The time-dependent component of electrode potential—electrochemical emission (ECE) signal—of polycrystalline titanium Grade 2 alloy during deformation in distilled water has been experimentally investigated. The ECE signal has a continuous component in the frequency band of ∼10–10
5 Hz and a discrete component in the band of ∼10–103 Hz. Discrete signals were found to be related to the multiple processes of crack formation of the alloy surface layer at the level of individual grains, and the statistical distribution function of discrete ECE signal amplitudes obeys a power law, characteristic of the state of self-organizing criticality.
