The photoinduced non-thermalized hot electrons at an interface play a pivotal role in determining plasmonic driven chemical events. However, understanding non-thermalized electron dynamics, which precedes electron thermalization (~125 fs), remains a grand challenge. Herein, we simultaneously captured the dynamics of both molecules and non-thermalized electrons in the MXene/molecule complexes by femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopy. The real-time observation allows for distinguishing non-thermalized and thermalized electron responses. Differing from the thermalized electron/heat transfer, our results reveal two non-thermalized electron dynamical pathways: (i) the non-thermalized electrons directly transfer to attached molecules at an interface within 50 fs; (ii) the non-thermalized electrons scatter at the interface within 125 fs, inducing adsorbed molecules heating. These two distinctive pathways are dependent on the irradiating wavelength and the energy difference between MXene and adsorbed molecules. This research sheds light on the fundamental mechanism and opens opportunities in photocatalysis and interfacial heat transfer theory. In this study, a thermal-responsive hydrogel, sodium alginate/polyamidoxime/poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogel (SA/PAO/PNIPAm), was prepared via radical polymerization. The uranium (U) capturing properties of the hydrogel were investigated. The results reveal that SA/PAO/PNIPAm can effectively remove U(VI) from aqueous solution, and the maximal adsorption capacity was calculated to be 319.49 mg g−1 at 305.15 K and pH 5.0. Furthermore, the adsorption mechanism was revealed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis and density functional theory simulations. Plasmonic MXenes are of particular interest, because of their unique electron and phonon structures and multiple surface plasmon effects, which are different from traditional plasmonic materials. However, to date, how electronic energy damp to lattice vibrations (phonons) in MXenes has not been unraveled. Here, we employed ultrafast broadband impulsive vibrational spectroscopy to identify the energy damping channels in MXenes (Ti3C2Tx and Mo2CTx). Distinctive from the well-known damping pathways, our results demonstrate a different energy damping channel, in which the Ti3C2Tx plasmonic electron energy transfers to coherent phonons by nonthermal electron mediation after Landau damping, without involving electron-electron scattering. Moreover, electrons are observed to strongly couple with A1g mode (~60 fs, 85–100%) and weakly couple with Eg mode (1–2 ps, 0–15%). Our results provide new insight into the electron-phonon interaction in MXenes, which allows the design of materials enabling efficient manipulation of electron transport and energy conversion. Vibrationally excited molecular hydrogen has been commonly observed in the dense photo-dominated regions (PDRs). It plays an important role in understanding the chemical evolution in the interstellar medium. Until recently, it was widely accepted that vibrational excitation of interstellar H2 was achieved by shock wave or far-ultraviolet fluorescence pumping. Here we show a further pathway to produce vibrationally excited H2 via the water photochemistry. The results indicate that the H2 fragments identified in the O(1S) + H2(X1Σg+) channel following vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photodissociation of H2O in the wavelength range of λ = ~100-112 nm are vibrationally excited. In particular, more than 90% of H2(X) fragments populate in a vibrational state v = 3 at λ~112.81 nm. The abundance of water and VUV photons in the interstellar space suggests that the contributions of these vibrationally excited H2 from the water photochemistry could be significant and should be recognized in appropriate interstellar chemistry models. The deformation mechanism and constitutive equation of Ti-Mo steel in the mushy zone were investigated through high-temperature compression deformation. Nonlinear fitting and polynomial fitting were used to build a precise constitutive model. The law of microstructure evolution was also researched. During the deformation of Ti-Mo steel in the mushy zone, the liquid phase was squeezed to the edge, and macro separation between the solid and liquid occurred after deformation. The extent of dynamic crystallization in Ti-Mo steel increased with increasing strain rate, which is quite different from the dynamic recrystallization occurring during deformation in the solid region. The critical condition for dynamic recrystallization decreased and the grain refinement degree increased due to the return temperature effect of the liquid between solid particles. The prediction accuracy of the modified Fields–Backofen (FB) model with a liquid-phase adjustment factor was compared with that of the Arrhenius model with a liquid-phase adjustment factor. The results showed that the modified FB model had low prediction accuracy. The Arrhenius model with a liquid-phase adjustment factor was revised according to different strain rates. The revised model had higher prediction accuracy and was suitable for describing the metal rheology in the mushy zone of Ti-Mo steel, with accuracy of approximately 90 pct. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The detailed features of molecular photochemistry are key to understanding chemical processes enabled by non-adiabatic transitions between potential energy surfaces. But even in a small molecule like hydrogen sulphide (H2S), the influence of non-adiabatic transitions is not yet well understood. Here we report high resolution translational spectroscopy measurements of the H and S(1D) photoproducts formed following excitation of H2S to selected quantum levels of a Rydberg state with 1B1 electronic symmetry at wavelengths λ ~ 139.1 nm, revealing rich photofragmentation dynamics. Analysis reveals formation of SH(X), SH(A), S(3P) and H2 co-fragments, and in the diatomic products, inverted internal state population distributions. These nuclear dynamics are rationalised in terms of vibronic and rotational dependent predissociations, with relative probabilities depending on the parent quantum level. The study suggests likely formation routes for the S atoms attributed to solar photolysis of H2S in the coma of comets like C/1995 O1 and C/2014 Q2. The photodissociation dynamics of small molecules in the vacuum ultraviolet range can have key implications for astrochemical modelling, but revealing such dynamical details is a challenging task. The provenance of oxygen on the Earth and other planets in the Solar System is a fundamental issue. It has been widely accepted that the only prebiotic pathway to produce oxygen in the Earth's primitive atmosphere was via vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photodissociation of CO2 and subsequent two O atom recombination. Here, we provide experimental evidence of three-body dissociation (TBD) of H2O to produce O atoms in both 1D and 3P states upon VUV excitation using a tunable VUV free electron laser. Experimental results show that the TBD is the dominant pathway in the VUV H2O photochemistry at wavelengths between 90 and 107.4 nm. The relative abundance of water in the interstellar space with its exposure to the intense VUV radiation suggests that the TBD of H2O and subsequent O atom recombination should be an important prebiotic O2-production, which may need to be incorporated into interstellar photochemical models. Three-body dissociation of water, producing one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms, has been difficult to investigate due to the lack of intense vacuum ultraviolet sources. The recent development of neuroimaging technology and network theory allows us to visualize and characterize the whole-brain functional connectivity in vivo. The importance of conventional structural image atlas widely used in population-based neuroimaging studies has been well verified. Similarly, a "common" brain connectivity map (also called connectome atlas) across individuals can open a new pathway to interpreting disorder-related brain cognition and behaviors. However, the main obstacle of applying the classic image atlas construction approaches to the connectome data is that a regular data structure (such as a grid) in such methods breaks down the intrinsic geometry of the network connectivity derived from the irregular data domain (in the setting of a graph). To tackle this hurdle, we first embed the brain network into a set of graph signals in the Euclidean space via the diffusion mapping technique. Furthermore, we cast the problem of connectome atlas construction into a novel learning-based graph inference model. It can be constructed by iterating the following processes: (1) align all individual brain networks to a common space spanned by the graph spectrum bases of the latent common network, and (2) learn graph Laplacian of the common network that is in consensus with all aligned brain networks. We have evaluated our novel method for connectome atlas construction in comparison with non-learning-based counterparts. Based on experiments using network connectivity data from populations with neurodegenerative and neuropediatric disorders, our approach has demonstrated statistically meaningful improvement over existing methods. Hydrogen sulfide radicals in the ground state, SH(X), and hydrogen disulfide molecules, H2S, are both detected in the interstellar medium, but the returned SH(X)/H2S abundance ratios imply a depletion of the former relative to that predicted by current models (which assume that photon absorption by H2S at energies below the ionization limit results in H + SH photoproducts). Here we report that translational spectroscopy measurements of the H atoms and S(1D) atoms formed by photolysis of jet-cooled H2S molecules at many wavelengths in the range 122 ≤ λ ≤155 nm offer a rationale for this apparent depletion; the quantum yield for forming SH(X) products, Γ, decreases from unity (at the longest excitation wavelengths) to zero at short wavelengths. Convoluting the wavelength dependences of Γ, the H2S parent absorption and the interstellar radiation field implies that only ~26% of photoexcitation events result in SH(X) products. The findings suggest a need to revise the relevant astrochemical models. Sulfur is abundant in the Universe, but the observed abundance ratio of SH to H2S doesn't agree with astrochemical models. The authors measure product state-resolved translational energy spectra of photoproducts in a jet-cooled H2S beam as a function of wavelength, showing that SH yield is lower than assumed in the models. The functional brain network has gained increased attention in the neuroscience community because of its ability to reveal the underlying architecture of human brain. In general, majority work of functional network connectivity is built based on the correlations between discrete-time-series signals that link only two different brain regions. However, these simple region-to-region connectivity models do not capture complex connectivity patterns between three or more brain regions that form a connectivity subnetwork, or subnetwork for short. To overcome this current limitation, a hypergraph learning-based method is proposed to identify subnetwork differences between two different cohorts. To achieve our goal, a hypergraph is constructed, where each vertex represents a subject and also a hyperedge encodes a subnetwork with similar functional connectivity patterns between different subjects. Unlike previous learning-based methods, our approach is designed to jointly optimize the weights for all hyperedges such that the learned representation is in consensus with the distribution of phenotype data, i.e. clinical labels. In order to suppress the spurious subnetwork biomarkers, we further enforce a sparsity constraint on the hyperedge weights, where a larger hyperedge weight indicates the subnetwork with the capability of identifying the disorder condition. We apply our hypergraph learning-based method to identify subnetwork biomarkers in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). A comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analysis is performed, and the results show that our approach can correctly classify ASD and ADHD subjects from normal controls with 87.65 and 65.08% accuracies, respectively. Purpose: In the present work, we intended to explore the function of enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) in modulated anesthetic reagent bupivacaine-induced neuronal apoptosis in spinal cord dorsal root ganglia (DRG).Methods: Murine DRG explant was treated with 5 mM bupivacaine in vitro to induce neuronal apoptosis, which was examined by a TUNEL assay. Protein and mRNA expressions of EZH2 in bupivacaine-treated DRG were examined by western blot and qRT-PCR assays. EZH2 was downregulated by siRNA in bupivacaine-treated DRG. Its functional role in protecting bupivacaine-induced neuronal apoptosis was examined. In addition, apoptotic protein caspase-9 and EZH2-associated signaling pathway, and tropomyosin receptor kinase C (TrkC) were further investigated, by western blot assay, in EZH2-downregulated and bupivacaine-injured DRG.Results: In vitro treatment of bupivacaine-induced DRG neuronal apoptosis, and upregulated EZH2 at both protein and mRNA levels. SiRNA transfection successfully downregulated EZH2, as confirmed by western blot and qRT-PCR assays. Examination of TUNEL assay showed that EZH2 downregulation rescued bupivacaine-induced DRG neuronal apoptosis. Moreover, in bupivacaine-injured DRG, EZH2 downregulation reduced caspase-9, whereas upregulated TrkC and phosphorylated-TrkC (p-TrkC).Conclusion: EZH2 is upregulated, whereas inhibiting EZH2 exerted rescuing effect in anesthetics (bupivacaine)-induced spinal cord DRG. In the fabrication of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) thin films and membranes, the preparation of stable ZIFs dispersions is crucial. Herein, ultra-stable ZIF-8 aqueous dispersions were obtained successfully for the first time. It was found that, after the synthesis of ZIF-8, with the increased washing times, the positive surface potentials of ZIF-8 particles decrease, resulting in increased aggregate size. The ZIF-8 dispersions washed for zero times are very stable in water, and there is no settlement even after centrifuging at 8000 rpm for 6 min. The aggregate size of ZIF-8 dispersions in ethanol aqueous solutions decreases with increased ethanol content, and there is no apparent settlement in absolute ethanol even after 13 days. The ultra-stable ZIF-8 dispersions display great potentials in fabrication of thin films and membranes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
