An analytical solution for long waves propagating over a submerged atoll is established. The atolls involved in this study are annular coral reefs with large lagoons in the middle, and the expression of the cross section is a trinomial function of the radial distance, i.e., h=ar2s−brs+h0, where s is the positive rational number. This analytical solution extends the theory by Wang et al. (2018) as s is no longer limited to s=2/m, where m is the positive integer. In addition, by adjusting the terrain parameters properly, the analytic solution can be degenerated to describe the wave propagation over topography with a hump or pit. According to the relationship between wave rays and wave energy, the distribution characteristics and formation mechanism of energy over the topography are expounded. When the lagoon is non-existent, all wave rays converge at the x-axis, which results in an abrupt amplification of the wave amplitude around the convergence point. When a lagoon is mounted on the top of the atoll, the rays are scattered due to the refraction of the lagoon, and only some rays converge at the symmetrical axis and the ridges on both sides, which results in the amplification of wave amplitudes in these areas.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is one of the epigenetic modifications of RNA. The addition of this chemical mark to RNA molecules regulates gene expression by affecting the fate of the RNA molecules. This posttranscriptional RNA modification is reversible and regulated by methyltransferase “writers” and demethylase “erasers”. The fate of m6A-modified RNAs depends on the function of different “readers” that recognize and bind to them. Research on m6A methylation modification has recently increased due to its important role in regulating cancer progression. Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) are a class of RNA molecules that are transcribed from the genome but whose roles have been overlooked due to their lack of well-defined potential for translation into proteins or peptides. However, this misconception has now been completely overturned. ncRNAs regulate various diseases, especially tumors, and it has been confirmed that they play either tumor-promoting or tumor-suppressing roles in almost all types of tumors. In this review, we discuss the m6A modification of different types of ncRNA and summarize the mechanisms involved. Finally, we discuss the progress of research on clinical treatment and discuss the important significance of the m6A modification of ncRNAs in the clinical treatment of tumors.

Oral absorption of docetaxel was limited by drug efflux pump p-glycoprotein (P-gp) and cytochrome P450 enzyme (CYP 450). Therefore, co-loading agent that inhibits P-gp and CYP 450 in self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEs) is considered as a promising strategy for oral delivery of docetaxel. In this study, curcumin was selected as an inhibitor of P-gp and CYP 450, and it was coencapsuled in SMEs to improve the oral bioavailability of docetaxel. SMEs quickly dispersed in water within 20 seconds, and the droplet size was 32.23 ± 2.21 nm. The release rate of curcumin from DC-SMEs was higher than that of docetaxel in vitro. Compared with free docetaxel, SMEs significantly increased the permeability of docetaxel by 4.6 times. And competitive experiments showed that the increased permeability was the result of inhibition of p-gp. The half-life and oral bioavailabilty of DC-SMEs increased about 1.7 times and 1.6 times than docetaxel SMEs, which indicated that its good pharmacokinetic behavior was releated to the restriction of hepatic first-pass metabolism. In conclusion, DC-SMEs was an ideal platform to facilitate oral delivery of docetaxel through inhibited P-gp and CYP 450.

Although physical exercise may improve memory in older adults, whether the Chinese traditional fitness exercise Wuqinxi improves working memory and delays cognitive deterioration in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) has not been assessed in randomized controlled experiments.Fifty older adults with MCI based on their Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores were randomized to either a Wuqinxi exercise group or a non-exercise control group. The exercise group engaged in Wuqinxi once a week for 60 min each session for 40 weeks. Participants in the control group received no intervention and maintained their regular living habits. The n-back paradigm was used to measure changes in working memory before and after Wuqinxi exercise.In the 0-back task, the response speed of older adults with MCI who participated in Wuqinxi was faster than that of older adults with MCI in the non-exercise control group (P = 0.031); there was no significant difference in accuracy between the two groups (P 0.05). In the 1-back and 2-back tasks, there was no significant difference in response times or in accuracy between the two groups (P 0.05).In this randomized controlled study, participation in long-term Wuqinxi delayed the deterioration of working memory in older adults with MCI, suggesting that this exercise may be an effective intervention to delay or prevent the progression of MCI to Alzheimer's disease.

Pancreatic neoplasms, including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) and pancreatic cystic neoplasms (PCNs), are the most puzzling diseases. Numerous studies have not brought significant improvements in prognosis and diagnosis, especially in PDAC. One important reason is that previous studies only focused on differences between patients and healthy individuals but ignored intratumoral heterogeneity. In recent years, single-cell sequencing techniques, represented by single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), have emerged by which researchers can analyse each cell in tumours instead of their average levels. Herein, we summarise the new current knowledge of single-cell sequencing in pancreatic neoplasms with respect to techniques, tumour heterogeneities and treatments.

Joint is one of the important factors affecting the stability of engineering rock mass. To quantitatively analyze the local failure characteristics of joint, the point cloud data of its morphology before and after shear were obtained by 3D white light scanning technology. Firstly, the problem of cloud surface skew of point cloud data was solved by constructing rotation matrix and translation matrix based on the principle of least square method, and the datum plane of joint was determined. Then, the datum plane of the joint before and after shear was adjusted to be consistent based on the point cloud data of the marked points and the undamaged area of the joint, and the point cloud data with equal spacing were obtained by one-dimensional or two-dimensional interpolation algorithm. Finally, a 3D description method of joint local Morphological characteristics is proposed. The proposed method can determine the scope of surface failure of joint, quantitatively analyze the locality of its failure characteristics, and provide data support for distinguishing the types of shear failure and further research on shear mechanism.

Erythromycin fermentation residue (EFR) after spray drying could be reused as a soil amendment. However, the effects of spray-dried EFR on antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), nitrogen cycling, and microbial community structure in soil are rarely reported. In this study, a pot experiment was conducted by adding spray-dried EFR to soil. For the application of 1.0% spray-dried EFR, the residual erythromycin (ERY) could be rapidly removed with the half-life of 22.2 d; the total relative abundance of ARGs increased at first, but decreased to the initial level of the control group in the end; genes related to ammonium assimilation (glnA, gltB, gltD), ammonification (gdhA, gudB, cynT, cynS, ncd2), denitrification (narI, narG, narH), assimilatory nitrate reduction (nirA, nasA), and dissimilatory nitrate reduction (nirD) were enriched; soil microbial community structure presented temporary variation. Network analysis showed significant negative correlations between ARGs and nitrogen cycling genes. The addition of 6.0% spray-dried EFR resulted in the amplification of ARGs and inhibition of nitrogen cycling. This work provides new insights into the effects of spray-dried EFR on ARGs, nitrogen cycling, and microbial community structure within the fertilized soil.

Pawlak's classical model of rough set approximations provides an efficient tool for extracting information exactly by employing available knowledge (i.e., known knowledge) in an information system, since many problems in rough set theory are NP-hard and their solution process is therefore greedy and approximate. Many extensions of Pawlak's classical model have been proposed in recent years. Most of them are considered over one or two sets, that is, one- or two-dimensional space or one- or two-dimensional data. Aided by relation-based rough set models, a few of these extensions are considered over three sets. However, the real world is in three-dimensional space. Therefore, it is necessary to solve these problems with other models, such as covering rough set models. For this purpose, we propose the TP-matroid-a matroidal structure over three sets. Employing the family of feasible sets of a TP-matroid as the available knowledge, a pair of rough set approximations-lower and upper approximations-is provided. In addition, for an information system defined over three sets, assisted by formal concept analysis, we establish a pair of rough set approximations. Furthermore, two TP-matroids are established based on the above pair of rough set approximations. The integration between the two pairs of rough set approximations presented here is discussed. The results show that for an information system in three-dimensional space, the rough set approximations provided here can effectively explore unknown knowledge by using available knowledge based on the family of feasible sets of a TP-matroid.

The transcription factor MYB proto-oncogene like 2 (MYBL2) is critical in regulating gene expression and tumorigenesis. However, the biological function of MYBL2 in bladder cancer (BLCA) remains to be elucidated. Here, we first revealed that MYBL2 was elevated in BLCA tissues and significantly correlated with clinicopathological parameters and cancer-specific survival in BLCA patients. Phenotypic assays showed that MYBL2 deficiency suppressed the proliferation and migration of BLCA cells in vitro and in vivo, whereas MYBL2 overexpression contributed to the opposite phenotype. Mechanistically, MYBL2 could bind to the promoter of its downstream target gene cell division cycle-associated protein 3 (CDCA3) and transactivate it, which in turn promoted the malignant phenotype of BLCA cells. Further investigations revealed that MYBL2 interacted with forkhead box M1 (FOXM1) to co-regulate the transcription of CDCA3. In addition, MYBL2/FOXM1 and CDCA3 might activate Wnt/β-catenin signaling, thereby promoting the malignant phenotype of BLCA cells. In conclusion, the current study identifies MYBL2 as an oncogene in BLCA. MYBL2 can accelerate the proliferation and metastasis of BLCA through the transactivation of CDCA3.

The coordinated metabolism of carbon and nitrogen is essential for optimal plant growth and development. Nitrate is an important molecular signal for plant adaptation to a changing environment, but how nitrate regulates plant growth under carbon deficiency conditions remains unclear. Here we show that the evolutionarily conserved energy sensor SnRK1 negatively regulates the nitrate signalling pathway. Nitrate promoted plant growth and downstream gene expression, but such effects were repressed when plants were grown under carbon deficiency conditions. Mutation of KIN10, the α-catalytic subunit of SnRK1, partially suppressed the inhibitory effects of carbon deficiency on nitrate-mediated plant growth. KIN10 phosphorylated NLP7, the master regulator of the nitrate signalling pathway, to promote its cytoplasmic localization and degradation. Furthermore, nitrate depletion induced KIN10 accumulation, whereas nitrate treatment promoted KIN10 degradation. Such KIN10-mediated NLP7 regulation allows carbon and nitrate availability to control optimal nitrate signalling and ensures the coordination of carbon and nitrogen metabolism in plants.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common condition in worldwide with underlying causes. The role of trace elements such as copper and zinc in CKD is uncertain. We aimed to examine the relationship of serum copper and zinc with kidney function status and explore its possible effect modifiers in the general population.Data from 5353 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) participants from 2011 to 2016 were analyzed for the role of trace elements in the age range 18 to 80 years. The kidney outcomes were reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)60 mL/min/1.73 mFindings showed a significant positive association between serum copper and urinary ACR (OR = 1.04, 95% CI = 1.00-1.07). Serum copper levels of 18.0 μmol/L (median) or higher (reference level18.0 μmol/L) were significantly associated with increased urinary ACR (OR = 1.67, 95% CI = 1.21-2.31) after adjusting for confounding factors. In contrast, there was a significant inverse association between serum zinc and reduced eGFR (OR = 0.89,95% CI = 0.81-0.99). Where serum zinc level was greater than 12.3 μmol/L (median), the prevalence of reduced eGFR was lower (OR = 0.65, 95% CI = 0.16-0.60). In addition, a stratified analysis based on various risk factors found that in those individuals with serum albumin greater than 43 g/L or systolic blood pressure greater than 120 mmHg, positive correlations between serum copper and risk of increased urinary ACR was more significant.Our findings suggest that the reference levels of serum copper and zinc levels in healthy individuals may be different from current understanding. If further studies substantiate the same, the results will be a useful guide for designing future clinical trials and nutritional guidelines.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an emerging organic pollutant, widely distributed and frequently detected in soil in recent years. BPA toxicity is a problem that needs to be solved in terms of both human health and agricultural production. Up to now, the toxic effect of BPA and its mechanism of action on plants, as well as the possibility of using plants to remediate BPA-contaminated soil, remain to be explored. In this study, six treatment groups were set up to evaluate the effects of different concentrations of BPA on the germination and growth of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) by medium experiments. Furthermore, the representative indexes of photosynthetic and antioxidant system were determined. Meanwhile, tobacco seedlings were cultivated in soil to further explore the effects of BPA on rhizosphere soil enzyme activity and bacterial community structure with or without 100 mg/kg BPA exposure. The enhancement of BPA removal efficiency from soil by phytoremediation using tobacco plants would also be estimated. Our results showed that high doses of BPA in solid medium remarkably inhibited tobacco seedling growth, and its toxicology effect was positively correlated with BPA concentration, while lower BPA exposure ( 20 mg/L) had little limitation on tobacco growth and induced hormesis effect, which was reflected mainly in the increase of root length. In pot experiments, the reducing of chlorophyll content (36.4%) and net photosynthetic rate (41.2%) meant the inhibition of tobacco photosynthetic process due to high concentration of BPA exposure (100 mg/kg) in soil.
