Nominally anhydrous minerals (NAMs) composing Earth's and planetary rocks incorporate microscopic amounts of volatiles. However, volatile distribution in NAMs and their effect on physical properties of rocks remain controversial. Thus, constraining trace volatile concentrations in NAMs is tantamount to our understanding of the evolution of rocky planets and planetesimals. Here, we present an approach of trace-element quantification using micro-scale Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. This approach employs the principle of enhanced mass-sensitivity in NMR microcoils. We were able to demonstrate that this method is in excellent agreement with standard methods across their respective detection capabilities. We show that by simultaneous detection of internal reference nuclei, the quantification sensitivity can be substantially increased, leading to quantifiable trace volatile element amounts of about 50 ng/g measured in a micro-meter sized single anorthitic mineral grain, greatly enhancing detection capabilities of volatiles in geologically important systems. Purpose: Migraine, a severely debilitating condition, may be effectively managed with topiramate, known for its migraine prevention and weight loss properties due to changes in body muscle and fat composition and improved insulin sensitivity. However, the mechanism of topiramate in modulating insulin response in adipocytes and myocytes remains elusive. This study aims to elucidate these molecular mechanisms, offering insights into its role in weight management for migraine sufferers and underpinning its clinical application. Methods: Insulin resistance improvements were evaluated through glucose uptake measurements in C2C12 muscle cells and 3T3L-1 adipocytes, with Oil red O staining conducted on adipocytes. RNA-seq transcriptome analysis was used to identify the regulatory target genes of topiramate in these cells. The involvement of key genes and pathways was further validated through western blot analysis. Results: Topiramate effectively reduced insulin resistance in C2C12 and 3T3L-1 cells. In C2C12 cells, it significantly lowered SORBS1 gene and protein levels. In 3T3L-1 cells, topiramate upregulated CTGF and downregulated MAPK8 and KPNA1 genes. Changes were notable in nuclear cytoplasmic transport and circadian signaling pathways. Furthermore, it caused downregulation of MKK7, pJNK1/ JNK1, BMAL1, and CLOCK proteins compared to the insulin-resistant model. Conclusion: This study provides preliminary insights into the mechanisms through which topiramate modulates insulin resistance in C2C12 myocytes and 3T3L-1 adipocytes, enhancing our understanding of its therapeutic potential in managing weight and insulin sensitivity in migraine patients. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a severe hazard to human health. Since pathogenesis of UC is still unclear, current therapy for UC treatment is far from optimal. Isoxanthohumol (IXN), a prenylflavonoid from hops and beer, possesses anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-angiogenic properties. However, the potential effects of IXN on the alleviation of colitis and the action of the mechanism is rarely studied. Here, we found that administration of IXN (60 mg/kg/day, gavage) significantly attenuated dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis, evidenced by reduced DAI scores and histological improvements, as well as suppressed the pro-inflammatory Th17/Th1 cells but promoted the anti-inflammatory Treg cells. Mechanically, oral IXN regulated T cell development, including inhibiting CD4+ T cell proliferation, promoting apoptosis, and regulating Treg/Th17 balance. Furthermore, IXN relieved colitis by restoring gut microbiota disorder and increasing gut microbiota diversity, which was manifested by maintaining the ratio of Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes balance, promoting abundance of Bacteroidetes and Ruminococcus, and suppressing abundance of proteobacteria. At the same time, the untargeted metabolic analysis of serum samples showed that IXN promoted the upregulation of D-(+)-mannose and L-threonine and regulated pyruvate metabolic pathway. Collectively, our findings revealed that IXN could be applied as a functional food component and served as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of UC. Model of IXN ameliorated DSS-induced colitis via regulating T cell development and restoring gut microbiota. Oral IXN could effectively alleviate DSS-induced colitis. Background: Infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae are common and result in high mortality rates. In vitro studies demonstrated the potency of cefoperazone/sulbactam (CPZ/SUL) against Klebsiella pneumoniae. However, the clinical efficacy of CPZ/SUL for the treatment of K. pneumoniae bacteremia has not been studied. Objectives: This study aimed to associate the clinical outcomes of patients with bacteremia with the minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of CPZ/SUL against the causative K. pneumoniae isolates. Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study was conducted in Taiwan between July 2017 and April 2021. Patients with K. pneumoniae bacteremia treated with CPZ/SUL were enrolled in this study. CPZ/SUL MICs were determined using the agar dilution method. Data on the patients' clinical outcomes and characteristics were collected and analyzed. Results: In total, 201 patients were enrolled. Among the causative K. pneumoniae isolates, 180 (89.5%) were susceptible to CPZ/SUL. Most patients (n = 156, 77.6%) had favorable outcomes. The 30-day mortality rate was 11.9% (n = 24). Multivariate risk analyses showed that higher APACHE II score (Odds Ratio [OR], 1.14; Confidence Interval [CI], 1.07–1.21; p < 0.001), metastatic tumors (OR, 5.76; CI, 2.31–14.40; p < 0.001), and causative K. pneumoniae CPZ/SUL MICs > 16 µg/ml (OR, 4.30; CI, 1.50–12.27; p = 0.006) were independently associated with unfavorable outcomes. Conclusion: Patients with K. pneumoniae bacteremia treated with CPZ/SUL at a ratio 1:1 had favorable outcomes when the CPZ/SUL MICs were ≤ 16 µg/ml. Environmental flow (e-flow) is the water demand of one given ecosystem, which can become the flow regulation target for protection and restoration of river or estuarine ecosystems. In this study, an e-flow assessment based on the flow-ecological health index (EHI) relation model was conducted to improve ecosystem health of the Yangtze River Estuary (YRE). Monitoring data of hydrology, biology, and water environment in the last decades were used for the model establishment. For the description of the YRE ecosystem, an EHI system was developed by cumulative frequency distribution curves and adaption of national standards. After preprocessing original flow values into proportional flow values, the generalized additive model and Monte Carlo random sampling were used for the establishment of the flow-EHI relation model. From the model calculation, the e-flow assessment results were that, in proportional flow values, the suitable flow range was 1.05–1.35, and the optimum flow range was 1.15–1.25 (flows in Yangtze River Datong Station). For flow regulation in two crucial periods, flows of 42,630–65,545 m3/s or over 14,675 m3/s are needed for the suitable flow of YRE in summer (June–August) or January, respectively. An adaptive management framework of ecological health–based estuarine e-flow assessment for YRE was contrived due to the limitation of current established model when facing the extreme drought in summer, 2022. The methodology and framework in this study are expected to provide valuable management and data support for the sustainable development of estuarine ecosystems and to bring inspiration for further studies at even continental or global levels. Key message: The BrrFT paralogues exhibit distinct expression patterns and play different roles in regulating flowering time, and BrrFT4 competes with BrrFT1 and BrrFT2 to interact with BrrFD proteins. Flowering time is an important agricultural trait for Brassica crops, and early bolting strongly affects the yield and quality of Brassica rapa ssp. rapa. Flowering Locus T paralogues play an important role in regulating flowering time. In this study, we identified FT-related genes in turnip by phylogenetic classification, and four BrrFT homoeologs that shared with high identities with BraFT genes were isolated. The different gene structures, promoter binding sites, and expression patterns observed indicated that these genes may play different roles in flowering time regulation. Further genetic and biochemical experiments showed that as for FT-like paralogues, BrrFT2 acted as the key floral inducer, and BrrFT1 seems to act as a mild ‘florigen’ protein. However, BrrFT4 acts as a floral repressor and antagonistically regulates flowering time by competing with BrrFT1 and BrrFT2 to bind BrrFD proteins. The aim of this study is to provide effective solutions to promote the transition of resource-based cities to low carbon and sustainable development. Firstly, this study investigates the background of low-carbon transformation of resource-based cities. Secondly, it introduces the application method of Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT) in detail. Finally, this study proposes a comprehensive application of ChatGPT and artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm. The results show that the average energy utilization efficiency improvement index of the group using ChatGPT is 0.11. The average energy efficiency improvement index of the group using ABC algorithm is 0.02 higher than that of the control group. The integrated application of ChatGPT and ABC algorithm can further improve the low-carbon transformation effect of resource-based cities and achieve the goal of green development. Background: Ischemic stroke still ranks as the most fatal disease worldwide. Blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a promising therapeutic target for protection. Brain microvascular endothelial cell is a core component of BBB, the barrier function maintenance of which can ameliorate ischemic injury and improve neurological deficit. Se-methyl L-selenocysteine (SeMC) has been shown to exert cardiovascular protection. However, the protection of SeMC against ischemic stroke remains to be elucidated. This research was designed to explore the protection of SeMC from the perspective of BBB protection. Methods: To simulate cerebral ischemic injury, C57BL/6J mice were subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R), and bEnd.3 was exposed to oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R). After the intervention of SeMC, the barrier function and the expression of tight junction and ferroptosis-associated proteins were determined. For mechanism exploration, LY294002 (Akt inhibitor) was introduced both in vivo and in vitro. Results: SeMC lessened the brain infarct volume and attenuated the leakage of BBB in mice. In vitro, SeMC improved cell viability and maintained the barrier function of bEnd.3 cells. The protection of SeMC was accompanied with ferroptosis inhibition and tight junction protein upregulation. Mechanism studies revealed that the effect of SeMC was reversed by LY294002, indicating that the protection of SeMC against ischemic stroke was mediated by the Akt signal pathway. Conclusion: These results suggested that SeMC exerted protection against ischemic stroke, which might be attributed to activating the Akt/GSK3β signaling pathway and increasing the nuclear translocation of Nrf2 and β-catenin, subsequently maintaining the integrity of BBB. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a one-session sexual health education program using a transtheoretical model to enhance sexual self-efficacy in patients with cervical cancer. Methods: This study recruited patients with cervical cancer from the gynecological wards of a medical center in northern Taiwan. A total of 63 participants were divided into 2 groups: the control group (n = 30) received traditional sexual health education. The intervention group (n = 33) participated in a transtheoretical model (TTM)‐based sexual health education program. Scores from self-report questionnaires for variables of knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy regarding sexual health collected 1 and 6 weeks after the intervention were compared with baseline scores. Results: Patients who received transtheoretical model (TTM)-based sexual health education had significantly greater sexual knowledge (β = 3.794, p < 0.01), sexual attitudes (β = 9.226, p < 0.01), and sexual self-efficacy (β = 17.053, p < 0.01) than those who received traditional sexual health education at 1 and 6 weeks. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that a one-session sexual health education using a TTM-based model can enhance sexual knowledge, attitudes, and sexual self-efficacy among patients with cervical cancer. This educational program can be translated into routine clinical practice to help patients with cervical cancer enhance their sexual health and improve confidence in their sexual well-being. Introduction: The benefit/risk profiles of biologics can be affected by comorbidities, certain demographic characteristics, and concomitant medications; therefore, it is important to evaluate the long-term safety profiles of biologics across broad patient populations. Guselkumab was well tolerated and efficacious across individual pivotal clinical studies in adults with moderate-to-severe psoriasis and/or active psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Objectives: The objective of the current analysis was to evaluate guselkumab safety in a large population of patients with psoriatic disease by pooling adverse event (AE) data from 11 phase II/III studies (seven in psoriasis; four in PsA). Methods: Guselkumab was generally administered as 100 mg subcutaneous injections at Week 0, Week 4, then every 8 weeks (Q8W) in psoriasis studies and at Week 0, Week 4, then every 4 weeks (Q4W) or Q8W in PsA studies. Safety data were summarized for the placebo-controlled period (Weeks 0–16 in psoriasis; Weeks 0–24 in PsA) and through the end of the reporting period (up to 5 years in psoriasis; up to 2 years in PsA). Using the integrated data, incidence rates of key AEs were determined post hoc, adjusted for duration of follow-up, and reported per 100 patient-years (PYs). AE rates were also determined in subgroups of patients defined by sex, age, body mass index (BMI), and prior biologic use. Results: During the placebo-controlled period, 1061 patients received placebo (395 PYs) and 2257 received guselkumab (856 PYs). Through the end of the reporting period, 4399 guselkumab-treated patients contributed 10,787 PYs of follow-up. During the placebo-controlled period, in the guselkumab and placebo groups, respectively, rates of AEs were 281 versus 272/100 PYs, and infections were 76.0 versus 72.2/100 PYs. Rates of serious AEs (5.6 vs. 7.8/100 PYs), AEs leading to discontinuation (4.9 vs. 6.6/100 PYs), serious infections (1.0 vs. 2.3/100 PYs), malignancy (0.59 vs. 0.25 patients/100 PYs), and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE; 0.35 vs. 0.25/100 PYs) were low and comparable between guselkumab and placebo. Among guselkumab-treated patients, safety event rates through the end of the reporting period were numerically lower than or comparable with rates observed during the placebo-controlled period: AEs, 164/100 PYs; infections, 61.2/100 PYs; serious AEs, 5.4/100 PYs; AEs leading to discontinuation, 1.8/100 PYs; serious infections, 1.0/100 PYs; malignancy, 0.6/100 PYs; and MACE, 0.3/100 PYs. No AEs of Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or active tuberculosis were reported among guselkumab-treated patients. In the psoriasis studies, no opportunistic infections were reported among guselkumab-treated patients. Three AEs of opportunistic infections were reported in guselkumab-treated patients with PsA (0.14/100 PYs; all after Week 52 in DISCOVER-2). AE rates were largely consistent across subgroups of guselkumab-treated patients defined by sex, age, BMI, and prior biologic use. Conclusions: In this analysis of 4399 guselkumab-treated patients with psoriatic disease followed for 10,787 PYs, guselkumab had a favorable AE profile. AE rates were similar between guselkumab- and placebo-treated patients and were consistent throughout long-term guselkumab treatment and across broad subgroups of patients with psoriatic disease. This study aimed to investigate the effect of boron on porcine mammary epithelial cells (PMECs) survival, cell cycle, and milk fat synthesis. PMECs from boron-treated groups were exposed to 0–80 mmol/L boric acid concentrations. Cell counting kit-8 and flow cytometry assays were performed to assess cell survival and the cell cycle, respectively. Triacylglycerol (TAG) levels in PMECs and culture medium were determined by a triacylglycerol kit while PMECs lipid droplet aggregation was investigated via oil red staining. Milk fat synthesis–associated mRNA levels were determined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) while its protein expressions were determined by Western blot. Low (0.2, 0.3, 0.4 mmol/L) and high (> 10 mmol/L) boron concentrations significantly promoted and inhibited cell viabilities, respectively. Boron (0.3 mmol/L) markedly elevated the abundance of G2/M phase cells. Ten mmol/L boron significantly increased the abundances of G0/G1 and S phase cells, but markedly suppressed G2/M phase cell abundance. At 0.3 mmol/L, boron significantly enhanced ERK phosphorylation while at 0.4, 0.8, 1, and 10 mmol/L, it markedly decreased lipid droplet diameters. Boron (10 mmol/L) significantly suppressed ACACA and SREBP1 protein expressions. The FASN protein levels were markedly suppressed by 0.4, 0.8, 1, and 10 mmol/L boron. Both 1 and 10 mmol/L markedly decreased FASN and SREBP1 mRNA expressions. Ten mmol/L boron significantly decreased PPARα mRNA levels. Low concentrations of boron promoted cell viability, while high concentrations inhibited PMECS viabilities and reduced lipid droplet diameters, which shows the implications of boron in pregnancy and lactation. This study has documented the structural and stratigraphic investigations of the Darwaza, Tajwal, Masot, Bhurban, Dewal, and Malkot areas of Murree and KPK, Pakistan. The proposed territory is positioned along the western limb of the Hazara Kashmir syntaxis (HKS). The HKS is an anti-formal hairpin-like architecture, which is seismically an active folded-and-thrust belt in the sub-Himalayas of Pakistan. It was studied using the Kink method (stratigraphic and structural analysis) combined with detailed field observations. The results reveal that the sedimentary rock sequence is fully exposed to the area from the Middle Jurassic (Samana Suk Formation) to date (Quaternary alluvium). Structurally, the study area is highly deformed. Two main deformational episodes (D1 and D2) were recognized. D1 deformation is characterized by tight to isoclinal folds with penetrative axial plane cleavage, axes plunging N43°E/80°NW, and interlimb angle 03–05°, whereas D2 deformation is categorized by open to gentle-style folds with an axial plane ranging from N28°E/68° SE to N50°E/86°NW and an interlimb angle of 95–122°. Moreover, faults and folds are present in the area. Sandh overturned syncline, Sandh anticline, Sandh syncline, Daryagali anticline, Tandoi syncline, Bhurban anticline, and Potha syncline are the major folds. These folds are northwest verging and southeast or southwest plunging. These are isoclinal to gentle folds. The Darwaza fault, Masot fault, and Main Boundary Thrust (MBT) are the major faults in the study area. The health-improving functions of bioactive flavonoids in vitro and in vivo are often limited by their low stability, which could be counteracted by the application of proteins as carriers of flavonoids. Clarification of the mechanism of protein–ligand interaction is crucial for the encapsulation of bioactive components. Herein, common plasma proteins [i.e., bovine serum albumin (BSA), human serum albumin (HSA), human immunoglobulin G (IgG) and fibrinogen (FG)] were compared for their binding characteristics to quercetin, the main component of flavonoids in human diet, in the absence and presence of free Cu2+ (an accelerator for flavonoids' instability) using multi-spectroscopic and computational methods. As a flexible open structure of proteins, both BSA and HSA were found to be the most promising carriers for quercetin and Cu2+ with an affinity on the order of 104 M−1. HSA-diligand complex (i.e., HSA-quercetin-Cu2+) was successfully generated when both quercetin and Cu2+ were added to the HSA solution. The stability and free radical scavenging activity of bioactive quercetin during incubation was promoted in the HSA-diligand complex relative to quercetin-Cu2+ complex. Quercetin/Cu2+ system could induce the formation of reactive oxygen species such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and hydroxide radical (·OH), which were significantly suppressed upon HSA binding. Consistently, the cytotoxicity of the quercetin/Cu2+ system to endothelial cells was reduced in the HSA-diligand complex. Photogalvanic effect (PGE) occurs in materials with non-centrosymmetric structures when irradiated by linearly or circularly polarized light. Here, using non-equilibrium Green's function combined with density functional theory (NEGF-DFT), we investigated the linear photogalvanic effect (LPGE) in monolayers of group-V elements (As, Sb, and Bi) by first-principles calculations. First, by designing a two-probe structure based on the group-V elements, we found a giant anisotropy photoresponse of As between the armchair and zigzag directions. Then, we analyzed Sb and Bi's charge and spin photocurrent characteristics when considering the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect. It is found that when the polarization direction of linearly polarized light is parallel or perpendicular to the transport direction (θ = 0° or 90°), the spin up and spin down photoresponse in the armchair direction has the same magnitude and direction, leading to the generation of net charge current. However, in the zigzag direction, the spin up and spin down photoresponse have the same magnitude with opposite directions, leading to the generation of pure spin current. Furthermore, it is understood by analyzing the bulk spin photovoltaic (BSPV) coefficient from the symmetry point of view. Finally, we found that the net charge current generated in the armchair direction and the pure spin current generated in the zigzag direction can be further tuned with the increase of the material's buckling height ∣h∣. Our results highlight that these group-V monolayers are promising candidates for novel functional materials, which will provide a broad prospect for the realization of ultra-thin ferroelectric devices in optoelectronics due to their spontaneous polarization characteristics and high Curie temperature. Highlights: The tactile performance of ultralight multifunctional sensors can reach the level of human tactile perception. An individual sensor can provide multiple tactile sensations: pressure, temperature, materials recognition, and 3D location. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to integrate multiple sensing modules with different functions, which greatly simplifies system complexity and reduces energy loss. The tactile system with multimodal learning algorithms has universality and can accommodate object recognition tasks in various application scenarios (e.g., Mars and Kitchen). Humans can perceive our complex world through multi-sensory fusion. Under limited visual conditions, people can sense a variety of tactile signals to identify objects accurately and rapidly. However, replicating this unique capability in robots remains a significant challenge. Here, we present a new form of ultralight multifunctional tactile nano-layered carbon aerogel sensor that provides pressure, temperature, material recognition and 3D location capabilities, which is combined with multimodal supervised learning algorithms for object recognition. The sensor exhibits human-like pressure (0.04–100 kPa) and temperature (21.5–66.2 °C) detection, millisecond response times (11 ms), a pressure sensitivity of 92.22 kPa−1 and triboelectric durability of over 6000 cycles. The devised algorithm has universality and can accommodate a range of application scenarios. The tactile system can identify common foods in a kitchen scene with 94.63% accuracy and explore the topographic and geomorphic features of a Mars scene with 100% accuracy. Background: Iodine is an essential element for the biosynthesis of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). Both excessive and deficient iodine are major risk factors for thyroid diseases, including thyroid dysfunction, thyroid nodules, and thyroid autoimmunity (TAI). This study aimed to elucidate the relationship between iodine status and the prevalence of thyroid diseases through a national cross-sectional epidemiological survey in Jiangxi province (China). Methods: This population-based, cross-sectional study enrolled 2636 Chinese local inhabitants who aged over 18 years old from April to August in 2015. Physical examination was performed and biochemical indices, urinary iodine concentration (UIC), and TSH level were measured. The Chi-square test, nonparametric test, and 4 multivariate logistic regression models adjusted for risk factors were applied to analysis. Spearman correlation coefficients were calculated to investigate the relationship between iodine intake level and the prevalence of thyroid diseases. Results: The median UIC was 176.4 μg/L, and a significant difference was found in median UIC between men (182.45 μg/L) and women (169.25 μg/L) (P = 0.03). Among these study subjects, 14.4%, 44.5%, 26.1%, and 15.0% had deficient, adequate, more than adequate, and excessive iodine concentrations, respectively. The prevalence rates of hyperthyroidism, subclinical hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, subclinical hypothyroidism, thyroid nodules, and TAI were 0.91%, 0.57%, 0.34% and 7.89%, 9.45%, and 12.7%, respectively. Significant differences were found in iodine status, waist circumstance, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), total cholesterol (TC), TSH, thyroid nodules, and TAI between men and women (P < 0.05). Compared with those with adequate UIC, subjects with excessive UIC had higher prevalence rates of thyroid dysfunction (odds ratio (OR) = 1.74, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.40–2.54) and thyroid nodules (OR = 3.33, 95%CI 1.32–8.42). In addition, subjects with deficient and excessive UIC were at the higher risk of TAI compared with those with adequate UIC (OR = 1.68, 95%CI: 1.19–2.60; OR = 1.52, 95%CI: 1.04–2.96, respectively). UIC was positively correlated with the prevalence rates of thyroid nodules (r = −0.44, P < 0.01) and TAI (r = −0.055, P < 0.01). On the contrary, UIC was negatively correlated with the risk of thyroid dysfunction (r = −0.24, P > 0.05). Conclusion: Adult inhabitants from Jiangxi province in the TIDE study were in the adequate iodine status. Excessive iodine status was noted as a risk factor for thyroid dysfunction and thyroid nodules. In addition, both iodine deficiency and excessive iodine were risk factors for TAI. Background: Palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by sterile pustules on the palms and soles. This study evaluated the epidemiology of PPP using claims and electronic health record (EHR) databases. Methods: Patients coded for PPP in the United States (US) and Japan from 2016 to 2020 were identified. Several PPP definitions were evaluated; the specific definition (≥ 2 visits coded for PPP, the second 31–730 days after diagnosis) was chosen for characterizing PPP epidemiology. Baseline characteristics and pre- and post-diagnosis treatments were summarized. Prevalence and incidence rates were analyzed by calendar year, sex, age, and database. Results: Prevalence and incidence of PPP were higher in Japan than the US. PPP prevalence increased over time. PPP occurred predominantly in adulthood and was more common among women. Features of metabolic syndromes, anxiety, and depression were more common among US PPP patients. Consistently high baseline use of anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory/anti-rheumatic, and obstructive airway disease treatments was observed among PPP patients. Potential miscoding or misclassification of PPP limited this analysis. Prevalence estimates from databases may differ from field- and population-based approaches. Purpose: To assess the consistency of Ovarian-Adnexal Reporting and Data System (O-RADS) lexicon interpretation between senior and junior sonologists and to investigate its impact on O-RADS classification and diagnostic performance. Methods: We prospectively studied 620 patients with adnexal lesions, all of whom underwent transvaginal or transrectal ultrasound performed by a senior sonologist (R1) who selected the O-RADS lexicon description and O-RADS category for the lesion after the examination. Meanwhile, the junior sonologist (R2) analyzed the images retained by R1 and divided the lesion in the same way. Pathological findings were used as a reference standard. kappa (к) statistics were used to assess the interobserver agreement. Results: Of the 620 adnexal lesions, 532 were benign and 88 were malignant. When using the O-RADS lexicon, R1 and R2 had almost perfect agreement regarding lesion category, external contour of solid lesions, presence of papillary inside cystic lesions, and fluid echogenicity (к: 0.81–1.00). Substantial agreement in solid components, acoustic shadow, vascularity and O-RADS categories (к: 0.61–0.80). Consistency in classifying classic benign lesions in the O-RADS category was only moderate (к = 0.535). No significant difference in diagnostic performance between them using O-RADS (P = 0.1211). Conclusion: There was good agreement between senior and junior sonologists in the interpretation of the O-RADS lexicon and in the classification of O-RADS, except for a moderate agreement in the interpretation and classification of classic benign lesions. FG-06 is a microbial consortium screened from activated sludge of coking wastewater treatment plant, which has excellent heterotrophic nitrification-aerobic denitrification ability. The aim of the study is to evaluate the possible factors affecting its heterotrophic nitrification performance and the feasibility of its application in the treatment of coking wastewater in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR). Results indicate the consortium could grow and effectively remove ammonium when the salt concentration was below 50 g/L. In the range of pH 5.0–10.0, more than 97% NH4+-N was removed by the consortium. Adding 1000 mg/L phenol in the basal medium (BM) had no significant effect on its nitrification ability. However, when phenol was used as the sole carbon source, the removal efficiency of phenol and ammonium decreased with the increase of phenol concentration in the case of 1% inoculum dose, which was improved by increasing the inoculum size. The removal efficiency of phenol, NH4+-N and COD reached 99.63%, 98.41%, and 83.69% when 3% of the consortium was inoculated in actual coking wastewater in the batch test. Bioaugmentation experiment shows that the consortium could effectively improve the simultaneous removal performance of carbon and ammonium in the SBR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to validate the performance of the Ovarian-Adnexal Reporting and Data Systems (O-RADS) series models proposed by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in the preoperative diagnosis of adnexal masses (AMs). Two experienced sonologists examined 218 patients with AMs and gave the assessment results after the examination. Pathological findings were used as a reference standard. Of the 218 lesions, 166 were benign and 52 were malignant. Based on the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, we defined a malignant lesion as O-RADS > 3 (i.e., lesions in O-RADS categories 4 and 5 were malignant). The area under the curve (AUC) of O-RADS (v2022) was 0.970 (95% CI 0.938–0.988), which wasn't statistically significantly different from the O-RADS (v1) combined Simple Rules Risk (SRR) assessment model with the largest AUC of 0.976 (95% CI 0.946–0.992) (p = 0.1534), but was significantly higher than the O-RADS (v1) (AUC = 0.959, p = 0.0133) and subjective assessment (AUC = 0.918, p = 0.0255). The O-RADS series models have good diagnostic performance for AMs. Where, O-RADS (v2022) has higher accuracy and specificity than O-RADS (v1). Variations in the hydraulic and mechanical behaviour of soils caused by rainfall infiltration are major causes of slope failure. In previous studies, hydraulic hysteresis was commonly ignored to simplify seepage analysis, but this can cause an inaccurate representation of the hydromechanical behaviour of soils and the stability of the associated slopes. In the present study, the effects of hysteretic soil water characteristic curves (SWCC) on the hydromechanical behaviour and slope stability associated with rainfall were assessed, and the results were compared with those obtained using the non-hysteretic SWCC. Hysteresis associated with the capillary and air entrapment effects was considered, and these were incorporated into the analysis of the hydromechanical framework. The hydraulic response and slope stability were analyzed using numerical modelling. Effects of the hydraulic hysteresis on the hydromechanical behaviour within the slope under transient rainfall conditions were then explored. The infiltration fluxes linked to the non-hysteresis and hysteresis conditions differ, impacting the water flow regime and slope stability. Hysteresis involving higher air entrapment shortens the failure time compared to the non-hysteresis condition. The present study demonstrates that hydraulic hysteresis involving air entrapment is important for an adequate assessment of the hydromechanical response of silty soil and the stability of the associated slope. Two-dimensional (2D) tribotronic devices have been successfully involved in electromechanical modulation for channel conductance and applied in intelligent sensing system, touch screen, and logic gates. Ambipolar transistors and corresponding complementary inverters based on one type of semiconductors are highly promising due to the facile fabrication process and readily tunable polarity. Here, we demonstrate an ambipolar tribotronic transistor of molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe2), which shows typical ambipolar transport properties modulated by triboelectric potential. It is comprised of a MoTe2 transistor and a lateral sliding triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). The induced triboelectric potential by Maxwell's displacement current (a driving force for TENG) can readily modulate the transport properties of both electrons and holes in MoTe2 channel and effectively drive the transistor. High performance tribotronic properties have been achieved, including low cutoff current below 1 pA·µm−1 and high current on/off ratio of ∼ 103 for holes and electrons dominated transports. The working mechanism on how to achieve tribotronic ambipolarity is discussed in detail. A complementary tribotronic inverter based on single flake of MoTe2 is also demonstrated with low power consumption and high stability. This work presents an active approach to efficiently modulate semiconductor devices and logic circuits based on 2D materials through external mechanical signal, which has great potential in human–machine interaction, intelligent sensor, and other wearable devices. Using stretchable nanogenerators to obtain disordered mechanical energy from the environment is an ideal way to realize wearable power supply equipment and self-power electronic devices, and alleviate the energy crisis. It is of great significance to integrate the stretchability into the nanogenerator, which can fit the complex shape of the target object better and is well suitable for wearable electronics. When applied to the human body, it can directly harvest human body mechanical energy to power wearable electronic devices and get rid of the trouble of charging. This paper systematically reviewed nanogenerators in stretchability, focusing on stretchable triboelectric nanogenerators, stretchable piezoelectric nanogenerators, and stretchable hybrid nanogenerators. Their physical mechanism, material selection, structure design, and output performance are discussed in detail. It is concluded that the fabrication methods of various devices can be broadly categorized into the two most important device types, namely fiber-like and planar. A detailed analysis of representative work and the latest progress in the past decade is performed. It is most important that excellent stretchability and high-power output are the key point to realize application value of stretchable nanogenerators. The dead zone in ultrasonic time-of-flight diffraction (TOFD) restricts the quantitation of near-surface defects. Alternative TOFD techniques introduce other tip-diffracted/scattered waves with longer propagation times to implement defect detection, but the applicability is influenced due to ignoring the change of acoustic path of the diffracted shear wave in wedge. In this paper, the mode-converted wave (MCW) method is exemplified to analyze the propagation path of diffracted shear wave and the change of the received point in wedge. On this basis, the corrected MCW method is proposed by establishing the relationship between the propagation time of MCW and defect depth according to Fermat's principle. The simulation and experiments show that the depth of near-surface dead zone is reduced by 60% with the corrected MCW method. The positioning errors of the defects in the aluminum alloy sample with a thickness of 20.0 mm are no more than 0.15 mm by using the TOFD probes with 10 MHz center frequency and 40 mm probe center spacing (PCS) and the 60° wedges. Compared to the conventional MCW method, the corrected method widens the range of applicable TOFD signals in B-scan images and reduces the measurement errors of defect depths to within 3.5% under ideal conditions. Purpose: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive disease with poor outcomes. TNBC lacks effective targeted treatments, and the development of drug resistance limits the effectiveness of chemotherapy. It is crucial to identify new drugs that can enhance the efficacy of traditional chemotherapy to reduce drug resistance and side effects. Methods: TNBC cell lines, MDA-MB-231 and Hs 578T, and a normal cell line, MCF-10 A, were included in this study. The cells were treated with gallium maltolate (GaM), and their transcriptome was analyzed. Ferroptosis and nucleolar stress markers were detected by qPCR, western blotting, fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry. The impairment of ribosome synthesis was evaluated by northern blotting and sucrose gradients. Results: GaM triggered cell death via apoptosis and ferroptosis. In addition, GaM impaired translation and activated nucleolar stress. Cisplatin (DDP) is a chemotherapeutic agent for advanced breast cancer. While single treatment with GaM or DDP at low concentrations did not impact cell growth, co-administration enhanced cell death in TNBC but not in normal breast cells. The enhancement of ferroptosis and nucleolar stress could be observed in TNBC cell lines after co-treatment. Conclusions: These results suggest that GaM synergizes with cisplatin via activation of nucleolar stress and ferroptosis in human breast carcinoma cells. GaM is marginally toxic to normal cells but impairs the growth of TNBC cell lines. Thus, GaM has the potential to be used as a therapeutic agent against TNBC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to examine the influence of emotional media information on information-processing mechanisms in the current post-truth era. A cognitive conflict monitoring and evaluation (CCME) model was proposed to explore news audiences' attention and implicit attitudes. The study had a 2 (information type, emotional vs. neutral) × 2 (condition, compatible vs. incompatible) × 3 (electrode position: Fz vs. Cz vs. Pz) design, and an implicit association test (IAT) was administered, with event-related potential (ERP) data collected. The results revealed that emotional information evoked different information-processing mechanisms than neutral information. First, in the early conflict-monitoring stage, emotional information altered arousal, and more attentional resources were allocated to semantic processing. Second, in the late evaluation stage, the lack of attentional resources (due to prior allocation) reduced the late-stage evaluation of the target stimuli by participants. Thus, in this post-truth era, attentional resources may be exhausted by processing emotional information in unnecessary media cues irrelevant to facts, inducing early cognitive conflict and prolonged late-stage evaluation of news articles. Glasshouse plants are species that trap warmth via specialized morphology and physiology, mimicking a human glasshouse. In the Himalayan alpine region, the highly specialized glasshouse morphology has independently evolved in distinct lineages to adapt to intensive UV radiation and low temperature. Here we demonstrate that the glasshouse structure – specialized cauline leaves – is highly effective in absorbing UV light but transmitting visible and infrared light, creating an optimal microclimate for the development of reproductive organs. We reveal that this glasshouse syndrome has evolved at least three times independently in the rhubarb genus Rheum. We report the genome sequence of the flagship glasshouse plant Rheum nobile and identify key genetic network modules in association with the morphological transition to specialized glasshouse leaves, including active secondary cell wall biogenesis, upregulated cuticular cutin biosynthesis, and suppression of photosynthesis and terpenoid biosynthesis. The distinct cell wall organization and cuticle development might be important for the specialized optical property of glasshouse leaves. We also find that the expansion of LTRs has likely played an important role in noble rhubarb adaptation to high elevation environments. Our study will enable additional comparative analyses to identify the genetic basis underlying the convergent occurrence of glasshouse syndrome. A high-quality genome assembly and phylogenetic analysis for the glasshouse plant, Rheum nobile, shed light on its evolutionary history and ability to adapt to intensive UV radiation in a low-temperature, alpine environment. Exploring high-performance energy storage dielectric ceramics for pulse power applications is paramount concern for a multitude of researchers. In this work, a (1 – x)K0.5Na0.5NbO3-xBi0.5La0.5(Zn0.5Sn0.5)O3 ((1–x)KNN-xBLZS) lead-free relaxor ceramic was successfully synthesized by a conventional solid-reaction method. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectra confirm the perovskite structure of the ceramics. With the addition of BLZS, the crystal growth is suppressed, the ceramic resistivity increases, and the relaxation properties of ceramics are enhanced. By optimizing the composition to x = 0.12, we achieved a significant ΔP of 12.8 μC/cm2, a Pmax of 14.6 μC/cm2, and a Pr of 1.8 μC/cm2. The resulting Wrec reached 0.84 J/cm3, accompanied by an outstanding efficiency (η) of 76%, superior frequency reliability, and robust thermal stability. Owing to these exceptional properties, the 0.88 KNN-0.12 BLZS ceramic demonstrates great potential for pulse power applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The transmission spectrum and optical properties of the anisotropic chiral multilayered structure containing a defect layer made of topological insulator (TI) are investigated. We present the transfer matrix formalism to describe the propagation of the electromagnetic wave through the structure and calculate the transmittance, polarization conversion rate and spatial lateral shifts. We find that there are double defect modes at the center of bandgap of the transmission spectrum for the TI defect with parallel magnetization. The axial electromagnetic response of the uniaxial chiral medium is proved to be dominantly involved in the influence of the chirality on the defect modes and polarization conversion. For the spatial lateral shift of the structure, there are double enhancement peaks that coincide with the double peaks of the topological defect modes, and the process of variation of the lateral shift enhancement peaks with the angle of incidence is shown. The special feature of transmission behavior and lateral shift in the proposed structure is a manifestation of topological magnetoelectric effect manipulated by the anisotropic chirality, and it offers possibilities for practical application in designing related devices. Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a severe globally distributed liver disease that could occur at any age. Human menstrual blood-derived stem cells (MenSCs) have shown therapeutic effect in acute lung injury and liver failure. However, their role in the curative effect of AIH remains unclear. Here, a classic AIH mouse model was constructed through intravenous injection with concanavalin A (Con A). MenSCs were intravenously injected while Con A injection in the treatment groups. The results showed that the mortality by Con A injection was significantly decreased by MenSCs treatment and liver function tests and histological analysis were also ameliorated. The results of phosphoproteomic analysis and RNA-seq revealed that MenSCs improved AIH, mainly by apoptosis and c-Jun N-terminal kinase/mitogen-activated protein signaling pathways. Apoptosis analysis demonstrated that the protein expression of cleaved caspase 3 was increased by Con A injection and reduced by MenSCs transplantation, consistent with the TUNEL staining results. An AML12 co-culture system and JNK inhibitor (SP600125) were used to verify the JNK/MAPK and apoptosis signaling pathways. These findings suggested that MenSCs could be a promising strategy for AIH. Given the complexity of tumorigenesis, numerous studies have also shown that excessive exposure to heavy metals increases the risk of cancers and disrupts the secretion of sex hormones. However, the specific effects of heavy metals on cancers remain to be proven. To confirm the association between heavy metals and pan-cancer sex hormone levels among adults, 94,337 individuals from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were assessed. We examined the associations between pan-cancers associated with sex hormones (ovarian, testicular, breast, and prostate cancers) and heavy metals in blood/urine. The methods (the WQS (weighted quantile sums) and SVYGLM (survey generalized linear model) regressions) were used to evaluate the association between sex hormone-related cancers and each metal category by incorporating covariates. To evaluate the overall effect of heavy metals and detect the dose–response relationship between the prevalence of pan-cancers associated with sex hormones and heavy metals, RCS (restricted cubic splines) were applied. Environmental exposure to heavy metals may be associated with pan-cancers associated with sex hormones in adults in the USA. Prostate cancer was inversely associated with blood cadmium while positively associated with blood lead, urinary tin, and thallium. Breast cancer was inversely associated with blood lead. Ovarian cancer was positively associated with blood cadmium. We also found a non-linear dose–response relationship between pan-cancers associated with sex hormones and heavy metals, which was non-parametric, using RCS models. The OR for breast cancer decreased along with the increase in lead concentration under approximately 20 µg/dl, while the OR for prostate cancer increased between urine thallium levels of approximately 0.17–1.1 ng/ml. Pan-cancers associated with sex hormones are associated with exposure to heavy metals. The semitauonic B c − → J / ψ τ − ν ¯ τ decay provides an ideal and clean mode to scrutinize possible new physics effects in b → c τ − ν ¯ τ transitions as indicated by the current data on R(D(*)) anomalies. In this work, we use the spin density matrix method to obtain the maximum information on the underlying physics of B c − → J / ψ τ − ν ¯ τ decay with both polarized τ lepton and J/ψ meson. Their subsequent decays, with J/ψ → μ+μ− as well as τ− → π−ντ, τ− → ρ−ντ and τ − → ℓ − ν ¯ ℓ ν τ , are exploited to extract the energy and angular distributions of the charged final-state particles in the processes. Starting with the most general effective Hamiltonian relevant for the b → c τ − ν ¯ τ transitions, including all possible Lorentz structures of the dimension-six operators with both left- and right-handed neutrinos, we first derive the five-fold differential decay rate in terms of the visible final-state kinematics. From this distribution, we then construct in total 34 normalized observables, among which nine refer to the CP-violating triple product asymmetries that vanish within the Standard Model. We also construct five new observables based on the combinations of these normalized observables that can only be attributed to the right-handed neutrinos. On the other hand, considering the low statistics of the fully differential distribution, we introduce some integrated observables with only one kinematic variable left, which are more promising to be measured due to the largely increased statistics. The sensitivities of all these observables to the different new physics scenarios are investigated in detail. Finally, assuming an ideal circumstance, we give an estimate of the statistical uncertainties of the nine CP-conserving observables at LHCb and found that τ− → π−ντ has the highest analyzing power among the three τ decay channels. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide. Studies have reported minimal birth cohort effects on the incidence rates of breast cancer in Western countries but have reported notable birth cohort effects in some Asian countries. The risks of breast cancer may also vary within a country. In the present study, we abstracted female invasive breast cancer data from the Taiwan Cancer Registry for the period 1997–2016. We used the age–period–cohort model to compare birth cohort effects on breast cancer incidence rates between urban and rural regions in Taiwan. We identified a notable urban–rural disparity in birth cohort effects on breast cancer incidence rates in women in Taiwan. The incidence rates in the urban regions were higher than those in the rural regions across all cohorts. However, the incidence rates rose faster in the rural regions than in the urban regions across the cohorts. The risks of breast cancer observed for women born in 1992 were approximately 22 and 11 times than those observed for women born in 1917 in rural and urban regions, respectively. The observed gap in breast cancer incidence rates between the urban and rural regions gradually disappeared across the cohorts. Accordingly, we speculate that urbanization and westernization in Taiwan may be the drivers of female breast cancer incidence rates across birth cohorts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is important to cultivate dispositions of 21st-century skills (D21S: critical thinking, complex problem solving, creativity, communication, and collaboration) in project-based science, technology, engineering, and mathematics learning (STEM-PjBL). Previous research has seldom adopted the person-oriented approach to examine STEM-PjBL program effectiveness, and knowledge regarding group differences is still lacking. To fill this gap, a person-oriented analysis was used to form groupings of students based on D21S. Three latent profiles (high-, medium-, and low-D21S) of students were identified in 6 elementary schools, and the transition probabilities were estimated for 2 class types (treatment vs. comparison) across 1 semester. Most of the students (63.4%) showed stable D21S profiles over 1 semester; however, some students (17.6%) exhibited improvement, and some (18.9%) showed declination. Additionally, the STEM-PjBL programs presented positive effects on the growth of D21S. This study further found that the D21S transitional types (i.e. declined, stable, and improved) could predict students' motivation (perceived STEM domain content mastery, self-efficacy, and task value), showing that a declined D21S also decreased academic motivation. The findings suggest that students who decline in D21S should receive attention from teachers because their perceived academic performance, competence beliefs, and values in STEM also decrease simultaneously. Weeping forsythia is a wide-spread shrub in China with important ornamental, medicinal and ecological values. It is widely distributed in China's warm temperate zone. In plants, WRKY transcription factors play important regulatory roles in seed germination, flower development, fruit ripening and coloring, and biotic and abiotic stress response. To date, WRKY transcription factors have not been systematically studied in weeping forsythia. In this study, we identified 79 WRKY genes in weeping forsythia and classified them according to their naming rules in Arabidopsis thaliana. Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that, except for IIe subfamily, whose clustering was inconsistent with A. thaliana clustering, other subfamily clustering groups were consistent. Cis-element analysis showed that WRKY genes related to pathogen resistance in weeping forsythia might be related to methyl jasmonate and salicylic acid-mediated signaling pathways. Combining cis-element and expression pattern analyses of WRKY genes showed that more than half of WRKY genes were involved in light-dependent development and morphogenesis in different tissues. The gene expression results showed that 13 WRKY genes were involved in drought response, most of which might be related to the abscisic acid signaling pathway, and a few of which might be regulated by MYB transcription factors. The gene expression results under cold stress showed that 17 WRKY genes were involved in low temperature response, and 9 of them had low temperature responsiveness cis-elements. Aims: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a major healthcare challenge. We developed and internally and externally validated a risk prediction model of DN by integrating clinical factors and SNPs from genes of multiple CKD-related pathways in the Han Chinese population. Materials and methods: A total of 1526 patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly allocated into derivation (n = 1019) or validation (n = 507) sets. External validation was performed with 3899 participants from the Taiwan Biobank. We selected 66 SNPs identified from literature review for building our weighted genetic risk score (wGRS). The steps for prediction model development integrating clinical and genetic information were based on the Framingham Heart Study. Results: The AUROC (95% CI) for this DN prediction model with combined clinical factors and wGRS was 0.81 (0.78, 0.84) in the derivation set. Furthermore, by directly using the information of these 66 SNPs, our final prediction model had AUROC values of 0.85 (0.82, 0.87), 0.89 (0.86, 0.91), and 0.77 (0.74, 0.80) in the derivation, internal validation, and external validation sets, respectively. Under the combined model, the results with a cutoff point of 30% showed 70.91% sensitivity, 67.84% specificity, 51.54% positive predictive value, and 82.86% negative predictive value. Conclusions: We developed and internally and externally validated a model with clinical factors and SNPs from genes of multiple CKD-related pathways to predict DN in Taiwan. This model can be used in clinical risk management practice as a screening tool to identify persons who are genetically predisposed to DN for early intervention and prevention. A new trivalent europium activated pure phase red-emitting Bi4Sr3Te5O19 phosphor was first synthesized by high-temperature solid-state at 840 °C. The crystal structure, surface morphology, optical characterizations including room and high-temperature photoluminescence, the corresponding color coordinates, and emission decay profiles were carried out and determined for Eu3+-doped Bi4Sr3Te5O19 compounds. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns indicated the Bi4Sr3Te5O19 phosphors crystallized as a rhombohedral system. Bi4Sr3Te5O19:Eu3+ phosphors can be able to be efficiently excited by 395 and 464 nm. The intense red emission peak at 616 nm was the typical 5D0→7F2 electric dipole transition of Eu3+ ions. Further, the optimal 30 mol% doping concentration was obtained within Bi4Sr3Te5O19:xEu3+ phosphors. The color purity of Bi4Sr3Te5O19:0.30Eu3+ phosphor is as high as 100%. Through calculating the luminescence intensity on temperature, the thermal stability of phosphor had been well evaluated. The fabricated w-LED had a high color rendering index (CRI) Ra of 86 and an appropriate correlated color temperature (CCT) of 4378 K, and chromaticity coordinates (0.362, 0.351). Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in Taiwan. After Taiwan implemented the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act in 1997, smoking rates declined. However, the incidence rates of lung cancer for both sexes are still increasing, possibly due to risk factors other than smoking. We used age–period–cohort analysis to examine the secular trends of lung cancer incidence rates by histological type in Taiwan. A stabilized kriging method was employed to map these lung cancer incidence rates. Lung adenocarcinoma incidence rates increased, but lung squamous cell carcinoma incidence rates decreased, for both the sexes in recent birth cohorts, particularly in women. In Taiwan, the hotspots of lung adenocarcinoma incidence rates were in the northern, northeastern, and western coastal areas; the incidence rates increased rapidly in the western and southern coastal regions and southern mountainous regions. The high incidence rates of lung squamous cell carcinoma in men were in the southwestern and northeastern coastal areas. The incidence rates rapidly increased in the central and southern coastal and mountainous regions. For both sexes in Taiwan, lung squamous cell carcinoma incidence rates declined from 1997 to 2017, but lung adenocarcinoma increased. The increased incidence rates of lung adenocarcinoma may be related to indoor and outdoor air pollution. Some areas in Taiwan have increasing lung cancer incidence rates, including the northwestern and southern coasts and mountains, and warrant particular attention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
