearly needed. Background and aim: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects brain functions, often leading to a range of cognitive and motor impairments, necessitating effective rehabilitation. It is expedient for physiotherapists to have adequate knowledge, an appropriate attitude, and practice towards managing cognitive and motor impairments in adults with TBI. This study assessed physiotherapists' knowledge, attitudes, and practices of cognitive and motor impairments in adult patients with TBI. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 75 physiotherapists recruited from 8 hospitals in South-West Nigeria via purposive sampling. A self-developed questionnaire administered via Google Forms® was used to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of physiotherapists towards cognitive and motor impairments in adult patients with TBI. Descriptive statistics of mean, median, range, percentages, and frequency distribution tables were used in summarizing the KAP, while the association/correlation between KAP scores and selected demographic/profession-related characteristics was also investigated using inferential statistics of the Man-Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, and Spearman ranked correlation. The level of significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: The mean age of the participants was 28.73 ± 7.093 years, predominantly female (53.3%), with a bachelor's degree in physiotherapy (78.7%), and specializing in neuro-physiotherapy. Most respondents demonstrated knowledge of cognitive 45 (60%) and motor 42 (56%) impairments in adult TBI patients. There was a (rho = 0.259) positive significant correlation (p = 0.025) between the age of the physiotherapist and their knowledge of the management of cognitive and motor impairment in adult patients with TBI. Conclusion: Many physiotherapists in South-West Nigeria demonstrate good knowledge of TBI, with this knowledge increasing with age. This study underscores the importance of continuous educational training for physiotherapists, a consequence of which should be better rehabilitation and functional outcomes for people with TBI. Background and aim: Clinical prediction rules (CPRs) are mathematical tools that are intended to guide clinicians in clinical decision making or predict a future outcome, but they seem rather unknown, under-utilized, or avoided by clinicians. This study aimed to assess knowledge, attitude, and practice of CPRs in low-back pain (LBP) among physiotherapists. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 45 consenting specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapists from three public-funded teaching hospitals in Nigeria was carried out. An adapted validated questionnaire on facilitators and barriers to CPRs utilization, and a socio-demographic proforma were used to collect data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to analyze data. Alpha level was set at p < 0.05. Results: Respondents were mostly males (71.1%), married (64.4%) and first-degree holders (55.6%). Twenty-eight (62.2%) of the respondents had above-average knowledge of CPRs in LBP. Rates for positive attitude towards, and utilization of CPRs were 37.8% and 15.6%. Knowledge and attitude about CPRs in LBP were not significantly influenced by socio-demographic factors (p > 0.05). However, there was a significant association between the utilization of CPRs and years of experience (χ2 = 10.339 p = 0.016). Conclusion: Most Nigerian physiotherapists had above-average knowledge, but a negative attitude and low utilization of CPRs in LBP. Clinicians' years of clinical experience influence the usage of CPR. There is a need to incorporate training in CPRs into undergraduate and continuous professional development programmes. Purpose: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the destruction of the myelin sheath within the central nervous system. The etiology of MS involves a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, and immunological factors. Recent studies indicated the potential role of the choroid plexus (CP) in the pathogenesis and progression of MS. This systematic review aims to assess existing research on the volume alterations of the CP in MS patients compared to the normal population. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across databases including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science up to June 2024. Data from the included studies were synthesized using a meta-analytical approach with a random-effects model, assessing heterogeneity with the I2 and Tau-squared indices. Results: We included 17 studies in this systematic review. The meta-analysis, which included data from eight studies reporting CP volume relative to TIV, found a statistically significant increase in CP volume in MS patients compared to healthy controls (HCs). The SMD was 0.77 (95% CI: 0.61 to 0.93), indicating a large effect size. This analysis showed no heterogeneity (I² = 0%). A separate meta-analysis was conducted using five studies that reported CP volume as normalized volume, resulting in an SMD of 0.63 (95% CI: 0.2–1.06). Conclusion: This study demonstrates an increase in CP volume among MS patients compared to HCs, implying the potential involvement of CP in MS pathogenesis and/or progression. Purpose: This study aims to conduct a process evaluation of Supporting Family Doctors to Address Elder Abuse (SAFE) intervention, a training program, and clinical guidelines developed to assist the family doctor in intervening in elder abuse (EA). Method: 160 family doctors answered pre-and post-training questionnaires on knowledge of EA, attitude, subjective norms, and the perceived behavioral control to intervene in EA, followed by semi-structured interviews post-intervention with a purposive sample of family doctors who participated in the SAFE intervention (N = 39). Results: There is a significant increase in mean scores of the knowledge, attitude, and subjective norms six months post-intervention (p < 0.001). The mean scores of perceived behavioral control of family doctors to intervene in EA decreased but were statistically insignificant (p > 0.05). Qualitative data explained the observed effect and process underlying the knowledge transfer and implementation of the SAFE intervention. Knowledge improvements due to awareness enhancement led to empowerment and confidence as the training program was effectual and comprehensive. Family doctors' self-reflection and empathy toward older adults contribute to attitude changes. Family doctors are better coordinated and receive support in intervening in EA. However, various roadblocks affect their perceived ability to intervene in EA and enhancement strategies necessary to assist family doctors to intervene in EA efficiently. Conclusion: The SAFE intervention was feasible and effective in improving family doctors' competency to intervene in EA. However, findings showed that doctors' capacities must go hand in hand with empowering older adults, creating awareness among community members, and pushing for law and policy reforms. Introduction: Lack of knowledge of Early Intervention (EI) is a barrier to developmental delay (DD) management. We aimed to examine the feasibility of measuring pediatricians' knowledge of EI, determine the distribution of EI knowledge, and determine factors associated with increased EI knowledge. Methods: We conducted an exploratory cross-sectional study with a convenience sample from a local American Academy of Pediatrics chapter to administer a survey with 10 multiple-choice questions regarding the EI referral process, evaluation process, eligibility criteria and fee structure. Our outcome variable was a composite score of these 10 multiple-choice questions, Total Knowledge Score (TKS). Our predictor variables included physician characteristics (i.e., years of experience, percentage of patients seen with private insurance, receipt of EI training in the last 5 years) and practice characteristics (i.e., medical home status). Results: Our sample consisted of a total of 194 pediatric residents/attendings. Multivariable regression demonstrated seeing ≥ 50% patients who were privately insured, increased experience, and receiving training in the last 5 years were associated with higher TKS. Discussion: We were able to quantitatively evaluate physician's knowledge of EI and demonstrated that seeing a majority of privately insured patients, having more experience, and having received formal EI training in the last 5 years were associated with higher EI knowledge. This disproportionate distribution of EI knowledge has the potential to contribute to disparities in the management of DD. This may indicate that medical institutions, where physicians see a small percent of privately insured patients, need to hire more experienced physicians, and provide routine EI training. Significance: Physician knowledge of the Early Intervention process has been described as a potential barrier to the management of children with developmental delay. Studies have demonstrated that physician knowledge of this process has the potential to impact physician referral rates and parents' willingness to carry out a physician referral to completion. Our study is the first to quantitatively evaluate physicians' knowledge of the Early Intervention process and determine the physician factors that are associated with knowledge. Additionally, we examined whether the disproportionate distribution of physician knowledge has the potential to contribute to disparities described in the literature for developmental delay management. Background: While bedside assistants play a critical role in many robotic operations, substantial heterogeneity remains in bedside assistant training pathways. As such, this study aimed to develop consensus guidelines for bedside assistant skills required for team members in robotic operations. Methods: We designed a study using the Delphi process to develop consensus guidelines around bedside assistant skills. We generated an initial list of bedside assistant skills from the literature, training materials, and expert input. We selected experts for the Delphi process based on prior scholarship in the area of robotic bedside assistant education and experience facilitating robotic bedside assistant training. For each item, respondents specified which robotic team members should have the skill from a list of "basic" bedside assistants, "advanced" bedside assistants, surgeons, surgical technologists, and circulating nurses. We conducted two rounds of the Delphi process and defined 80% agreement as sufficient for consensus. Results: Fourteen experts participated in two rounds of the Delphi process. By the end of the second round, the group had reached consensus on 253 of 305 items (83%). The group determined that "basic" bedside assistants should have 52 skills and that "advanced" bedside assistants should have 60 skills. The group also determined that surgeons should have 54 skills, surgical technologists should have 25 skills, and circulating nurses should have 17 skills. Experts agreed that all participants should have certain communication skills and basic knowledge of aspects of the robotic system. Conclusions: We developed consensus guidelines on the skills required during robotic surgery by bedside assistants and other team members using the Delphi process. These findings can be used to design training around bedside assistant skills and assess team members to ensure that each team member has the appropriate skills. Introduction: Endoscopy is an essential skill for all surgeons. However, endoscopic competency, training, and practice may vary widely among them. The EAES Flexible Endoscopy Subcommittee is working towards a standardized set of fundamental endoscopic knowledge and skills. To best advise on current practice patterns of flexible endoscopy among surgeons worldwide, a snapshot audit was conducted on the training, use, and limitations of flexible endoscopy in practice. Methods: An online survey was distributed via email distribution and social media platforms for EAES, SAGES, and WebSurg members. Respondent demographics, training, and practice patterns were assessed. The main outcome measure was the annual endoscopic volume. Multivariate regression and machine learning models analyzed relationships between outcomes and independent variables of age, geographic region, laparoscopic surgery practice, and surgical specialization. Results: A total of 1486 surgeons from 195 countries completed the survey. Respondents were mainly general (n = 894/1486, 60.2%), colorectal (n = 189/1486, 12.7%), bariatric (n = 117/1486, 7.9%), upper gastrointestinal (GI)/foregut (n = 108, 7.3%), hepatobiliopancreatic/HPB (n = 59/1486, 4%), and endocrine surgeons (n = 11/1486, 0.7%) in active practice. Eighty-two percent (n = 1,204) mentioned having used endoscopy in their practice, and 64.7% (n = 961/1486) received formal flexible endoscopy training. Of those performing endoscopy annually, 64.2% (n = 660/1486) performed between 0 and 20 endoscopies, 15.2% (n = 156/1486) performed between 20 and 50 endoscopies, 10.1% (n = 104/1486) performed between 50 and 100 endoscopies, and 10.5% (n = 108/1486) performed over 100 endoscopies. From the regression analysis, there was no statistical correlation between the annual endoscopy volume and age, geographic region, laparoscopic surgery practice, or surgical specialization. Performing advanced endoscopy was directly related to the bariatric subspecialty and to performing over 50% of cases in a minimally invasive fashion. Conclusions: This international snapshot audit revealed significant heterogeneity in endoscopic practices among surgeons worldwide. There was a nonindependent relationship between endoscopy volumes and other variables tested. Barriers to practicing and receiving endoscopy training were common among respondents. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with a heightened risk of cardiovascular and renal complications. While glycemic control remains essential, newer therapeutic options, such as SGLT2 inhibitors, offer additional benefits beyond glucose reduction. This review delves into the mechanisms underlying the cardio-renal protective effects of SGLT2 inhibitors. By inducing relative hypoglycemia, these agents promote ketogenesis, optimize myocardial energy metabolism, and reduce lipotoxicity. Additionally, SGLT2 inhibitors exert renoprotective actions by enhancing renal perfusion, attenuating inflammation, and improving iron metabolism. These pleiotropic effects, including modulation of blood pressure, reduction of uric acid, and improved endothelial function, collectively contribute to the cardiovascular and renal benefits observed with SGLT2 inhibitor therapy. Background and aim: Migraine is a common disabling conditions which, globally, affects 15.2% of the population. It is the second cause of health loss in terms of years lived with disability, the first among women. Despite being so common, it is poorly recognised and too often undertreated. Specialty centres and neurologists with specific expertise on headache disorders have the knowledge to provide specific care: however, those who do not regularly treat patients with migraine will benefit from a synopsis on the most relevant and updated information about this condition. This paper presents a comprehensive view on the hallmarks of migraine, from genetics and diagnostic markers, up to treatments and societal impact, and reports the elements that identify migraine specific features. Main results: The most relevant hallmark of migraine is that it has common and individual features together. Besides the known clinical manifestations, migraine presentation is heterogeneous with regard to frequency of attacks, presence of aura, response to therapy, associated comorbidities or other symptoms, which likely reflect migraine heterogeneous genetic and molecular basis. The amount of therapies for acute and for prophylactic treatment is really wide, and one of the difficulties is with finding the best treatment for the single patient. In addition to this, patients carry out different daily life activities, and might show lifestyle habits which are not entirely adequate to manage migraine day by day. Education will be more and more important as a strategy of brain health promotion, because this will enable reducing the amount of subjects needing specialty care, thus leaving it to those who require it in reason of refractory condition or presence of comorbidities. Conclusions: Recognizing the hallmarks of migraine and the features of single patients enables prescribing specific pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Medical research on headaches today particularly suffers from the syndrome of single-disease approach, but it is important to have a cross-sectional and joint vision with other close specialties, in order to treat our patients with a comprehensive approach that a heterogeneous condition like migraine requires. Purpose: There are inadequate resources available to support lesbian, gay, bi + , trans and gender diverse, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) people experiencing family violence in Australia. Government funding agencies and mainstream family violence service providers regularly state that there is insufficient evidence to justify investment in more inclusive services. This article explores practitioner perceptions of such claims. Method: 21 practitioners from mainstream and specialist LGBTIQ family violence services were interviewed about structural challenges associated with implementing LGBTIQ-inclusive family violence services. Participants' accounts highlight the political tensions and material repercussions of epistemic definitions of 'evidence' as they pertain to LGBTIQ individuals' experiences of violence within policy environments. Utilizing Carol Bacchi's feminist policy analysis framework, we ask 'what is the problem represented to be?', examining participant perceptions about how evidence is currently positioned in policy and resourcing decisions pertaining to LGBTIQ family violence, and discuss its implications. Results: Participants overwhelmingly called for more investment in research and data gathering about family violence against LGBTIQ people and provision of effective supports. Even allowing for this, participants indicated that there is also already enough existing knowledge to justify urgent expansion of LGBTIQ-inclusive services. Conclusions: Expanded provision of services and generating a more robust evidence base about LGBTIQ family violence service needs are critically important and intertwined issues. However, the way that they are currently sequenced in policy and broader sector conversations, where 'enough' evidence is required in order to justify increased services, is inhibiting progress on both. Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common mental health condition that affects women in a silent and covert way and is not clearly visible to the community or to health care providers. Untreated PPD has significant and long-term consequences on the mother and their child. This study aims to assess the risk of postpartum depression among women in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and its determinants. Method: This is a questionnaire-based cross-sectional study conducted at primary healthcare centers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The target population is women visiting the well-child vaccination clinics for their infants' vaccination. The questionnaire used consisted of socio-demographic characteristics, important histories such as obstetric, medical, and social histories, and the Edinburgh Post Partum depression scale EPPS. EPPS is a validated tool used to evaluate the probability of postpartum depression. Results: The probability of postpartum depression for women visiting the well child care clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi during the study period was 35%, One-third. 10% had high risk, 7% had moderate risk, and 18% had mild risk. Using logistic and linear regression, there was an association identified between postpartum depression risk and the presence of weight concern and employment status OR 5.499(2.618–11.548) and OR 0.483 (0.246–0.951), respectively (P < 0.005). From the total sample, 3.7% responded quite often or sometimes to the question of having the intention to harm themselves. Conclusion: EPDS is recommended to be used routinely to screen women in the postnatal period. This high prevalence of risk of postpartum depression in the UAE (One in three women) calls for a well-prepared healthcare system and community. Healthcare providers need to be prepared with better knowledge, practice, and management strategies to care for these women, for early identification and management. Further studies should be undertaken to achieve effective strategies to reduce the incidence of this condition. Significance: Successful strategies for the prevention of postpostpartum depression and its early prevention and management are dependent on good research studies. This study revealed that the prevalence is almost one-third among women attending the well-baby clinics in Abu Dhabi with important associations identified. This paper is a commentary regarding the journey of change in Singapore's teacher education, in particular at the National Institute of Education (NIE). Change in Singapore's teacher education follows closely the phases of school accountability in the education system. Although initial teacher education is centralised at the NIE, further teacher education and professional development are increasingly decentralised in the system. Despite the need to adapt very quickly to the needs of the profession, teacher education is built in a balanced and steady manner, so that there is both change and continuity over the years. Germany currently hosts the world's third largest population of refugees. As a result, encounters between practitioners in different psychosocial fields of work and refugees have become more frequent. The initial results of recent research suggest that practitioners undergo specific patterns of experience when working with refugees. From a psychodynamic perspective these patterns can be described as countertransference. This study assessed whether practitioners in psychosocial professions experience typical countertransference reactions when working with refugees. Furthermore, it investigated how these countertransference reactions are characterized and to which factors these reactions relate. To investigate this, qualitative structured interviews were conducted with five practitioners in this field. These interviews were later analyzed using the method of summarizing content analysis. The study found a variety of countertransference reactions that were prevalent in those consulted in their psychosocial work with refugees, which could be typical for professional work with refugees in general. Moreover, feelings of responsibility for the perspectives of refugees, of uncertainty of one's role as well as defence and rejection also repeatedly arose in countertransference. In addition, these countertransference reactions could be linked to overarching factors, such as the influence of trauma or of policies concerning the judicial status of refugees. These hypothesis-generating results provide starting points for further research and could be applied in training and supervision. Starting with the choice of profession, dealing with self-care and one's own illness, a denial of one's own vulnerability can be observed, which takes different forms depending on the type and severity of the illness and the extent of the denial; however, the failure to perceive one's own neediness and excessive demands often represent the starting point for boundary-violating behavior towards patients and training and further education participants in self-awareness, the consequences of which are also lost sight of. Hedgehog pathway inhibitors (HHIs) have broadened the treatment options available for patients with advanced basal cell carcinoma (BCC) for whom traditional therapeutic approaches are not feasible or effective. Sonidegib and vismodegib are oral HHIs that were approved for treatment of patients with advanced BCC after demonstrating promising efficacy in the pivotal Phase II BOLT (NCT01327053) and ERIVANCE (NCT00833417) trials, respectively. However, the incidence and types of treatment-emergent adverse events (AEs) observed with these agents may limit continuous use of HHIs and ultimately impact clinical outcomes. In this review, we summarize the safety and tolerability profiles of sonidegib and vismodegib and discuss potential management strategies for HHI class-effect AEs, including muscle spasms, creatine phosphokinase increase, alopecia, and dysgeusia. These AEs primarily occur early in treatment and can lead to treatment discontinuation. Differences in the pharmacokinetic profiles of sonidegib and vismodegib may contribute to the variability noted in times to onset and resolution of these and other AEs. Evidence suggests that protocol modifications, such as treatment interruptions and dose reductions, are effective ways to manage AEs while maintaining disease control. Nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions may also be considered as part of an AE management strategy. Overall, healthcare providers and patients with advanced BCC should be aware of the HHI class-effect AEs and plan effective management strategies to avoid treatment discontinuation and optimize therapeutic response. Debates concerning digital automation are mostly focused on the question of the availability of jobs in the short and long term. To counteract the possible negative effects of automation, it is often suggested that those at risk of technological unemployment should have access to retraining and reskilling opportunities. What is often missing in these debates are implications that all of this may have for individual autonomy understood as the ability to make and develop long-term plans. In this paper, I argue that if digital automation becomes rapid, it will significantly undermine the legitimate expectation of stability and consequently, the ability to make and pursue long-term plans in the sphere of work. I focus on what is often taken to be one of the main long-term plans, i.e. the choice of profession, and I argue that this choice may be undermined by the pressure to continuously acquire new skills while at the same time facing a diminishing range of professions that one can choose from. Given that the choice of profession is significant for not-work related spheres of life, its undermining can greatly affect individual autonomy in these other spheres too. I argue that such undermining of individual planning agency constitutes a distinctive form of harm that necessitates a proactive institutional response. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Several studies have highlighted the changing nature and forms of work in the academic profession, but few have examined the perspectives of aspiring academics who may contribute to shaping the future academic profession. What types of activities do aspiring academics consider academic work, and what are the implications for academic training and the future of the academic profession? This paper addresses these questions by drawing on qualitative interviews with a group of doctoral candidates and recent doctoral candidates at a research-intensive university in Australia. Building on Ernst Boyer's scholarship typology, the paper proposes a conceptualisation of academic work domains based on how the outcomes of intellectual inquiry can be communicated. Conceptualising academic work from a communication perspective allows for a language to speak of and recognise the diversity of academic work. The paper also raises questions about how doctoral training could prepare aspiring academics for work areas beyond research, particularly engagement, and how institutional structure could accommodate and recognise this diversity. Objective: To assess rates of traversing barriers to care to access optimal clinical outcomes in people with migraine internationally. Background: People in need of medical care for migraine should consult a health care professional knowledgeable in migraine management, obtain an accurate diagnosis, and receive an individualized treatment plan, which includes scientific society guideline-recommended treatments where appropriate. Methods: The Chronic Migraine Epidemiology and Outcomes-International (CaMEO-I) Study was a cross-sectional, web-based survey conducted from July 2021 through March 2022 in Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States (US). Respondents who met modified International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd edition, criteria for migraine and had Migraine Disability Assessment Scale (MIDAS) scores of ≥ 6 (i.e., mild, moderate, or severe disability) were deemed to need medical care and were included in this analysis. Minimally effective treatment required that participants were currently consulting a health care professional for headache (barrier 1), reported an accurate diagnosis (barrier 2), and reported use of minimally appropriate pharmacologic treatment (barrier 3; based on American Headache Society 2021 Consensus Statement recommendations). Proportions of respondents who successfully traversed each barrier were calculated, and chi-square tests were used to assess overall difference among countries. Results: Among 14,492 respondents with migraine, 8,330 had MIDAS scores of ≥ 6, were deemed in need of medical care, and were included in this analysis. Current headache consultation was reported by 35.1% (2926/8330) of respondents. Compared with the US, consultation rates and diagnosis rates were statistically significantly lower in all other countries except France where they were statistically significantly higher. Total appropriate treatment rates were also statistically significantly lower in all other countries compared with the US except France, which did not differ from the US. All 3 barriers were traversed by only 11.5% (955/8330) of respondents, with differences among countries (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Of people with migraine in need of medical care for migraine, less than 15% traverse all 3 barriers to care. Although rates of consultation, diagnosis, and treatment differed among countries, improvements are needed in all countries studied to reduce the global burden of migraine. Trial registration: NA. In Sweden, people living independently and requiring daily living support can access 'housing support', a form of practical, educational, and social support provided by the municipalities. About two-thirds of those receiving this support have neurodevelopmental conditions, primarily autism or ADHD. Many are young adults in the process of adapting to new roles and expectations in different life domains, including education, work, and accommodation. This study aimed to provide a qualitative description of support workers' views on current practice in housing support for young adults (aged 18 to 29) with neurodevelopmental conditions. Semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with 34 housing support workers across 19 Swedish regions. An inductive qualitative content analysis approach was used. The interviews depicted a complex service, subject to organizational aspects (roles, responsibilities, availability, and allocation), the joint effort of key players (young adults, relatives, and support workers), and practical aspects of service provision (finding common ground for the work, and delivery of support). Some elements of the service were poorly designed for the target group. The support workers expressed a need for more knowledge about neurodevelopmental conditions, but also described new insights related to remote delivery of support. The results raise important questions about how housing support should be organized and delivered to strike the right balance between support and autonomy, meet specific needs, and ensure equal services across municipalities. Background: People with intermediate CVD risk constitute most of the population. Within this group, the proportion of events is lower compared to the high-risk group, but they contribute with the largest absolute number of events. Atherosclerosis is a dynamic process and progression can be slowed or even reversed with medication and lifestyle changes, but adherence to prescribed treatment is crucial. Aim: To investigate the long-term effects of interventions with pictorial risk communication of cardiovascular (CVD) risk on average adherence in a group of statin users. Compare response in adherence over time between men and women after intervention. Methods: Participants on active statin treatment were followed up to 5 years after being randomly assigned to an intervention program aimed at raising CVD risk awareness among participants and their physicians. Merging prescribed medication databases with VIPVIZA study to study adherence over time. A moving average adherence was used to compare groups. Results: Generally, the average adherence to statins among the 512 participants was high. Men had a higher average adherence over time, while women had a sharper increase in adherence in conjuncture with the intervention program. Conclusions: Both men and women were receptive to pictorial information regarding CVD risk, but the intervention effect was more pronounced in women. Sex differences are important when considering risk communication strategies. Periodically repeating the intervention was beneficial for maintaining the intervention effect over time. Model adherence is a key indicator of mental health care quality. This study investigates the degree of model adherence, as well as content and staging of care, among the first Youth Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams in the Netherlands. Model fidelity was assessed in sixteen teams with the Youth Flexile ACT model fidelity scale (2014 version). Mental health workers completed a 'content of care questionnaire' to map the interventions applied in the teams. Model fidelity scores revealed that twelve teams adhered to the Youth Flexible ACT standard with 'optimal implementation' (≥ 4.1 on a 5 point scale) and four teams with 'adequate implementation'. Most disciplines were well integrated within the teams; however, several items regarding the involvement of specific disciplines and the availability of treatment interventions (peer support worker, employment and education specialist and programs, family interventions, integrated dual disorder treatment) scored below the optimum. Frequency of contact during ACT and the use of Routine Outcome Monitoring instruments scored below the optimum as well. The 'content of care' data showed that most clients received an individual psychological intervention, and nearly half of the client sample received scaled-up / intensified ACT care. The findings indicate a predominantly successful translation of care from the theoretical Flexible ACT framework into practice, covering both ACT and non-ACT functions. Further room for improvement lies in the incorporation of specialized disciplines in the personal and social recovery domains, including the peer support worker and employment and education specialist, as well as in specific protocolled interventions. Background: Rates of mental health challenges among children and youth are on the rise. Physical activity has been identified as a promising intervention to improve mental health outcomes for youth. Objective: This study aimed to investigate how mental health clinicians perceive and utilize physical activity as a mental health intervention for children and adolescents. Methods: Seventy-four Ontario mental health clinicians (psychologists, psychotherapists, and social workers) were surveyed about their perspectives and practices related to physical activity as part of mental health care for children and adolescents using a mixed-methods approach. Survey respondents were also asked about barriers to including physical activity in care. Results: Although 100% of clinicians agreed that physical activity was beneficial to their own and to their clients' mental health, only 61% reported prescribing physical activity to their clients. Barriers to prescribing physical activity as a treatment option included lack of training, time, and resources. Clinicians who were more physically active themselves were more likely to view physical activity as beneficial for mental health and were less likely to view time as a barrier to discussing and prescribing physical activity in their practice. Many clinicians expressed a need for more training, knowledge, and resources. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that with improved access to training and resources, clinicians will be well-positioned to leverage the benefits of physical activity for mental health in their practice. Endocrine surgery (ESx) in India started developing separately beginning in the late 1980s but still its recognition is not as wide and far as in the developed countries. Our aim was to conduct a survey of general surgery residents to map the attitude and awareness regarding endocrine surgery in India. A three-section questionnaire was designed and delivered online to general surgery residents across India. Responses obtained were analyzed using SPSS V16. Data was analyzed from 212 survey responses. The median age of the group was 27 years (range, 25–33) and 75% were men. Only 19% of the respondents belonged to an institute with a functioning endocrine surgery unit/department. Majority of the residents (68%) felt that their knowledge of endocrine surgery operations was not as good as the knowledge of other specialties. GSRs from an institute having an endocrine surgeon on their staff were more likely to be satisfied with the knowledge of endocrine surgery (p =.001 and opt it as a career (61%) than GSRs from other institutes (19%) [OR 1.4 (0.0727 to 0.2862), p =.001]. Majority of GSRs (70%) either agreed or strongly agreed that additional training is required to take care of ESx patients beyond General Surgery training (p =.01). Brand recognition of endocrine surgery was low among this cohort of general surgery residents. Purpose: This systematic review aimed to determine if digital screening for mental health in pregnancy and postpartum is acceptable, feasible and more effective than standard care (paper-and pen-based screening or no screening). The second aim was to identify barriers and enablers to implementing digital screening in pregnancy and postpartum. Method: OVID MEDLINE, PsycINFO, SCOPUS, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science, Joanna Briggs Database and All EMB reviews incorporating Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (OVID) were systematically searched for articles that evaluated digital screening for mental health in pregnancy and postpartum between 2000 and 2021. Qualitative articles were deductively mapped to the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF). Results: A total of 34 articles were included in the analysis, including qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods studies. Digital screening was deemed acceptable, feasible and effective. TDF domains for common barriers included environmental context and resources, skills, social/professional role and identity and beliefs about consequences. TDF domains for common enablers included knowledge, social influences, emotion and behavioural regulation. Conclusion: When planning to implement digital screening, consideration should be made to have adequate training, education and manageable workload for healthcare professionals (HCP's). Purpose: To assess the knowledge, clinical experience, and attitudes of Italian midwives toward perinatal depression (PND) and to explore how these factors impact the quality of care. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey among 152 midwives employed in public hospitals across Italy. The questionnaire covered a range of topics, including demographic data, professional experience, knowledge of PND symptoms, risk factors, and clinical management, as well as communication skills and personal experiences with PND cases. Results: A concerning 76.3% of midwives displayed inadequate knowledge of PND based on current scientific literature. Those with a more comprehensive understanding were notably more confident in their practice, expressing significantly fewer apprehensions about communicating with mothers (25.8% vs 74.2%) and lesser concerns about the mothers' future well-being (38.9% vs 62.95%). The survey results also emphasised the midwives' call for specialised guidelines and formal training in PND management and underscored the value of communication skills, continuity of care, and family engagement in supporting affected mothers. Conclusion: This inaugural study sheds light on the current state of knowledge and attitudes among Italian midwives regarding PND. It pinpoints crucial areas for educational enhancement and practice improvement, suggesting that elevated levels of midwife expertise in PND could significantly elevate the standard of care and expedite early diagnosis and treatment. Introduction: Despite trauma accounting 9% of global mortality, it has been demonstrated that undergraduate trauma teaching is inadequate nationally and worldwide. With COVID-19 exacerbating this situation, a scalable, accessible, and cost-effective undergraduate trauma teaching is required. Methods: Our Continual Professional Development United Kingdom (CPUDK)-accredited University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Major Trauma Service (MTS) affiliated programme consisted of seven biweekly pre-recorded sessions that were delivered online through the Moodle educational platform to University of Birmingham students. Pre- and post-randomised session-specific multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and anonymous feedback forms were administered. Results: There were 489 student responses, with 63 students completing all seven sessions. On an 8-point scale, students' objective knowledge scores increased by a mean of 1.2 (p < 0.001). Using a 5-point Likert scale, students also showed improvement in subjective outcomes including their confidence in assessing trauma patient (absolute difference (AD) 1.38, p < 0.001), advising initial investigations and formulating initial management plans (AD 1.78, p < 0.001) and thereby their confidence to manage a trauma patient overall (AD 1.98, p < 0.001). A total of 410 student responses endorsed the online delivery of SATMAS through Moodle and recommended SATMAS to future medical students. Conclusion: SATMAS has demonstrated positive student feedback and extensive recruitment from only one centre, demonstrating that our programme can be an indispensable low-cost learning resource that prepares undergraduate medical students for their trauma exams and informs the implementation of clinical skills required by all doctors. We publish our pilot study findings to encourage similar teaching programmes to be adopted at other universities nationally and internationally, to synergistically benefit students, tutors, and ultimately patients, on a larger scale. In China, the postnatal bodily experiences of urban white-collar women intricately relate to the tradition of "doing the month" (DTM). The DTM guidelines serve a dual purpose: they aid women in recuperating from postnatal frailty and act as cultural restrictions that govern women's bodies as bearers of fertility for patrilineal families. This research delves into the postnatal embodied practices of white-collar Chinese women and their articulations of subjectivity during DTM. The findings enrich the theory of embodiment with empirical materials in terms of embodied cultural practice by illustrating how women exhibit embodied subjectivity at the intersections of traditional, modern, and gendered discourses. The findings reveal the affirmative bodily practices of women we interviewed: (i) They astutely employ both beneficial DTM regulations and non-DTM knowledge to support their own body's recovery. They also procure professional services for enhanced recovery. (ii) They express embodied subjectivity during postnatal breastfeeding, which serves as a way to adapt to motherhood. (iii) From the viewpoint of social relations, mothers can devise coping mechanisms to assert agency during interactions with primary family members concerning breastfeeding and infant care. These findings transcend the literature on women's body–self relations and extend to the examination of body–self–family relations from a postfeminist standpoint, thereby enriching embodiment theory by suggesting that cultural values and disciplines shape and inform the expression of subjectivity through the body–mind connection during embodied practices. Family physicians (FPs) play an important but underappreciated role in the pathways to care for people with early psychosis. We conducted a mixed-methods study to describe the knowledge, attitudes, preferences, and needs of FPs towards the recognition and management of early psychosis. We sent a cross-sectional postal survey to a random sample of FPs in Ontario, Canada, and conducted in-depth qualitative interviews with twenty. FPs were generally aware of important early psychosis symptoms, however, there were some knowledge gaps. Among surveyed FPs, 25% were unsure of the availability of early psychosis intervention services in their region, and most (80%) would prefer to co-manage with specialists. In the qualitative interviews, FPs expressed varied comfort levels in recognizing psychosis, and that timely access to psychiatry was a main concern. Background: The surging trend of noncommunicable diseases complicated by trauma and infectious diseases has left many with marked physical limitations. Physiotherapy component of primary health care could be utilized for management of both communicable and noncommunicable diseases to restore physical functions. Objectives: To establish the health care providers' level of knowledge and factors that influence the utilization of physiotherapy services among community members of Busia County in Kenya. The association between level of knowledge and demographic profile of health care providers at BCRH was also established. Method: Descriptive cross-sectional quantitative study involved 192 participants (nurses, doctors, and clinical officers) who were purposively selected. They completed self-administered questionnaire between August and November 2019. They were both sexes above 18 years of age, drawn from Busia County Referral Hospital. Data was analysed by Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 25. Results: The majority (92%) of the health care service providers had adequate knowledge about physiotherapy from their training to working with likelihood ratio chi-square of 7.714 with p-value at 0.01 at 5% level of significant. They had excellent communication (86.03%) with physiotherapists and helped to refer patients at BCRH for physiotherapy (χ2 = 52.02 and p-value = 0.01) at 5% level of significant. They had trust (91.56%) that physiotherapists were knowledgeable enough to handle patients on their own. Conclusion: The health care service providers are knowledgeable about the importance of physiotherapy and have supported its utilization. However, there is need to integrate physiotherapy service at all levels of training and practice of the components of primary health care. This will lead to a holistic patient's care in terms of preventive, curative, and rehabilitative. Quality of life for the community members will be enhanced for appropriate functionality to meet the population needs. While many aspects of life may improve substantially for children and young people undergoing kidney transplant, there may be new challenges including symptoms that can be detrimental to health-related quality of life. Addressing symptoms requires attention to patient and family perspectives and a holistic approach grounded in symptom management. The interdisciplinary pediatric nephrology transplant team should be attuned to the prevalence of common symptoms including fatigue, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, pain, and sleep disturbances, as well as poor body image and sexual health.
