Institutional change is seen as a key factor in solving social and economic problems in both developing countries, and advanced economies. The transformation from party-state to market economy and from a monopolistic communist party system to democracy brings new insight into the debate about institutional change. The series of “velvet revolutions” experienced in the whole region provoked a true evolution of scientific interpretations of the institution building process.
