Background: Stigma has been recently identified as a crucial factor associated with the psychosocial burden of those who have chronic skin diseases. The self-stigma experiences of children living with atopic dermatitis (AD) have yet to be fully investigated, and questions of how these children respond to public stigma and how AD symptoms further affect their self-stigma experiences remain unresolved. The current qualitative study aimed to (1) describe the main manifestations of self-stigma in children living with AD; (2) investigate factors that might influence their self-stigma experiences; and (3) explore the potential mechanisms underlying the impacts of AD on their psychosocial well-being from the self-stigma perspective. Methods: We performed a secondary analysis of the qualitative literal transcription data which were collected earlier by using the participatory, drawing-based qualitative interviews with 17 children aged 8–12 who were diagnosed with severe or moderate AD. Results: The qualitative findings indicated that the visible and invisible symptoms of AD and its management exerted unique influences on self-stigma in children living with AD, which manifested in cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects and ultimately affected their psychosocial well-being. Conclusions: Findings of this study allowed us to advocate for eliminating public stigma of people with skin diseases and propose recommendations for helping children living with AD relieve their self-stigma. Objectives: Involving parents and children in mindfulness-based interventions may holistically benefit family well-being. This meta-analysis systematically reviews and synthesizes the effects of mindfulness-based parallel-group (MBPG) interventions, which simultaneously involve parent and child, on family functioning, and the mental health of parents and children. Methods: A total of 20 relevant studies were identified from 14 databases. The overall intervention effect size was estimated by pooled standardized mean difference. Moderator analyses were performed to explain the variability in intervention effects. Risk of bias and publication bias were also assessed. Results: MBPG interventions showed minor-to-small positive effects on family functioning (d = 0.182, 95% CI [0.045, 0.319]), parental mental health (d = 0.238, 95% CI [0.110, 0.365]), and child mental health (d = 0.325, 95% CI [0.137, 0.513]). The effects of MBPG interventions on child mental health varied significantly by child age, child gender, recruitment setting, type of parent group, other activities in child group, other activities in parent group, and study design. Conclusions: MBPG interventions show promising effects in improving mental health of both parents and children as well as in improving overall family functioning. However, significant variations exist in characteristics of participants, interventions, and study designs. Given the limited evidence currently available, more studies are needed to assess the determinants of effectiveness in MBPG interventions. Intra-individual variability in affect has been associated with aspects of individuals' lives, such as everyday social interactions. Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) has been tailored to assess the dynamics of everyday events and feelings and in recent decades there has been a burgeoning of EMA research on the intra-individual links between social interactions and momentary affect in daily life. This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to identify within-person relationships between social interactions with positive affect (PA) and negative affect (NA). Both quantitative and qualitative features of social interaction (i.e., uniqueness of the partner, interpersonal perceptions of an interaction) predict within-person variance in PA and NA. The results of meta-analysis indicated small-sized associations between quantitative features of social interactions with PA and NA, and moderate-sized associations between qualitative features of social interactions with PA and NA, which were only somewhat moderated by methodological factors. We conclude that EMA is a promising method of investigating intra-individual variability in affect unfolding in everyday social environments and offer suggestions for substantiating the within-person perspective to both researchers and clinicians.
