Aims: Cropland revegetation is an effective measure to curb soil erosion on eroding hillslopes and increase farmers' income at depositional check dams. However, how soil microbial metabolic limitation responds to cropland revegetation in erosion and deposition landscapes remains poorly understood, which has substantial implications for carbon (C) retention and nutrient cycling in the eroding environment. Methods: We sampled 0–2 m soils in cropland and revegetated forest and grassland at upslopes and check dams in the hilly-gully region of the Loess Plateau, China. The activities of soil C-, nitrogen (N)-, and phosphorus (P)-acquiring enzymes were analyzed. The improved enzyme vector model (V-T model) based on balance points was used to quantify microbial metabolic limitations based on ecoenzymatic stoichiometry. Results: Microorganisms suffered from no energy (C) limitation, but the relative microbial C limitation was greater in revegetated forest than in cropland. At upslopes, the revegetated forest was primarily limited by P, while the revegetated grassland and cropland were limited by N, which was indicated by the VTN/P limitation values of 4.35, -2.74, and − 1.87, respectively. Microbial P limitation was greater in deep soils of revegetated forest due to the assimilation of P by the root system. At check dams, land-use change had no significant influence on microbial N/P limitations owing to abundant soil C and nutrients and a wet environment. Conclusion: Concludingly, cropland revegetation had a weaker influence on microbial metabolic limitation at the lower-lying topography, which compensates for the current understanding of resource restrictions on microorganisms at slopes or flat areas. Deep soil organic carbon (SOC) plays an important role in carbon cycling. Precisely predicting deep SOC at the regional scale is crucial for the accurate assessment of carbon sequestration potential in soils but has been challenging for a century. Herein, we developed a depth distribution function-based empirical approach to predict SOC in deep soils at the regional scale. We validated this approach with a dataset from four regions of the world and examined the application of this approach in China's Loess Plateau. We found that among the reported depth distribution functions describing vertical patterns of SOC, the negative exponential function performed best in fitting SOC along the soil profile in various regions. Moreover, the parameters (i.e., Ce and k) of the negative exponential function were linearly correlated to surface SOC (0–20 cm) and the changing rates of SOC within the topsoil (0–40 cm). Based on the above relationships, the empirical equations for predicting the negative exponential parameters are established. The validation results from site-specific and regional dataset showed that combining the negative exponential function and such empirical equations can precisely predict SOC concentration in soils down to 500 cm depth. Our study provides a simple, rapid and accurate method for predicting deep soil SOC at the regional scale, which could simplify the assessment of deep soil SOC in various regions. Human body temperature not only reflects vital signs, but also affects the state of various organs through blood circulation, and even affects lifespan. Here a wireless body temperature detection scheme was presented that the temperature was extracted by investigating the out-of-plane (OP) ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) field of 10.2 nm thick La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMO) film using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technique. Within the range of 34–42 °C, the OP FMR field changes linearly with the increasing or decreasing temperature, and this variation comes from the linear responses of magnetization to the fluctuant temperature. Using this method, a tiny temperature change (< 0.1 °C) of organisms can be detected accurately and sensitively, which shows great potential in body temperature monitoring for humans and mammals. In the current in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer protocol, the 8 blastomeres in the day-3 embryo are selected for transfer because these embryos can produce high rates of blastocyst formation and clinical pregnancy. However, the relationship between the blastomere number in day-2 embryos and the rate of blastocyst formation or clinical pregnancy remains unclear. The purpose of this retrospective study is to explore the relationship between the blastomere number in day-2 embryos and the rate of blastocyst formation or clinical pregnancy. From January 2015 to April 2020, we collected 8126 day-3 embryos (8 blastomeres) from 2282 patients. These embryos were classified into 8 groups (1 blastomere, 2 blastomeres, 3 blastomeres, 4 blastomeres, 5 blastomeres, 6 blastomeres, 7 blastomeres, and 8 blastomeres) based on their blastomeres number on day 2 after insemination. Of these groups, the 4 blastomeres group accounted for the largest proportion (74.44%). The 1 blastomere group accounted for the smallest proportion (0.22%). A total of 3554 day-3 embryos (8 blastomeres) from 1648 patients developed into blastocysts. The rate of blastocyst formation from the 4 blastomeres group was the highest (94.06%). Finally, 800 patients received single day-3 embryos (8 blastomeres) transfer. The rate of clinical pregnancy from 4 blastomeres group was the highest (51.98%). In conclusion, our data provide evidence that the number of blastomeres in day-2 embryos affects the rate of blastocyst formation and clinical pregnancy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mannose induces tumor cell apoptosis and inhibits glucose metabolism by accumulating intracellularly as mannose 6-phosphate while the drug sensitivity of tumors is negatively correlated with mannose phosphate isomerase gene (MPI) expression. In this study, we performed a first attempt to explore the relationship between the targeted gene MPI and immune infiltration and genetic and clinical characteristics of head and neck squamous carcinoma (HNSC) using computational algorithms and bioinformatic analysis, and further to verify the co-inhibition effects of mannose with genotoxicity, immune responses, and microbes dysbiosis in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in vitro and in vivo. Our results found that patients with lower MPI expression had higher survival rate. The enhancement of MPI expression was in response to DNA damage gene, and ATM inhibitor was verified as a potential drug with a synergistic effect with mannose on HSC-3. In the HNSC, infiltrated immunocytes CD8+ T cell and B cell were the significantly reduced risk cells, while IL-22 and IFN-γ showed negative correlation with MPI. Finally, mannose could reverse immunophenotyping caused by antibiotics in mice, resulting in the decrease of CD8+ T cells and increase of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs). In conclusion, the MPI gene showed a significant correlation with immune infiltration and genetic and clinical characteristics of HNSC. The treatment of ATM inhibitor, immune regulating cells of CD8+ T cells and MDSCs, and oral microbiomes in combination with mannose could exhibit co-inhibitory therapeutic effect for OSCC.
