The accumulated data in the cell line panel made it possible to examine the associations between alleles at widely separated loci within the MHC. The calculation of 2- or 3-point delta values was clearly inappropriate given the limited size and the selection of the panel. Rather, we could determine whether particular “supratypes” or “extended haplotypes” could “split” apparently homogeneous alleles at multiple loci.
