Objectives: The experience of thermal ablation of lung lesions is limited, especially performing the procedure under localisation by cone-beam CT in the hybrid operation room (HOR). Here, we present the experience of microwave ablation (MWA) of lung nodules in the HOR. Methods: We reviewed patients who underwent image-guide percutaneous MWA for lung nodules in the HOR under general anaesthesia between July 2020 and July 2022. The workflow in the HOR including the pre-procedure preparation, anaesthesia consideration, operation methods, and postoperative care was clearly described. Results: Forty lesions in 33 patients who underwent MWA under general anaesthesia (GA) in the HOR were analysed. Twenty-seven patients had a single pulmonary nodule, and the remaining six patients had multiple nodules. The median procedure time was 41.0 min, and the median ablation time per lesion was 6.75 min. The median global operation room time was 115.0 min. The median total dose area product was 14881 μGym2. The median ablation volume was 111.6 cm3. All patients were discharged from the hospital with a median postoperative stay of 1 day. Four patients had pneumothorax, two patients had pleural effusion during the first month of outpatient follow-up, and one patient reported intercostal neuralgia during the 3-month follow-up. Conclusions: Thermal ablation of pulmonary nodules under GA in the HOR can be performed safely and efficiently if we follow the workflow provided. The procedure provides an alternative to managing pulmonary nodules in patients. Neuroinflammation and endothelial cell apoptosis are prominent features of blood–brain barrier (BBB) disruption, which have been described in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and can predict cognitive decline. Recent reports revealed vascular β-amyloid (Aβ) deposits, Muller cell degeneration and microglial dysfunction in the retina of AD patients. However, there has been no in-depth research on the roles of inflammation, retinal endothelial cell apoptosis, and blood-retinal barrier (BRB) damage in AD retinopathy. We found that Raddeanin A (RDA) could improve pathological and cognitive deficits in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease by targeting β-amyloidosis, However, the effects of RDA on AD retinal function require further study. To clarify whether RDA inhibits inflammation and apoptosis and thus improves BRB function in AD-related retinopathy. In vitro we used Aβ-treated HRECs and MIO-M1 cells, and in vivo we used 3×Tg-AD mice to investigate the effect of RDA on BRB in AD-related retinopathy. We found that RDA could improve BRB function in AD-related retinopathy by inhibiting NLRP3-mediated inflammation and suppressing Wnt/β-catenin pathway-mediated apoptosis, which is expected to improve the pathological changes in AD-related retinopathy and the quality of life of AD patients. The effects of surf zone eddy generated by alongshore currents on the deformation and transport of dye are still poorly understood, and related tracer release experiments are lacking. Therefore, a tracer release laboratory experiment was conducted under monochromatic, unidirectional incident waves with a large incident angle (30°) on a plane beach with a 1:100 slope in a large wave basin. A charge-coupled device suspended above the basin recorded the dye patch image. The evolution of eddy dye patch was observed and the transport and diffusion were analyzed based on the collected images. Subsequently, a linear instability numerical model was adopted to calculate the perturbation velocity field at the initial stage. The observation and image processing results show that surf zone eddy patches occurred and were separated from the original dye patches. Our numerical analysis results demonstrate that the structure of the perturbation velocity field is consistent with the experimental observations, and that the ejection of eddy patches shoreward or offshore may be ascribed to the double vortex. The impact of weather variability and air pollutants on tuberculosis (TB) has been a research hotspot. Previous studies have mostly been limited to a certain area or with a small sample size of cases, and multi-scale systematic studies are lacking. In this study, 14,816,329 TB cases were collected from 31 provinces in China between 2004 and 2018 to estimate the association between TB risk and meteorological factors and air pollutants using a two-stage time-series analysis. The impact and lagged time of meteorological factors and air pollutants on TB risk varied greatly in different provinces and regions. Overall cumulative exposure–response summary associations across 31 provinces suggested that high monthly mean relative humidity (RH) (66.8–82.4%, percentile56-100 (P56–100)), rainfall (316.5–331.1 mm, P96–100), PM2.5 exposure concentration (93.3–145.0 μg/m3, P58–100), and low monthly mean wind speed (1.6–2.1 m/s, P0–38) increased the risk of TB incidence, with a relative risk (RR) of 1.10 (95% CI: 1.04–1.16), 1.10 (95% CI: 1.03–1.16), 2.08 (95% CI: 1.18–3.65), and 2.06 (95% CI: 1.27–3.33), and attributable risk percent (AR%) of 9%, 9%, 52%, and 51%, respectively. Conversely, high monthly average wind speed (2.3–2.9 m/s, P54–100) and mean temperature (20.2–25.3 °C, P79–96), and low monthly average rainfall (2.4–25.2 mm, P0–7) and concentration of SO2 (8.1–21.2 μg/m3, P0-16) exposure decreased the risk of TB incidence, with an overall cumulative RR of 0.92 (95% CI: 0.87–0.98), 0.74 (95% CI: 0.59–0.94), 0.87 (95% CI: 0.79–0.95), and 0.72 (95% CI: 0.56–0.93), respectively. Introduction: Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination has been reported to be protective against latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in the general population. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of BCG vaccination against LTBI in adult patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and renal transplants. Methods: Patients aged ≥ 20 years with ESRD who received hemodialysis (HD), peritoneal dialysis (PD) or kidney transplant were enrolled from January 2012 to December 2019 at a medical center and a regional hemodialysis center. Patients with active tuberculosis (TB), previously treated TB, active immunosuppressant therapy or human immunodeficiency virus infection were excluded. LTBI status was determined by QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-tube (QFT-GIT). Results: After the exclusion of indeterminate results of QFT-GIT, 517 participants were enrolled and 97 (18.8%) were identified as having LTBI. Participants with LTBI were older (55.1 ± 11.4 vs. 48.5 ± 14.6 years, p < 0.001) and had a significantly higher proportion receiving HD than those without LTBI (70.1% vs. 56.7%, p = 0.001). The percentage with BCG scars was higher in the non-LTBI group than in the LTBI group (94.8% vs. 81.4%, p < 0.001), whereas the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) (≥ 2.68) was significantly higher in the LTBI group (62.8% vs. 45.5%, p = 0.02). By multivariate logistic regression analysis, presence of BCG scar and high NLR were independent protective factors against LTBI [adjusted OR: 0.19 (0.063–0.58, p = 0.001) and 0.50 (0.28–0.89, p = 0.02)]. Conclusion: The prevalence of LTBI was as high as 18.8% in patients with end-stage kidney disease or kidney transplant. Background: Timely differentiating between pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease (NTM-LD), which are radiographically similar, is important because infectiousness and treatment differ. This study aimed to evaluate whether artificial intelligence could distinguish between TB or NTM-LD patients by chest X-rays (CXRs) from suspects of mycobacterial lung disease. Methods: A total of 1500 CXRs, including 500 each from patients with pulmonary TB, NTM-LD, and patients with clinical suspicion but negative mycobacterial culture (Imitator) from two hospitals, were retrospectively collected and evaluated in this study. We developed a deep neural network (DNN) and evaluated model performance using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUC) in both internal and external test sets. Furthermore, we conducted a reader study and tested our model under three scenarios of different mycobacteria prevalence. Results: Among the internal and external test sets, the AUCs of our DNN model were 0.83 ± 0.005 and 0.76 ± 0.006 for pulmonary TB, 0.86 ± 0.006 and 0.64 ± 0.017 for NTM-LD, and 0.77 ± 0.007 and 0.74 ± 0.005 for Imitator. The DNN model showed higher performance on the internal test set in classification accuracy (66.5 ± 2.5%) than senior (50.8 ± 3.0%, p < 0.001) and junior pulmonologists (47.5 ± 2.8%, p < 0.001). Among different prevalence scenarios, the DNN model has stable performance in terms of AUC to detect TB and mycobacterial lung disease. Conclusion: DNN model had satisfactory performance and a higher accuracy than pulmonologists on classifying patients with presumptive mycobacterial lung diseases. Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is occasionally detected in patients receiving anti-tuberculosis (TB) treatment. This prospective cohort study is the first to investigate the incidence, risk factors, and renal outcomes of AKI during anti-TB treatment. Methods: This study was conducted from January 1, 2016, to May 31, 2018. Patients with a new diagnosis of TB and on standard anti-TB treatment were enrolled, and the patients received regular laboratory monitoring. AKI was defined according to the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcome (KDIGO) criteria. Urinalysis, renal ultrasonography, blood erythrocyte morphology, and fractional excretion of sodium were performed at AKI onset. The TB treatment regimen was adjusted by the primary physician if necessary. Risk factors for AKI were identified through Cox regression. Results: In total, 106 patients were recruited (mean age 52.6 years, 71.7% men). Eleven (10.3%) patients experienced AKI. Increased serum uric acid and hemoglobin levels were noted at AKI onset. All patients with AKI achieved renal recovery and completed anti-TB treatment containing rifampin. Age [hazard ratio (HR) 1.06 (1.02–1.11)], a higher baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR; HR 1.04 (1.02–1.06)], and a blood eosinophil count > 350 (109/L) [HR 10.99 (2.28–53.02)] were associated with a higher risk of AKI during TB treatment. Conclusion: Regular pharmacovigilant monitoring revealed an incidence of renal impairment during anti-TB treatment that was higher than expected. AKI was more common in older patients with a higher eGFR and blood eosinophil count. Purpose: This study aimed to understand the cough characteristics and health journeys among community-based chronic cough (CC) patients, and their characteristics associated with healthcare visits. Methods: A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted in 2020, using the South Korea and Taiwan National Health and Wellness Survey (NHWS) and CC surveys. Patients with current CC were defined by daily coughing for > 8 weeks in the past 12 months and currently coughing at the time of survey. The survey items pertained to CC patients' treatment journey and cough characteristics. Results: Patients with current CC in South Korea and Taiwan, respectively, had cough duration for 3.45 ± 5.13 years and 5.75 ± 7.28 years and cough severity visual analogue scale (VAS) scores of 4.50 ± 2.15 and 4.46 ± 1.92 out of 0–10 scale, with 70.3% and 57.9% having spoken with a physician about cough. Compared to CC patients who had not visited healthcare professionals for cough, those who visited reported more severe cough (VAS: 3.89 ± 1.71 vs. 4.6 ± 2.02; p = 0.009), worse cough-specific quality of life (Leicester Cough Questionnaire: 16.20 ± 3.23 vs.13.45 ± 2.68, p < 0.001), greater symptom severity (Hull Airway Reflux Questionnaire: 16.73 ± 15.16 vs. 24.57 ± 13.38; p < 0.001), and more urinary incontinence (13.6 vs. 26.5%, p = 0.027). More than 50% of patients perceived cough medication(s) as not or a little useful and 25% felt their physicians did not well understand how CC impacts their life. Conclusion: Cough is frequently severe and persistent among community-based CC patients. They experience several issues in their health journey, including treatment ineffectiveness and physician's understanding. Further efforts are warranted to reduce CC burden in the community. The Ying-Qiong Basin is located on the northwestern margin of the South China Sea and at the junction of the South China Block and the Indochina Block. It is characterized by complex geological structures. The existing seismic data in the study area is sparse due to the lack of earthquake activities. Because of the limited source energy and poor coverage of seismic data, the knowledge of deep structures in the area, including the spatial distribution of deep faults, is incomplete. Contrarily, satellite gravity data cover the entire study area and can reveal the spatial distribution of faults. Based on the wavelet multi-scale decomposition method, the Bouguer gravity field in the Ying-Qiong Basin was decomposed and reconstructed to obtain the detailed images of the first- to sixth-order gravitational fields. By incorporating the known geological features, the gravitational field responses of the main faults in the Ying-Qiong Basin were identified in the detailed fields, and the power spectrum analysis yielded the depths of 1.4, 8, 15, 26.5, and 39 km for the average burial depths of the bottom surfaces from the first- to fifth-order detailed fields, respectively. The four main faults in the Yinggehai Basin all have a large active depth range: fault A (No.1) is between 5 and 39 km, fault B is between 26.5 and 39 km, and faults C and D are between 15 and 39 km. Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs), including chronic disease such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and multiple sclerosis, and acute diseases like traumatic brain injury and ischemic stroke are characterized by progressive degeneration, brain tissue damage and loss of neurons, accompanied by behavioral and cognitive dysfunctions. So far, there are no complete cures for NDs; thus, early and timely diagnoses are essential and beneficial to patients' treatment. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become one of the advanced medical imaging techniques widely used in the clinical examination of NDs due to its non-invasive diagnostic value. In this review, research published in English in current decade from PubMed electronic database on the use of MRI to detect specific biomarkers of NDs was collected, summarized, and discussed, which provides valuable suggestions for the early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of NDs in the clinic. Three kinds of (Ti, M)(C1−x, Nx) (M = Ta, Nb, W) quaternary solid-solution powders with various nitrogen contents were synthesized by carbothermal reduction–nitridation (CRN) process. Effect of nitrogen content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of WC–(Ti, M)(C1−x, Nx)–Co cemented carbides fabricated by sinter-hot isostatic pressing (HIP) were systematically investigated in this paper. The results show that the nitrogen content in the carbonitride raw powders strongly influences the morphology, the grain size and the compositions of the cemented carbides. All the cemented carbides with different nitrogen contents have a similar microstructural appearance: weak core–rim structure consisting of solid-solution phase embedded in WC–Co system. It is also observed that the carbonitride solid solution could somewhat reduce the WC grain growth, and the effectiveness of refining and the rim thickness are sensitively related to the nitrogen content of (Ti, M)(C1−x, Nx) solid solutions. In addition, with an increase in the nitrogen content, mechanical properties of these hard metals are enhanced, which were discussed in terms of the constituent, the microstructure and the solution behavior of the carbonitride solid solutions. To establish a rapid and specific antigen detection method for porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) were produced against the PCV2 epidemic strains and a red latex microsphere immunochromatographic strip was established. A total of eight anti-PCV2b and four anti-PCV2d mAbs were produced, and seven mAbs were confirmed to react with PCV2a, PCV2b, and PCV2d strains using an immunoperoxidase monolayer assay. The results of micro-neutralization tests showed that the mAbs 2C8, 9H4, 10G7, 7B9, and 7C7 had good neutralizing activity, whereas the neutralizing activity of the mAbs 4B3, 4C9, 6H9, and 7E2 was lower than 50%. Three mAbs, 4B3, 7C7, and 9H4, and PCV2 pAb were selected for the establishment of a red latex microsphere immunochromatographic strip, and the combination of mAb 7C7 labeled with red latex microspheres and mAb 9H4 exhibited the greatest detection ability. The immunochromatographic strip had minimum detection limits of 102.5 TCID50/0.1 ml, 100.7 TCID50/0.1 ml, and 101.5 TCID50/0.1 ml for PCV2a/CL, PCV2b/MDJ, and PCV2d/LNHC, respectively. Furthermore, no cross-reactivity was found for African swine fever virus, classical swine fever virus, porcine respiratory and reproductive syndrome virus, porcine parvovirus, porcine pseudorabies virus, porcine circovirus type 1, transmissible gastroenteritis virus, porcine epidemic diarrhea virus, porcine rotavirus, or porcine deltacoronavirus using the immunochromatographic strip. Using PCR as a reference standard, the detection sensitivity, specificity, and overall coincidence rate of the immunochromatographic strip were 81.13%, 100%, and 90.00%. Additionally, the detection ability of the immunochromatographic strip was correlated with that of virus titration. The immunochromatographic strip was used to detect 183 clinical disease samples, and the average positive detection rate was 22.95%. In summary, this method has good sensitivity and specificity and is simple, convenient, and quick to operate. It has high application value for on-site diagnosis of PCV2 and virus quantification. Advanced bronchoscopic lung volume reduction treatment (BLVR) is now a routine care option for treating patients with severe emphysema. Patterns of low attenuation clusters indicating emphysema and functional small airway disease (fSAD) on paired CT, which may provide additional insights to the target selection of the segmental or subsegmental lobe of the treatments, require further investigation. The low attenuation clusters (LACS) were segmented to identify the scalar and spatial distribution of the lung destructions, in terms of 10 fractions scales of low attenuation density (LAD) located in upper lobes and lower lobes. The LACs of functional small airway disease (fSAD) were delineated by applying the technique of parametric response map (PRM) on the co-registered CT image data. Both emphysematous LACs of inspiratory CT and fSAD LACs on expiratory CT were used to derive the coefficients of the predictive model for estimating the airflow limitation. The voxel-wise severity is then predicted using the regional LACs on the co-registered CT to indicate the functional localization, namely, the bullous parametric response map (BPRM). A total of 100 subjects, 88 patients with mild to very severe COPD and 12 control participants with normal lung functions (FEV1/FVC % > 70%), were evaluated. Pearson's correlations between FEV1/FVC% and LAV%HU-950 of severe emphysema are − 0.55 comparing to − 0.67 and − 0.62 of LAV%HU-856 of air-trapping and LAV%fSAD respectively. Pearson's correlation between FEV1/FVC% and FEV1/FVC% predicted by the proposed model using LAD% of HU-950 and fSAD on BPRM is 0.82 (p < 0.01). The result of the Bullous Parametric Response Map (BPRM) is capable of identifying the less functional area of the lung, where the BLVR treatment is aimed at removing from a hyperinflated area of emphysematous regions. A series of direct shear tests on specimens with artificial joints were performed to investigate the rate-dependent characteristics of damage and roughness degradation of three-dimensional joint surfaces under different normal stresses and shear velocities. A novel method was proposed to identify and extract the damaged area of joint surfaces based on the combination of the three-dimensional scanning technology and the color image segmentation method. Based on the proposed method, two main failure modes were identified on the joint surface, including asperity wear and debris backfilling. By controlling different shear displacements and shear velocities, the rate-dependent damage evolution of the joint surface during shearing was revealed. Four damage states are defined to better understand the local damage mechanism of joints. The statistical results indicate that the damage area ratio increases with increasing normal stress and shear velocity. The damage develops more rapidly at a higher shear velocity during progressive shearing. Furthermore, the three-dimensional roughness parameter θ max ∗ / (C + 1) is measured in 36 analysis directions on the sheared joint surfaces to quantitatively describe the asperity degradation. It is observed that the average roughness parameter increases with increasing shear velocity under the same normal stress but decreases with increasing shear displacement. The results in the present study may provide some references for revealing the mechanical behavior and damage state of joints subjected to dynamic loads. Objectives: This study examined the long-term effects of mindfulness integrated with body-mind-spirit (M-BMS) group therapy on depressive symptoms, quality of life (QOL), and meaning in life, and depressive symptoms mediating the effects of mindfulness levels on QOL. Methods: This study used a randomized controlled trial design. A total of 116 participants between 20 and 65 years old with diagnoses of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were randomly assigned to either 2 months of BMS group therapy or 2 months of M-BMS group therapy. They completed outcome measures including the Beck Depression Index-II depression scale, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Core Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire and its lung cancer–specific complementary measure, the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, and the meaning in life questionnaire at several points: baseline (T0), the second month (the end of the intervention) (T1), the fifth month (T2), the eighth month (T3), and the 14th month (T4). Results: Depressive symptoms significantly reduced across the 14-month follow-ups in the M-BMS group, while there was no significant change in depressive scores in the BMS group. The greater improvements in general QOL symptom distress were in favor of the M-BMS group compared with the BMS group. Moreover, the effect of changes in mindfulness on improving general QOL symptom distress was significantly mediated through a decrease of depressive symptoms. Conclusions: Integrating mindfulness skills with BMS empowerment strategies could improve lung cancer patients' symptom distress through mindfulness, effectively regulating depressive symptoms. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common and complex skin disorder, and the 5q22.1 region had been reported to be associated with AD. To confirm the susceptibility gene for AD in the 5q22.1 region by haplotype and targeted capture sequencing. The haplotypes were reconstructed with the genotyping data of four SNPs and six deletions from 3624 Chinese Hans AD patients and 5076 controls. The targeted capture sequencing spanning 5q22.1 region was performed in the selected samples. The gene level enrichment analysis was done using loss of function variants. A total of 62 haplotypes were found, and the H15 haplotype had the strongest association with AD (P = 3.92 × 10−10, OR 0.17, 95% CI 0.09–0.32). However, no co-segregation mutation sites were found in the sequencing analysis within the 16 selected samples, while the enrichment analysis indicated that TMEM232 was significantly associated with AD (P = 7.33 × 10–5, OR 0.33, 95% CI 0.19–0.58). Pulmonary function testing (PFT) allows for quantitative analysis of lung function. However, as a result of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a majority of international medical societies have postponed PFTs in an effort to mitigate disease transmission, complicating the continuity of care in high-risk patients diagnosed with COVID-19 or preexisting lung pathologies. Here, we describe the development of a non-contact wearable pulmonary sensor for pulmonary waveform analysis, pulmonary volume quantification, and crude thoracic imaging using the eddy current (EC) phenomenon. Statistical regression analysis is performed to confirm the predictive validity of the sensor, and all data are continuously and digitally stored with a sampling rate of 6,660 samples/second. Wearable pulmonary function sensors may facilitate rapid point-of-care monitoring for high-risk individuals, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and easily interface with patient hospital records or telehealth services. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common causes of cardiometabolic diseases in overweight individuals. While liver biopsy is the current gold standard to diagnose NAFLD and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive alternative still under clinical trials, the former is invasive and the latter costly. We demonstrate electrical impedance tomography (EIT) as a portable method for detecting fatty infiltrate. We enrolled 19 overweight subjects to undergo liver MRI scans, followed by EIT measurements. The MRI images provided the a priori knowledge of the liver boundary conditions for EIT reconstruction, and the multi-echo MRI data quantified liver proton-density fat fraction (PDFF%) to validate fat infiltrate. Using the EIT electrode belts, we circumferentially injected pairwise current to the upper abdomen, followed by acquiring the resulting surface-voltage to reconstruct the liver conductivity. Pearson's correlation analyses compared EIT conductivity or MRI PDFF with body mass index, age, waist circumference, height, and weight variables. We reveal that the correlation between liver EIT conductivity or MRI PDFF with demographics is statistically insignificant, whereas liver EIT conductivity is inversely correlated with MRI PDFF (R = −0.69, p = 0.003, n = 16). Millions of patients worldwide are implanted with permanent pacemakers for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and conduction disorders. The increased use of these devices has established a growing clinical need to mitigate associated complications. Pacemaker leads, in particular, present the primary risks in most implants. While wireless power transfer holds great promise in eliminating implantable device leads, anatomical constraints limit efficient wireless transmission over the necessary operational range. We thereby developed a transmitter-centered control system for wireless power transfer with sufficient power for continuous cardiac pacing. Device safety was validated using a computational model of the system within an MRI-based anatomical model. The pacer was then fabricated to meet the acute constraints of the anterior cardiac vein (ACV) to enable intravascular deployment while maintaining power efficiency. Our computational model revealed the wireless system to operate at > 50 times below the tissue energy absorption safety criteria. We further demonstrated the capacity for ex vivo pacing of pig hearts at 60 beats per minute (BPM) and in vivo pacing at 120 BPM following pacer deployment in the ACV. This work thus established the capacity for wireless intravascular pacing with the potential to eliminate complications associated with current lead-based deep tissue implants. To date, fishing economies of prehistoric populations of coastal South China have been inadequately studied. This paper presents the results from the first systematic study that documents a subsistence economy from the Neolithic settlement site of Guye (5900–5400 cal BP) in the Pearl River Delta region of Southern China using an ichthyoarchaeological analysis. The analysis yielded a large number of fish remains, including at least 18 kinds of freshwater- and brackish water/inshore–associated fish taxa. They were likely caught by nets, traps, spears, and angling. The characteristics of this long-term fishing-reliant subsistence pattern help to elucidate the mechanisms of the sustainability and complexity of fishing-hunting-gathering communities. Objectives: Using a prospective longitudinal design, this paper examines a serial mediation model of the associations between self-compassion, trait mindfulness, caregiver stress, and depressive symptoms among the family caregivers of patients with lung cancer. Methods: A four-wave design was used, with initial assessment (T1) and three follow-ups, at the 2nd month (T2), the 5th month (T3), and the 8th month (T4). A total of 123 family caregivers completed the baseline measurements, including caregiver stress, self-compassion, trait mindfulness, and depressive symptoms. Data were analyzed by serial mediation models to determine the causal ordering of these variables. Results: Nearly one-quarter of the family caregivers suffered from clinically significant depressive symptoms and the severity of their depression remained unchanged throughout the 8-month follow-up period. Both cross-sectional and longitudinal path analyses revealed that the relationship between self-compassion and depressive symptoms was mediated sequentially by trait mindfulness and caregiver stress. The subscale analysis indicated that the association of higher compassionate action with fewer depressive symptoms was through chain-mediating effects of higher mindful awareness and lower caregiver stress. Conclusions: Family caregivers who have higher levels of self-compassion tend to have more mindfulness; greater mindfulness leads to lower levels of perceived caregiving stress which, in turn, links to fewer symptoms of depression. An iterativeframework based on finding point correspondences and estimating the transformation function is widely adopted for nonrigid point set registration. However, correspondences established based on feature descriptors are likely to be inaccurate. In this paper, we propose a novel transformation model that can learn from such correspondences. The model is built by means of weighted support vector (SV) regression with a quadratic ε-insensitive loss and manifold regularization. The loss is insensitive to noise, and the regularization forces the transformation function to preserve the intrinsic geometry of the input data. To assess the confidences of correspondences, we introduce a probabilistic model that is solved using the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm. Then, we input the confidences into the transformation model as instance weights to guide model training. We use the coordinate descent method to solve the transformation model in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space and accelerate its speed by means of sparse approximation. Existing paradigms for stroke diagnosis typically involve computed tomography (CT) imaging to classify ischemic versus hemorrhagic stroke variants, as treatment for these subtypes varies widely. Delays in diagnosis and transport of unstable patients may worsen neurological status. To address these issues, we describe the development of a rapid, portable, and accurate eddy current damping (ECD) stroke sensor. Copper wire was wound to create large (11.4 cm), medium (4.5 cm), and small (1.5 cm) solenoid coils with varying diameters, with each connected to an inductance-to-digital converter. Eight human participants were recruited between December 15, 2019 and March 15, 2020, including two hemorrhagic stroke, two ischemic stroke, one subarachnoid hemorrhage, and three control participants. Observers were blinded to lesion type and location. A head cap with 8 horizontal scanning paths was placed on the patient. The sensor was tangentially rotated across each row on the patient's head circumferentially. Consent, positioning, and scanning with the sensor took roughly 15 min from start to end for each participant and all scanning took place at the patient bedside. The ECD sensor accurately classified and imaged each of the varying stroke types in each patient. The stability of high steep rock slopes directly influences the success or failure of whole engineering construction processes. Slope excavation and reinforcement with prestressed anchor cable can effectively improve the stability of the slope. However, the blasting stress waves have a great impact on the anchor cables that have been installed or are under construction. In this paper, a new simulating method of prestressed anchor cables is proposed for high steep rock slopes in consideration of the construction process and the reinforcement mechanism. And a simple simulating method of slope blasting excavation load is developed. The bearing capacity of prestressed anchor cables under slope blasting excavation is analysed via an ideal generalized slope model based on the left bank slope of the Jinping I hydropower station. The results show that the degree by which the distance from the blasting zone, the damping ratio, the maximum single-shot dose and the grade of the prestressed anchor cable impact the bearing capacity behaviours of the prestressed anchor cable decrease over time. Anchor cables are most prone to vibration failure within 5 m from the outer anchor head. The increase in tensile force is the largest on the anchor head at the slope surface. The impact of the maximum single-shot dose and damping ratio on the small-tonnage anchor cable is greater than that on the large-tonnage anchor cable. The anti-explosion performance of the large-tonnage anchor cable is better than that of the small-tonnage anchor cable. The foundations and experience needed to optimize the parameters of blasting excavation and anchor cable design for similar high-slope projects in China or other regions are presented. Some patients with severe asthma experience exacerbations despite receiving multiple therapy. The risk of exacerbation and heterogeneous response to treatment may be associated with specific inflammatory molecules that are responsive or resistant to corticosteroids. We aimed to identify the independent factors predictive for the future risk of exacerbation in patients with severe asthma. In this multi-center prospective observational study, 132 patients with severe asthma were enrolled and divided into exacerbation (n = 52) and non-exacerbation (n = 80) groups on the basis of exacerbation rate after a 1-year follow-up period. We found that previous history of severe-to-serious exacerbation, baseline blood eosinophil counts (≥ 291cells/μL), and serum tryptase (≤ 1448 pg/mL) and thrymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) levels (≥ 25 pg/mL) independently predicted the future development of exacerbation with adjusted odds ratios (AOR) of 3.27, 6.04, 2.53 and 8.67, respectively. Notably, the patients with high blood eosinophil counts and low tryptase levels were likely to have more exacerbations than those with low blood eosinophil counts and high tryptase levels (AOR 16.9). TSLP potentially played the pathogenic role across different asthma phenotypes. TSLP and tryptase levels may be implicated in steroid resistance and responsiveness in the asthma inflammatory process. γδ T cells are a distinct subgroup of T cells that bridge the innate and adaptive immune system and can attack cancer cells in an MHC-unrestricted manner. Trials of adoptive γδ T cell transfer in solid tumors have had limited success. Here, we show that DNA methyltransferase inhibitors (DNMTis) upregulate surface molecules on cancer cells related to γδ T cell activation using quantitative surface proteomics. DNMTi treatment of human lung cancer potentiates tumor lysis by ex vivo-expanded Vδ1-enriched γδ T cells. Mechanistically, DNMTi enhances immune synapse formation and mediates cytoskeletal reorganization via coordinated alterations of DNA methylation and chromatin accessibility. Genetic depletion of adhesion molecules or pharmacological inhibition of actin polymerization abolishes the potentiating effect of DNMTi. Clinically, the DNMTi-associated cytoskeleton signature stratifies lung cancer patients prognostically. These results support a combinatorial strategy of DNMTis and γδ T cell-based immunotherapy in lung cancer management. Gamma delta (γδ) T cells have potential for use in immunotherapy against tumours. We hypothesized that epigenetics is a link between smoking/allergen exposures and the development of Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (ACO). A total of 75 of 228 COPD patients were identified as ACO, which was independently associated with increased exacerbations. Microarray analysis identified 404 differentially methylated loci (DML) in ACO patients, and 6575 DML in those with rapid lung function decline in a discovery cohort. In the validation cohort, ACO patients had hypermethylated PDE9A (+ 30,088)/ZNF323 (− 296), and hypomethylated SEPT8 (− 47) genes as compared with either pure COPD patients or healthy non-smokers. Hypermethylated TIGIT (− 173) gene and hypomethylated CYSLTR1 (+ 348)/CCDC88C (+ 125,722)/ADORA2B (+ 1339) were associated with severe airflow limitation, while hypomethylated IFRD1 (− 515) gene with frequent exacerbation in all the COPD patients. Hypermethylated ZNF323 (− 296) / MPV17L (+ 194) and hypomethylated PTPRN2 (+ 10,000) genes were associated with rapid lung function decline. In vitro cigarette smoke extract and ovalbumin concurrent exposure resulted in specific DNA methylation changes of the MPV17L / ZNF323 genes, while 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine treatment reversed promoter hypermethylation-mediated MPV17L under-expression accompanied with reduced apoptosis and decreased generation of reactive oxygen species. Sanwei-Tanxiang powder (SWTX), a traditional Mongolian and Tibetan medicine containing a cocktail of active molecules, relieves angina pectoris and improves recovery in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). The pharmacological effect of SWTX on CHD was analyzed at a systemic point of view in our previous studies. The bioinformatics prediction showed that the PI3K/Akt/FoxO3a pathway was one of important pathways of SWTX on treatment of coronary heart disease. Based on it, the aim of this study was to evaluate the benefits of SWTX in acute myocardial ischemic-reperfused (MIR) rat in vivo and H9c2 cardiomyoblast cells under oxidative stress induced by H2O2 in vitro, and further investigate the involvement of PI3K/Akt/FoxO3a pathway in these processes. Ex vivo, under physiological conditions, SWTX did not show any modification in the heart rate and contraction amplitude. However, against a MIR injury, SWTX pretreatment provided significant protection, including reduced ST-segment elevation, pathological changes and myocardial infarct size in vivo, meanwhile, some monomers of SWTX showed antioxidant capacity and inhibited cardiomyocytic apoptosis in vitro. The effect was correlated with the activation of the PI3K/Akt/FoxO3a signaling pathway downstream and the regulation of downstream pro-apoptotic Bim of FoxO3a experimental verified by qRT-PCR, Western blot and immunofluorescent assay. In vitro, blocking Akt and p-FoxO3a activation with the PI3K inhibitor LY294002 effectively suppressed the protective effects of several active monomers (including quercetin, macelignan,methyleugenol and Santol) of SWTX against H2O2-induced injury. Collectively, these results suggest that SWTX decreases I/R injury, and the PI3K/Akt/FoxO3a pathway takes part in protection during this process, gallogen (G3) and quercetin (G8) of GZ, methyleugenol (R2) and macelignan (R7) of RDK, santol (T1) of TX are responsible at least in part for SWTX's cardioprotection effect. Ground vibrations are an integral part of the process of rock blasting. The analysis of blasting vibration attenuation is the basis for a blasting risk assessment. To study the influence of rock joints on the blasting vibration attenuation, an autoclaved aerated concrete block was used as a similar material of rock in model tests of blasting vibration propagation. The attenuation process of the blasting vibration was physically simulated. The attenuation behaviors of the blasting vibrations in different directions to joint strike were fitted. Additionally, a positive correlation between the attenuation parameters and the directions was obtained. Furthermore, the Hilbert–Huang transform (HHT) based on the complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN) was used to analyze the vibration velocity signals. The characteristics and variation of the energy distribution were studied in the time–frequency domain. The results showed that the energy amplitude decreased as the propagation distance increased. The energy distribution gradually evolved from concentrated to discrete in the frequency domain. The low-frequency components were always present in the velocity signals at each measurement point, but the high-frequency components constantly changed due to the reflection and transmission of the waves after encountering the joint surfaces. A significantly negative reversion in the QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-tube (QFT-GIT) test is reported in patients on dialysis, which makes the results unreliable. The CD4 and CD8 responses of the QFT-Gold plus (QFT-Plus) may have better positive consistency, but this needs to be investigated. We enrolled dialysis patients with baseline positive QFT-GIT0 results and conducted two rounds of follow-up paired QFT-GIT1&2 and QFT-Plus1&2 tests at an interval of 6 months. The positive consistency, concordance, and discordance of the QFT results were analyzed. A total of 236 patients on dialysis were screened, and 73 participants with positive QFT-GIT0 results were enrolled. The baseline QFT-GIT0 response was higher in the 1st QFT-Plus1(+) group than in the QFT-Plus1(−) group, but insignificantly different between the 1st QFT-GIT1(+) and QFT-GIT1(−) groups. The two assays had good correlation when concurrently tested. Fifty-three subjects completed a second round of the QFT-GIT2 and QFT-Plus2. Persistent positivity was higher with the QFT-Plus2 (81.8%) than with the QFT-GIT2 (58.8%, p = 0.040). The QFT-GIT1 and QFT-Plus1 CD4 responses were higher in patients with persistent positivity than in those with negative reversion, whereas the difference of the QFT-Plus TB1 and TB2 data, representative of the CD8 response, were similar between positive persistence and negative reversion. In conclusion, the QFT-Plus provides more reliable positive consistency than does the QFT-GIT. The CD4 interferon-γ response might play a role in maintaining positivity of LTBI. Background: The potential differences between a clinical diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) (i.e., symptoms without positive virus test) and a microbiological diagnosis (i.e., positive virus test results) of COVID-19 are not known. Aims: This study explored the differences between the two types of COVID-19 diagnosis among older patients in terms of clinical characteristics and outcomes. Methods: A total of 244 inpatients aged ≥ 60 years with COVID-19 were included in this study, of whom 52 were clinically diagnosed and 192 were microbiologically diagnosed. Clinical and laboratory data on hospital admission and outcomes (discharged or died in hospital) of all patients were retrieved from medical records retrospectively. Patients who met the criteria for clinical diagnosis with negative virus test results were assigned to the clinical diagnosis group, whereas those with positive virus test results were assigned to the microbiological diagnosis group. After univariate analyses, two propensity score analyses [i.e., covariate adjustment using propensity score (CAPS) and propensity score matching (PSM)] were conducted to control bias. Results: The clinical and microbiological diagnosis groups demonstrated significant differences in outcomes and in the majority of laboratory findings. After propensity score analyses, many differences between the two groups disappeared and the rate of mortality had no statistically significant difference (P = 0.318 and 0.828 for CAPS and PSM, respectively). Conclusions: Patients with similar signs, symptoms, and laboratory and imaging findings as confirmed COVID-19 cases may have a similar mortality risk, regardless of the virus test results, and require timely intervention to reduce their mortality. Optimal peak inspiratory flow rate (PIFR) is crucial for optimizing dry powder inhaler (DPI) effectiveness for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study provide an insight that there was a substantial proportion of improper PIFRs (not only insufficient but also excessive) among COPD patients using DPIs. We enrolled 138 COPD patients from a medical center in Taiwan and measured PIFRs against different internal resistances of DPIs. Proportion of excessive, optimal, suboptimal, and insufficient PIFRs were 2%, 54%, 41%, 3%, respectively, against medium-high resistance; 2%, 77%, 20%, 1%, respectively, against medium resistance; 27%, 63%, 9%, 1%, respectively, against medium-low resistance; and 42%, 57%, 1%, 0%, respectively, against low resistance (p < 0.01). Although most PIFRs against medium-high (54%), medium (77%), medium-low (63%) and low (57%) resistance were optimal, a substantial proportion of PIFRs against low resistance were excessive (42%, p < 0.01), irrespective of age, body-mass index, dyspnea severity score, and COPD severity. Insufficient PIFRs were infrequent, but suboptimal/insufficient PIFRs were most prevalent in patients older than 75 years than in younger patients (36% vs. 56%, p = 0.036) against medium-high resistance. Target lung tissue selection remains a challenging task to perform for treating severe emphysema with lung volume reduction (LVR). In order to target the treatment candidate, the percentage of low attenuation volume (LAV%) representing the proportion of emphysema volume to whole lung volume is measured using computed tomography (CT) images. Although LAV% have shown to have a correlation with lung function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), similar measurements of LAV% in whole lung or lobes may have large variations in lung function due to emphysema heterogeneity. The functional information of regional emphysema destruction is required for supporting the choice of optimal target. The purpose of this study is to develop an emphysema heterogeneity descriptor for the three-dimensional emphysematous bullae according to the size variations of emphysematous density (ED) and their spatial distribution. The second purpose is to derive a predictive model of airflow limitation based on the regional emphysema heterogeneity. Deriving the bullous representation and grouping them into four scales in the upper and lower lobes, a predictive model is computed using the linear model fitting to estimate the severity of lung function. A total of 99 subjects, 87 patients with mild to very severe COPD (Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) stage I~IV) and 12 control participants with normal lung functions (forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1)/forced vital capacity (FVC) > 0.7) were evaluated. The final model was trained with stratified cross-validation on randomly selected 75% of the dataset (n = 76) and tested on the remaining dataset (n = 23). The dispersed cases of LAV% inconsistent with their lung function outcome were evaluated, and the correlation study suggests that comparing to LAV of larger bullae, the widely spread smaller bullae with equivalent LAV has a larger impact on lung function. The testing dataset has the correlation of r = −0.76 (p < 0.01) between the whole lung LAV% and FEV1/FVC, whereas using two ED % of scales and location-dependent variables to predict the emphysema-associated FEV1/FVC, the results shows their correlation of 0.82 (p < 0.001) with clinical FEV1/FVC. Metal oxide semiconductor sensors based on nanocrystalline In2O3 and its composites are found to be very sensitive in detecting low-concentration (~ 5 ppm) gases such as ozone, nitrogen dioxide, formaldehyde and butane. Here, we successfully obtained fiber-shaped In2O3 crystalline nanofibers via electrospun and calcination routes. The gas sensing properties of the In2O3 nanofibers were studied by exposing them to the acetic acid vapor with different concentrations from 500 ppb to 2000 ppm at the optimum operating temperature (250 °C). The device possesses ultra-high response of 66.7 toward 2000 ppm acetic acid vapor, low response and recovery times of 25 s and 37 s (100 ppm), respectively, and significant selectivity to acetic acid at 100 ppm. In particular, the sensor based on In2O3 nanofibers has very low detection limit and can reach 500 ppb. Based on the rock mass quality classification, this paper proposes a new prediction formula for the attenuation parameters of blasting vibration velocity in jointed rock masses. A parametric sensitivity study is also conducted while considering a variety of influence factors, including joint angle, joint spacing, and joint stiffness. Compared to the existing blast-related standard in China, in which the attenuation parameters are merely derived from rock hardness, without considering the joint characteristics of rock masses, the proposed prediction formula is proved to be a more promising approach to carry out accurate blasting design and blasting safety assessment. This study examines the effects of Stokes drift on pollutant transport within the surf zone on a plane beach both numerically and experimentally. Firstly, the numerical model is described. The wave-induced current is modeled using the concept of the radiation stress. The wave propagation model is based on the wave energy conservation equation. And the advective diffusion model including the Stokes drift is used to describe the pollutant transport in the surf zone. Model validation was achieved in this case versus an analytical solution for an instantaneous point source in a uniform horizontal flow. This study also describes a laboratory experiment on dye release in the surf zone over a plane beach. We examined the final inclination angle required by a continuously released pollutant plume to reach the shoreline under both cases, and transport velocities in the alongshore and cross-shore directions were estimated by linearly fitting the location of a dye-patch front at different time. Results show that this dye patch moved shoreward with an approximate speed of 0.05 m/s (0.017 m/s) between 10 s and 40 s and 0.001 m/s (0.011 m/s) after 40 s for Case 1 (2). This model was then used to simulate pollutant transport in the surf zone on a plane beach as reproduced in the current experiment. Comparisons between our dye transport experiment and numerical results were then also conducted; the data showed that the numerical results including Stokes drift agreed more closely with experimental results than those without it. The data showed that the pollutant was generally transported obviously shoreward in addition to its expected drift along the shore. Background: Atypical cells may occasionally be the only pathologic finding in radial-probe endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)-guided transbronchial biopsy (TBB) of peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs); however, it is uncertain how often we encounter such a situation and what clinical features can be used to identify these ambiguous PPLs, which are more likely to be malignant.Methods: From 2009 to 2016, consecutive patients referred for EBUS-guided TBB of PPLs and with pathology reports indicating atypical cells alone were included. Medical records were reviewed to extract patient demographics, clinical characteristics, procedural details and complications. The primary outcome was the final diagnosis of the PPLs on subsequent investigation. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent factors associated with a final malignant diagnosis.Results: One hundred sixty-five (7.2%) of 2291 patients had non-diagnostic TBB showing atypical cells. Benign and malignant diagnoses were subsequently obtained in 45 (27%) and 120 (73%) patients, respectively. The leading malignancy was lung adenocarcinoma; of note, a variety of benign lesions revealed cellular atypia on pathology, in particular, chronic inflammation, tuberculosis and pneumonia. Multivariate analysis indicated lesion appearance [solid vs. others; odds ratio (OR) 7.93; 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.94-21.40; P < 0.001] and probe position (adjacent to vs. within; OR 3.36; 95% CI 1.11-10.15; P = 0.032) were two significant factors predictive of a final diagnosis of malignancy.Conclusions: One out of 14 EBUS-guided TBB procedures for PPLs exhibited atypical cells on pathology. Previous studies have suggested a positive relationship between secularization and happiness, as well as a geographical, cultural and development pattern, primarily based on data gathered in Europe and the USA. To gain a more holistic view on the interrelationships between secularization, religiosity and subjective perception of well-being, this study utilized the Wave 6 archival data set (2010-2014) of World Values Survey, which contains 74,042 observations from 60 countries. In this study, the rating of satisfaction with life was treated as the dependent variable. Four secular value indices and 12 variables related to religiosity were extracted from the data set for predictive analysis. Data mining tools, such as the partition tree and bootstrap forest approaches, suggested that only secular values were influential. Specifically, secular values had a negative relationship with satisfaction. In addition, hierarchical clustering based on secularization and satisfaction did not suggest a meaningful pattern. For example, the dendrogram showed that South Korea, Lebanon, Estonia and Algeria were grouped together. This implies that secularization and satisfaction could vary from country to country, regardless of their geographical location, culture and development status. Specifically, countries that are similar in terms of satisfaction and secularization are not necessarily culturally similar or geographically clustered. This discourages the idea that these factors (e.g., location, development status, culture) play a role in mediating the relationship between secularization and religiosity. By directly contradicting previous work showing a pattern based on Europe and the USA, this finding challenges the existing understanding of the relationship between these factors. By expanding the scope of study to the whole world, the current analysis suggested that the existing view regarding the positive relationship between secularization and well-being might be oversimplified. Under changeable pumped medium and working environment, the twin-screw pump is prone to be broken by fatigue failures. A structure optimization design model and method of the driving shaft are presented based on response surface methodology and finite element analysis. In this model, the shaft diameter, chamfering degree and the shaft extension of the power end are selected as optimization variables, the limit values of the variables and maximal normal deformation of the spindle are considered as the constraint conditions, and the minimization of the equivalent alternating stress on the dangerous shaft section is taken as the optimization objective so as to improve the shaft fatigue reliability. The optimization results of a case show that the equivalent alternating stress on the dangerous spindle section reduces by 26.2 %, and the maximal normal deformation decreases by 25.2 % compared with the original design. The seismic efficiency of a blast is the percentage of seismic energy in the total energy delivered by the explosives. It is a key indicator of the blast effects in civil engineering and seismic exploration. A method to determine seismic efficiency has been proposed based on the assumption of spherical wave radiation in an indefinite elastic medium and has been used in a series of blast tests performed at the construction site of a nuclear power plant. Analysis of the influencing factors of seismic efficiency shows that seismic efficiency increases with an increasing explosive charge and stemming length of the blastholes, while it decreases with an increasing decoupling coefficient. Generally, seismic efficiency is markedly lower in bench blasts than in paddock blasts due to free surface effects. Under any circumstances, the seismic energy only accounts for a few percent of the explosive energy. A comparison with theoretical solutions proves that the errors in the present method are low and acceptable in engineering. Purpose: Limited research has focused on women with lung cancer (LC) although they are recognized as the most vulnerable to psychological distress. This study explored in-depth the psychological distress experienced by women with incurable LC and analyzed the coping strategies with which they manage that distress.Methods: A qualitative methodology with in-depth interviews was employed for 34 women with advanced or recurrent LC. An inductive data-driven thematic analysis was applied to analyze transcripts.Results: Psychological distress was an iterative process for the women. Four themes were identified: shock regarding the diagnosis, distress regarding cancer treatment and its side effects, the facing of a recurrent or progressive disease, and persistent struggle with the life-limiting disease. Various coping strategies applied by the women to manage psychological distress were grouped into four themes: relying upon social support, focusing on positive thoughts, avoidance-based strategies, and religious faith and acceptance.Conclusions: Women with incurable LC experienced substantial iterative psychological distress throughout the illness, regardless of length of illness at time of interview. They applied multiple forms of coping. The findings enrich the limited existing literature on this understudied population and provide direction for the future development of interventions to improve their psychological well-being. We present a simple implementation of a thermal energy harvesting circuit with the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control for self-powered miniature-sized sensor nodes. Complex start-up circuitry and direct current to direct current (DC-DC) boost converters are not required, because the output voltage of targeted thermoelectric generator (TEG) devices is high enough to drive the load applications directly. The circuit operates in the active/asleep mode to overcome the power mismatch between TEG devices and load applications. The proposed circuit was implemented using a 0.35-μm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process. Experimental results confirmed correct circuit operation and demonstrated the performance of the MPPT scheme. Noble metal-based nanomaterials have shown promise as potential enzyme mimetics, but the facet effect and underlying molecular mechanisms are largely unknown. Herein, with a combined experimental and theoretical approach, we unveil that palladium (Pd) nanocrystals exhibit facet-dependent oxidase and peroxidase-like activities that endow them with excellent antibacterial properties via generation of reactive oxygen species. The antibacterial efficiency of Pd nanocrystals against Gram-positive bacteria is consistent with the extent of their enzyme-like activity, that is {100}-faceted Pd cubes with higher activities kill bacteria more effectively than {111}-faceted Pd octahedrons. Surprisingly, a reverse trend of antibacterial activity is observed against Gram-negative bacteria, with Pd octahedrons displaying stronger penetration into bacterial membranes than Pd nanocubes, thereby exerting higher antibacterial activity than the latter. Our findings provide a deeper understanding of facetdependent enzyme-like activities and might advance the development of noble metal-based nanomaterials with both enhanced and targeted antibacterial activities. Thousands of genes have been well demonstrated to play important roles in cancer progression. As genes do not function in isolation, they can be grouped into "networks" based on their interactions. In this study, we discover a network regulating Claudin-4 in gastric cancer. We observe that Claudin-4 is up-regulated in gastric cancer and is associated with poor prognosis. Claudin-4 reinforce proliferation, invasion, and EMT in AGS, HGC-27, and SGC-7901 cells, which could be reversed by miR-596 and miR-3620-3p. In addition, lncRNA-KRTAP5-AS1 and lncRNA-TUBB2A could act as competing endogenous RNAs to affect the function of Claudin-4. Our results suggest that non-coding RNAs play important roles in the regulatory network of Claudin-4.
