The integration of hippocampal oscillations during non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep is crucial for memory consolidation. However, how cardinal sleep oscillations bind across various subfields of the human hippocampus to promote information transfer and synaptic plasticity remains unclear. Using human intracranial recordings from 25 epilepsy patients, we find that hippocampal subfields, including DG/CA3, CA1, and SUB, all exhibit significant delta and spindle power during NREM sleep. The DG/CA3 displays strong coupling between delta and ripple oscillations with all the other hippocampal subfields. In contrast, the regions of CA1 and SUB exhibit more precise coordination, characterized by event-level triple coupling between delta, spindle, and ripple oscillations. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the synaptic plasticity within the hippocampal circuit, as indexed by delta-wave slope, is linearly modulated by spindle power. In contrast, ripples act as a binary switch that triggers a sudden increase in delta-wave slope. Overall, these results suggest that different subfields of the hippocampus regulate one another through diverse layers of sleep oscillation synchronization, collectively facilitating information processing and synaptic plasticity during NREM sleep. Electrochemical hydrogenation of acetonitrile based on well-developed proton exchange membrane electrolyzers holds great promise for practical production of ethylamine. However, the local acidic condition of proton exchange membrane results in severe competitive proton reduction reaction and poor selection toward acetonitrile hydrogenation. Herein, we conduct a systematic study to screen various metallic catalysts and discover Pd/C exhibits a 43.8% ethylamine Faradaic efficiency at the current density of 200 mA cm−2 with a specific production rate of 2912.5 mmol g−1 h−1, which is about an order of magnitude higher than the other screened metal catalysts. Operando characterizations indicate the in-situ formed PdHx is the active centers for catalytic reaction and the adsorption strength of the *MeCH2NH2 intermediate dictates the catalytic selectivity. More importantly, the theoretical analysis reveals a classic d-band mediated volcano curve to describe the relation between the electronic structures of catalysts and activity, which could provide valuable insights for designing more effective catalysts for electrochemical hydrogenation reactions and beyond. While Ru owns superior catalytic activity toward hydrogen oxidation reaction and cost advantages, the catalyst deactivation under high anodic potential range severely limits its potential to replace the Pt benchmark catalyst. Unveiling the deactivation mechanism of Ru and correspondingly developing protection strategies remain a great challenge. Herein, we develop atomic Pt-functioned Ru nanoparticles with excellent anti-deactivation feature and meanwhile employ advanced operando characterization tools to probe the underlying roles of Pt in the anti-deactivation. Our studies reveal the introduced Pt single atoms effectively prevent Ru from oxidative passivation and consequently preserve the interfacial water network for the critical H* oxidative release during catalysis. Clearly understanding the deactivation nature of Ru and Pt-induced anti-deactivation under atomic levels could provide valuable insights for rationally designing stable Ru-based catalysts for hydrogen oxidation reaction and beyond.Despite the high intrinsic activity of Ru for hydrogen oxidation reaction, the surface oxidation-induced deactivation limits the application. Electrochemical reduction of acetonitrile to ethylamine with a high selectivity is a novel approach to manufacture valuable primary amines which are important raw material in organic chemical industry. However, the poor ethylamine Faradic efficiency (FEethylamine) and catalyst stability at the high current density prohibit this method from being practically used. Herein, CuNi alloy ultrafine-nano-particles based on the d-orbital coupling modulation were synthesized through the electrodeposition and their catalytic performance towards acetonitrile reduction reaction (ACNRR) has been systematically studied. The highest FEethylamine (97%) is achieved with the current density of −114 mA cm−2. For practical application, the current density can reach −602.8 mA cm−2 with 82.8% FEethylamine maintained. With the appearance of other organics which co-exist with acetonitrile in the SOHIO process, CuNi can also hydrogenate acetonitrile in it with more than 80% FEethylamine. Our in-situ spectroscopy analysis and DFT calculations towards the acetonitrile hydrogenation behavior reveal that the evenly dispersed Ni in Cu modulates the d-band so as to endow CuNi with the better acetonitrile adsorption, milder binding energy with the reaction intermediates, smaller barrier for *CH3CH2NH2 desorption and higher ability for H2O dissociation to provide *H. Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD), a common malformation of cortical development, is frequently associated with pharmacoresistant epilepsy in both children and adults. Adenosine is an inhibitory modulator of brain activity and a prospective anti-seizure agent with potential for clinical translation. Our previous results demonstrated that the major adenosine-metabolizing enzyme adenosine kinase (ADK) was upregulated in balloon cells (BCs) within FCD type IIB lesions, suggesting that dysfunction of the adenosine system is implicated in the pathophysiology of FCD. In our current study, we therefore performed a comprehensive analysis of adenosine signaling in surgically resected cortical specimens from patients with FCD type I and type II via immunohistochemistry and immunoblot analysis. Adenosine enzyme signaling was assessed by quantifying the levels of the key enzymes of adenosine metabolism, i.e., ADK, adenosine deaminase (ADA), and ecto-5'-nucleotidase (CD73). Adenosine receptor signaling was assessed by quantifying the levels of adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) and putative downstream mediators of adenosine, namely, glutamate transporter-1 (GLT-1) and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). Within lesions in FCD specimens, we found that the adenosine-metabolizing enzymes ADK and ADA, as well as the adenosine-producing enzyme CD73, were upregulated. We also observed an increase in A2AR density, as well as a decrease in GLT-1 levels and an increase in mTOR levels, in FCD specimens compared with control tissue. These results suggest that dysregulation of the adenosine system is a common pathologic feature of both FCD type I and type II. Copper is well-known to be selective to primary amines via electrocatalytic nitriles hydrogenation. However, the correlation between the local fine structure and catalytic selectivity is still illusive. Herein, we find that residual lattice oxygen in oxide-derived Cu nanowires (OD-Cu NWs) plays vital roles in boosting the acetonitrile electroreduction efficiency. Especially at high current densities of more than 1.0 A cm−2, OD-Cu NWs exhibit relatively high Faradic efficiency. Meanwhile, a series of advanced in situ characterizations and theoretical calculations uncover that oxygen residues, in the form of Cu4-O configuration, act as electron acceptors to confine the free electron flow on the Cu surface, consequently improving the kinetics of nitriles hydrogenation catalysis. This work could provide new opportunities to further improve the hydrogenation performance of nitriles and beyond, by employing lattice oxygen-mediated electron tuning engineering. The friction between nanomaterials and Teflon magnetic stirring rods has recently drawn much attention for its role in dye degradation by magnetic stirring in dark. Presently the friction between TiO2 nanoparticles and magnetic stirring rods in water has been deliberately enhanced and explored. As much as 1.00 g TiO2 nanoparticles were dispersed in 50 mL water in 100 mL quartz glass reactor, which got gas-closed with about 50 mL air and a Teflon magnetic stirring rod in it. The suspension in the reactor was magnetically stirred in dark. Flammable gases of 22.00 ppm CO, 2.45 ppm CH4, and 0.75 ppm H2 were surprisingly observed after 50 h of magnetic stirring. For reference, only 1.78 ppm CO, 2.17 ppm CH4, and 0.33 ppm H2 were obtained after the same time of magnetic stirring without TiO2 nanoparticles. Four magnetic stirring rods were simultaneously employed to further enhance the stirring, and as much as 30.04 ppm CO, 2.61 ppm CH4, and 8.98 ppm H2 were produced after 50 h of magnetic stirring. A mechanism for the catalytic role of TiO2 nanoparticles in producing the flammable gases is established, in which mechanical energy is absorbed through friction by TiO2 nanoparticles and converted into chemical energy for the reduction of CO2 and H2O. Two-dimensional (2D) platinum (Pt)-based nanomaterials are considered as the ideal fuel cell catalysts, while their rational synthesis associated with phase control remains a formidable challenge. Herein, we firstly design the novel 2D Pt-lead-sulphur heterophased nanosheets (PtPbS HPNSs) as efficient high-toleration electrocatalysts for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR). They exhibit much higher activity and more highlighted bifunctional antipoisoning abilities than PtPb NSs and commercial Pt/C. Further density functional theory (DFT) simulation verifies that the decreased electron density of Pt sites worked by Pb and S makes CO intermediate favorable to desorb, avoiding the formation of CO*-polluted Pt sites. Simultaneously, this heterophased interface effectively weakens the adsorption of S2−-species and improves the S-poisoning tolerance, showing a route to realize nearly innoxious catalysis. The present work highlights the importance of heterophase control in tuning antipoisoning property for 2D Pt-based nanomaterials, which is key for the rational design of efficient fuel cell anodic catalysts. Hippocampal sclerosis (HS) is one of the most prevalent pathological types of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), and it significantly affects patient prognoses. The methylation of DNA plays an important role in the development of epilepsy. However, few studies have focused on HS subtypes to determine DNA methylation profiles in TLE. This study aimed to determine the pathogenesis of TLE from an epigenetic perspective in patients with TLE-HS type I (TLE-HSTI) and TLE without HS (TLE-nHS) using whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS). We defined 1171 hypermethylated and 2537 hypomethylated regions and found 632 differentially methylated genes (DMG) in the promoter region that were primarily involved in the regulation of various aspects of epilepsy development. Twelve DMG overlapped with differentially expressed genes (DEG) in the promoter region, and RT-qPCR findings revealed significant overexpression of the SBNO2, CBX3, RASAL3, and TMBIM4 genes in TLE-HSTI. We present the first systematic analysis of methylation profiles of TLE-HSTI and TLE-nHS from an epigenetic perspective using WGBS. Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is associated with neurodegeneration, often leading to hippocampal sclerosis (HS). Type 1 HS, which is characterized by severe neuronal loss and gliosis predominantly in regions CA1 and CA4, is the most common subtype and is associated with the best prognosis according to the ILAE classification system. MiRNAs participate in the biological processes underlying many nervous system diseases, including epilepsy. However, the miRNA expression profile of HS ILAE type 1 is not completely understood. A total of 14 patients were identified as having the ILAE subtype, as determined by NeuN immunohistochemistry (ILAE type 1 = 7; no-HS = 7). Next-generation sequencing and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction technology were used to validate the dysregulated miRNAs. Bioinformatics analysis of the predicted target genes was conducted using Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses. In total, 1643 mature miRNAs were detected in this study, along with 5 miRNAs that were upregulated and 2 miRNAs that were downregulated in the type 1 group. Bioinformatics analysis showed that 1545 target genes were predicted using the miRDB and Targetscan databases and that these predicted genes showed enrichment in pathways associated with nucleic acid binding, intracellular and cellular macromolecule metabolic processes, and the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. This study is the first to report the miRNA expression profile of HS ILAE type 1 compared with those of no-HS. These results provide new insights into the neuronal loss pathology of type 1 HS.
