Abstract

The protein kinases constitute a large class of enzymes catalyzing the phosphorylation of protein substrates and performing important regulatory functions in the cell. There are several different types of protein kinases, differing in their method of regulation and in their substrate specificity. There are cyclic AMPand cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinases, and also protein kinases independent of the action of cyclic nucleotides.
