The widespread use of organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) in industrial and household products increases the risk of their environmental exposure, posing a serious threat to ecosystems and human health. Photocatalytic technology has been widely used in wastewater treatment due to its high efficiency, mild reaction conditions, and robustness. This review summarizes the current status of research on photocatalytic degradation of OPFRs, focusing on the effect of different types of catalysts on the degradation efficiency, the effects of pH, and co-existing inorganic and organic ions. And pH and co-existing inorganic mainly affect the active oxygen and the active surface sites of the catalyst. In addition, toxicological calculations of the intermediates of the degradation pathway using T.E.S.T. and ECOSAR showed that photocatalysis could effectively reduce the toxicity of OPFRs. Development of new photocatalytic materials, in-depth study of the degradation mechanism of different catalysts and flame retardants, and attention to practical applications and toxicity issues can be the development direction of future research. Organophosphorus esters (OPEs), exemplified by tris (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), find extensive application in diverse industries such as construction materials, textiles, chemical manufacturing, and electronics, consequently resulting in an increased concentration of these compounds in industrial wastewater. The fundamental objective of this investigation was to examine the degradation of TCEP through the implementation of US/Fenton oxidation techniques in a solution. The findings revealed that the US/Fenton system effectively facilitated the degradation of TCEP, with the Chan kinetic model precisely elucidating the degradation process. Under optimized reaction conditions, the degradation efficiency of TCEP reached an impressive 93.18%. However, the presence of common co-existing aqueous substrates such as Cl−, HCO3−, H2PO4−, and HA hindered the degradation process. Bursting tests and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies affirmed ∙OH oxidation as the principal mechanism underlying TCEP degradation. Detailed degradation pathways for TCEP were established through the utilization of density-functional theory (DFT) calculations and GC/MS tests. The widespread use of cyanidation in gold beneficiation leads to a large amount of SCN− in the gold extract tail solution, which poses a threat to the environment and human health. The present study successfully synthesized octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide/bentonite/titanium dioxide (OTAB/Bt/TiO2) photocatalysts through a sol–gel hydrothermal approach. Evaluation of the BET specific surface area, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and zeta potential experiments unveiled the beneficial impact of incorporating OTAB. This inclusion led to an enlargement of the pore size and layer spacing of Bt, broadening the range of photoresponses. Additionally, it effectively neutralized the negative charge residing on the surface of Bt. Consequently, these enhancements contributed to the improved performance of the photocatalytic material in terms of adsorption and catalytic degradation of SCN−. The degradation rate of SCN− reached 98.78% under the reaction conditions of initial SCN− concentration of 50 mg/L, OTAB/Bt/TiO2 dosage of 0.8 g/L, pH = 8, and reaction time of 300 min. The degradation of the SCN− composite through the OTAB/Bt/TiO2 photocatalytic process followed a zero-order kinetic model with a calculated rate constant (k value) of 0.1148 min−1. Notably, this rate constant was 1.9 times greater than the degradation rate observed in the pure TiO2 system. The free radical quenching test showed that h+, ∙OH and ∙O2− were the main oxidizing substances for photocatalytic degradation. The identification of intermediates proved that the complete mineralization of SCN− could be achieved by OTAB/Bt/TiO2 adsorption and photocatalytic degradation without generating the highly toxic intermediate CN−. Overall, this study provides guidance for the development of more photocatalysts with strong adsorption properties and more effective removal of SCN− from gold extraction tailings. The incidence of bone metastasis (BM) in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients is low and the prognosis is poor. There is no clear conclusion on the risk factors affecting the survival of CRC patients with BM. The aim of this study was to investigate the factors that may affect the prognosis of CRC patients with BM. The clinical and pathological data of CRC patients with BM were retrospectively analyzed. The overall survival after BM diagnosis was estimated using the Kaplan–Meier method and Log-rank test, and a multivariable cox regression model was used to identify the prognostic factors of overall survival. This study included 178 CRC patients with BM, of whom 151 had left-sided CRC and 27 had right-sided colon cancer. 1124 CRC patients with BM from the SEER database were included to perform a sensitivity analysis of the primary outcome. Multivariate analysis showed that the N staging, site of BM, and primary tumor sidedness (PTS) were independent prognostic factors for CRC with BM. Among them, right-sided colon cancer patients with BM had a poorer prognosis. Sensitivity analyses showed that PTS was an independent prognostic factor in CRC patients with BM. Primary tumor sidedness and N stage may be potential prognostic markers for BM of CRC. The prognosis of N0 stage CRC with BM is better, while the prognosis of right-sided colon cancer is poor. The U6 promoter, a typical RNA polymerase III promoter, is widely used to transcribe small RNAs in vector-based siRNA systems. The RNAi efficiency is mainly dependent on the transcriptional activity of the U6 promoter. However, studies have found that U6 promoters isolated from some fishes do not work well in distantly related species. To isolate a U6 promoter with high transcriptional efficiency from fish, in this study, we cloned five U6 promoters in orange-spotted grouper, of which only the grouper U6-1 (GU6-1) promoter contains the OCT element in the distant region. Functional studies revealed that the GU6-1 promoter has high transcriptional ability, which could efficiently transcribe shRNA and result in target gene knockdown in vitro and in vivo. Subsequently, the deletion or mutation of the OCT motif resulted in a significant decrease in promoter transcriptional activity, demonstrating that the OCT element plays an important role in enhancing the grouper U6 promoter transcription. Moreover, the transcriptional activity of the GU6-1 promoter showed little species specificity. It not only works in the grouper but also possesses high transcriptional activity in the zebrafish. Knockdown of the mstn gene in zebrafish and grouper through shRNA driven by the GU6-1 promoter could promote fish growth, suggesting that the GU6-1 promoter can be used as a potential molecular tool in aquaculture practice. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of different fertilizer treatments and crop rotations on crop yield stability. A 9 years field experiment was conducted from 2013 to 2021 to evaluate the effects of combinations of two annual crop rotations and two methods of applying fertilizer on crop yield stability. Crop rotations were kidney bean–mustard–rice (P–B–O) and kidney bean–mustard–cowpea (P–B–V) each year. Fertilization methods were recommended fertilization (RF) and conventional fertilization (CF). The indexes Wi2 (Wricke's ecovalance), coefficient of variation (CV), and sustainable yield index (SYI) were used to quantify the long term effects of crop rotation and fertilization on crop yield stability, and a yield change trend model was used to predict future production. For fertilization program RF, average kidney bean and mustard yields in rotation P–B–O increased respectively by 7.47% and 19.37% over P–B–V in the 9 years of the project. For CF, average kidney bean and mustard yields for P–B–O increased respectively by 14.99% and 18.33% over P–B–V. Wi2 indexes of kidney bean and mustard for P–B–O (respectively 116 and 956) were significantly less than for P–B–V (respectively 147.87 and 1259.67). SYI for kidney beans and mustard in P–B–O (respectively 0.63 and 0.57) were significantly greater than for P–B–V (respectively 0.50 and 0.42). The trends of crop average yields for RF and CF show that the average yield trends of kidney bean in P–B–O (respectively 32.41 and 32.34) were greater than in P–B–V (respectively 29.56 and 27.45). The trends of average yields of mustard for RF and CF in P–B–O (respectively 64.18 and 60.87) were greater than in P–B–V (respectively 51.74 and 51.87). The preceding results led to the conclusion that long term annual P–B–O rotation combined with RF considerably increased yield and maintained yield stability, thus establishing the sustainability of this cropping system. Background: Radiation exposure is inherently involved in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), which could cause radiation-induced injury to endoscopists with long-term exposure. Nonradiation ERCP has been applied to pregnant patients. Conceivably, the same techniques could be used to benefit endoscopists. This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of nonradiation-to-endoscopist (NRE) ERCP, compared with standard ERCP. Methods: A retrospective, single-center study was conducted from August 2010 to December 2015. Patients aged 18–90 years and with choledocholithiasis (< 15 mm) or distal biliary stricture were eligible. Pre-ERCP evaluation with magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography was mandatory. To overcome selection bias, we performed 1:2 match using propensity score matching (PSM) between NRE and standard groups. The primary endpoint was overall ERCP success rate. Secondary endpoints were cannulation success rate, stone clearance rate, complication rate, and duration of hospitalization. Results: A total of 329 patients met inclusion criteria. After PSM, 73 patients were included in the NRE group and 146 in the standard group. The ERCP overall success rate for NRE and standard groups was equivalent (94.5% vs. 93.2%, P = 0.70). There was no difference in cannulation success rates between the two groups (95.6% vs. 97.8%, P = 0.39). A total of 88.3% of patients in the NRE group and 93.9% of patients in the standard group had stones cleared at initial ERCP (P = 0.57). No difference in overall stone clearance rate between the two groups (95.0% vs. 93.9%, P = 0.77) was found after second ERCP. The complication rate (1.4% vs. 1.4%, P = 1.00) and hospital duration (8.3 ± 5.1 vs. 10.2 ± 8.8 days, P = 0.07) were not different between the two groups. Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most common type of male cancer in western. Despite key roles of brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor 1-associated protein like 2 (BAIAP2L2) in several cancers, the function of BAIAP2L2 in PCa is never reported. Objective: We aimed to investigate the role of BAIAP2L2 in the progression of PCa and decipher the underlying mechanisms. Methods: RNA sequencing data from TCGA database were used to evaluate the expression of BAIAP2L2 in PCa. Survival analysis and Cox regression model analysis were conducted to evaluate the prognostic value of BAIAP2L2. BAIAP2L2-associated pathways were preliminary analyzed by Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) method and confirmed by western blot assays. Cell proliferation and transwell assays were performed to determine biological behaviors in BAIAP2L2 knocked-down or overexpressed PCa cell lines including LNCaP and PC-3 cells. Results: In our study, BAIAP2L2 was significantly up-regulated in PCa tissues and cell lines and independently associated with the poor prognosis of PCa patients. Knockdown of BAIAP2L2 notably repressed proliferation, migration and invasion of PCa cells. And overexpression of BAIAP2L2 obtained the contrary results. Mechanically, GSEA method and western blot results of key molecules in signaling pathways implicated that the depletion of BAIAP2L2 inactivated the vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs) and induced apoptosis signaling pathways in PCa cells. Conclusions: Overall, these findings revealed that BAIAP2L2 may support tumorigenesis and malignant development of prostate cancer cells via VEGF and apoptosis signaling pathways, and it could be considered as a promising biomarker and independent prognostic predictor of prostate cancer. Growth hormone–releasing hormone (GHRH) is a neuropeptide that controls growth hormone (GH) synthesis and release. In this study, the full-length cDNA of Mastacembelus armatus ghrh was obtained by rapid amplification of cDNA ends method. Sequence analysis showed that the cloned sequence is 1090 bp in length, containing an open reading frame (ORF) of 429 bp that encodes a precursor protein of 142 amino acids. Sequence alignment revealed that the 27-amino acid mature peptide of Ghrh in M. armatus is conserved. Real-time PCR showed that ghrh is highly expressed in the brain, with very low or no expression in other tissues. During embryonic and larval development, ghrh expression was low in embryos but increased gradually in the stages of larval development. The biological function of Ghrh peptide was further investigated in vivo. Ghrh injection could significantly upregulate the mRNA expression of growth hormone (gh) and insulin-like growth factor-1/2 (igf-1/2) in M. armatus. By merging reconstructed phenological series from published articles and observations of China Phenology Observation Network (CPON), the first blooming date of Amygdalus davidiana (FBA) in Beijing between 1741 and 2000 is reconstructed. The Butterworth method is used to remove the multi-year variations for generating the phenological series of annual variations in the first blooming date of A. davidiana. The extreme delay years in the phenological series are identified using the percentage threshold method. The characteristics of the extreme delays and the correspondence of these events with natural forcings are analysed. The main results are as follows. In annual phenological series, the extreme delays appeared in single year as main feature, only A.D.1800-1801, 1816-1817 and 1983-1984 were the events of two consecutively extreme years. Approximately 85% of the extreme delays occurred during 1-2 years after the large volcanic eruptions (VEI ≥ 4) in the eastern rim or the western rim of the Pacific Ocean, as the same proportion of the extreme delays followed El Niño events. About 73% years of the extreme delays fall in the valleys of sunspot cycles or the Dalton minimum period in the year or the previous year. According to the certainty factor (CF), the large eruptions have the greatest influence to the extreme delays; sunspot activity is the second, and ENSO is the last one. The extreme phenological delayed year is most likely to occur after a large eruption, which particularly occurs during El Niño year and its previous several years were in the descending portion or valley of sunspot phase. The cladoceran Daphnia carinata undergoes an unusual transition from asexual to sexual reproduction in response to environmental stimuli. Previously, a D. carinata cuticular protein (CP) was identified in an EST library. In this study, the full-length CP cDNA was cloned and sequenced (GenBank accession number: KF551931), and the expression levels in different reproductive states were assessed. Parthenogenetic and sexual female D. carinata were isolated, and CP expression was investigated using semiquantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). CP was expressed during both reproductive stages, but expression was higher in sexual females. Cellular localization was also investigated using digoxin-labeled RNA probes in RNA whole-mount in situ hybridization assays, and CP was mainly expressed in the first pair of thoracic appendages, the surface of the head, shell spines, and other parts of the epidermis in parthenogenetic organisms.
